Glamping in a Teepee Hotel at Westgate River Ranch, Florida
A couple of weeks ago, I opened up my email and saw an invite to go glamping in Florida at Westgate River Ranch. Without looking at my schedule or thinking about it for more than a minute, I immediately replied with a big “YES.” Glamping has been on my bucket list for years, and this trip did not disappoint. I am so excited to share all of the photos from my weekend at the ranch, and I hope it inspires you to make a trip to experience it for yourself.
Westgate River Ranch is a luxurious resort and one of the coolest dude ranches in Florida! It has a lot of its historic charm from the days when it was used as an old cattle trail by the real cowboys. It lays on 1700 acres of waterways and green space. I have never been to a place quite like it, and it’s suitable for just about anyone or any occasion!
WESTGATE RIVER RANCH
In today’s blog, I will share everything we did on the ranch! The cool thing is that you never have to leave. They have everything available to you, and you’ll never get bored when activities surround you. I lived out my childhood dreams. This is the perfect place to escape your electronics and spend time outdoors on bikes, horseback riding, golfing, roasting marshmallows by the fire, playing tennis, swimming, trap, skeet shooting, archery, ziplining, and so much more.
There are so many options for accommodations at Westgate River Ranch. There are cottages, cabins, glamping tents, lodges, and even an—RV site.
Glamping Teepees at Westgate River Ranch
It was so fun to experience Glamping (Glamorous camping!). The Luxe teepee hotel had everything you needed and more. I had the outdoor experience while getting the luxurious one from inside the teepee. Every teepee has air conditioning and heat, private bathrooms and showers, a grill, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and an open patio with a deck. I loved sitting outside with my coffee on the rocking chairs. It’s so quiet in the mornings at the ranch, and it’s relaxing listening to the animals wake up. This was such a cozy spot.
The teepees are 651 sqft, which is pretty ginormous for a teepee. They are big enough for the whole family. And to top it off, the teepee hotel comes with a personal concierge who assists you with anything you need from the moment you arrive!
The perks of staying in a luxe teepee hotel are that you’ll have exclusive benefits like complimentary resort activities. You’ll get breakfast delivered each morning, a golf cart for commuting around the grounds, nightly campfires, VIP rodeo tickets, horseback riding, trap and skeet shooting, archery, access to the adventure park, airboat rides, and more.
The glamping site is called “The Takoda Village.” The glamping teepee hotel is private and gated. No one can enter the glamping site besides the glampers. You’ll be given a code that opens the gates, and you’ll be able to drive around in your golf cart.
In the middle of the village, there’s a Chickee hut where we gathered for most of our meals. It was built by the Seminole Indian tribe for the Takoda Village. Chicken is the word the Seminoles use for “house.” One of my favorite parts about the village was the old trees covered in Spanish moss. The way they light up at night was magical.
Roasting Marshmallows & Stargazing
On night one, we ended dinner with s’mores by the campfire and then laid a giant blanket out to stargaze. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a sky so clear. We saw several shooting stars, an excellent reminder to put the phone down now and then and get outside. Waking up and going outside to grab breakfast was so nice.
The village is so quiet in the morning, and you can only hear the farm animals. I recommend waking up early and catching the sunrise by the horses.
Breakfast Basket and Coffee Delivered Each Morning
Each morning, you get to select what you’d like for breakfast. You can choose from pastries, breakfast sandwiches, yogurts, fruits, cereals, and more! Around 8 am, it’s delivered to the porch with your own pot of coffee! The coffee was fantastic and was the perfect way to start the day before jumping into all the activities.
There are so many activities at the Westgate River Ranch! You’ll find something for yourself no matter what kind of traveler you are!
Activities at Westgate River Ranch
Full-service marina: 40 boat slips with hook-ups, 100-seat restaurant, airboat rides, swamp buggy rides, and fishing!

