I can’t believe it’s Friday already. I live for my adventurous weekends and spending time with my friends. I have so many fun plans for the next couple of days and I know it’s all going to fly by so fast. I just got done cleaning my place, working out, and now it’s time to sit down and blog about what I’ve been up to! If anything is up, it’s definitely the weather. It’s been SO hot here and it forces me to run early morning or at night. I think nighttime running may be my new forte. I wanted to get in a longer run this morning because I am going to see Dead & Company at the PNC Music Pavilion tonight. EEK! I am so excited. Today I ran five light miles at a 9:20 pace and then walked one. Kyle wants to run after the concert tonight (we will see how that plays out) so I may go another two later on!
I made a refreshing protein shake after my run. It had one scoop of vanilla protein powder (20 grams of protein), 1 pineapple core (I alway freeze the cores after cutting pineapples), 1 frozen banana, ice, 5 large frozen strawberries, packet of stevia and 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
It’s been over a week since I’ve done a full recap post. My Savannah trip kind of took over, but I had so much fun writing it! This post will be full of food photos, coffee and a handful of random shots! To be honest, I really didn’t do anything interesting other than eat food and workout. I wanted to get out and enjoy the sun as much as I could once I got back to Charlotte. On Tuesday morning, I set out for a 30 mile bike ride.
I made breakfast after the ride to fuel back up and to help me focus on work. I made a vegetable scramble with a side of toast and fresh fruit.
I caught up on all emails and worked all Tuesday afternoon. Becca and I decided to meet up for dinner that night because I hadn’t seen her all weekend. I was having some serious best friend withdrawals. *GOOD NEWS…the little kitty I named “Taz” was adopted and now has a loving family.

We went to one of my favorite spots in Charlotte. If you live in the area and haven’t had the Cantina 1511, you need to! Its located in the Park Road plaza.
I finished all my work early Wednesday and set out for a really long walk. I couldn’t get over the beautiful weather!
Later in the evening, I made a spinach salad with goat cheese, a black bean veggie burger, and broccoli with red potatoes. So green, filling and delicious!
I ended up driving out to my parent’s house early the next morning to make breakfast for my dad. I hadn’t seen him in a while and I love spending time with him. I made my banana-egg pancakes with protein powder and blueberries!
These pancakes are my favorite and totally kill the pancake cravings. I love adding blueberries. All of these pancakes are under 300 calories and have over 25 grams of protein! I like to have mine with a side of Greek yogurt or bacon.
After breakfast I lathered on the sunscreen and spent a half hour doing weights. If you are ever confused or do not know where to start, try looking up some videos on YouTube or Grokker. There are so many great videos for beginners. I never really know what to do until I watch someone else.
I had frozen Greek yogurt, dried fruit and granola for lunch. I go through yogurt phases. Lately I’ve been keeping them in the freezer.
We were afternoon divas.
I met up with Becca for a night walk in Baxter Village later that night. After going three miles, we stopped to have dinner at Hakana. I ordered their house salad with ginger dressing on the side.
I also ordered their chicken lettuce wraps and asked them not to put any sauce on them. I really don’t like all the soy sauce they add and it tastes good on it’s own!
That night I framed up some of my favorite shots from my Savannah trip. I found rustic dark blue frames at Michaels!
I had a quick snack before heading to the Riverwalk on Friday afternoon. I had peaches from the Fort Mill peach stand, dried cherries, white sticky rice and sunflower seeds. Peaches and white sticky rice are one of my favorite combos! It sounds weird, but it works.
I took Grumples one mile before I took off. I hate leaving him, but it’s too hot for him run with me.
I love that the Riverwalk is shaded because it makes running easier.
I finished up eight miles and was so proud that I finished!
Kyle and I had dinner at my parents house on Friday night. My mom made one of my favorite dinners! We started with a shrimp cocktail thanks to my dad! She also made roasted veggies.
Her salmon is my favorite. She cooks and flavors it perfectly! She adds soy sauce, lime juice, black pepper, brown sugar and garlic powder.
Just talking about this meal makes me want it again!
Last Friday was National Donut Day and so my dad bought donuts for dessert. I thought that was so cute of him!
I love spending Saturday mornings replying to emails and comments. I wake up really early and spend that time cuddling up with Grumples with a cup of coffee.
When I walked out and saw this, my heart was about to explode. This makes me so happy.
After catching up on a few House of Card episodes, I made breakfast! I made a veggie scramble, bacon, toast and fruit!
I got ready for the day so I could hang out with Becca and Grumples got to spend the day with Kyle!
We went to Crossroads Coffee House in Waxhaw and walked around some antique stores!
You can read all about our day here!
We never can get enough coffee. We headed uptown to get Not Just Coffee later that afternoon and then spent the rest of the day at the pool.
After getting cleaned up, I headed uptown to hangout with Grumples and Kyle.
We decided to try out the new little cafe that opened down the street. It’s called the Poplar Cafe and it’s the cutest little spot! It’s a wine bar with delicious little eats. Kyle serenaded us with the piano. I’m not sure if there is anything he can’t do.
After dinner, we took Grumples for a little night walk. They always jump up on the fountain. I love watching them!
I woke up at six am on Sunday to go have breakfast with Becca at Amelies French Bakery in uptown. We also went for a stroll around uptown before breakfast.
I had the usual yogurt parfait and a dark roast coffee!
For lunch I went to the 7TH Street Public market and had a salad. My salad had feta, mixed greens, candied pecans, cranberries, croutons, grilled chicken and a side of balsamic vinaigrette.
