Instead of spending the Memorial Day weekend barbecue hopping, Kyle and I headed down to Savannah, GA. It was both of our first times traveling there and I had dreamed of going for years. Savannah was everything I imagined and more. There was so much to do and explore that is was nearly impossible to cover it all in one weekend, which just means that we will have to go back, and I am so OK with that.
On the first night, we stayed at the River Street Inn. It was a beautiful five-story historic hotel right on the Savannah River. The Inn was built 200 years ago and was previously a cotton warehouse. Kyle did all the planning and made every moment so special. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. We had a cozy room right on the corner, which gave us a view of the Savannah River and the city. I loved everything about the decor. It had a canopy bed, old hardwood floors and long luxurious drapes over the floor length windows. It was like taking a step back in time. Some people claim that the inn is haunted. You all know I’m totally into the ghost stuff, so I had to do some research. Apparently the staff and guest have reported sightings of a man in tan pants that walks down the halls, lights flickering on and off, and the sound of wheels rolling so loud that the bed shakes. The most haunted room in the hotel is on the third floor, 317. Staff and guest say that they hear their names being called. It’s never a mean spirit or bad energy that is felt or witnessed.
We didn’t experience any weird ghost encounters. The only weird thing was that we both felt dizzy every time we walked into the room. Our theory was that the old elevators made us dizzy and since we walked straight to the room, we didn’t feel it until we stood still.
As an antique lover, I really appreciated the old lamps, rugs, photos, and art they had throughout the inn. I especially loved the old brick walls and period furniture. I could sit in an antique chair with a cup of coffee and a newspaper every morning and never get sick of it.
After getting checked into our hotel, we headed out to grab a bite to eat for lunch on River Street.
It was so convenient that our hotel was within walking distance to almost everything. We stopped at a little shop next door to buy an umbrella and then walked down the old cobblestone pathway to River Street. We decided to have lunch at Tubby’s Seafood Restaurant. We started off with some tasty local steamed shrimp in a spicy garlic hot sauce. I ordered the Caesar salad topped with a crab cake. The crab cakes were super delicious and flavored perfectly. I would have never thought I’d eat a Caesar salad with a crab cake, but the combo worked.
I was excited to try all kinds of coffee shops while I was in Savannah. Coffee is my blood type. The first coffee I had was from Vic’s Coffee House on River Street. I always order a small latte (8-12 oz.) with skim and three shots of espresso. This was such a fun and spunky little coffee shop. They offered all kinds of desserts, fruit smoothies, and alcoholic drinks.
The rain let up after we were done eating. We decided to take a walk to Broughton Street because it’s full of shops, restaurants and art galleries down in the historic district. It’s definitely one of the main streets for action.
Shopping was one of the best parts of walking down Broughton Street.
After making our way back to the hotel, we got all cleaned up for dinner. We headed across the street to have a cozy meal at B. Matthews Eatery. This corner restaurant was so warm and inviting. It had old rustic walls, dark ceilings, and soft lighting fixtures. I ordered the pan-seared salmon with tomato-spinach ragout, lemon-caper brown butter with parsnip frittes. The salmon was cooked perfectly and fell apart with the touch of a fork. Every bite was as good as the first.
It started pouring on our walk back to the hotel, but we embraced the rainfall. Sometimes the beauty of nature is refreshing and vibrant if you let it be. You can’t control every moment, but you can surely make the best of it.
The best part of waking up is, of course, being alive, but the second best part is the coffee. We eyeballed Cafe M while walking to the inn on Saturday. We agreed on having breakfast there Sunday morning. This little cafe had my name written all over it. The white walls, the rustic wood floors, the French style patio tables, and the refurbished furniture is how I would describe the perfect cafe. This is why Savannah felt like a dream. Not only was the cafe super cute and filled with so many delicious options, but the staff’s friendliness was memorable and something that should not go unnoticed.
I’m usually not a huge fan of drip coffee in a cardboard cup, which is why I normally order lattes when they are to-go. I was so happy when they offered coffee in a mug. I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a bit of a coffee snob, or just extremely detailed and picky when it comes to my coffee. That first cup is the best cup and it has to be taken seriously. I also hit the coffee jackpot since they had a medium dark roast brewed. I don’t waste my time with a light roast.
