One of our favorite summer meals is Jalapeño Cheddar Turkey Burgers! They are so easy to make, a healthy source of protein, and delicious!
We enjoy these turkey burgers about once a week! The best part is that they taste just as delicious the next day, and I’m always a fan of leftovers. If you prefer less heat, you can adjust the spice level by removing all the jalapeño seeds. We like a bit of kick, so we add a tablespoon of seeds.
If you don’t have jalapeño powder, you can use a few alternatives to add a similar kick to your burgers:
How to add spice to a turkey burger:
- Cayenne Pepper: Adds heat and a bit of smokiness.
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: Offers a similar spiciness with a bit of texture.
- Hot Sauce: Adds heat and can also enhance the flavor.
- Serrano Peppers: Fresh or chopped, these peppers provide good heat.
- Chipotle Powder: Adds a smoky heat if you prefer a different flavor profile.
Adjust the amount according to your heat preference and taste!
Jalapeño Jelly Burger
One of my favorite new ways to use jalapeño jelly is by adding a few tablespoons to my jalapeño cheddar burgers! It might sound unusual, but the flavor is incredible, adding a delightful touch of sweetness to these savory burgers. Have you ever heard of peanut butter bacon jalapeño burgers? I’m not quite brave enough to try them yet! There are so many fun ways to enhance grilled turkey burgers.
One of my favorites is adding brown sugar, soy sauce, onions, beef bouillon, and cheddar cheese! My uncle made these burgers with buttery grilled buns when we were kids. I love ketchup and mustard, but these were so delicious that you didn’t need any extras.

Nutrition

You can switch up the cheese by using white cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack for these burgers. And if you’re not a fan of turkey, ground chicken works perfectly as a substitute!
The choice between yellow and white cheddar usually comes down to aesthetics and personal preference, as the taste and texture are generally the same.

Questions for you!
- What are your favorite burger toppings?
- What side do you always have with burgers?
- Do you grill in the summer?

Hi Taralynn,
Hope Bugs is treating you well and there’s no crazy leap or sleep regression happening right now. Those can be a little overwhelming sometimes. I’m impressed that you still have the time to blog as much as you do!
1. What are your favorite burger toppings?
Usually Swiss cheese and a Chipotle mayo BUT…we just recently bought a bacon jalapeño jam from a local business at a craft fair…OMG. it’s so good! That with a little pepperjack cheese is my go-to right now! (We Be Jamming. They are based in Rhode Island and they ship if you are interested!)
2. What side do you always have with burgers?
It depends on my mood. Sometimes I just do a typical BBQ chip, but there is a local market about 5 minutes from me that had AMAZING pasta salads and potato salads. I usually buy those if I’m having an actual cookout.
3. Do you grill in the summer?
You mean do I breathe air? OF COURSE! Now that we bought a house with a deck, it’s so much easier to just step right out and fire up the grill. It used to be across our VERY long driveway and it wasn’t close to the door at all. Not ideal with two kids 3 and under. Now I can just pop over to the grill quickly while the kids sit at the kitchen island and watch an episode of Bluey!
I may have to add this recipe to my rotation. We like our burgers with a little kick to them, so this sounds right up our alley!
What is your favorite food to grill in the summertime? How is Bugs enjoying your beautiful yard? Hope it’s not too brutally hot down there! MA got a glorious heat (and humidity) wave last week that kept me hidden inside with the kids for most of the day. I was only able to take them outside to play in the morning before lunchtime and our evening walk was completely out of the question! We are back to the 80s this week though!
Girl this was toooooo gooood, I made with a side of carrot fries!!
Taralynn, this is probably the best burger I’ve had and the fact that it’s a healthy burger is just so cool!! I made this yesterday for my husband and I at lunch and his exact words were ‘I don’t know what you just served me, but I like it so much better than our normal hamburgers’ haha. He couldn’t believe it was turkey, he couldn’t tell, he just knew it wasn’t what I normally fix. I loved it too! I made it on our stove because we don’t have a grill, but your instructions were perfect for how long to cook on each side, and I would absolutely make them again! I’d give this recipe 10 stars if I could, thank you so much for sharing this, friend!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend! 🙂
Ashley
So so so happy you loved it!!!!