We had kabobs on Sunday and watched the basketball game to end the weekend! Grumples doesn’t like many people and is very selective, but it looks like he admires Kyle as much as I do.
It was time to run on Monday morning! I just got these new cute running leggings from Prismsport and I am so obsessed. I also have the matching sports bra that looks awesome with cutout shirts. I will run in shorts if I have to, but I hate it. I always have to pull them down and it becomes a pain. I don’t care how hot it is, running in capris is so much better. I went 8.5 miles at a 9:45 pace. It was super hilly and really hot! I was more concerned about finishing my miles and not too worried about my time. That’ll increase overtime.
I had a really random post workout snack. It had dried pineapple, Larabar pieces, blueberries and frozen cherry Greek yogurt.
I think he was impersonating my post-run routine.
I made a quick random meal with leftovers before the Bachelorette came on. I had a Caesar salad with bacon pieces, a vegan Boca burger, leftover chicken lettuce wraps and harvest snaps. The Bachelorette is AWFUL this season. Hello, Chad show!
Before it got too hot on Tuesday, I took Grumples out for a park walk. He always pulls me to the playground so he can go up the steps. He loves it.
I fit my run in after our walk. I just did a quick three miles at a 8:45 min pace.
I had frozen yogurt topped with cereal, sunflower seeds and raisins after my run!
Later that night, I met up with Becca at Freedom park to walk six miles.
I had a good talk with the fisherman down below…
Freedom park is one of my favorite places to walk. *Fun fact* It’s actually where Kyle and I met.
I made a salad for dinner that night. I crave Olive Garden salads, so I always try to make at-home versions and they taste just as good! You can actually buy their dressing at most grocery stores. The salad had romaine, red onion, roma tomatoes, parmesan and croutons.
Someone else had their eyes on my salad as well.
I was so excited that my mug came! When I had coffee in Savannah, I fell in love with the same mug. I ended up ordering it off the internet before we even left the coffee shop.
I made scrambled eggs and peaches for breakfast while I packed up orders for the shop!
After working, I headed to the mall to shop around a bit. I love mall walking! I had a strawberry banana protein shake to-go!
I headed to Kyles later Wednesday night so we could go for a night run. He’s going to get me more involved in the gym and I’m going to get him more involved with running. I think we make a pretty good team!
Running at night was so much better. There was no heat pounding me and I was fully fueled with calories. I even slept like a baby that night! Our first mile was 8:25 and the second was 9:00. He did amazing for being a beginner!
GRUMPLES!!!
My Thursday morning breakfast consisted of eggs and oatmeal!
Later that afternoon I had a tall quad skinny iced latte. It was the perfect pick-me-up while running errands.
I made baked chicken with a pineapple/low sodium soy sauce glaze and a GIANT salad for dinner. It was the same as my copycat Olive Garden salad from above. The reason I have so many croutons on my plate is because Grumples loves them too…….
It finally cooled down after dinner, so Grumples and I went for a two mile walk down the back neighborhoods.
The week has been so relaxing and calm. <3 Not every week is as smooth, but I’m always happy when they are! I have some fun blog posts, recipes and giveaways lined up for next week! I can’t wait to share everything with you!
- What is something you’re looking forward to this weekend?
- Do you enjoy working out in the morning or in the evening?
- What is one question you’d like to ask me?
1) Being with my boyfriend *o* <3 sleeping with him Saturday night and spending all Sunday walking and seeing thins around the city 🙂
2) I cannot work out in the evening, I hate it SO MUCH. My favorite moment is in the morning around 10 am. In the evening I'm always too tired to work out, which sucks if you have a 8am – 5pm job 🙁
3) There are so many things I'd like to ask you… But right now I'll just ask something that I was wondering while I read your post: do you go running everyday? 🙂 I really admire you! You always sound so full of life.
Have a great weekend xxxx
That sounds like a great weekend 🙂 Love exploring.
10AM is the best time!!!
I do not go running everyday! I like to mix running up with different workouts. I do walk everyday! I like to run 4-5 times a week. Long and short. I like to do strength training, walking, biking and fun random youtube workouts!
Thank you for the kind words!! I hope you had a GREAT weekend!
xo xo xo
Ah I am so jealous that you are seeing Dead & Company! They come to Pittsburgh July 13th which is a Wednesday so I’m still not sure if I’m going to make it because of work 🙁 I hope you share how the show is!
This weekend I am looking forward to relaxing and actually getting some work done on my blog. I was hoping to go camping but it looks like the weather is going to be pretty crappy.
I prefer to workout in the morning when I’ve had a chance to wake up and some proper food. But, since that’s not possible for me during the week, right after work is usually when I work out.
No questions 🙂 Just super jealous you’re seeing Dead & Company and I had to comment just because of that lol
The concert was definitely something else! I may still be high from breathing in all the weed lol. I’ll definitely share it!
I love spending weekends working on the blog! Coffee & Blogging is the best.
I bet working out in the evening is a nice relax/wind down!
xo xo
1. I’m treating myself to a massage tonight before a busy weekend and I seriously can’t wait – I’m so sore from workouts lately and I rarely ever pamper myself!
2. Almost always evening as I’m not a morning person. But if it’s a weekend and I have nowhere to be, I love morning workouts. Otherwise, I feel too rushed to squeeze them in in the morning.
3. Hmm..this is tough! What songs have been on your workout playlists lately?
A massage sounds amazing!!! I might have to go do that. It’s smart to pamper yourself.
That is very understandable. I simply live for the weekends because I get to workout with friends.
My workout playlist…CURRENTLY. I’m copy and pasting it for you 🙂

You’re welcome! It’s such a random list!!
