French Toast Skewers: A Kid-Friendly Recipe

These skewers are healthy, easy to customize, and affordable. You’ll just need bread, eggs, cinnamon, cooking spray, fresh fruit, and skewers. I used gluten-free cinnamon raisin and gluten-free white bread, but feel free to use any bread that you like—even banana bread works for a unique twist!

I love how healthy and light these fruity french toast skewers are! They have protein, fiber, a good source of carbs, and antioxidants from the berries!

How to Make French Toast Skewers

Ingredients:

    • Bread: 14 slices (use your choice of bread, gluten-free if preferred)
    • Eggs: 7 large eggs (or 12 egg whites for a lighter option)
    • Cinnamon: 1 tbsp
    • Fruit: 1 cup each of blackberries, peaches (sliced), strawberries (sliced), and kiwi (optional to keep skin on)

Instructions:

    • Prep the Bread: Cut each slice into quarters.
    • Mix Eggs & Cinnamon: Whisk the eggs and cinnamon until fully combined.
    • Dip & Cook: Dip each bread square in the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for 20-30 seconds. Spray a pan with cooking spray and cook each square on medium-high for about 30 seconds per side, using two pans if needed to speed up the process.
    • Assemble the Skewers: Alternate French toast squares with fruit pieces on skewers. Customize with team colors, seasonal fruits, or your favorite flavors.

This recipe makes fourteen skewers.

If you don’t want to serve the french toast on skewers, you can add the french toast squares to a large serving bowl. A giant bowl of french toast square is a cute idea as well. And of course, they’re always best with syrup!

Questions for you!

  1. Are you having fall-like weather where you live today?
  2. French toast or waffles?

Do you think baking french toast with the oven will yield different results from regularly just frying them?

I’ve never thought about something like this! What a fantastic and yummy idea! 😁

  4. This is GENIUS! I’m seriously drooling over these pictures. I love all the bright fruits!
I WISH we were having fall weather. We had a 70 degree day earlier this week and it was glorious. But aside from that, it’s been 88+ every day. Ugh. I am SO ready for fall!
    If it’s a breakfast carb, I’ll eat it :).
I honestly only realized within the past few months that people eat kiwi with skin on! I’m definitely a scoop it out girl. No fuzzies for me!

    1. Thanks, Susie!!

We have 90+ days but these mornings have been unusual! I’ll take it! 😊 I know it won’t last long before that August/September heat kicks in.

Hahahahaha! I think the fuzzies throw people off. I think the skin is super sour like candy so I can get past the “fuzzies.” Literally laughing out loud with that word.

We are going to make these this weekend!

  6. Hey Taralynn! I’ve been following your blog for a long time and I love your story. I’m just starting my fitness journey and was wondering if it was difficult for you in the beginning just to walk? Because that’s where I’m at it now and it’s pretty embarrassing for me.

    1. Hi, Viv!

Walking is one of my favorite things to do for staying active. You should be proud of yourself, never embarrassed! Walking is a great way to escape from the day. I highly recommend making several playlists or downloading a podcast and getting lost in it during your walks. The more you walk, the more confident you’ll feel in your routine! When I see people out walking, I get inspired to do the same. So just think about all the people you’re inspiring while out there walking!

      You got this! xo

  7. I love the idea of serving a bowl of french toast squares at brunch.

Absolutely no skin on the kiwi!
