One of the most frequent questions I’ve been asked in the past few months is about my wedding plans. I can finally share a bit more now that some exciting family news is out, and Kyle and I have officially decided on what we are going to do. We had gone back and forth so many times, but finally, feel 100% with our decision.
A few months ago, we had an entire wedding planned for this September, but luckily nothing booked. We had the date, the caterers, the venue, the photographer, the hotel, the guest list, and more. The day before booking, we found out that a few family members were not going to be able to make it (for very good reasons), but they are so important to us, and there was no chance we’d have a wedding without them.
We couldn’t push the wedding up because our preferred vendors are booked, and I won’t get my wedding dress until July. And when I do get it back, I’ll have to get it altered, which can take weeks. It takes about eight months for them to make, which is crazy, but I’m so excited to see it when it arrives.
I’ve always dreamed of getting married around the greenery and tons of flowers, so a winter or fall wedding was out for me.
After a few days of talking and going over our options, Kyle and I crossed out our entire wedding plans. We crumbled up the paper and tossed it into the trash. Trying to plan everything last-minute, searching for locations, and trying to accommodate everyone was getting really tough. Not only was it getting tough, but holy moly was also getting expensive. It seemed like nothing was working out, but I’m one of those people that pay attention to timing, and I felt like the universe was trying to tell me that this was not our time. I tried to force it, and everything kept working against me. I’m a believer in paying attention to the signs of the universe, so that’s what I decided to do.
Above photos from Brian D Smith Photography!
We came to the best decision for us, and it’s funny how my stress level with from an eight to a two within seconds.
We will be getting married in the early summer of 2021, and I am so excited! There is no time limit to when you have to plan a wedding after getting engaged, and for some reason, I kept thinking there was. This gives us enough time to plan what we want, enjoy living in our new home for a while without the stress of a wedding a few months after, and it gives our family time to plan their schedules as well.
So…you’re probably wondering what kind of wedding we are going to have.
You may or may not be shocked by this, but we have decided to have an intimate micro wedding. It’s going to be so small, but so incredibly special for us. We want a casual, low-key, and meaningful day spent with our family members.
Photos by Erin Wilson Photo
I’ve shared some styled photos that bring me joy, and I’ll for sure be using them as inspiration when planning the final details.
Here are a few details:
We will be celebrating our marriage on a flower farm with our close family, followed by a candlelit farm-to-table dinner. This gives me butterflies inside and brings me so much happiness. A day surrounded by family and flowers? A dream! We found the sweetest bed and breakfast close to the farm that our family will be booking for the weekend, and we can’t wait to hang out by the fire, enjoy good food, and be together.
We don’t have everything booked yet, but we are officially excited about our plans. We are visiting a few flower farms this spring to tour for our wedding, and I know all of the other things will fall into place. The best part is that I’m not stressed about it at all. Call me crazy, but sometimes listening to the universe is important.
This September, the original day we were going to get married, we will be throwing a house warming/engagement party to celebrate with our close friends! We want them to be apart of it in some way, and we feel this is a great way to include them.
I do hope this answered some of the questions you’ve been wondering about my wedding! I know it was weird when I all of a sudden stopped talking about it, but I had my reasons!
♥️ Now, you all can ask away, and I will try to answer them all the best I can!
Questions for you!
- Are you a believer in signs from the universe?
- Did you have a small or big wedding? (not married? what do you dream of!)
- Are there any websites you like to browse for wedding inspiration?

I’m so excited for you! I first started following you on Pinterest many years ago and it’s been wonderful seeing your journey! Everything you post is beautiful and seems so representative of “you,” so I hope you stick to just being “you” for your wedding plans. This is a fleeting time; try to enjoy it as much as possible and be present. Take care!