1. I’m headed to a concert with some friends tomorrow night & if the weather holds out, doing a 10-12ish mile hike with the BF that’s been on our bucket list since we met! 🙂
2. I hate getting up in the mornings, but I love having my workout done for the day, I will always pick a morning workout. I can be persuaded in the evenings, but, if I don’t have a partner motivating me, I would much rather be eating dinner.
3. (Pardon me if any of these are intrusive)
How’s school going, or has that fallen by the wayside? I haven’t seen it mentioned recently. I hope if it’s something you’re interested in that you find a way to make it work.
Is it weird being Internet famous? Like, do you just get randomly approached when you’re out?
Can we go on a coffee crawl together? Like a bar crawl but, with all the fun coffee shops you always find!?
You have to do a post introducing us to your new man! He is such a cutie-pie!
I think he’s a cutie pie too!

Do you read any blogs regularly?

Hey Jessie!!!!
I also went to a concert this weekend! It was one heck of an experience. I want to hear all about your hike! I think you may have just inspired me to go for a hike now.
I feel ya on that one. I usually stick to the afternoon workouts unless it’s running! I love ending the evening with a walk and lately a run!
I am taking the summer to myself! I had been doing part time classes online and it was pretty easy. I will start again in the fall 🙂
Haha I do get approached when I’m out. It’s not weird at all and I love meeting people!
I don’t read many blogs regularly, but I do follow tons of instagram accounts from other bloggers and sometimes I’ll click their link if something looks tasty or their outfit is on point! I’m also big into pinterest still.
YES YES! LETS DO THAT.
I’m super curious now about pineapple cores in smoothies! Does that taste good? Is it nutritious? Never heard of it before!
It tastes so good! I don’t like to waste the core after cutting up a pineapple so I throw it in! It holds a lot of nutrition as well.
Hi Taralynn
Long time reader, occasional commenter. I admire you and love your blog post so much, don’t stop, please!
This weekend I am looking forward to hanging out with friends and cleaning. Well, I’m not that excited about cleaning.
I like working out in the evenings more. If I didn’t work full-time, I would totally be a later morning, early afternoon person. Having a desk job really bites because I wish I could be working during the day.
The question I wanted to ask you is how you met that hottie, Kyle? You told us, so you must have been reading my mind.
I just love the friendship you have with Becca, she is pretty and I just love her style.
Mr. Grumples kills me! He is one of the cutest dogs I have seen. I love the pictures of him laying on his back all sprawled out.
Lastly, I love that you and Kyle compliment each other so well. You are both into fitness…. plus….Mr. Grumples likes him. That right there says it all! He’s a keeper!
Have a great weekend!
Sarah
Thank you Sarah! That means so much to me.
I hope you had a great weekend with your friends and cleaning. I sometimes like to blast music and go at it! I am going to do that today with my laundry.
I bet workout in the evening is a great way to relax you at the end of the day!
We actually met at Freedom Park and bonded over running. It all started with a running shoe question. I will definitely mention it in a post for sure!
Becca and I have a great friendship and I couldn’t be any more luckier. She really is the BEST FRIEND anyone could as for. I am kind of a fan girl of her style and uniqueness.
Grumples is sitting on the couch to me doing that same pose currently. He is a silly man!
Mr. Grumples LOVES Kyle and I was lucky to find someone who is so similar to me. I’ve never been happier or more content with my life. I think he’s definitely a keeper.
I hope you had the best weekend ever!!
xo
1. I am looking forward to tubing down the river this weekend! I used to go a lot in my late teens/early 20’s, and haven’t since then. So I am BEYOND excited to spend the day with a friend, having drinks, and lazily drifting down the river.
2. When I actually get my butt to the gym, I prefer mornings. If I don’t do it in the morning, by the time I’m done with work at 5, I just can’t bring myself to go.
3. The question I want to ask you is: where do you get your motivation? You have been so inspiring to me for years now. You eat well and are always active. I’m having a lot of issues with both of those things, and it’s really getting me down. I’m hoping you can share some tips on what keeps you going :)P.S. You look so happy and that is so nice to see!
I want to do that. I did it once in Montana (clear water) and it was so much fun. I get scared with not being able to see what is below me. Make sure you wear TONS AND TONS of sunscreen and gets some water in with those drinks. HAVE A BLAST!
Yeah, that is very understandable!
I get a lot of motivation from the people around me, my readers, and I truly want to reach my goals. Nothing makes me happier than doing something I have never done before or reaching a new goal. Everyday my readers hold me accountable and really push me to do more. They also share their inspirational stories and that motivates me to be better. You have to do what is going to make you happy! & that is what I strive to do every single day! xo
1. Laying out by the pool
2. Always morning. If I don’t work out first thing I won’t do it.
3. What do your parents think of your new guy?
YES! it’s going to be way too hot for that here.
I think a lot of people are like that. It’s smart to get it done in that case.
They love him.
Love the picture of Kyle and Grumples. I’m so glad you found a guy who shares your fitness lifestyle. 🙂
1. I live in Seattle and it’s going to rain alllll weekend, so right now my bbqand hike plans have changed to reading books and cuddling with my dog. Which is fine with me!
2. I’m a night work out person. I think its one of the best ways to reflect on my day and wind down before relaxing for the night. I feel like I rush through AM work outs, whereas with night work outs I’m able to take my time and do as much as I’d like.
3. Well.. now that you said you and Kyle met at Freedom Park, I’m dying to know the official “how you met” story of course 🙂 So that’s my question for you.
I am very lucky! 🙂 He’s incredible and Grumples just loves him.
