Better For You: Blueberry Crumble Sweetened with Maple Syrup

I try cutting out processed sugar where I can. While I’m not strict about checking every label, I try to make better choices when it comes to sweet treats. My husband has been off added sugars for over a year now, and his commitment has definitely inspired me to create more wholesome, naturally sweetened desserts. I have a sweet-obsessed toddler, and these desserts made with maple syrup or honey instead of refined sugar have really helped!

This healthy blueberry crumble is one of those recipes that hits the sweet spot—naturally sweetened, gluten-free, and made without any refined sugars. Plus, it’s packed with antioxidants and fiber, making it just as good for breakfast as it is for dessert!

Thinking about some ingredient swaps? Here are some options:

Flour: gluten-free flour, almond flour, or whole wheat flour

Maple Syrup: Substitute maple syrup with date, honey, or agave for a different natural sweetener.

Blueberries: You can substitute blueberries for almost any fruit you like! Try apples, peaches, pears, blackberries, strawberries, or raspberries for a new twist. I can’t wait to do blackberries during their season.

Coconut Oil: Use butter or vegan butter as an alternative to coconut oil

Cinnamon: Don’t have cinnamon? Try using apple pie spice or add a pinch of nutmeg to give your crumble a unique flavor.blueberry crumble, healthy blueberry crumble recipe with frozen blueberries, frozen blueberry recipes, organic blueberries, recipes for blueberry season, gluten-free blueberry crumble, dairy-free blueberry crumble, low calorie dessert, healthy dessert, vegan dessert, vegan blueberry crumble, low sugar dessert, healthy low sugar dessert, healthy blueberry dessert, blueberry season, fresh blueberries, can I use frozen blueberries, healthy desserts for kids

Healthy Ingredients with a Nutritional Boost

This recipe isn’t just delicious—it’s packed with nutrients that make you feel great throughout your day.

Blueberries: Loaded with antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber, blueberries support heart health, reduce inflammation, and boost the immune system.

Oats: A great source of whole grains, oats help regulate blood sugar, promote digestion, and support heart health.

Pure Maple Syrup: A natural sweetener rich in antioxidants and minerals like manganese, zinc, and potassium, it provides a gentler impact on blood sugar levels compared to refined sugar.

Cinnamon: Not only does cinnamon add warmth and depth to the crumble, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties and can help regulate blood sugar.

Coconut Oil: A healthy alternative to butter, coconut oil provides beneficial fats and adds a subtle richness to the crumble topping.

Excellent recipe tara! I am trying to cut sugar for my family and teenage daughters. They are struggling with acne and the dermatologist said our sugar intake could be causing breakouts. Even the picky teens loved the recipe and begged for me to make some more. I want to try your peach version this summer! I look forward to exploring more of your recipe index.