I loved this mug so much. It reminds me of my grey and floral bedspread. I like anything floral and grey is my favorite color, so these mugs had my name written all over them. When I was finished with my coffee, I flipped the mug over to read the details and search for it online. I found it in seconds! I ordered two mugs for my place to keep as a reminder of my beautiful weekend. You can find the mug along with other matching pieces on replacements.com. They are very affordable too.
We headed down to the hotel’s gym after breakfast. It was such a cool looking gym because they kept the historic theme. It’s nice to have someone who enjoys working out on trips. Sometimes it’s hard to motivate yourself, so if you hold each other accountable, it seems to all workout (no pun intended.)
We did some ab workouts and arm toning workouts. We planned on walking everywhere on Sunday so we didn’t focus too much on the legs. I have so much to learn from him!
After the gym, I grabbed some coffee from the lobby and headed up to the room to get ready for the day.
The sun decided to make an appearance for a bit. We packed all of our bags and headed to our next place. I had no idea what to expect or where we were staying. Kyle made everything a surprise. I’ve never been one for surprises or not planning, but this was a nice change for once.
We pulled into the President’s Quarters Inn. I guess it was a weekend full of bucket list check offs. I have always wanted to stay at a bed and breakfast and the President’s Quarter’s Inn was over the top!
The first thing you notice while walking in is the gorgeous courtyard surrounded by vines and flowers. There are little outdoor dining tables next to a romantic gazebo. Everything was so inviting and whimsical.
The staff instantly became our friends. They joked around with us and made us feel right at home. They had all kinds of advice on what to do in Savannah and went above and beyond to make our trip unforgettable. If you’re looking for a bed and breakfast to stay at in Savannah, don’t think twice about booking here. We had the best experience ever and we can’t wait to come back.
The President’s Quarter’s was built in 1855 and each of the sixteen guest rooms is named after U.S. Presidents who have visited the city. The inn is located in the historic district on the Oglethorpe Square. I love that the inn kept the historic look by furnishing rooms with antique fixtures and period furniture. Even though Mr. Grumples stayed back in Charlotte with the grandparents, I like the fact that this bed and breakfast is dog-friendly. Dogs are family too.
We stayed in the George H.W. Bush suite. The room was ginormous and so elegant. The mahogany king sleigh bed was to die for and so comfortable. I felt like I jumped into House of Cards and was sleeping in the White House like Claire Underwood. We heard that Robert E. Lee stayed in this room during his visit to Savannah in the late 1800’s.
Not only was the room a surprise, but also there were wine, gourmet chocolates and a bouquet of flowers Kyle had sent to the room before our arrival, sitting on the beautiful mahogany desk. Again, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
After getting settled into the inn, we headed out for more exploring. We wanted to have a non-planned and carefree weekend so that we could do whatever we felt like at the moment. I really liked that because sometimes it’s stressful to rush places on a schedule. I did know one thing…coffee was a definite must.
I love reading all of your suggestions on places to stop while I’m on trips. I usually pull my phone out to go over the list of recommendations provided. I most certainly take notice in all of your coffee shop referrals! When I saw The Coffee Fox coffee shop, I remembered it from several of your comments. I knew I had to try it out.
I ordered a small latte with skim and three shots of espresso (my usual.) I also ordered Foxy’s house-made granola — old fashioned oats, pumpkin seeds, pecans, coconut, honey, cinnamon served with low fat plain yogurt. The granola was AWESOME! Kyle ordered the Huevos Racheros Quiche which had black beans, tomatoes, green chilies, onions and monterey jack. It looked pretty good! The Coffee Fox also offers craft beer, wine and cheese plates.