Your weekend of cuddling and reading sounds amazing. It’s 100 degrees today so I’ll be trying to stay indoors until the nighttime!
I would rush AM workouts if I had to do it in the morning as well. It’s kind of YOU time then.
I will be sharing that story sometime! :):)
All of these salads look super good! Now I think I’ll have a salad for dinner 🙂
Kyle seems awesome, I’m so happy for you and Grumples! It’s always the best when your animals (aka fur babies) bond with your significant other.
http://www.justbeingbrooklyn.com
Thanks B!
I’m a salad machine, but that is nothing new.
Kyle really is the greatest and I’m so lucky! xo xo
This weekend I plan on working on refinishing my coffee table I mentioned a couple recap posts ago! And also going over to a friends house and hanging out with friends Saturday night. We found this new Peach Moscato that is delicious!
I usually prefer the mornings for workouts. I run my best when I haven’t eat yet for the day. Another part of it is that it sets me in a “healthy” mood for the day if that makes sense.. I make better choices! I have to experiment to see what doesn’t bother me when I run in the afternoons.
What is your favorite thing about Kyle?
Yes and I can’t see it! Peach Moscato sounds amazing!
It’s so crazy how all bodies work differently. I HAVE to have some kind of food in me and I run better when I’m fueled up and digested. I definitely know how that is. I get that way too! I also force myself to eat healthy all day if I know I’m working out at night or it’ll be abad workout!
My favorite thing about Kyle…I love how genuine and smart he is. I really could go on all day about him. He is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet
Love your blog 🙂 always makes me so happy to see a new post up! I was wondering if you would consider writing a post about what it’s like to be a full time blogger. Where do you start? Any tips? I would love to start my own blog and make a career out of it, but have my apprehensions.
Thank you Savannah!
Being a full time blogger isn’t as glamorous as it sounds, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I think I could have billions of dollars in front of me and I’d still choose to blog because I love it so much. In order to make a career out of it, you’ll definitely have to start! I’d spend a year or two writing and building up tons of content and a readership. Once that is accomplished, you’ll be able to work with companies, promote things you love, and turn it into a career! 🙂
Do I spy Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal? 😉
Haha! It’s strawberry. BUT, I’m not against dino egg oatmeal!
1. My mom is visiting me tomorrow, so I’m excited to spend the whole day with her. We will likely go to the beach, my first beach visit this summer!
2. Nighttime workout, no question. I am miserable in the morning and can barely finish my workouts. No fun at all. I wish I could be a runner, but I just have never been able to, no matter how in shape I am or how much I work out :/.
3. Are you still in school? Also, what about the house you bought? Home tour? That was three questions haha but oh well. 🙂
That is so fun!!! I love spending time with mom. I’m so jealous you’re going to be at the beach. it’s 99 degrees today!!! I may just hit up the gym and find every excuse to stay indoors!
Awesome recap post!
1. I can’t wait for the Miranda Lambert Concert in Charlotte this weekend!!!
2. I have to work out in the mornings or it won’t get done… I tell myself I’ll do it later and then night comes and it doesn’t happen.
3. How do you ride the bike for 30 miles without your butt killing you? My bottom always hurts after about 4 miles; any tips would be wonderful 🙂
Have a great weekend!
Thank you Amy!
1. That is tomorrow!! 🙂 I bet it’s going to be so much fun.
2. I can see how that would be hard.
3. oh…MY BUTT KILLS ME!!! I need to invest in those butt padded shorts.
XO
I am looking forward to being done with my 2 weeks of craziness! Since before Memorial Day I’ve been on the road driving to somewhere for at least 14 days. Gross! My husband and I plan to chill at home and leave the house as little as possible!
I have to work out in the morning if possible. First thing, before I eat or do anything else! I find it much easier to motivate myself in the morning and get my work out out of the way! If I have to do it later in the day, I will but it’s better to do it right away. I also can’t eat or drink too much water before I work out otherwise I feel horrible during my work out! Haha. The conditions have to be just right 😉
I miss seeing all of your healthy treat/dessert recipes! Can we have more?
Have a fun weekend!
Yikes! That is a lot of driving. I just had one of those weekends where I spent most of the time around charlotte or at home. IT WAS AMAZING! You definitely deserve that time.
I wish I could be more like that. I need to have coffee, drink water, eat, digest and THEN I’m ready. It’s a process lol. Funny how we all work differently!
I try to include some healthy treats/dinner recipes in all my recap posts, but I’ll try to incorporate more separate ones for sure!
xo
Love love love all your posts, photos, recipes, and motivational/inspiration words! It always makes my day when I see you have a new post up!!! I am trying to get out and explore more, be a tourist in my own town, and you completely inspire me to do so! Thank youuu, also, you’re fabulous. 🙂
Thank you so much Caitlin!!
Just reading that makes my day. Being a tourist in your own town is the best!! You’re pretty fabulous yourself!! xo
1. Not having to study for finals!!!!! 😀
2. I love working out (running) during the evening. The night adds a romantic feel and I get a better run in that way.
3. How are you with school? Are you still taking classes/out for the summer?
Yay!!! Summertime 😀
I’m so with you on that one!
I’m done and taking the summer to myself!
1.) My boyfriend and I are going house hunting this weekend, yay!
2.) Definitely morning…I find it sets the tone for the whole day, and i eat healthier. Plusss there’s no time for me to talk myself out of it haha.
3.) How did you and Becca meet/become friends?
That is so exciting! Have fun 🙂
You’re right! I think it goes both ways with that too. If I know I have to workout at night, I don’t eat anything bad because I know it’ll be a HORRIBLE workout.