Horseback riding was so much fun and included in the Luxe teepee hotel package. You’ll take a 45-minute train ride around the resort, with breathtaking views!
Horseback Riding
A guide will take you through the trails, and you can schedule your times with your concierge. They even offer riding lessons and a few other services. If you’re a horse lover, this place will be your heaven!
Where is Westgate River Ranch Located?
Westgate River Ranch is located one hour south of Orlando and one hour and a half from the Orlando International Airport.
I love that the activities here take me out of the same old life routine. When will I ever go skeet and trap shooting or do archery in Charlotte? I would never have known how fun it is!
Archery and Skeet & Trap Shooting
There is a Trap and Skeet shooting range by the archery. If you want to learn how to be a real cowboy or cowgirl, this is where you’ll test your skills! I was shocked when I hit the bullseye and cracked a few targets. This is a great place to start if you’re a beginner because the expert marksman will teach you shotgun safety and shooting techniques before you begin.
I think one of the best parts of the trip was meeting Ray. He runs this place and has been here before most of you reading this blog were even born. He’s a man of ALL trades and was just about everywhere we went during our trip. He is the star of the rodeo on Saturdays, enjoys being out on the trails with the horses, preaches at the church on Sundays, and is the REAL cowboy. He also has a work ethic that is unheard of. He’s filled with amazing ideas and continuously upgrades the ranch to make it exciting.
We all wanted to see the longhorns and take photos of them, so Ray hopped over to the other side of the fence and got their attention. They all started running towards him, and Ray didn’t even flinch. He just casually walked back! It was so funny and scary, but Ray is a seasoned cowboy and has spent many years facing bigger bulls at the rodeo. The general store is a great spot for all the essentials.
General Store at Village Shops
This is where you can pick up extra snacks, coffee drinks, ice cream, and gifts, and it’s where I got my cowgirl hat! This is the spot to stop if you need a quick bite to eat or extra ingredients for your cookout.
There are plenty of options for food at the ranch!
The food at the Westgate River Ranch
You can pick up snacks and meals at the General Store for a quick go-to, or enjoy dinner at Westgate Smokehouse Grill, River Ranch Saloon, Dinner Hayride and Deli, and the catering services.
We experienced a Catering service, and it’s worth it! Holy moly, did the meals NOT disappoint over the weekend? The smoked bbq style food at the Hayride dinner was probably one of my favorite weekend meals!
The teepee hotel also comes with a grill and refrigerator, so if you want to bring food to cook by the campfire, you can also do that.
One of the most exciting activities was the swamp buggy. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did!
SWAMP BUGGY RIDE
You’ll take a 40-minute ride through the wooded trail and view wildlife in the most natural setting. The views are breathtaking, so I highly remind taking it early in the morning. I’ve never done anything like it! We drove through water, mud, tall grass, and logs. This is a good time to look out for alligators and other Florida wildlife. It’s a bumpy ride but unbelievably fun.
The real party is at the River Ranch Saloon. I am no dancer, but I had the time of my life!
Line Dancing at River Ranch Saloon
Every weekend, you can experience a wild crowd of line dancers. If you’ve never lined dance before, jump in and try it. Watching some of the dancers made my mouth drop because of how talented they were!
These baby goats were the cutest!
I could spend all day with the animals. The petting farm is a free activity and a great place to bring the kids.
PETTING FARM
You’ll find horses, cows, ponies, mules, goats, sheep, deer, turkeys, rabbits, pigs, llamas, emus, peacocks, and other exotic creatures. They also have pony rides for the littles. Another activity offered at the ranch is the airboat ride. This was such a unique experience!
Airboat Rides on the Kissimmee River
You’ll be given noise-blocking headphones (definitely needed) for the relaxing 40-minute guided Florida Airport ride along the Kissimmee River. This is another great opportunity to see the gators. And if you’re fortunate, you may spot a bald eagle. It goes super fast, and it’s quite an adventure!
The hayride dinner is a must! You will not regret the post-ride food.
Hayride Dinner
You’ll get to ride on a 45-minute old-fashioned, tractor-pulled hayride through the 7,000-acre Kissimmee Island Cattle Company Wildlife Management Area. You’ll see more wildlife, and if it’s a Saturday, you may be lucky enough to see Ray bringing in the bulls for the rodeo (yes, Ray does that too!)
We had live music, making the ride more enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks, Vic, for serenading us!
The food was sooooo good. If I could have taken leftovers home, I would have. Most of us went back for seconds because we couldn’t get enough. We had grilled chicken, smoked ribs, hot dogs, corn on the cob, mac & cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, apple cobbler and washed it all down with lemonade.
Grab your boots and get ready for the rodeo!!
We ended our night at the rodeo because that’s where everyone is on Saturday night. And yes, that’s also Ray on the horse! I’m not a big fan of bull riding, but I enjoyed the patriotic tribute to the armed forces, which made me into tears several times.
Your Saturday Night at The Rodeo
It’s cool to see extremely talented and hard-working kids with their horses! It’s rare nowadays. The fun doesn’t stop after the rodeo is over! The party goes on over at the Saloon. And if you’re feeling inspired to ride a bull, definitely try out their new mechanical bull. It’s hilarious to watch people fling off.
I did NOT want to leave! Staying cozy with coffee in a hammock, eating all the delicious food, and spending hours with horses was my dream glamping vacation. And I can’t forget to mention all the fantastic new friends I made on this trip. All of us strangers clicked within minutes, and it was truly one of the most unforgettable times! This is the perfect place to plan a retreat or a team-building weekend. I cannot wait to go back!
When I saw this mug, I knew I had to grab it for a travel giveaway! I love bringing a piece of my trip back to my readers! 💜 All you have to do is leave a comment answering one of the questions below. 😊

