Hey, Everyone!
I hope you all had a great day. I won’t have time to blog in the morning, so I figured I’d do a recap post tonight while watching David Muir. I have some important stuff to catch up with you on and kind of explain what I’ve been going through this week.
This morning, I woke up at 4:30 to make it to a spin class at 5 am. I’ve been trying to do all kinds of other workouts to make sure I don’t get injured while running. Plus, it’s good for the body to change up the workouts! When I got back, I took Grumples for a nice two mile walk while having coffee. The weather was weird this morning and I couldn’t decide whether it was hot or cold.
When I got back, I headed to my desk and started working.
I forgot that I told Rachel I’d go hiking with her, so when I got the text, I had to rush my work and meet up with her. I was excited to get out there though! My legs were already jello, so why not add more jello?
We killed the hike and didn’t have to stop once. I had fun trying out my new TomTom Multi-Sport GPS watch and I can’t wait to share that post with you tomorrow. I get to run with it in the morning and try it out again.
Oh, and the water bottle is from Ankit!
The only crappy thing is we totally got stuck in crappy traffic on the way back. When I got home, I stopped at the grocery store and picked up tons of healthy food. I also bought a giant gallon of water to sip on because I’m definitely drinking enough water. Keeping a gallon next to me always helps. I planned on making baked chicken, sweet potato fries and a tossed salad, but I can’t find the energy to do anything. As soon as I sat on the couch, I changed my mind. I had Amy’s organic tomato soup with Parmesan. I haven’t had an appetite at all today. I’ve had a banana, a granola bar, and this soup. I might be coming down with something becuase I never lose my appetite. At least the fridge is stocked for the week.
On Monday, my friend Becca and I headed to the lake for a mid-day glass of wine and an appetizer. It was so hot outside! We sat under the sun and watched all the birds and people on the lake. It was so peaceful and a much needed little afternoon getaway. We ordered veggies and pita chips with hummus.
There was a bird sitting two feet away from me. I couldn’t stop staring at him and he would do little head tilts that reminded me of my dog. His eyes were deep yellow and I just found him beautiful.
We walked around the water after our wine.
The lake was filled with all kinds of birds and animals.
We decided to make a delicious tofu vegetable stir fry with udon noodles for Bachelor Monday dinner! It was so easy to cook up and it was absolutley outstanding!
I chopped up one yellow onion, one cup of baby carrots, one red bell pepper, two green bell peppers, and two cups of broccoli.
I added it to my stir fry pan on high heat with a couple tablespoons of olive oil. I kept the veggies cooking and added a couple tablespoons of classic stir-fry sauce every two minutes. During the two minutes, I left the veggies covered.
Once the veggies were completely sautéed and perfectly flavored, I added the Udon noodles.
These cook up really fast.
While the udon noodles were cooking with the vegetables, I chopped up some tofu and cooked them in olive oil with a couple tablespoons of classic stir fry sauce.
I was shocked at how delicious the tofu was! Tofu is high protein, low carb, and a great source of iron.
This meal was prepared in under 25 minutes!
The Bachelor was boring, but I’m glad that Caila went home. I want him to be with Lauren so she isn’t the next Bachelorette, but I also think he has better chemistry with Jojo. The episode was extremely awkward too. At least the stir fry was good!
This is the sexy man I woke up to Tuesday morning…
I felt bad about ruining his morning routine of laying on the couch and doing nothing until he wants to get up for a walk. I was blessed with a dog that wants nothing to do with anyone in the morning, unless you’re rubbing his belly! I love him so much.
I had a quick cup of coffee with a banana and headed to his new training course! He did so well:)
He was exhausted after that two hour camp, so he cuddled up on my bed and just watched people out the window.
I was so proud at him for not barking at anyone! That is definitely new 🙂
I left for my afternoon run and decided to head to the park. I always like running new paths, otherwise it gets so boring!
I should have worn shorts and a tank top becuase it was HOT!! My freckles were out and about from the sun. Good thing I wore sunscreen.
This was such a great park and great for race training. It had tons of hills and different obstacles. After my run, I did a fifteen minute stretch under a shade tree.
I’m doing a 5k in a couple of weeks and I’m hoping I can turn this into 25 minutes on race day.
I grabbed a matcha green smoothie and a wheatgrass shot for a post run lunch! It was so refreshing.
I couldn’t get enough of the outdoors. I headed out for nine holes with my dad.
The skies were gorgeous out on the course and it was so therapeutic.
My golf game has definitely improved this year!
I love that my dad is retired because I get someone to golf with whenever I want.
The drive home reminded me so much of my hometown in Iowa. Miss that place!
I was too tired to drive home, so I ended up having dinner with my parents and staying the night over there. We watched super Tuesday results and we all came to the realization the Leonardo DiCaprio would made a great president. My dad made a vegetable stew with carrots, black beans, peppers, broccoli, potatoes, and roast. It tasted great!
I ended up passing out around 9:30 on Tuesday night and waking up pretty early for spin class!