Becca worked with one of my friends and she ended up coming to a Trivia night and we hit it off like crazy!
I always love reading your blog. Even when it’s a smooth week as you call it. I’m probably one of your few “more mature” readers (I’m 46), but you are so genuine & down-to-earth that it’s easy to connect with you and your blog. I admire your story (being overweight & then having an eating disorder and overcoming both). Your dedication to a happy healthy lifestyle is commendable. You are an inspiration to young adults everywhere and us older ones too. 🙂 Kyle seems like a great guy and like he makes you extremely happy. I’m happy to read that he’s just as dedicated to a happy healthy lifestyle as you are. Sounds like a match made in heaven…or something like that. 😉 I wish you both the best.
Thank you Selina! I really appreciate the kind words and I love hearing that I’m easy to relate to because I really am just like every other person! Thank you for making my day. Kyle makes me so happy that it hurts! He really pushes me to be the best version of myself and I feel so lucky. xo xo
Hey Tara!!
Love this recap–you’re really loving life and I love reading about it!!
1. I’m looking forward to going to Six Flags with my family!!
2. I really like working out in the evening. In fact, I used to wait until 11:00pm when I was in college before I would show up to the gym and run! Something about always knowing there’s a treadmill open really led me to do nighttime workouts. Now I do them around 7:00.
3. Kinda weird–but what kind of lettuce do you use and how do you keep it fresh? Your salads always look DELISH!
Hi Cyndi!!
Thank you thank you!! 🙂
1. Six flags is going to be so much fun! Don’t forget the sunscreen:)
2. That is one late workout, but I love it! It’s your time. I like to run when the sun goes down now.
3. I bag it up and make sure I eat it within two days. I’m usually good about eating up all my salad! I sometimes buy it the night of too.
Thank goodness for smooth weeks!!! Looks like Grumples has a new bff!
Thank goodness for sure!! & YES HE DOES! Makes me so happy.
1) I’m currently in Alabama for my boyfriend’s brother’s wedding, which is tomorrow. So that’s what I’m most looking forward to this weekend.
2) I live in Rock Hill and I love going to the riverwalk, definitely my favorite place to exercise in the area. I’m pretty sure I saw you there last Friday! I like working out in the morning best, but I really enjoy evening walks also.
3) I have trouble getting motivated some mornings to work out. What is something you do to help get yourself motivated on those days that you just don’t feel like getting out of bed?
That sounds like so much fun. I’ve always wanted to go to Alabama!
Riverwalk is the best! That may have been me:) I like walking there at sunset with my friend! It’s so much cooler and the water is always gorgeous with the sun going down over it.
I think I have the issue of not being able to stay in bed. I sometimes have to force myself to sleep in, but on the days when I’m not motivated to workout, I choose to do a lighter workout. I never force myself to do things i’m not up for like running or going to the gym. I do make sure that I do something. Usually I’ll head to the river walk to walk or a path in charlotte to walk. Walking is a workout that I never turn down! It clears your mind and sometimes motivates you to do more.
You look so so happy! I’m excited for you! 🙂 I love your recap posts. This one made my commute home from work so much better!
1. I actually work weekends, so I’ll be in my office all day. BUT, when I’m not in the office… is it weird that I’m looking forward to packing? I just signed a new lease and it’s my first place without roommates – I cannot WAIT! (Plus, the whole act of cleaning stuff out and getting rid of things is so therapeutic.)
2. I actually enjoy working out during the day! I have a lot of trouble getting up early in the morning to hit the gym, but when I work out at night, the endorphins hit me like crazy and I find myself cleaning my apartment at 3AM because I’m so wired. I actually took on working the nights and weekends shifts at my job so that I’d have my late mornings to hit the gym! 🙂
3. Can I ask two?! 🙂 a. What is your favorite advice to give someone who is looking into starting their own blog? and b. Are you going to be restocking the Whatcha Drinkin’? and Happy Tie Dye tops (in size L) in your store? 🙂
Thank you Melissa. I am very happy 😀 So happy I could entertain you on your commute home!
NO. I LOVE packing too!! It’s so fun to go through things and get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore.
I feel ya girl! Im not getting up for a workout unless I have to or promised someone.
1. I actually wrote a post about starting a blog and things to consider!
http://simplytaralynn.com/2015/01/24/five-things-to-consider-before-starting-a-blog/
I don’t think I’ll be restocking those soon, but maybe in the future! I have a new shipment coming in soon though 😀
I’m so glad for you guys, you two look so happy together and Grumples is cuter than ever! I’m drooling over those salads and frozen greek yohurts! It really looks like you hd a great and relaxing time 🙂
1.) I’m really looking forward to relax this weekend and do some blogging.
2.) Morning workouts would be better if I was a morning person.
3.) How do you manage your time with friends, family, boyfriend, blog and relaxing?
– Love, Anna
Thank you Anna! That means so much 🙂
I love a good weekend of blogging and relaxing. It’s what I do best!
TRUE! I’m a morning person, but only when I get to sit on my couch and drink coffee.
I LOVE to balance. I make sure to work on my blog, collection and all the other work from 6am-6pm. I also make sure to workout sometime during that! I’m also very lucky to have friends that support what I do and they help me take photos, cook recipes, etc. That gives me a nice balance! I also have to close off from the blog a lot to keep it all separated. Other than that, I really just go with the flow when it comes to hanging out with people!
I have no idea why but I can’t see your photos on instagram! Have been following you and your blog for a couple of years
That is so strange! What is your instagram name??
It’s travellingtohappiness 🙂
Thank you! I’m not sure why you can’t see my posts. I left a comment on one of yours. Maybe you have the wronger username for me?
