I’ve been up since 4 am this morning. The past three weeks have been the biggest rollercoaster when it comes to emotions. My body has taken a hit with a lot of anger, happiness, stress, confusion, fear, excitement, sadness, and it’s all been a little overwhelming. This house was a breeze until the final month came along (don’t worry, a blog all about it is coming!) I can honestly say, all of the fear and uneasy feelings have faded, and I’m in full excitement mode. We had a walkthrough last night, and I can honestly say I’m shocked. I didn’t think they’d be able to get the home finished in time, but it’s done, and it’s beautiful. Of course, there are things I am going to change that I regret choosing or paint colors I don’t love. That’s the beauty of a home; you get to do things that make it feel more YOU. I’m so excited about those projects, and I’m looking forward to sharing new projects on the blog. This morning, we are closing. And since it’s going to be rainy on Saturday, we decided to have furniture delivered, organize closets, our security installed, doors painted, and then we will officially move our stuff in on Sunday.
Since I’m getting ready to close the chapter on my townhome, I thought I’d share a few photos from the place I’ve called home the past three and a half years. I didn’t think I was going to miss this place, but it’s hitting me now. I loved everything about living in my neighborhood, and I always felt so cozy and at home here. It’s going to take a while before the new house has those same feelings, but I know it will start feeling “right” with time. This townhome was the perfect first starter home or me. I’m confident that the new owner is going to take the best care of it. Hearing how much she loved, it made my heart happy knowing that this place is going to be in good hands. I didn’t think I’d ever had an attachment to this place, especially as a military kid who lived in over 15+ houses. As soon as the boxes were packed, and I looked around, I felt the attachment. I think about the dogs, the first time I walked into the doors, and how happy the memories have been here. But, life is about moving forward and creating new memories in new places. I’m excited to take you all with me for the next chapter.
Fall was hands down my favorite time of year at the townhome. It was so cozy, and I loved the changing leaves on my maple in the front yard. And the deep pink crepe myrtle is going to be severely missed! I’m replacing a tree in my new front yard with a crepe myrtle because I loved it so much.
The back porch was always an amazing place to read a book, grill out, or have coffee on in the morning. My dad and I had a lot of fun building the furniture.
My bedroom was my favorite room. I ALWAYS felt so cozy!
That tub got me through some cold winter nights and a lot of vlogmas episodes.
I will admit, I’m SO excited about our new laundry room and master shower.
I loved my kitchen, but I’ve always dreamed of a white kitchen surrounded by windows. I had a lot of fun replacing the backsplash with my dad on this kitchen project. We started painting the cabinets but had them changed back because it didn’t look good 😂
My favorite place to hang out!
My dad and I are going to be building another table to fit the new dining room. This is going to be finished with a protectant coat and go outside for backyard dinners. It’ll be in the new kitchen until we get that built.
The couch is staying with the house! We have new ones coming that I’m excited about, but now we need to find something that will fit our loft.
I LOVED this office project!
This bathroom was bright green when I moved in.
Cozy guest room. It’s much better in person because the views from the window are so green and lush. I’m going to miss this spot! ♥️
It’s time for me to get dressed and head out for the closing! Follow along on my home’s Instagram account: Cottage Story. I’ll do some tours!
Questions for you!
- Do you have an attachment to your current home?
- What is your favorite season when it comes to your house?
- Any tips for adjusting the dogs to the move? I feel like they’re going to be scared!

Hey girl I’m so excited for you!! I’m still 3 months away from my new house being done, but I ended up listing my townhouse a few days ago because I was worried in this current climate it might take a long time to sell even though I’m in a super desirable neighborhood. Our realtor did a virtual tour and today we have our first serious in-person buying coming (they’ll be wearing booties on their shoes, masks, gloves, etc of course!). Reading through your post made me realize just how much I’m going to miss my townhouse too. I was looking at pics from when I first moved in back in 2016 and how it looks today, and my fiance and I put so much work and love we put into it! Excited for the next chapter though too, and looking forward to vicariously living through you these next few months while I wait for my house to be done! CONGRATS!!!!