I loved their decor. It was super funky and entertaining for the eyes. I kept looking around at all the art and details. My latte was creamy and rich; just the way I like it. I don’t like when there is more milk than espresso or too much espresso and not enough milk. As Goldilocks would say, “it was just right.”After walking around and filling up on coffee, we took a drive out to Tybee Island to walk the beach and visit the Tybee Island Light House. It’s only 18-20 miles away from the historic district. It’s a gorgeous drive too. We wanted a quick bite to eat for lunch, so we stopped at 80 East Gastropub. It had so many great reviews and was close by. The menu was very large with so many options to choose from. I just wanted something light because Kyle made dinner reservations for seven.
I ordered the Artisan salad. It came with onions, cherry tomatoes and artisan lettuce tossed in a strawberry vinaigrette. Our waitress was super sweet. She filled us in on some of the local spots and her favorite non-touristy areas to visit. We took her advice and drove away from the main drive to park and walk the beach. It was super windy and overcast, the perfect photo taking conditions! Being on a beach makes me happy, even if it’s overcast or too cold to swim. I love the waves, the smell, and walking barefoot in the sand.
I can see why so many movies are filmed on Tybee Island (other than the nice tax incentives). One of my favorite Nicholas Sparks films, The Last Song was filmed there. It is so beautiful and peaceful. I believe they are actually filming Baywatch there right now. Imagine seeing The Rock walking down the beach? I’m sure sharks are even scared of him. Tybee Island has three miles of public beach to enjoy. If you like fishing, this is your place! The beaches also have public piers for you to set up your poles on. Apparently, the wild caught Georgia shrimp is to die for, but not worries if you can’t catch any; luckily Tybee Island has over 25 fabulous restaurants that will most likely serve them.It was so relaxing to walk the beach while the waves creeped up to the shore washing away the sand that covered our feet.
Tybee Island is known for their wildlife. The island is filled with birds, sea turtles and even manatees.
Soon Kyle will be better at blogging than me. I loved watching him take photos and play around with the camera.
I could spend all day at the beach taking photos. I tried to limit the amount of photos added to this post because I didn’t want it to get too overwhelming. I do have several I sent to the printers for framing and I cannot wait to see how they turned out. I was inspired after visiting several art galleries in the historic district and now I’m going to give this black and white thing a shot. I’ll let you know how the photos turn out.
We headed back to the inn around four to get ready for our guided tour around historic Savannah, followed by dinner. We rocked out to Ray Charles on the way back.
It was pouring again, but the tour was still so much fun. We learned all kinds of interesting and weird facts about the buildings and the city. I really enjoyed touring all the squares and learning about their significance. We had dinner at Garibaldis. It was an elegant restaurant with gold ceilings that I couldn’t stop staring at. We sat in a cute little corner booth with flowers and a candle on our table. It couldn’t have been any more romantic.
We decided to treat ourselves to a plate of calamari. It was served with an apricot shallot sauce that complimented the calamari perfectly. It reminded me of a sweet chili sauce but not as spicy.
Our waiter was so professional and I was so impressed with how well he knew the restaurant and the menu. I would be a hot mess if I were in his shoes.
This trip was all about the seafood for me and Savannah had so much to offer. I went with the seared salmon for the second night in a row. It was a great choice again! It came with whipped potatoes, lump crab, spinach, mushrooms and Asiago cream sauce. I tried Kyle’s steak and they cooked it to perfection. This restaurant did not disappoint.
After dinner, we put on our workout clothes and headed out for a night walk around the historic district. We even eavesdropped on some of the walking ghost tours. I think that would be such a fun job, I had to practice some of my spooky storytelling voices.
Everything is lit up at night, so you can enjoy the beautiful history 24 hours a day.
We walked by the Diner that Jenny, from Forest Gump, worked at. Did you know that Jenny was played by Robin Wright (Claire Underwood?) Leave it to Kyle to have all the fun facts.
We stopped at the Woof Gang Bakery. Kyle picked up tons of treats for Grumples and spoiled him rotten!
I even picked up a Savannah bone for Becca’s pup. We walked around for miles until we were too exhausted to keep going, so we headed back to our Inn and called it a night.
I got up bright and early to get ready for the day before we headed down for breakfast at 8am. I really appreciated the set up and the fresh coffee bar.