1) My absolute favorite thing to do in the summer is head to the park and play around on the kiddie equipment (swings, jungle gym …). Not only is it fun, but you can make it a fun workout.
2) I haven’t tried a spin class yet, but I really want to. We don’t have any near where I live 🙁
3) Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose – Lyndon B Johnson. I’m sure it is probably from a political speech or something, but it always helps me focus on a new day and new possibilities.
Sorry to hear about Nick and especially Tino, but I’m proud of you for doing what’s best for you! That’s so hard sometimes.
1. Girl, me too! The monkey bars get tough as you get older. I used to love the park for that reason back when I was a nanny.

1. This is so redneck but tractor pulls. I’ve been around that sort of thing all my life and it’s just a fun way to spend a weekend. I’ve gotten to know so many great people and it’s kind of like a family.
2. I took a gym class in high school where we got to go try some new activities and one of those was a spin class. I remember it being challenging and I actually was thinking I would like to find one just so I can have somewhere to wear your “you can’t spin with us” tank. Lol

My favorite summer activity is hiking. The trees offer welcome shade and it’s a fun workout.
I have never tried a spin class, I feel like I would either get really bored or not have enough energy to make it through the class. I’m super klutzy and get embarrassed easily, so classes like that scare me.

I’m glad to hear you’re using your supportive friends and family, never forget that they’re there for you. Stay strong and don’t be afraid to let the tears fall, all emotions are needed for a balanced life. You are always an inspiration for me, thank you for showing me that life has its twists and turns but you have to keep moving no matter what life throws at you.
I also love hiking. Oh, spin classes are far from boring. They have fun music, the instructors are upbeat and they keep the lights dark. But, it’s super hard if you go at the instructors pace. You can set your own, which is nice. You should never get embarrassed at all! People are more conceded with how they look than the person next to them.

2) I like spinning! I've been to Soul Cycle and Flywheel before and sorta prefer Flywheel but both are really fun and great for relieving stress!

1. Hmmmm. My favorite summer activity is walking the beach when there is a sunset. It’s such a perfect temperature and the sky is beautiful. It makes for a great date night, girls night, or picture taking opportunity.
2. I tried it back in high school and honestly hated it. But now, after playing a college sport, my knees hurt more when I run so I have tried biking on my own and love it. I would like to try spinning again because I think I would actually enjoy it this time around.

I haven’t read your entire post just yet! (I save it for the mornings with my coffee 🙂 ) but I did read the last part ~ one of my fave quotes “there is something beautiful about having the chance to rewrite your future”. I firmly think that the strongest and bravest thing you can ever do is stand up for who you are. And I also believe it’ll always send you on a path that is better than the one you were on.
Also, I love spinning!! I’m a runner so it’s nice to switch it up and I definitely sweat a ton!

It really does suck, but life is full of obstacles and it’s how we choose to handle them. I appreciate your support and kind words. I really do feel like I can get through anything. I’ve been through so much in my short lifetime and a lot people that read my blog don’t know about. I love that you were actually honest about what happened and didn’t avoid it. These days we see too many ‘fake happy’ posts on Facebook to the extent that we think that our lives are crappy compared to others when in reality people only post the good bits of theirs and everyone feels inadequate in comparison to what they see.

I’m about to be honest again. I wanted to avoid it, I didn’t want to share that, but I felt like I owed it to my readers and it saves me from a lot of unwanted comments. I also know other girls are probably going through the same thing and hopefully they can look at my blog for some comfort. I get emails a lot about relationships, and I don’t mind talking with them at all. I don’t care who you are, how much money you have, or how famous you are…everyone is equal! Everyone deals with pain, has struggles and fails. You can cover it up with pretty pictures of food and muscle pics, but it’s more inspiring to share your struggles with people who are struggling with you. I think admitting that you’re sad and going through a hiccup makes you stronger than people who are hiding behind a forced smile. There is nothing wrong with admitting to imperfections and I’ve learned that the hard way!

