How to Make the BEST Marinated Grilled Chicken

About five years ago, when we first moved into the neighborhood, we were invited to a friend’s house for a backyard BBQ. I’ll never forget the grilled chicken he made. I asked him what the heck he did to marinate it, and I was fortunate enough to be given the recipe!

I could eat grilled chicken every day, but I am picky about the type of grilled chicken I eat. It has to be packed with flavor, have a good char, and still be juicy. I get so sad when I am at a restaurant and order grilled chicken and it comes back without any char or completely flavorless. This is one of the best ways to make grilled chicken, and it is so easy to make.

I love serving it on my cream cheese ciabatta bread sandwiches, in pasta, and always in my meal prep salads.

This week, I REALLY want to up my protein intake and cut back on all the dang desserts. I’ve got my grilled chicken ready, boiled eggs, protein shakes, and salad fixings to help me stay on track.

I didn’t want my chicken to be bland, so I made it exactly the way our friends did.

We make this chicken every time we have guests staying. Shockingly, I can even get my “no-meat-ever” toddler to eat it!

THE BEST MARINADE for grilled chicken EVER:

  • 1/4 Cup Honey Mustard (I used Trader Joe’s)
  • 2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/3 Cup Water

How to make the best marinated grilled chicken:

Mix in a large bowl or ziplock bag and marinate for 24-48 hours.

Turn the grill to super high heat and let the chicken char!

It will be the BEST grilled chicken you’ve ever eaten. This is how I always make my grilled chicken now!

Make sure to check for an internal temp of 165 degrees. You don’t want to cook over that as your chicken will end up being dry. Marinating it also helps keep it nice and juicy!