I’m looking forward to running and just relaxing this weekend 🙂 I love working out in the late afternoon/early evening! I’d love to hear the full story on how you and Kyle met (unless I missed it somehow!) I’m single right now and always love to hear how people meet…it gives me hope haha
I am going to do the same for the rest of the weekend! That is exactly when I like working out.
I might be able to make a post about that sometime soon 🙂 Just happened by chance!
xo
I totally agree with you about the Bachelorette!! I think it was during the second episode that I kept thinking “Oh my goodness, enough Chad!!” It’s ridiculous! Spoiler alert: I was hoping now that he’s gone we can move on, but he’s still in the preview for the next episode!
He’s seriously ruining the show. The dates have are so cheesy and all of the scenes are just AWKWARD! I think they need to give the show a makeover!
One of Saturday morning things is taking my dog for a walk and then coming home to have coffee and read your recap posts! I love all your food and dog pictures, I swear that is what 95% of my camera roll on my phone is ha! They always say dogs are a good judge of character, so it sounds like Grumples knows you’ve found a good one ha!
This weekend is jam packed full of fun! Last night we went to a friends wedding, today we are driving to Maine to go hiking, and Sunday is my birthday! So much to look forward to for me!
I’ve always been a morning person, so I usually get my workouts in first thing. Then I’m done for the day and don’t have to plan for it later in the day. Although I’ve started adding a late long afternoon walk to my days which I LOVE!
My question for you is… Have you ever considered putting together a Charlotte Weekend guide? Or even just a list of ‘not to miss’ places for someone visiting? I really want to visit and never know where to go when I visit a new town! A few weeks ago my friend and I drove to Ogunquit Maine (its only an hour from me), and used your blog as an inspiration for where to go and what to do and had the BEST time!
There is something special about having coffee on Saturday mornings! That makes me so happy to hear that you read my blog on Saturdays! 🙂 You and I have the exact same camera roll. I’m constantly having to delete photos because Grumples takes over my storage. I think you’re 100% right about that last comment.
I’m so jealous you’re going to Maine! I love it there. I was just looking back at Maine photos yesterday. I hope you have a great day of hiking and a WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY!!!!!
I wish I could be more like you. I do not like waking up to workout. I like waking up to drink coffee and watch the news! I bet if I got up to workout more often, then it would become a routine.
That is actually a great idea for a post! I am going to work on that.
xo & have a wonderful birthday!!!!!
What is something you’re looking forward to this weekend?
Im going to participate in cafe day- thats a daay when everyone can have a cafe at theire house and people come and try out diff foods:)
Do you enjoy working out in the morning or in the evening?
I would like to do it in the morning, cause I am too exhausted by 6 PM:D
What is one question you’d like to ask me?
Who do you like to become the next president in USA?
Hi from Estonia! Your posts almost always make me relax 😀 Really weird! But I guess, your life is so diff thats why reading about it takes my immagination to a walk and makes me calmer. I am a mom of two girls (1.5 y and 5 y), me and my hubby also have full time jobs, so those two consume most of our time every week:) Not much left for time together with hubby alone and for just me. I used to run 3x every week at 5.30 AM, before work. Now with 2 kids I am exchausted and run only when I feel I want to run away from my responsibilities:) haha:D One day I ran with total rain, listened to music and almost danced on the way! It was magical..the sunset was also gorgeous. Luckaly I am able to eat healthily and to be active enough to be happy in my body. I really like your dog. I used to be a “dog person”, but now I have a cat, and sometimes a squirrel, who climbs up my balcony:)
Wishing you all the best! Lots of love, hapiness and hugs!
Cris
Ok…that sounds super super fun! I definitely want to take part in that! I’ve never heard of anything like that before.
It’s good that you plan to do it in the morning knowing that you’ll be too exhausted! Smart planning.
President? I actually do not like any of the candidates. I think we are doomed for a while. If I could choose anyone to be president, it would be Leonardo DiCaprio.
I love hearing that my posts give you a sense of relaxation. That makes me so happy 🙂 it keeps me motivated to write even when my life is boring as ever.
You just described the perfect run! That does sound magical. I bet you get tons of exercise running around with your little ones to make up for the lack of running. You’re probably even more active now!
I love cats too! If Grumples liked them, I’d have one or two!
I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for the kind words!
XO XO
Taralynn
HI TARALYNN!!
1. I graduate from grad school tomorrow so this has been a very big weekend for me thus far!! I am so anxious for Sunday to get here!!
2. I prefer afternoon workouts. I’ll do morning workouts if I have to but in the afternoon I feel that I have so much more energy and my workouts always end up more intense and meaningful. Maybe it’s all in my head but I feel like after having some calories in me from a good breakfast and lunch I’m always ready to put that fuel to good use.
3. I was intrigued by the picture of the park where you said Kyle and you met…..how did that come about? I am a sappy romantic single girl so I always love hearing about how couples met….gives me hope 🙂
Hi Jen!!
Congrats to you! You should feel so proud.
I definitely agree about having more energy in the afternoon! I also like to be fueled up from breakfast and lunch as well.
I will definitely do a post on the story sometime soon. 🙂
What is something you’re looking forward to this weekend?
The best part of the weekend already was today – I visited a friend in her hometown right by the sea. It was so pretty there, it almost felt like a vacation. Also, after being knocked out with an infection in my ankle for two weeks, I finally was able to walk a bit without pain again!
Do you enjoy working out in the morning or in the evening?
I prefer late morning workouts, after I had the time to eat a bit and let it settle. Then I feel super energized for the rest of the week.