1) Taking my dog to the beach and dog parks! I live in Nova Scotia and it is freezing here from November-April lol, so I try to absolutely max out the warmer months.
2) LOVE spin, do it at least once a week. My gym offers all the ‘Les Mills’ classes so spin, body pump etc – I love those because it is great not to have to think about what I am going to do for a workout lol.

I feel for ya girl! Recently me and my boyfriend of five years broke up, it was pretty terrible and we are co-parenting our dog which is also terrible. Life’s funny sometimes, but it always works out they way it should.

1. My favorite summer activity has to be kayaking! My bf and I did a kayaking tour on the Hudson River where we went all around this location called Bannerman Castle, which is where the military used to store goods. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked on kayaking!
2. I love spin! I’ve been doing it for about two years now but recently took a break to run more to train for my half. I think spin is one of the easiest exercises to talk yourself into when you don’t feel like working out because you can say your just “sitting” (even though you’re really not, but I tell myself that to push myself into going lol.)
3. My favorite quote is “surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher” It’s pretty simple but a reminder that I want to be with someone who is going to make me want to be a better person.
I really commend you for looking at your relationship and realizing it’s night the right situation for you. So many people stay in situations they know are wrong just because it’s easier in the short run. I actually moved from CA to NJ for my ex boyfriend and ended up splitting up with him after six months. It was rough because I didn’t have my support system there with me and didn’t want to look like a failure in the eyes of my friends and family. I kept telling myself that I could get through it and I could not be with someone who wasn’t right for me. I focused on myself- working out, signed up for a pottery class, found new friends and I can honestly say it paid off. I stayed in the east coast and after a year of being single I found my current boyfriend who is honestly one of the best things to ever happen to me. He “lifts me higher” so to say. Sorry this is so long but what I’m trying to say is stay strong! I promise any pain you feel will pass and you’ll look back at this time and appreciate the decision you made. Best of luck xoxo!

Summer is my favorite season! I love the heat so any activity where I am outside. Whether it is a physical activity or just sitting on the patio. That strong sun is my favorite!
Spin classes encouraged me and then discouraged me. I have tried it once and thought I was going to die…later realizing I had attended the intermediate class and not the beginners. I think my legs were jello for a week!
I love quotes so it is hard to pick just one. There are so many that you can use on a daily basis depending on your current mood or status! I like to kick myself when I am down which is a complete flaw but I always like to remember that the sun will still come up tomorrow. Even though my heart or head could be black, the sun will till come up, my dog will still me OVERLY excited to jump in bed with me and that cool morning air will wake me up! So just remember the sun will rise tomorrow so you should rise with it!
Break-ups suck! They are worse when you are losing a dog child! Use it as an excuse to drink lots of wine and binge watch old episodes of your favorite shows! But GO OUTSIDE! FEEL THAT SUN!

What is your favorite summer activity?
Although here in southern Ontario we aren’t even close to summer weather yet, my favourite summer activity is to travel to small towns for dinner or lunch on the patio. I love to try new small restaurants and afterwards walk around the small towns. About 20 mins east of where I live is a small town right on the lake and they have some of the best restaurants and patio’s. it’s nice to get out of town and enjoy the new scenery even if it’s only for a short time.

I love spin classes, to be honest i think they start to become a good addiction after a short time. I haven’t done one in a little while but after this post I think I’ll be getting back into it.

Kudos for you for opening up and being vulnerable + honest. I can totally understand how it sucks to have to tell a huge audience something like that online, despite not wanting to, because you know the questions will come.
I think sharing that news regardless, with a respectful request to give you space/be kind in return, was mature and a big step for you. Even know this is your personal life, it can feel strange to blog readers (i.e. customers) to feel like something is intentionally being kept from you, so it shows a lot of respect for your readers as well to give them the heads up.
Breakups are so painful, so wishing you lots of healing and support during this time. There is something incredibly freeing about learning to accept yourself just as you are, and feeling comfrtable with being alone for some time – especially at this age. You will learn to love being the only person to whom you are responsible, but it will take some time first to heal.

1. I LOVE swimming. If it’s the beach or in a pool, I just love being by the water in the summer and soaking up the sun. There’s nothing better than cooling off in the ocean or a pool on a hot day. And I love reading a good book while laying out in between swims.

