We Did a Black and White Gallery Wall
I can’t promise this space will stay like this. I’ve only changed it up about five times so far, but I thought I’d share what we did here if I end up changing it again. I go back and forth between wanting things to be minimal and then the next day I want it to be cottage-style. I sort of mix the two, which can be challenging. Wherever I have black and white details, I also add in some wicker baskets. We have been debating on getting the living room painted, so that may change this space entirely. But for now, I love the minimal look and how easy it is to keep clean. I was tired of styling the console table, and it just looked too cluttered in that corner space. Once our new coffee table arrives (furniture is so hard to get right now!), everything may look more in place.
Black and White Photo Gallery Wall
It took a while for me to find the perfect black and white frames. I liked the ones at Ikea but didn’t want to spend time adding the glass to them. I like a few other websites, but they were so expensive. The matte black frames I found from Target were perfect and of amazing quality for the price. I really wanted the frame to be thin from the front, and they were exactly that!
Hanging Picture Frames
Kyle placed the cardboard from the back of the frames on the wall to get the spacing perfect. He’s much more precise than I am. I would have had them hanging in all kinds of uneven lines.
Order Black and White Photos
I had the prints done at CVS because I love their one-hour photo pickups. I’m too impatient to order the better quality prints that get shipped to me. We had three different entryway tables we tried in the space, and it just looked off. I found this bench at Homegoods, and I thought it would look great in that space. I topped it with some pillows from Target and TjMaxx. I found almost the same bench at Target cheaper (I wish I would have seen that sooner!) We’ve been thinking about doing the waterfall console from West Elm in this space. I love the idea of putting baskets under it but don’t like the idea of styling the top.
ps-I saw a sock at the bottom of the stairs but decided to still use this photo because who doesn’t have random socks lying around? 😆 I feel like my socks go where they please. Thanks for stopping by to read today! ♥️
Questions for you!
- Do you have a photo wall?
- What is your design style?
- Favorite store for home decor?

It looks super cute, Tara! I love that you used the photo with the sock 🤣 I go between boho & minimal style. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with finding good deals on Facebook Marketplace.
Taralynn says
😆 i just had to leave it there!
omg same. Marketplace is where it’s at lately! Especially for diy projects.

What size frames did you use? I see others asked this question but did not see your reply. Beautiful pics.
Taralynn says
They are 14 x 18
Sarah ahsan says
What size are the frames ? And how much spacing do you have ?
Jennifer says
Not yet! I always thought they were kinda blah, until I saw your very symmetrical one and I find it very visually pleasing so now I want one 😂 it’s usually the mis-matched gallery walls that I find too cluttered!
I’m a weird mix of modern and coastal. I like all the black accents right now, but also love the creamy blues and beachy vibes.
Probably homegoods, hobby lobby, and target because they’re relatively inexpensive so I don’t feel bad about changing stuff around/getting rid of stuff as styles change.
Taralynn says
Hahaha we are same, girl!

I love how it turned out. I really love the bench in that space.
I have one big gallery wall that are photos of my daughter…one picture for every year until she graduates…3 more to fill up!
I find home decor in so many places. I just discovered At Home and holy cow do they have STUFF!!
Taralynn says
Thank you, Pamela!!
omg At Home is overwhelmingly amazing lol

This looks so good, I love it!
I laughed out loud at your comment about you versus Kyle hanging the pictures — my boyfriend and I are the same way. We have the same sort of set-up in our dining room, and I took the liberty of hanging all of the pictures up (I thought I did good!) and my boyfriend was shocked and immediately took them down and redid everything. Now we can never take them down because there’s a million holes underneath!!

My husband and I do not have a photo wall like yours, but we do have one frame that has slots for 8 pictures in our living room. What I like to do is switch out the pictures seasonally, so the photos match whatever season we are in.
We are honestly still trying to figure out our style. We are renters, saving up for our first home, and our furniture is from when we first moved in together – so it doesn’t match! When we are able to buy (hopefully in 2 years), we plan to leave the majority of our old furniture behind and start new! But we do like a simplistic, gray/white/black so we’ll see!
I love HomeGoods for decor!
Love your blog, thank you for sharing! The bench is great!

Hi Taralynn!
I love how it turned out! Especially those black and white pictures. Also the bench looks great under the photo wall, it’s more spacious.
We also have a photo wall but in our bedroom. And speaking of decor, we are just heading to Ikea with my boyfriend 🙂
I don’t have one favorite decor shop because the ones I like are very expensive but I always try to buy something cute online. There’s a lot of nice things on Amazon 🙂
Have a nice weekend <3

Hi Taralynn,
I had a photo wall in my last apartment before my husband & I moved into our house. I lived there alone and the photo wall was very feminine, so I look back on it fondly now that we’ve blended styles. I love minimalism but also French country, so I understand the challenge of blending! I like to try local antique shops or second hand stores for décor, but I also love Home Goods!
Your photo wall came out beautifully! Thanks for sharing your home journey- it takes a lot to make a house just right for your family.

It looks absolutely amazing, Taralynn! Love it!!

LOVE the bench you currently have! This makes me want to switch up some of my tables for one, ha.
My style is all over. Farmhouse, traditional and boho LOL. I love white, but have been obsessed with wood accents lately (just beadboarded our kitchen ceiling.) Also love wicker and greenery.
Home Goods, Target and World Market are my usual go tos. OH, and Amazon!

I am wanting to copy this completely but wondering your thoughts on our black handrail? Would you have done it if you could do it again?
Taralynn says
I love the idea of a black handrail. I think if my wood on our staircase wasn’t stained light (i am actually in love with the stain color) I would have painted it black!
Tina Markarian says
Looks amazing! I’d love to recreate this look. What size frames are these?
Kaylie says
I love this so much! Can you verify what size frames your used?
Ligia Herrera says
What size frames did you use?
Haley Aguilar says
Love this! What size frames did you use?
Ayssa says
What size target frames did you order?
Jackie says
This gallery wall turned out so cute!
Liz says
Love this. Question. Do you think the photo wall would look as good with colored photos in the same frames? Still using the bench underneath? Thanks!
Taralynn says
Yes! I think so!
Ashlee says
Is it true that your gallery wall should be from the same photo sesh or can they be random photos?
Taralynn says
Not at all! I filled my gallery wall with my favorite photos.
Matt says
How much spacing did your husband use between photos?
Taralynn says
4 inches
Megan Johnson says
Do you have a link for the frames you used? I’ve been looking for 2 weeks and can’t decide what to get.