Thank you so much, Anna!
This definitely feels ME! 😊 Thanks for your words of wisdom! xo xo

I totally believe in signs, sometimes people say I am to into reading things. But over the years and with age I believe everything happens for a reason. We wont always know why but in the end it all comes out the ways its meant. Congrats on putting you and Kyle first and not pleasing everyone. This is your guys day.
Taralynn McNitt says
You are an amazing person.
Thank you for that ♥️

Hello Tara
I was lucky that it was my father who married me.
This happened in Burgundy France in the countryside with flowers and very simply.
I strongly believe in the signs of the universe.
Your wedding will be beautiful. 🌷😘
Taralynn McNitt says
It sounds like a gorgeous wedding for you!
Emilie deluneetdetoiles says
I’m so sorry. My English is very so bad.
I married my husband not my father! 🙈😅.
But my father being the mayor of my village it was he who celebrated
It 😉😅

I knew what you meant 😊

Love this blog post and how you seem so relaxed and less dressed with pushing the date back. It won’t be different marrying this year to next, a whole extra year of living together sounds beautiful.
1. Yes, I do think there are signs from the universe! Just to help us a bit along the way.
2. I’m in no way married! But last week I went to a beautiful beach wedding (I live in Australia) it was intimate and over looking the ocean from a private room. If I was to be married it would be there! Or maybe a small winery! There are just so many choices!
3. Pinterest!!
Love your blog! Wishing you and Kyle the best with moving in soon! 🏠

Than you so much, Sophie! ♥️
That sounds like a gorgeous wedding 💜

I had a big southern wedding in Charleston , SC (my hometown) I told my husband that that was the only place that I could ever get married haha. He is originally from Chicago and we were already living in Oklahoma (Air Force pilot)
We planned our wedding for a year and a half and we used a wedding planner, but nevertheless it was so much work. We had approximately 300 guest, including children. We didn’t want to leave anyone out.
We had a church ceremony and our reception was at the SC Aquarium overlooking the Ravenel bridge.
So excited for you and I wish nothing but the best!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Sharon!
Charleston is such a gorgeous spot to get married! 300 people is a lot, but I bet that day was so special and I’m glad you had the help from a planner!
And thank your husband and you for your service! My brother is also in AF! xo

OMG this is SO similar to what we went through. We planned a big wedding for November of 2020 but it just was so stressful and expensive and didn’t seem very me.
We ended up moving our wedding WAY up. We”ll be getting married in April at a winery with only close family and friends (super small). The winery has villas for everyone to stay at. We are having a simple ceremony with a farm to table dinner and then just spending time together with our loved ones. Even though its sooner, it’s been so easy to plan and totally stress free. Happy you found something that just feels right like I did.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Madison!
Definitely seems like we had the same ideas! Sounds like your wedding is going to be so much more YOU and less stressful! I hope you come back and share your wedding photos with me! I LOVE looking at them and yours sounds like a dream!
Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I know it’s going to be gorgeous and special!

Our engagement was 2.5 years. Each month we paid for another element as financing the event was entirely on us. I was also finishing PA school at the time and wanted that behind us as well as our honeymoon to be elaborate with 12 days in Maui. Then, I started my career. Best decision ever. Now, age 31 with two kids. Married 8 yrs and together 14. Enjoy your engagement! It only happens once! Congratulations!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Alaina!
I love that ♥️ We are hoping to do the same, and then actually have time to do a fun honeymoon after. The timing just works better! Love knowing that you took your time and your day was perfect. Thank you for sharing all of that with me and congrats on everything!

I definitely believe that everything happens for a reason. My boss told me that once and it has really rung true with all the crazy things that go on in life.
My husband and I had a decent size wedding after my very well meaning mother in law kind of hijacked it and then had to invite this person and that person to “not hurt anyone’s feelings”. Almost 100 people attended and it was so nerve wracking for me because I hate being the center of attention. I actually ended up throwing up twice from nerves during the reception! Not fun to say the least. If I could do it over I would either elope or have something really small. Other people’s opinions be damned!
Taralynn McNitt says
Most definitely!
The whole “invite this person or that person” is a real thing lol. And then it becomes “what’s one more person?” So totally get that! That started happening, so we ended up closing it off to our list and staying FIRM on that no matter the outside voices, and it’s definitely tough since I’m a naturally a people pleaser.
I’m sure your wedding was stunning though! ♥️