Tara, I know you must be going through some hard emotions right now! Such a big life change and split from someone you’ve become so close to can definitely affect your appetite. It’s okay to let yourself grieve, but I also admire how much energy you are putting into time with friends and family. They are our support when life gets hardest, and it is so uplifting and healthy to surround yourself with loving relationships in times like this.
The best quote that comes to mind right now is the one my CrossFit gym has painted on its walls. “Tough times don’t last; tough people do.” I think of this motto and tell myself that I can do hard things any time life becomes too much for me. When work is overwhelming, when my relationship is challenging me, when life seems to continue to throw curveball after curveball, I just remind myself that it will pass, and I will become stronger from it. I know you’re not ready to talk about Nick but I wanted to say that I admire how you phrased things, especially how you never know what life will have in store for your love. It’s tempting after a break up to talk negatively about the other person and bash them, but something that took me a LOT of time to realize is that a breakup doesn’t make someone terrible or bad, and it doesn’t negate the happy experiences you had. Plus, life is funny and you really do never know how things will play out.
Okay, moving on… I live in Florida now, so my absolute favorite summer activity is going to the beach. (If you’re considering a trip to FL I HIGHLY recommend St. Pete Beach!). I’m currently in Orlando so I love going canoeing or kayaking in the lakes and springs, but when we can take a weekend, the ManFriend and I go to his parents’ house in St. Pete Beach and go boating and float around the sand bars. Something about saltwater and sun just makes me feel so rejuvenated.

My favorite Summer activity is simply hanging out on the deck and grilling with family and friends and those late Summer nights. I would LOVE to try a spin class, if I could get up the courage. It’s sort of intimidating for me. I need an inspirational quote, not sure I have a favorite. That’s something for me to work on. I’m really sorry to hear about you and Nick, and Tino. Stay strong. Taralynn, I’m so sorry to hear about your breakup and I’m especially sorry to hear about Tino. It must have been very difficult for you to tell all of us about it but it shows how strong you are. I appreciate you being so real, even when it’s hard. I’m so glad to hear that you have strong support from your girlfriends, that will probably help a lot.
One of my favorite quotes is from A Cinderella Story. “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.” It’s a little cliche but I think it’s important to remember yet easy to forget.
On an unrelated note, I’d love to hear more about the stretches you do. I love stretching after a run but I don’t know many so I’m usually done in just a few minutes.

1. Definitely going to the beach! I live on the eastern shore of Maryland, not far from Assateague Island (where the wild ponies are free to roam, and where the Misty books are set) so any free day I have in the summer, that’s where I am 🙂
2. Never! I just saw that our local Y was offering spin classes, but a few days after I saw the advertisement, I read that they canceled them since there was no interest. Weird haha. Maybe I’ll get a chance at some point!

My favourite thing to do in the summer is so lame. I love to go to my parents house, they live in the country (I’m in Northern Ireland) and get my dad’s ride-on lawnmower and cut the grass. Then walk around and listen to the birds, and eat raspberries and peas and tomatoes straight from the garden. Maybe take the dog for a walk to the church nearby.
Theres a little bench on the farthest side of the graveyard where the graves are all 300 years old, in amongst these ivy covered oak trees, it’s so beautiful and quiet.
I’ve never been to spin, I hear they shout at you if you slow down and that would make me cry.

1) I LOVE camping and weekends at the lake. I moved to Denver, CO about three years ago and there isn’t too much water here! I am originally from Lexington, KY and I miss the south an incredible amount, but the change in location (which I am sure you can understand) has really helped me grow as a person, and find our who I really am. Moving around does that to a person, am I right?
2)I use to go to spin classes often, especially when I was training for triathlons, however, the repetitive motion of the pedals gave me pain in the back of my knee (posterior collateral ligament), weh! I sure do miss it!

My favorite summer activity is probably frolfing or paddle boarding. I’ve only been paddle boarding once, but it is the most fun I have ever had on the water.
I have never tried a spin class, but I have always been intrigued by them.

I am so ready for summer. I love waking up early, getting in a good sweat, and being lazy the rest of the day:) ++smoothies, online nursing class by the pool, & a more relaxed schedule. 2. Spin is my FAVORITE exercise! There’s a studio up here called GO Cycle, and I’m obsessed with it. It takes the atmosphere of a normal spin class up three notches and it’s so much fun!