Congrats on the new home! And I just wanted to say thank you, the sentence you wrote about life being about moving forward and making new memories was so encouraging for me as I get ready to move to a completely new city for work. I hope you are getting settled into your new home and that you, Kyle and your doggos are loving it! 🙂

Congratulations Taralynn. Glad they got your stuff fixed up for move in! Praying you have a good move.
Put the pups familiar stuff out, hide treats for them around the house, and we boarded the dog for our move and that reduced his stress I think because he wasn’t around for the moving men or all the in and out from old place to new place. I’m sure you’ve got a plan for them (at your parents house this wkend?) so theyre out of the way until next week when its time to ease them into their new space.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Jenny!!
We will definitely keep them away from all the craziness of moving. We are going to let them go into the house after it’s furnished! My dogs are so smart and know exactly what the boxes are for lol
xo xo thank you for all of your tips!!

Yes! Currently in an apartment but have been here since 2017. I know that in a year or two when I move it’ll be bittersweet. The office staff and maintenance guy have been so great it’ll be sad to leave! But so great to have my own home for sure.
I LOVE summer. My patio overlooks a ton of lawn and trees and it’s always so lush, green, and well maintained. Love it even more with a good sunset!
I wish I had a dog to give you tips 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
That is so awesome you found a place like that! ♥️
Awww & it sounds gorgeous!!!
Kristin says
Your townhome always looked so cozy!!! Good luck today! Deep breaths and take it all as it comes! It will be worth it in the end!
We had a strong attachment to our first home, it was the house my father in law grew up in, we just out grew it. We took the excitement with a new home to help with the sadness!

Thanks so much, Kristin!!

Fall is always my favorite season year around, even down by the beach. It’s when everyones back to school, there aren’t as many tourists and its just quiet & cool. I love your fall front porch, I can’t wait to see what you do with your new home, I hope you’ll share. My favorite thing about our current home is the stove in my kitchen. It’s vintage (1960’s) and its yellow. I love cooking on it and people love seeing it. I share it on Insta a lot under #LittleYellowStove I’m also super excited about your new table I’ve always loved the one your dad built, I hope you’ll share a post on him building it or a how too!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Ashton!
I’m sure it’s so much more peaceful then for sure!
I’ll definitely be sharing a TON more with this home! WOW a vintage stove sounds so awesome!! I’ll have to look it up!!
We are going to work on some DIY blogs for the wood projects!

Hi Taralynn,
I remember the day you moved into this house! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already!
I do have an attachment to my current home because it’s my first apartment in Barcelona where I didn’t have flatmates. I moved in alone and then few months later my boyfriend moved in with me so it will always be my first real home in Barcelona. We are planning to stay here for a year or two years more and they we would like to buy our own place 😉
I will be thinking of you on Sunday, big hug! <3
Taralynn McNitt says
Crazy how fast time flies!!
Sounds like you have the perfect place right now 😊

Beautiful home! I love the look of your new house from what I’ve seen and can’t wait for a photo tour! I’m sorry to hear about all of the stress and frustration these past few weeks.
My parents just sold my childhood home two weeks ago and I’m more bummed than I thought I’d be! They were there 28 years and lived only 6 miles from me. To this day I still go to their pool almost every weekend in the summer to see them and hang out in their gorgeous backyard. I always pictured one day having kids and taking them over there to use the pool and do the same thing so I’m a bit disappointed to see it go. But I’m happy they are were able to sell in this current market and have the ability to downsize and travel as they have always wanted. I never thought I’d feel so emotionally attached to a home so I understand how you are feeling.

You will probably want to wash everything but keep a couple blankets and pillows and pup beds not washed so it has the same smells. The pups will want familiar smells around in the new home :D. So excited for y’all!!!!