I got married in November 2019 and we had 10 guests plus myself and my husband. It was perfect we had just moved from New Zealand to Scotland all but one of the guests travelled across the World to be with us on that day. Most stayed with us before at some point and made a holiday out of the wedding visiting different places some went to London, some went to Iceland and some just travelled around Scotland. We had our dinner together at a large oval table and splurged for a very elegant venue, food and wine because of having so few guests.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds perfect! & so special.

Congrats! A wedding on a flower farm sounds like a dream. What is the big family announcement?
Happy you’re doing the wedding at your pace and what is meaningful to you vs cultural time constraints.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Lina!
Thanks so much, 😊 Wish I could share the family announcement on the blog but it’s definitely not my place to do so! I’m sure you’ll all find out soon though 😊
I love that you said that. I think Cultural time constraints is a big one, and so glad we are doing our own thing!

We got married on a farm in summer surrounded by nature and loved it! Keep in mind the heat- it was a billion degrees! Followed your blog for many years. We have very similar styles! I have a few Pinterest boards you might like for inspiration. Keep in mind nobody cares if you have monogrammed napkins or if your chairs match your plates or whatever. People want good food, good drinks, and good music! Also from your last blog post, I’m a silent reader as well 🙂 I will try to comment more! Really enjoy your blogs and am inspired to go back to NC or SC and visit these places! Just built our dream home too. Enjoy! @hey_ninny
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes! The heat is definitely something to consider, but we are doing early summer in the mountains so it’ll be much cooler!
I’ll definitely check out your inspiration boards! thank you! 😃 I only have family there so no fancy napkins or matching chairs have even crossed my mind lol It’ll be so casual!
Thank you for the kind words and all the advice!

This sounds like it will be beautiful! I got engaged right around when you did (end of August) and we are not getting married until February 2021! A lot of friends and family asked why we’re waiting so long but I don’t think its long at all about a year and a half and I want to be able to enjoy it and not feel rushed just like you 🙂 I still haven’t gone dress shopping but I am looking forward to doing that I think in April or May! It will be fun following along your wedding planning while I do mine as well! Congrats and enjoy it all!
Taralynn McNitt says
Congrats on your engagement, Katherine!
I love that you’re taking your time with it all as well! 💜
Have so much fun dress shopping!!!
Whitney says
I too waited to get married after we got engaged. We actually ended up waiting almost 2 years to do it! It worked out perfectly that way and we had the best day. By waiting, we were able to get everything we wanted and at the price we wanted. It made a big difference too because we had about 110 people.
Pinterest was the biggest and best help for everything we did. Everything about my wedding was DIY, right down to the sheet music paper flowers I made for my bouquet!
I wish you the very best as you plan everything. Enjoy the process and don’t let it stress you out!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Whitney!
That’s what we are doing! 😊 The rush of it all didn’t feel good and I was settling for thigs.
Thanks for sharing your big day and I love hearing that yours turned out just the way you wanted it.