Spinning is amazing, at my gym, the people who attend class are like family. They are so supportive and welcoming of new people that want to join the class and we hold each other accountable.
I love long runs on the canal and kayaking in the summer! I’m in the midwest and the weather here just wont break enough for me to be running outside yet. I have tried spinning classes and while I agree that they are a great cardio workout I tend to get really bored during them staring at the same people and 4 walls for an hour. Favorite quote is: Today is a good day for a good day. I’m sorry to hear about you and Nick but sometimes people just need time apart to grow on an individual scale. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and together for 10 years and while we have very different values and different lifestyles we realized that if we want to be together we have to give a little both ways. I lead a very active lifestyle, love the gym, read a lot, love to paint. He’s a numbers person, loves watching sports, hates reading or the arts but like being outdoors. We compromise a lot….one weekend is an art gallery and a 10 mile hike the next weekend its brew tour and game night. Ill be honest it took a lot to figure this out but in the end I think it has made me a better more well rounded person. The things we go thru can either build us up or tear us down! Keep your chin up girl, you got this!

1 – favorite summer activity definitely has to be exploring what my surrounding cities have to offer. I live halfway between Milwaukee and Chicago so my boyfriend and I like to spend our weekends taking “tiny trips” going to a different suburb and seeing what they have to offer.
2 – I used to take spin classes bright and early like you but I’m fortunate enough now to work somewhere that has an in house gym so I can workout for free. Sadly this means no opportunity to take classes but that’s alright!
3 – my all time favorite positive quote is “Life is tough, but so are you”. Sometimes you’ll have good days and sometimes you won’t. That’s just life. It gets tough especially when it seems like things couldn’t get worse but you just have to remind yourself that you’re also tough and strong enough to get through it!
I’ve always loved your blog. I check it every day to see if you’ve posted anything new. It’s given me so much inspiration to get outdoors and try new things. I love to cook and even started my own blog about 2 years ago thanks to you! I love to travel and find amazing places to eat where ever I go but reading your blog has gotten my to take advantage of the great outdoors where ever I go. Yes, I have tried a spin class but it wasn’t really my thing. I prefer ice skating and kick-boxing type activities.

I just ended a relationship too and after reading your post I decided that focusing on myself and my health is the best thing to do right now. (with a little wine…. for the antioxidents of course!) I have been doing really well and taking it one day at a time so as not to overwhelm myself. Your blog is great motivation as is your positive attitude. You are a very strong woman and I know it may suck right now but this is an opportunity to grow in yourself. I would love to become a runner and I think now is the best time to start! I just read your post and thank you for sharing such a sensitive part of your life. I actually just broke up with my bf too (also named nick!) and its been so difficult. We had dog together that he is taking and its been beyond difficult dealing with all of the transitions and not having them both around. You made me feel like I wasnt so alone with all that I have going on with my ended relatinship so thank you for that 🙂

1. Favorite summer activity: being outside!!! Just playing with my daughter, in a toddler size pool ?, walks/adventures, being at the river(my parents own a private lot and it’s so relaxing, kayaking, vacations, biking, etc!!
2. I love spin class. I actually started my fitness journey in 2008 by spin class and still do it today. 2 years ago I took up running and love being outside more than spinning now, but here in St Louis it’s cold in winter and spinning is great!
3. I have a few favorite quotes but the one that comes to mind is one from a special hospice patient from just this week: therefore don’t worry about tomorrow for tomorrow with care for itself. He had his son read me his favorite bible versus. Really makes you take the time to appreciate the positives now in your life and not worry about tomorrow.
That sounds like a blast and I’m sure she appreciates that so much.

I am late to commenting on this post, but I do hope you see it. I don’t necessarily have a quote, but rather more of a thought. Ever hear that breakup line “it’s not you, it’s me?” How about changing it to “it’s neither of us, it’s God.” It seems to me that you’re listening to God and yourself about doing what’s best for you at this time and I think that’s wonderful. You seem to do so much for others, and I’m so glad to see you haven’t forgotten yourself! Your little post brought me to tears, I’ve been in a similar position and I know how sad it can truly be. Don’t give up on God or yourself. He has a plan for you. You are beautiful on the inside and out and I can speak for myself personally on how much of an inspiration you are to me everyday. And on an end note, happiness is fleeting, but joy is eternal. Best of everything to you, Tara, I know you will be fine. 🙂