We took our coffee and tea outside to sit while we waited for breakfast. I also bought a mug so I could bring a little piece of the inn home.
There were two breakfast options to choose from. We could have went with the blueberry pancakes, but we both decided on the fresh fruit, yogurt, breakfast bread and granola! Everything was super delicious and fresh. I especially liked the granola, it has me wanting to make my own homemade granola this weekend.
I was so sad to pack up and say goodbye to the staff at the bed and breakfast, but I was really looking forward to our final afternoon in Savannah.
We made our way down to the Colonial Park Cemetery. I had to stop on every block to take a photo of something.
We spent about an hour walking through the cemetery and reading all about those who were buried there.
There is so much history to be told in this cemetery. This is a favorite spot for people to visit on ghost tours. I’m not sure if any of you believe in orbs, but there are two visible ones in this photo.
Here is a creepy little story that showed up on the cemetery’s website…
“The Colonial Park Cemetery is also home to one of Savannah’s most famous ghosts, that of “Rene Asche Rondolier (or Renee Rondolia Asch), a disfigured orphan who was said to have called Colonial Park his home in the early 1800s. Accused of murdering two girls whose bodies were found in the cemetery, Rene was dragged to the nearby swamps and lynched and left for dead. More dead bodies turned up in the cemetery in the days that followed. The townspeople were convinced it was Rene’s ghost and some still call the cemetery, Rene’s playground.”
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is beautiful. You can’t miss it.
The church’s history is so interesting.
The parish was established in the late 1700’s by immigrants fleeing France and Haiti. The Cathedral was finally built 35 years later and Pope Pius IX recited the diocese in 1850. It was the only Catholic church in Savannah and was soon destroyed by a hurricane. After the hurricane, they built and repaired the church up into a cathedral. This cathedral must have had bad luck because it caught on fire in 1898 and was rebuilt again one year later. The cathedral was officially restored inside and out thirteen years after the fire. In 1998 they did another two-year renovation on the church to honor the 150th year anniversary of the parish.
Fountain in the Lafayette Square.
The Hamilton-Turner Inn took my breath away as we walked by it. (update! we stayed there!)
The inn was built in 1873 by Samuel Pugh Hamilton on The Lord of Lafayette (what he was informally known as) square.
I loved reading all about the history of this inn and taking a look inside.
I could stare at the Savannah trees all day long. Gorgeous hydrangeas in the square.
The Alex Raskin Antique shop was on of my favorite mansions. It remains unrestored and historic. The mansion is on the Monterey Square and was completed in 1869.
Like all the other buildings in Savannah, the history is so interesting. Read more about the history of the Antique shop here. I would imagine it to be one of the most haunted spots in Savannah…
The Mercer Williams House Museum. Built in 1860 and designed by New York architect John S. Norris for General Hugh W. Mercer.
This house was from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, owned by Jim Williams! His sister is the current owner of the home.
This four-story mansion is the 100-year-old Armstrong house. In its 100 years of life, it’s only had three owners, the originals being the Armstrong family. It became a junior college in 1935 but is now a prestigious law firm.
One of the owners was a Character from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Jim Williams, real antique dealer and the only person in Georgia to ever be tried four times for the same crime.
The home was built with an Italian Renaissance style.
We made our way to Forsyth Park. It’s made up of 30 acres in the historic district of Savannah. It has the famous fountain you see in almost all of the Savannah photos. This is a beautiful place to walk and the trees hang over the paths.
After all of the morning exploring, we were ready for some coffee!
We decided to go to The Paris Market.
Hello.
Kyle ordered the White Wolf Tea. I was kind of obsessed with the white mug and the wooden spoon. I know what my next purchase will be…
It was so hot out, so I went with an iced latte with skim and three shots of espresso. It was really really really good! I didn’t have one bad coffee on this trip.
I always make people try my things.
Kyle had never had a macaron before, so it was important to change that.
We had a Matcha green tea macaron and Snickers Macaron. Both super amazing and I knew he’d be a fan! They are not what you expect them to be. I remember trying my first and falling in love at first bite.