Jessica says
I LOVE this idea! There is no rush to get married. My husband and I were engaged for 2 1/2 years before our wedding day. It even took us months to pick out our wedding date. So many people kept asking when our wedding was, even right when we got back from the trip where we got engaged. The questions just add to the stress and made me feel like I was unorganized. But then I realized that who cares, this is what he and I want and that way we aren’t stressed with planning. I wasn’t stressed one bit with plans because we didn’t need to rush anything! Long engagements are wonderful and you have so many things to look forward to in the meantime 😊
Farm/outdoor weddings are the best, we loved ours! Our venue had a maximum capacity of 150 people but we probably ended up having a little over 100 people, which was the perfect size for us. I was constantly on Pinterest looking for inspiration, but I also loved looking at junebugweddings.com and greenweddingshoes.com. Would also find some great wedding photographers who I couldn’t personally hire, but would look at their blog and get inspiration from the gorgeous weddings they shot.
Happy planning!! 😊
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jessica!
You’re right about that. I think with so many people asking, we felt the pressure to figure it out, but finally realized we could just choose whichever. I do understand people want to plan their lives, but that does make it more pressure! lol I really appreciate you sharing that with me and I feel so much better knowing that our choices are completely normal!
I also love Green wedding shoes!
Kate says
Congratulations! I totally know where you’re coming from. I was supposed to get married last fall! But my fiance and I ended up moving across the country instead, and so we’ve put it on the back burner, but we love our life and it was absolutely the right call!
Wishing you luck with all the planning and can’t wait to follow along in the process as much as you want to share!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Kate!
Thank you so much! Sounds like you made the right decision! ♥️
I can’t wait to share the process!
Kristin says
That sounds amazing and like the perfect way to celebrate! I believe that weddings should absolutely be exactly what YOU want. I do also believe in signs from the universe and it’s awesome it worked out that way!
We did a quick engagement/marriage (6 months) because we wanted a fall wedding. Ultimately it wound up being perfect for us but I know everyone is in their own style! Pinterest didn’t quite exist yet so I was all about just googling at the time!
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree 😊
I loved my best friend’s fall wedding and it worked out perfect for her! If fall had the flowers in full-bloom I would have wanted that! But I do love fall!
Rosanne says
So happy for you both and small and intimate sounds so much more like you both…I did very small and not a single regret! And, YES, I absolutely believe in signs.

I love that you’re taking your time and taking the stress out of it! Your wedding is about you and Kyle and I’m so glad you were able to figure out a way that works for you two and gets you everything that you want! Can’t wait to see more when you are ready to share it and GIRL I can’t wait to see your dress next year 😍
1) 100% I believe the universe sends us signs. If you’re lucky enough to see them and read them right then things fall into place. Sometimes it’s hard to find them or we miss them but I’m so glad you saw yours!
2) Not married but in a long term relationship. We don’t have plans to get married but I wouldn’t be against it. I’d do something small or honestly the justice of the peace!
3) I’m a Pinterest girl all the way!
Always enjoy your blog! I’m going to try to not be invisible anymore because I know how important this medium is to you! And I’d hate to see it become something else!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Amy!
Thank you for that ♥️ We are so excited about taking our time and enjoying a long engagement! Feeling rushed is the worst.
Love that & you’re so right about the universe and its signs.
Absolutely perfect wait for you to get married!
yes for sure!!!
Thank you so much for commenting and connecting!! It truly means the world to me!

I am so happy to see I’m not the only one who did this. I got engaged recently and everyone was asking for a date and where the wedding would be. I found myself looking at a venue I didn’t love with a guest list of way more people than I’m comfortable with. My fiancé and I took a step back and decided to wait we are getting married June 5th 2021 in my dream venue which has a guest limit and Im no longer stressed and worried about our day. I’m glad you are following your heart and having the wedding you want!! Congratulations!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Whittney!
Looks like it’s a pretty normal thing to do! Glad you both also took that step back to plan what you want!!
Congrats to you as well 😊

