Remember playing outside after dinner as a kid? Swimming, playing hide and seek in the neighborhood, or hopscotch on the driveway? Now, everyone seems so absorbed in their technology. I’m very guilty of it. Samantha and I have decided that we are going to spend our evenings being active. No more computer, television, or laying around after dinner. We are going to walk 5-8 miles every night after dinner. It’s been day two and we feel great! It’s better to carry conversations in person and not through a little cell phone or computer. It’s been two days and we’ve already walked over 20 miles. The time flies by when you are chatting away and enjoying the weather.
Before our walks, we make a healthy dinner! Last night, we chose green beans, salad, and garlic tilapia!
The tilapia was simple. You guys know how I love easy, quick, and little ingredient recipes. This one just had a garlic and herb marinade over the tilapia.
I cooked the tilapia for 10 minutes!
Eating healthy involves eating a lot of veggies! I like to cover my plate with veggies and eat as many as possible.
You can find my green bean recipe here!
Last night we made it 6.5 miles and then grabbed our dogs and went another mile with them. No way they would last 7.5 miles with us!
Charlotte has the BEST walking paths. They are full of hills and I love it!
For dessert, I had fresh berries topped with light whipped cream!
I want you guys to join us. Get off your technology after dinner and get out and walk! Tag me in your workouts on twitter or instagram!

Try the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. I pick it up at the Target Metropolitan – it takes you down by a stream and eventually into Freedom Park, around a beautiful man make lake. If you pick it up outside Target and go all the way around, its a nearly exact 5 miles – and its so beautiful! 🙂

You go girl! I’ve been following your blog for awhile…You used to be more into running and ran A LOT….Do you mind me asking your reasons for doing more walking lately?….is it just to switch up your exercise a bit?

My knees have been aching a lot more lately, so I’ve cut down my running more. I’ll get back into it more eventually. I run about 2-3 miles in the morning.

Great idea – my boyfriend and I have either been giving up or doing something new each month. (This month we gave up desserts :(). This would be perfect for June! (If Chicago weather permits. Could be snowing, could be 100 degrees, who knows)
It’s great to see a lot of girl time lately. What has Jeremy been up to?

I love your blog! I’m always trying to find some new ways to cook fish since I don’t eat a lot of meat (and admittedly haven’t cooked a lot on my own). I would love to hear what marinade you used for this tilapia, and if you just threw it in a pan 5 min on each side to make the total 10 min? THANK YOU! I’m hoping to start walking a lot more too 🙂

I love going on after dinner walks – it not only burns some extra cals, but helps me stay away from eating dessert since I realize I crave sweets the most after I eat dinner. I will try to remember to take a picture of my walk tonight!

Love your blog and it has inspired me to start eating healthier meals. Any tips on eating veg though as I am not a fan?!

I’m a NY girl but have been to Charlotte THREE times this year to visit friends because I love it so much! In fact, I leave tomorrow to check it out once more for a week.
Try Crowder Mountain for a fun hike. I did that last time I went down and it is a perfect hike with girlfriends, boyfriends, and dogs!!
Also, can’t wait for you to check out the Whitewater Center- you will love that too!
Love reading your updates in Charlotte Taralynn!

From the pictures it looks like you’re in the Ballantyne area. If you get a chance there’s a great green way near the Shops at Piper Glen (on Rea Road and Bevington) that I used to run after work. It feels like more of a trail in some parts bc of the dirt paths. (And as a post run snack you can go across the street for coffee at Starbucks and a sweet whole grain treat from Great Harvest!)

Hey Taralynn! I am wondering how you made so many friends at your new apartment. I have been struggling to meet new people. Sadly I don’t have a pup to meet people with.

Ballantyne area! I live right there! Such a great place to walk!

Hi! Love your blog! I was just wondering where or what brand your water bottle is?
Thanks,