The Paris Market was also a boutique/gift shop. We did some exploring upstairs and downstairs. The books laying on the staircase was like a work of art.
I heard that the Marshall House is pretty haunted…and look an orb!
We did a little more antique exploring before lunch. Look at all those old cameras!
We had lunch at the Kayak Kafe. I loved this place because it was fresh and healthy! I ordered the Broughton Cobb salad. It had organic greens, roma tomatoes, Vidalia onions, applewood bacon, roasted chicken, asiago & sliced avocado. I had the balsamic vinaigrette for my dressing and everything was super delicious.
After our lunch, we decided to walk back to the car and head back to Charlotte.
The Owens Thomas House.
As we were getting ready to head home, we came across this adorable kitty! I had to snap a photo one last time.
I had the most magical and unforgettable weekend in Savannah with one of the greatest guys. I needed someone to pinch me over and over to believe that it wasn’t a dream. I cannot wait to go back and experience more.
Questions for you!
- What is your favorite part about history?
- If you could go back in time, who would you want to meet?
- What is one place you’d like to visit for the weekend?

I am so happy to see you so happy! He seems like a charmer, and you are so well deserving of that Tara!
Savannah is a beautiful place + you captured it so well! xo
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you very much Lindsey! That means a lot.
Tara says
It sounds like such a magical weekend! You guys make a cute couple! 🙂 I’m glad you’re happy and I’m so happy for you! There are so many places that I would love to visit on a long weekend…Your posts are making me want to visit Charlotte and Savannah!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Tara! It was truly a magical weekend. Charlotte and Savannah would be a great place to visit. I love my city!
Kate says
It would have been nice to give an introduction to who the heck Kyle even is/how you met him. You went from showing mysterious photos of the back of his head and saying you are “seeing someone” and then to using his first name like we already know who he is.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Kate,
I don’t really find any of that information about Kyle and I relevant to my blog. I think some of my life needs to remain private and shared only with close friends and family. This blog is for me to share what I feel comfortable with and not every detail of my life will land here. This post was about my trip to Savannah and how much fun we had together. I mentioned in a previous post that I was seeing someone and I think that sums it up enough. I hope you can enjoy my photos from the trip as I had a blast. Savannah has so much to offer!
Taralynn
Cali says
I love your classiness. You don’t have to share anything with us and you choose to do so. Thank you for every piece you write.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Cali!
Kathryn says
so true!
Danielle says
I agree with Cali. I love how classy and kind you are to people who try to bring you down. I love how you casually mentioned Kyle to us and then revealed a bit more about him on the trip. There is no need to reveal your entire life to the public. I’ve been following you for several years now and almost feel like we are friends, because you tell just enough for your online “friends”. Thanks for always letting us in! =) I’m so happy you are happy and had an amazing trip! I can’t wait to see more adventures the two of you go on together, Taralynn!
Amanda says
I’m very happy for you Taralynn! I’ve been following you for five years and have appreciated everything you choose to share!
Morgan says
LOL. People read your blog and somehow think they have a ‘right’ to whatever info they want? Yeesh. That’s the kind of treatment celebrities get all the time, so I guess in a weird way it’s a compliment?? No, actually Kate, that rude af. Tara, I’ve been reading your stuff for years and when I saw you with a new guy I was THRILLED for you, and even if you never mentioned him before I wouldn’t act entitled to know more than you want to tell because it’s NONE of my damn business. 😀 You do you girl. You look happy and that makes me happy for you.
Samantha says
I agree with these ladies– you have a right to your own privacy! It’s none of my business who you are dating and not really a main concern of mine (no offense! 🙂 but who you’re dating has nothing to do with my life). I’m happy to see you with a new guy and totally respect your right to keep your personal life private. You do not owe us a single thing in terms of telling us about Kyle, but I’m glad you’re happy with him and had a great trip! I’ve been to Savannah a couple times and plan to go back again one day! So much to do and see!
Katie says
Who cares?! She is happy and she shares what she feels comfortable with, she’s not a Kardashian 😉 As a regular reader I appreciate the mystery and hope she doesn’t feel that she needs to share EVERYTHING with us. Love you Taralynn, looks like an AMAZING weekend!!!