So. Happy. For. You!!!!! I fully believe in signs from the universe. You have to listen to the things around you that intervene or else you can head down a very wrong path. I’m super jealous about a wedding on a flower farm! How amazing is that!? Our wedding was less than 100 people and it was wonderful. You have to do what is right for you! Also, Pinterest is where I lived as I wedding prepped. I even pin wedding stuff now and I don’t have any reason to do so!
Congrats!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Alexa!
Thank you so so so much!! Your wedding sounded perfect, and holy yes…Pinterest is QUEEN!!
Paige Muse says
Hey Taralynn,
I am so happy for you and Kyle with all of the exciting things you have coming y’all’s way! My husband and I got married this past November which was about a year and 2 months after we got engaged. We had originally thought it would take two years at least for us to save money and plan a wedding, but we happened to be blessed with help from our families. There is never a time limit on such things and I think it’s great that you have listened to the signs God has given you and taken a step back to enjoy the whole process. Having that time is the best thing to do for planning a wedding. There could be stress added a long the way and pray for y’all’s sake there isn’t, but if so, always remember what it is that you’re planning and how happy this marriage is going to make you both.
I wanted to answer the questions you shared as well:
1. I do believe that God sends us signs through the universe constantly. Sometimes it just takes a little while for us to see them clearly.
2. My husband and I had what felt like a fairly big wedding. We invited around 230 people and about 150-180 showed up on the big day. I loved the idea of having a small, intimate wedding, but it just wasn’t possible with our huge families and close knit friends. I will say that we loved how every single thing turned out and couldn’t have asked for a better day.
3. I got almost every single idea from Pinterest or wedding venue instagrams that I liked. Mostly Pinterest though. 😉
P.S. I love the short updates as well as your weekly recaps. Thank you for being so open and sharing with us all.
I wish the best for your and Kyle through every bit of the house build & wedding planning.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Paige!
Thank you for all of that 😊

We had a small wedding (12 people including us) 22 years ago. I had a beautiful wedding gown and flowers and it was all at a gorgeous inn. I have never felt like I missed out in any way and it was completely low stress. It was intimate and romantic and just a perfect way to start a marriage.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds exactly like what I’m doing! ♥️

If I get married one day (I’d love to give my puppy a dad!), I want something really intimate, my dream is just the two of us (I’m painfully introverted)
I also have a pinterest board called “Wedding inspiration” just in case ^^
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds PERFECT!! ♥️ I totally had a secret wedding board lol

I am so happy that you are having a wedding that’s perfect for you and your boo! So many people fall into planning something for their guests rather than themselves. I had a small 36-guest wedding on the rooftop of a bar overlooking downtown Tucson and the mountains. It was so pretty and non-traditional. I also was already legally married (we had our wedding on our 1 year anniversary.) Tradition is nice but only when it resonates with you. I 100% believe in signs from the Universe and find that when I pay attention, things go a lot better. I hope you enjoy your engagement and planning process!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Astyn!!
Your wedding sounds perfect, and exactly what you wanted! I agree that tradition has to resonate with you!
♥️ thanks so much again!

My husband and I did this! We had 16 people including us, just our immediate family and 4 of our best friends. We live in Florida and we got married in Asheville this past October for no other reason than we love NC (and we love the Fall!). I could not handle the stress of a big wedding and always wanted to do a small destination wedding/elopement. Best decision ever. We spent a few days in Savannah after for a mini-moon 🥰
I’ve been following your blog since 2011, thank you for all you share! Congrats to you both on the wedding and your beautiful new home!
Taralynn McNitt says
Love that!! I’m the same with it comes to the stress of planning anything big, and most planners are pretty pricey.
Savannah is a great mini-moon spot! One of my favorite cities!!
Marcella says
I think yes, not necessarily signs from the universe but things always work out the way they’re supposed to! I’m not married yet but I go between a big and small wedding – I want all my friends there and want to walk down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon but I also would love a small morning wedding at the courthouse. My parents had a small wedding in the morning and had cake at an old mansion, and then my mom said they had to move the party elsewhere so they had a keg in their front yard, lol.
I definitely want something low-key engagement wise though, I told my boyfriend I want my late grandmother’s engagement ring so he doesn’t have to spend any money on it! Maybe my mom’s dress (that my grandma also wore) if I could fit into it!
I don’t have a favorite wedding website but I do love looking at the dresses at BHLDN, I’m a sucker for a minimal/classic dress (i.e. Meghan Markle’s dress, loved it).
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Marcella!
Haha, that’s too funny. My parent’s actually got married on their front lawn in their navy uniforms. Soometimes those front lawn weddings are the best 😉
Love that you’re thinking of adding special pieces into your big day.
ohhhh the BHLDN had amazing dresses!!