What is one question you’d like to ask me?
What advise do you have against cravings? I so often just eat whatever comes my way and therefore gained 8 pounds since winter. However I find it hard to limit myself when it comes to food, it just all tastes so great…
Oh, that does sound amazing! I am craving the ocean. I’m so glad you had a great time with your friend and it sounds like you were very deserving of that! Glad your ankle is feeling better.
That does sound good. Every time I workout late, I sleep so much better.
Cravings are a tough one. You can’t deprive yourself from the things you love, otherwise you’ll crave them more! When it comes to cravings, I make sure to treat myself in moderation. I also have been doing this new thing where I give myself and hour of willpower. For instance. I REALLY wanted a brownie this weekend with my dinner salad. I bought the brownie and waited one hour. By the time that hour was up, that craving was gone and the brownie didn’t seem appetizing anymore. That brownie is still in the fridge. Now, if I wanted tha brownie by the end of it, I would have eaten it! Sometimes you have to sit on it (not the brownie). But you really should treat yourself now and then to things you crave or make healthier versions of the things you crave! I never crave pizza because I always make zucchini pizzas and it does the trick. Just find healthier alternative, workout, and live a life of balance! You also should practice moderation with the heavy/sugary foods as well.
Hi Tara!
Well, the weekend is kind of over with now, but yesterday (saturday) I did a beginners yoga class and it was amazing! I can’t wait to try it again!
I think I enjoy working out in the morning. I find myself having more motivation. Not to be a mom, but just be careful running at night! There are a lot of weirdos out there! I don’t know what kind of area you live in, but sometimes places can be very different at night. Running with Kyle (or anyone) is a good idea.
My question is: when you first started your weight loss journey, did you find yourself struggling to change your diet? I LOVE sweets and junk food and I am trying really hard to give that up or at least drastically cut back. Any tips would be greatly appreciated 🙂
I want to hear all about it! I was just talking with a friend yesterday about trying hot yoga on Saturdays. I’m so nervous to do it, but I hear it is great!!
Thank you Kelly, I definitely DO NOT run at night alone! I’ll either run with Kyle, my dog, Becca or my mom. I’m right there with you thinking about the weirdos! Thanks for caring 🙂
I think if you’re really motivated, it’s easier. You have to really work on focusing on your willpower. I explained in a comment above yours about how I usually wait an hour before caving into my cravings. It usually works! I’ve also learned that treating yourself and eating in moderation is more successful than restricting yourself from your favorites! If you can practice the balance and willpower, you’ll be set! Also diet & exercise seem to make the balance more successful.
Those pictures with Kyle and Grumbles are so sweet! I’m a huge animal lover, so seeing a person treat pets with respect tells me a lot about them!
Looks like a fun week!
Yes! I couldn’t agree more with you!!
What a beautiful view of Riverwalk! It’s great to use walking as physical activity because it’s easily incorporated as a lifestyle habit rather than exercise. This was an amazing recap too–full of happy faces and super yummy food–those pancakes and the roasted veggies especially!
I definitely walk more than anything! I think it’s great for the body and mind. I also love exploring new places 🙂 Thank you for the kind words about my recap!!
I know I’ve already said this, but I love Freedom Park. I walk there 3-4 days a week with the baby I nanny and her dog. I’m still working up to a longer endurance, but we’ve been doing 2-3 miles most days.
I really want to work up to 5 miles being easy, but I have to ease into it.
It’s the best isn’t it!? Do you ever do the little sugar creek greenway?? You’ll be doing 5 miles before you know it!
OH! ALSO try 4 mile creek greenway! You’ll fall in love.
Quick side note…they make the light version of the Olive Garden dressing. I actually prefer it to the regular kind.
I tried the lighter one but wasn’t a fan! I’ll give it another try again:)
Such a fun recap- I love seeing you so happy. 🙂
1.What is something you’re looking forward to this weekend?
My weekend just ended 🙁 (I love reading your recaps on Monday’s) but one of my best friends flew into town!
2.Do you enjoy working out in the morning or in the evening?
I love working out in the mornings but since I try to get into work early, I tend to workout at night. I’ve been trying to wake up earlier to workout, though!
3.What is one question you’d like to ask me?
What do you personally feel is hardest part of being a full-time blogger?
Xo,
Melissa
http://www.GreenPalateLife.com
Hi Melissa!
I love hearing that you like to read my recaps! That makes me happy 🙂 I hope you have an awesome time with your best friend! Nothing better than that!
Waking up for a workout is so tough. Waking up for coffee? not so tough.
I think being a full-time blogger looks glamorous from the outside, but it’s a lot of work. Most people live their lives not thinking twice about documenting every little detail and taking photos. I’m surrounded by distractions and I have to focus on work during the day/night. The recap posts look simple and fun, but they also take well over 8-10 hours to write, edit, upload and post. Keeping up with emails and sponsorships to pay the bills can be overwhelming. The negativity that comes along with being a blogger can be pretty draining sometimes and nothing is ever private, even when you try to keep it that way. People are constantly watching you or commenting on your appearance and it can put a lot of pressure on you. I think fighting the negative comments and not letting it ruin my self esteem or hurt me can be hard but it’s also made me a stronger person. Organizing for taxes, you’re responsible for medical, your 401k, and all other types of expenses that most full-time jobs take care of. I don’t get to go into the office and leave work there, I have to work almost 24/7, even when it doesn’t seem like work. There is a lot behind the scenes. BUT, I would never trade it for the world. I love being able to have flexible hours, to talk and meet with new people from all over the world, and being able to share my thoughts and adventures with people. I really am blessed to be in this position.
