After breakfast on Wednesday morning, Emilee and I headed uptown to shop a little and stop at the farmers market. The Charlotte regional farmers market is open almost all week. It’s really busy on weekends with more vendors, but when we only need fruits and vegetables, we try to go on the weekdays to avoid the large crowds.
It’s crazy how much money you save when you shop at the famers market and that’s why I love the south. They’re here all year round. Not only are you saving money, but you’re giving back to the local farmers and avoiding tons of chemicals.
I also love the way everything is set up. I know it’s silly, but it’s like a painting…at least the perfect photo op.
The sweet potato selection went on and on and on…which is awesome because
I LOVE SWEET POTATOES!
I mean…look at the size of that thing. You can make almost every single recipe with this one potato and still have some leftover!
And we’ve been craving grilled parmesan butter sweet corn, so we picked some up! (which I still need to post my recipe)
Oh…and the peanuts! Today, I am making cinnamon peanut butter in my food processor.
I also bought tons of green beans because I haven’t made my sweet sesame green beans in a long time! Also, the green bean pile kind of looks like a monster.
And my tomato plan goes a little something like this…pizza sauce, omelets, salads, and tomato tart-tatin!
The pumpkin and squash display got me excited! It’s so hot down here that I forget it’s technically fall!
Emilee doing a watermelon workout? or launching it at the car? Who knows!
Farmer’s Market Purchase Outcome: 2 Eggplants, 3 lbs Green Beans, 4 lbs tomatoes, 4 bunches kale, 1 bag spring lettuce, 4 pineapples, 1 watermelon, 6 lbs sweet potatoes, 2 lbs peanuts, 6 red bell peppers, 1 cantaloupe, and 3 green bell peppers!

I love farmer’s markets. We have a very small farmer’s market that is setup on Saturday mornings where I live. It’s nothing like the one you guys went to, but it’s a start!! 🙂

Nice trip to the farmers market ! How much for all that ? (if you don’t mind of course)
And you say its stg you love about south, does this mean that the markets are expensive in the north ? (I’ll be in Pennsylvania this fall)
By the way, if you come to France before october I’d love to meet you in Lyon 🙂

That is one really huge farmers market! More like a grocery store. Did you get to meet the farmers themselves?

That is a wonderful farmers market! It’s huge! My local market is more like the owners come and build the shop every morning. I love the variety you have there 🙂

I love farmer’s markets! You should maybe do a comparison between organic shopping vs farmer’s market prices so people get a better understanding of how much money they save and the benefits of supporting local places like these

Farmers markets are my favorite but how in the world do you buy all that and not have any of it go bad? Do you ever make recipes and then freeze things? I would love to know how you put it to use before it spoils!

I am so jealous! Farmers markets are my favorite place to go, and I haven’t been to one since I was in Chile this summer. I need to find some close to me to go to. And girl… Your healthy veggie recipes inspire me to get creative with mine! Love it. 🙂