So happy for you!
I’m having my engagement party this Saturday and I got engaged this past Christmas Day. I wanted to do something now to celebrate with the family and tell them we won’t be doing our wedding until next year and we felt like the best way to communicate was through a engagement dinner at our apartment. Also we will be telling them that the wedding won’t be in the USA, but in Brazil (where I’m from) so my family can be there since it is almost impossible to get visas to come here and the dollar exchange is outrageous! I hope it all goes well and they are happy for us. My family in the other hand is upset for missing out the engagement party since they do not live here, but I guess they can focus on the bigger party next year! 2021 will be great and we will be engaged altogether for 1 year and 9 months plus we have been together since 2014. What’s the rush anyways? We got the rest of our lives!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Carolina!
I’m reading this comment on Saturday, soooo GOOD LUCK TODAY AND HAVE THE BEST TIME!! Just remember, you can’t please everyone, and you have to do what YOU and your fiance want to do.

That sounds so dreamy and perfect for you!! I had a short engagement and big wedding, and I wouldn’t say I regret it because it all turned out perfect, but I think there are definite upsides to having a longer engagement and small wedding! You’ll get more time to just enjoy and appreciate being engaged. Life goes by so fast so just take that season of life in while you’re in it! And small wedding means you get to spend so much time with just the people you love most! Sounds perfect!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Katie!
You’re so right about that 😊 Thank you for all of that!

Good for you for taking a step back and allowing things to be changed. I am a firm believer in listening to your gut and the universe. It is also great to have less stress! I was engaged for 17 months before getting married. It was so nice to be able to take my time to figure things out. Ours was a mid-sized wedding, around 70 people. I got all of my ideas/inspiration from Pinterest and The Knot. I also went to a local bridal show (against my will, but a co-worked dragged me there and I’m so glad she did!) where I found most of my local vendors. From your inspiration pics, it looks like your wedding will be stunning. Have fun with it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much, Julie!

Congratulations so happy for you guys, wedding planning is stressful. I don’t really believe in signs from the universe, i believe God has a plan for all of us, and our plans may not be His plans. My hubby and i will be married 10 years march 10th. We basically eloped at the court house, on a wednesday, with just my mom and a couple friends there. All that matters is the two of you. I wish you so much joy and happiness. It will be beautiful no matter what 💗
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Audrey!
Congrats on 10 years! How amazing 🌸
Love that it was so special and filled with love on your day!

I’m so happy that you and Kyle figured out what is best for the two of you! There is absolutely no deadline to get married once you’re engaged. You will love having the extra time to plan everything and it will be the day you two are dreaming of.
I absolutely believe in signs from the universe. When I’m met with a lot resistance, it usually means I need to take a step back and reevaluate what I’m trying to do. There is usually an easier path 🙂
My wedding was somewhere between small and medium. We had around 100 guests attend. It wasn’t quite as intimate as I wanted it to be, but we (and our families) were so excited to share our day with the people we care about so our invite list grew quickly 🙂
Pinterest was my go-to for inspiration, but I had to remind myself that a lot of the wedding photos on there are from staged shoots and not real weddings. I would also google certain things for weddings and look through google images for inspiration.
Wishing you two the best with wedding planning!!

Thanks so much, Jessica!
You’re right about that list growing quickly lol. It’s so hard. But it sounds like you had an amazing wedding!

I completley agree with you that sometimes you have to listen to the universe and obviously Kyle is not going anywhere so whats the rush. You are going to be a gorgeous bride ! I love all your wedding ideas .

Hi Taralynn,
I think you made the best decision! There is no rush, enjoy your engagement and your new house this year 🙂 Besides, if the universe wants you guys to be together, you will be together no matter what, even if you wait for this da for years 🙂 I can’t wait to see you celebrating your wedding next spring! 🙂
I defnititelty believe in signs, it helped me with many important decisions in my life.
I always try not to force things when I have the feeling that something is not going in the right direction or when the moment is just not right. We should follow this kind of intuition more often.
I dream of small wedding in a beautiful garden with my closest family and friends 🙂
PS. The idea of throwing a house warming/engagement party in September sounds great!
Kisses!