Sounds like a great week! I prefer working out in the late morning after my breakfast is settled and ive had some water. Sadly I usually have to wait until I get home from work to work out because work schedule…bah humbug haha!
I guess I’m curious to know how long you blogged until you made an income off of it? Id love to blog full time but am not there yet…still new!
Late morning after breakfast is a perfect time! BUT I also like the evening. Hopefully you don’t have to work TOO late.
I blogged about a year before I learned that I could make an income off of it. I built up readership and content and then decided to study more into turning it into a career. At first, I was a nanny and blogging while going to school, so it was pretty overwhelming!
I’m late to the party but…
1. Kayaking. My bf got me a kayak for Christmas and I want to live in it.
2. I’m a morning person, but if I work out at night I sleep like a baby. I try to do cardio in the morning and yoga at night
3. All I could think of the whole post was “My God. I’ve wasted so many pineapple cores!” Pineapple is my favorite! Why didn’t I know this sooner?!- not really a question for you haha
Fashionably late and always welcomed!
1. OK, HE WINS THE BOYFRIEND AWARD! That sounds like so much fun! I really want to get a kayak because I live right by the river and I’m always watching the people kayak while I’m running. I just don’t think I’d use it enough!
Yes, I sleep like a baby after an evening workout too! It’s nice that you do two a days!
Hahahaha! The pineapple core is so good and nutritious! NEVER TO BE WASTED 😀
Hi there,
I absolutely love your blog posts Taralynn. I always read them but never comment so here I am 🙂
1) This weekend I have a three day weekend so I’m definitely looking forward to it! My cousin is coming to visit from four hours away with her son (he’s just over a year old). Last time I saw him he was about 8 months old and he wasn’t walking yet but now he is. I’m super excited because I don’t get to see them often. It looks like good weather finally too (I’m from Canada and it’s been raining for the last week or so) so this is a bonus.
2) I definitely prefer working out in the morning because it always feels nice to get up and go straight to the gym. I have more energy in the morning and I usually feel well rested. Sometimes if I wait until the evening I feel too lazy/tired.
3) My question for you is… Do you ever have days that you don’t feel like working out? If so, what motivates you to get up and get moving.
You are truly an inspiration! Sending so much love. xoxo
Hi Erica!
Thank you for taking the time to stop and comment. That really means a lot! I love hearing from my readers!
You’re going to have the greatest weekend. I always love when family come to town! Weeks of rain is NO FUN. We are about to get three days of rain starting today. Hopefully it’ll cool everything down here. It’s upper 90’s all week.
I wish I could have more energy in the morning. I only have the drive to work and drink coffee and have physical energy later in the evening.
I definitely have days where I don’t feel like working out and I think everyone feels like that most of the time. Once I pep talk myself to get out and go, it’s no problem. Sometimes the struggle is just getting off the couch and doing it. If it’s one of those days where I REALLY do not want to work out, I’ll make myself go on a long walk. It doesn’t feel like a workout, but it’s still something. I walk everyday and I feel off if I don’t. Sometimes my walks will even turn into a run. I have a lot of goals right now and I keep them circulating in my head to motivate me!
xo xo & thanks so much for commenting! I hope to hear from you soon.
Keep up all the positive and healthy posts! You make me want to get out and go for a run.
Thanks lindsey!!
Hi Taralynn,
I’m writing you today to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. I’ve actually discovered your pinterest page a few years ago about your weight loss journey. its such an inspiring story. but I haven’t read any of your blogs until just the recent months. Your blog is full of fun stories and has very useful information Whether its about a new place you discovered or a new recipe you would like to share. I feel your blog is extremely genuine and I’m always looking forward to reading it. I would just like to thank you for being true to yourself in the blogs you post and for inspiring me to always step out of my comfort zone. thank you!
Stacy
Stacy,
That just made my entire day. Thank you for the uplifting and positive comment! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to comment to me. My blog is just a big blob of my life and I love hearing all about my reader’s lives as well!
xo
Hi Taralynn,
One question:
When you go on your night runs, do you have a post-run snack? If so, what do you usually have?
I ask you this since it has been often mentioned that eating later at night is not recommended.
Btw, I love reading your blog! It totally boosts my mood and inspired me to be healthier. Thank you so much!
Best,
Ana
Hi Ana!
I usually eat light all day and then make a protein shake after a night run! Eating late at night isn’t bad at all, unless it ruins your sleep pattern.
Thank you for the kind words!!
xo
Hey Tara! This post ? I’m so happy for you!
I know I’m a little late here ? But I thought of a question! I live in Florida, will finish my Elementary Education degree in spring, and then I plan to move out of state. I’m pretty set on Charleston, SC! I know you have moved alot over the years, but this will be my first out of state move, and I’m going alone. I’m pretty sure you moved to Charlotte alone, right? Any advice or tips for me? I’m scared shitless ? Making friends, learning the areas, missing family, and being comfortable to explore alone are things that I’m most nervous about. I feel like you’re a pro in this area haha. Thanks! xo
No such thing as being late here 🙂
& THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Moving can really be a blessing and you will LOVE LOVE LOVE Charleston if that is where you end up. It’s a very young city with tons of new people. I think moving can be the best thing for you and it’ll help you grow and learn how to live completely alone and how to put yourself out there! You should definitely join some meet ups, make friends with the staff at your school, and I bet you’ll make friends before you know it! I meet new friends naturally every month now. It’s so good for you and I think you need to go into this confident and ready for a new journey and new start!!
You have NOTHING to lose! you got this!
Taralynn
You guys are a hot couple
😉 Well thank ya!