A few years ago I went glamping for a friends hens party at a winery, it was a truly incredible weekend. I haven’t tried line dancing yet, I would definitely give it ago.
Taralynn McNitt says
Glamping at a winery!! details please 😊
Harriet says
you can hire a glamping company to set up a glamping tent anywhere you want (even at your house for kids parties), so we rung a winery and asked if we could set one up there and they were more then happy to let us stay.

Wow! That looks like such a fun vacation!! Thank you for sharing it with us. Is it considered glamping if you were a senior in high school and your friends took their parents trailer and all we did was play the Sims inside on our laptops because it was raining? Maybe not the same type of glamping 🙂
I would love to go horseback riding. I took a few lessons as a kid and would love to do it again.
Thanks again for sharing!! That place looks so fun!
Taralynn McNitt says
Haha sounds like glamping to me 😆
💜

This looks like it was amazing!. I haven’t been glamping before, just regular camping. But that may be the way to get my husband to go. Haha. I would LOVE to be around all those animals all day too! Who doesn’t want to spend the day with baby goats?! Also, I’ve tried line dancing before. It’s not my forte, but it’s fun!

Tara R. says
The skeet shooting sounds challenging and super fun so I’d give that a go! This post makes me itch to look for glamping near me!
Also with your mention of being lucky if you get to see a Bald Eagle reminded how many people rarely get to see them in their lifetime. There are hundreds of thousands where I live in Minnesota on the Mississippi River so I get to see them often. Thanks for the humble reminder – they are amazing and beautiful creatures 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Definitely fun!!!
Totally understand! We had them everywhere in Iowa! but so rare in the south! The cool thing is that there is a bald eagle nest near our new house and the land is protected!
Victoria says
I love going glamping! I’m over setting up a tent and sleeping on the ground.
Taralynn McNitt says
And without the AC! 😆
Alissa says

So glad you got to experience West Gate River Ranch! I live about 45 minutes from it and one of my good friends used to participate in the rodeo every Saturday before an injury he got earlier this year.
I haven’t done the glamping yet and spent the night but it’s definitely on my list – I keep telling my fiance we need to plan an overnight trip! And you are right the saloon is so fun after the rodeo we always go there after for a drink and to watch the dancers!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is awesome you live so close!
Olivia says
We have an RV and go all the time, LOVE glamping/camping. We live about an hour from Westgate River Ranch and have gone a few times and have stayed in the glamping tents and also camped in our own RV. Everything you mentioned is SO FUN! I’m so happy you got to experience it all! We are planning to go back in December and this made me remember all the fun things there is to do and I’m that much more excited now!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is so awesome to hear!! Love that you’re already a fan of going there!
Liz says

Taralynn McNitt says
The quiet mornings with the animals were my favorite!

Thank you for the kind words and stopping by to read!

What an awesome trip! I’ve never been glamping but if I were there I would love to see the rodeo and visit the shops. All the food looks amazing! I’ve never line danced really, but my grandparents were in a competitive square dancing league, matching outfits and all! When I was little I thought it was boring, but now I love any type of dance that celebrates a group of people or culture or just for the purpose of having fun.
Taralynn McNitt says
Definitely cool how our interests in things change as we get older and get a better understanding of things 😊
Shelby R Tate says
1. I have never been glamping, but I’ve been camping a handful of times and I wouldn’t mind a little upgrade!!
2. The swamp buggy looks so fun! It reminds me of the safari ride at Animal Kingdom, especially when you suggested doing it in the morning!
3. Let’s just say I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of my cowboy boots!
Taralynn McNitt says
The upgrade was nice 😆
Ohhh it was kind of like animal kingdom, a bit bumpier! lol