Hi, Milena!
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊 I feel the same way!!
Your wedding sounds like my dreams as well! xo xo

My engagement was about a year and a half and I don’t think I’d have it any other way! I couldn’t imagine trying to throw something together in less than a year. We really enjoyed spending our time slowly planning and taking breaks when we needed to. Congratulations! Your day sounds lovely.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Suzanne!
And some people are so good about throwing it together in a few months or a year, but for my case…not so much lol

Sometimes, but most of the time I’m like eh, what’s the worst that could happen? I know it’s terrible.
I want a big wedding. But my brother is getting married in December and it’s only 30 people. It’s been hectic for them trying to figure out who can and can’t go, people inviting themselves, etc. It’s also a destination wedding in Colorado.
I just browse pinterest for inspiration.
Question, are you not inviting friends to your wedding?
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes, the guest list thing can get pretty complicated. The more people you have the more stress it adds with the cost, accommodations, transportation, and please more people.
We are only doing family and my best friend Becca will be there.
Jenna Rall says
Oh so you’re wedding is going to be super intimate. How do you tell your other friends that they’re not invited? Not trying to be rude by any means, but my best friend of like 16 years is getting married in October in Savannah and they’re only allowed 10 people, in the beginning I was one of those 10 now I’m not on the list at all and a little hurt. Trying to be supportive but I just thought I was considered family more than some of her actual family.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jenna!
I definitely understand your feelings on that. My wedding is going to be VERY intimate, and it’s something I’ve always wanted. The more people that I thought about inviting led to more and more and more. I’ve still have continued to say “no” again and again when the family asks me to invite people. It sucks, but it’s our day and we don’t want it to be anything other than what we dreamed of. It became extremely stressful, expensive, and turned into something that I didn’t want. After all of that, we decided it’s best that we only invite our parents and siblings. This cut out aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, and so on. I think the hardest part is that just because I didn’t invite these people that I care about doesn’t mean I don’t care about them. I was nervous they’d think I was doing it to leave them out, but that’s not the case. I’ve actually been surprised at how supportive all of my family and friends have been about my wedding wishes, and that’s made it so much easier on me. I still love all of them, but just wanted something intimate for my wedding. I know it’s easier said than done, but trying to not take it personally is most likely the best thing you can do. I’m sure she was incredibly nervous to tell you that it’s the only family, but in the end, it’s her day. Being friends with someone for 16 years is a lot, so it makes sense that you’d feel hurt. I wouldn’t rule out talking to her about how you feel, but in a way where she doesn’t feel stressed or bad about her choices. I had planned to have my family only, but after a few weeks of thinking on it, I didn’t feel right now having my best friend, Becca, there. Just kindly let her know how you feel, but don’t put any pressure on her. I definitely know how it feels on her end, but I don’t know how it feels on yours, so I’m sorry you’re feeling hurt.
Jenna Rall says
Your explanation was great! She ended up texting me this weekend and saying that she thought about it and at the end of the day she would rather have me there over her cousins. It seems intimate weddings are the new thing! Thanks for your input! <3

Lovee hearing that! ♥️ so happy for you!!

I’m shocked you’re having a small wedding since most bloggers have giant weddings
Taralynn McNitt says
Guess I’m not most bloggers 😊 But, I’ve also seen many bloggers have very small intimate weddings that were dreamy!

I want a fall wedding in the mountains 🙂 Growing up in Florida and only have 1 season year round really makes me appreciate all 4 seasons. Since fall is my absolute favorite with the leaves changing and the temperature beginning to cool, I want that as my backdrop.
Your wedding sounds perfect for you! Congratulations again Tara!

A fall wedding in the mountains is lovely! That’s how my best friend did it 😊

Wow your new wedding plans sound truly incredible. You know it’s the universe telling you something when your stress levels drop. I think I need to listen to the universe more often at the moment . Not married but I have always thought I would love a small family wedding in the forest near a river with fairy lights hanging from the trees. Please shear a post with some photo from the flower farms when to take a visit. Have a great weekend!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Harriet!
Your wedding will be beautiful one day! You’re one of the most creative people I know!
I will for sure share! xo

As a wedding photographer, I LOVEEEEEEE small, intimate weddings! Apart from the cultural aspects, I think large weddings are kind of dumb. It’s one day that’s supposed to celebrate you and your SO beginning the rest of your life together. It shouldn’t be a competition to have the biggest, shiniest, wedding of the century! Make it what YOU want and invite the people YOU want to celebrate with (obligation invitations are stupid, too!).
I love the inspo pics! Those colors and the greenery and going to look SO good! I’ve followed your blog for yearssssss and I’ve seen all the points of your life that you’ve shared. You’re an inspiration, and I can’t wait to see this next chapter for you!
Shannen
ps. If you’re still looking for a photographer 😉 I would be more than willing! haha
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha thank you 😊
You’re so right about all of that! I’m soo happy it’s going to be small and intimate! I do love fun and a big wedding, but it has to be for the right person!
Thanks for all the kind words!!

I LOOOOVE your wedding idea! Having a smaller, intimate wedding at a flower farm sounds like a dream. I’m not engaged (yet, our 4 year anniversary together is in June!) but I’ve began thinking of wedding stuff for the first time in my life. We both have somewhat large extended families and I started getting overwhelmed thinking of who to invite. Then I was worried about my parents having to pay for everything as it got bigger, so reading about your experience is making me think of things differently. Maybe something smaller is the way to go but still have an engagement bash with friends and family! I think I’ve just seen how everyone else always has weddings, and they’re big and lavish. But before you know it, the day is over because you spent the whole day talking to 100+ relatives. You’ve inspired me!! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more about your plans as they unfold. xoxo Kelsey

Thank you so much, Kelsey!
All of your thoughts were the same as mine, and all I can say is take your time with those choices. We felt like we HAD to have answers for people and you don’t.

Thank you for sharing your wedding plans with us! I think that is awesome that you and Kyle took a step back and decided to do what was going to make the two of you happy, because that is what matters!
I got engaged and married within 6 months. I am a teacher, so I really only had the option to have the wedding & honeymoon over my spring break or summer, and we didn’t want to wait for summer lol. I am very quiet and not at all a social person, so I never really dreamed of having a big wedding. I wanted it to be as small as possible, and just family. Even doing that, we still had about 70 people total. I really tried to not worry about what other people wanted and only focus on what was important to us, but it is so hard to do! I think overall we did well with it, I also did not have a wedding planner, It was completely DIY by me with the help of my sisters. There are a lot of little things I would’ve changed, but it all turned out well.
Enjoy the process, I know it will be so beautiful and special for you guys!

Big believer in the universe sending signs.
I am getting married in May and secretly dream of a tiny wedding with only our closest friends and family, but that is not in the plans. We both have so many people we care about and both come from huge families so we will celebrate big!
You’re plans look so beautiful and I can’t wait to hear more about it!

I am not surprised at all by your wedding choice! It will be amazing! I always wanted to get married on the beach. We rented a huge house right on the sand and had 40 of our closest friends and family spend a dreamy 4 days celebrating with us!

Hi Taralynn!
1. I am a believer in signs from God, for sure, not so much the universe.
2. I am married and will be for 8 years now in September! We had what I would consider a medium-big wedding lol. It was fun but so much stress for me! After reading about your plans for yours, OMGoodness I could cry! For happiness for you and how I would have loved to have a wedding like yours so much more than what I had for mine!! Maybe our 10 year anniversary will be more like that <3
3. I just love pinterest, haha!
So excited for y'all!! <3 <3 <3