3. Haha. No!
Taralynn McNitt says
omg the airboat was a blast!
Hannah R says
I have never been glamming, but I already love camping so this looks awesome!
Picking just one activity seems impossible… but I would ABSOLUTELY spend time with the horses 😍
I am a pro at looking like the worst dancer who tries her hardest and only *sort of* still stinks after practicing. 🤷🏻♀️ But hey, oh well. Haha
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahahaha I’m pretty good at that too!
Yvonne says
I LOVE camping! Nature is breathtaking and relaxing while being adventurous. I have never been glamping , sadly. But I sooo want to😍🌲🐎. You had me at horses 😏
Taralynn McNitt says
They had me at horses, too! 😂
Kara Smith says
I’ve never been glamping, but have always wanted to try. I love being outdoorsy and hiking, etc. But there is nothing like doing all those things and being able to clean up and be in the A/C to stay fresh (if it’s too hot). So I thought clamping is perfect for me. Saved the place to put on my list!
Taralynn McNitt says
You’re so right about that. Escaping into the AC was a MUST!!
Kara Smith says
No, I haven’t gone yet, but I’m saving it to my list now. Love all of those activities you did!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Kara!
Vanessa says
Wow, this looks like a dream weekend!
Have you ever been glamping?
No, but I’d love to try. I really enjoy camping, but sometimes a little more comfort would be nice.
What is one activity you’d love to try at Westgate River Ranch?
I’ve never been horseback riding, so I’d like to give that a try.
Are you line dancing pro!?
Not a pro, but enthusiastic. I love dancing!
Taralynn McNitt says
OMG you’ve never been horseback riding! I hope you go soon!
Kim says
This trip looks stunning! I love your travel posts!
Have you ever been glamping? Yes! I went last summer. We stayed at a place straight of Magnolia – with cute cabins, comfy beds, all the coffee, and the best part… front porch in front of a pond with adorable ducks walking around.
What is one activity you’d love to try at Westgate River Ranch? I think skeet shooting and archery. All of it looks fun.
Are you line dancing pro!? Haha I’ve tried this a few times. I’m no pro, but it’s hilarious to watch me try!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Kim!
I’ll have to look into the spot you glamped at!
HAHAHA you and me both, girl!
Katie says
Oh my goodness that place looks amazing!! The teepees are a little pricey, but with all that’s included it seems like I might have to make it happen!! Never been glamping but it seems right up my alley. I’d love to try all the archery/shooting activities. Never line danced in my life so that would be fun too!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Katie! With all the activities included it’s a pretty good deal 😊 And you can fit a lot of people in one. The teepee next us had seven girls form a bachelorette party 😃
It was such a fun place!
Kaitlyn says
I’ve never been glamping before, but it is for sure on my bucket list. Your trip looked like such a good combination of fun & rest. 😊🙌🏼
Taralynn McNitt says
Definitely both!
Brittany says
Oh my gosh what a fun trip!! It’s absolutely wild to me that all of this was in Florida! As always, I loved all of your pics <3 Hope you're having a blast in Hawaii now 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I know!! Florida has so many hidden gems!
Courtney Moore says
This looks like SO much fun! I am adding this to my bucket list for sure,
I like to consider myself a line dancing pro because all throughout high school and college my friends and I went EVERY weekend to a place called D.C.’s Country Junction to line dance for hours. When one of my friends had her bachelorette party in Nashville this summer, we used the line dances we learned years ago to dance to the live band playing. It was awesome because we got everybody in Wildhorse Saloon to join in with us for every dance!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is so awesome!!!
Milena Wojcieszek says
Hi Taralynn!
I think this is one of the coolest posts from this year, of course right after your engagement and house-building 🙂
I would love to try glamcamping one day!. You know, I am preparing a weekend trip for my boyfriend’s birthday and I decided to take him to the woods! I made a reservation at a very unique place where we will be sleeping in tree houses a few meters above the ground. I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun! 🙂
The activity I’d love to try at Westgate River Ranch… stargazing because the sky looks amazing! But also archery and horse riding, I’ve always wanted to learn this last one.
PS. Your post reminds me the last team building activity we did with my work colleagues which was.. throwing axes. I didn’t even know about such a place in Barcelona before and it turned out to be a very funny and anti-stress activity!
Have a nice week and cheers from Barcelona! <3
Brandy H. says
This looks like my daughter’s dream vacation!!! She loves to be outside and has been riding for the last four-five years. The horseback riding would be a must for us!

Such an amazing place! My daughters are fascinated by anything related to native Americans and this kind of stay in a teepee (with all the added extras) in such a gorgeous picturesque place would have been a dream come true. And that food! Just wow! You have a talent of capturing little detail that holds such value and makes your blogs stand out from the rest. I love both your photography and your style of describing experiences and (as I probably said nearly a million times in comments) I’d love to see a recipe/lifestyle book filled with your photos and pups and your lovely smiles. Have a gorgeous holidays season! (now off to catch up on vlogmas!)