Dani says
You guys are one hot looking couple. I really appreciated the work you put into this blog post. Savannah looks almost as beautiful as you.
Taralynn McNitt says
Ha! Well thank you very much Dani! You are the sweetest.
Amber says
You are aware that light roast has the most caffeine, correct?
Taralynn McNitt says
I don’t necessarily drink it for the caffeine, more for the taste! I have actually heard that before and I find it mind blowing!
I had to google it again because I forgot the logic behind it!
“If you measure your coffee by scoops, light roasted coffee will have more caffeine. Since the beans are denser than a darker roast. However if you weigh out your scoops, darker roasts will have more caffeine, because there is less mass”
Ashley Kohl says
If you ever get the chance you should go to Costa Rica! Best coffee ever! We took a tour and learned that the “dark roast” is actually burnt coffee beans that didn’t make the cut for the good coffee…so they sell them to us dummy Americans who think dark roast is better, jokes on us!
Taralynn McNitt says
Sometimes the burnt things are better!:)
Jacqueline says
Hey girl! I LOVE this post and your pictures so much!! I am so glad you had such a fun weekend. I am hoping to take a road trip this summer with my husband and I think I may suggest Savannah after seeing all your pics. We are antique junkies too! He is in Atlanta until Monday right now without me so I’m pining after your sweet couples weekend ?
I don’t know about the orbs. I feel like I see those in lots of pictures but it sure makes you curious! Thank you for the fun post! I know you put a lot of work into those awesome shots!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much.
If you guys are antique junkies, Savannah is YOUR place. There are antique shops everywhere. I hope you guys get to experience Savannah. It’s such a beautiful and romantic place.
I think they are just fun. They are probably from the sun or my lens, but it’s still fun to joke around about them. You never know 😉 xo
Jacqueline Miller says
So he said he’s totally up for going! We’re planning our trip now! It’s a 14 hours from us but neither of us have been to the east coast so it should be a fun drive. We are super excited! I’m showing him your post when he gets home so he can get as excited as I am! Yay!!
Taralynn McNitt says

Wow, now I really want to visit Savannah! I just finished reading Gone With the Wind – you should check it out if you haven’t read it! Kyle seems very thoughtful and sweet – as an Iowan, I’ve been following your blog for years. Glad to see you happy and healthy! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes you do! It’s a beautiful place with so much history!
Fun fact…*the TARA in my name comes from that movie. My mom was obsessed with Gone With the Wind and named me after it.
Thank you so much for the kind words and I always love hearing from an Iowan! I need to get back there soon. xo xo
Laura says
That’s awesome you’re named after Tara! And I’m going to check out Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil mentioned in another comment. Thanks!
Kaitlin Montoya says
I really think you might like “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. It is a mystery thriller set in Savannah, and many of the places you visited are featured. I love Tybee and Savannah, we went there on our honeymoon.
Taralynn McNitt says
YES! Loved it and I love Kevin Spacey. That is a great place for a honeymoon. xo xo
Jenny says
This looks like it was a delightful weekend! Super happy for you. 🙂

I think there are some jealous commenters ?. Lacking their own love life and need to know all about yours maybe?
I love history! I actually went to Savannah once when I was young and I’m dying to go back, your pics reminded me why! Lol
I’m not sure who is want to go back in time and meet, maybe Abe Lincoln.
Also, I am also team dark roast all the way and love seeing cute coffee shops like these!
Taralynn McNitt says
You should definitely go back! It’s so beautiful and I think you can appreciate it more the older you are. I know that as a kid I would have never enjoyed it. Abe Lincoln would be an interesting one! I’d love to meet Rosa Parks. I think she’s such a boss!
TEAM DARK ROAST FOR THE WIN! XO
Kate M says
I always love your catch up posts because we get to see all your gorgeous pictures! It looks like such a fun time. I prefer long/holiday weekends like that over partying any day! Also your new friend is wearing a Frank Underwood shirt, he’s a keeper 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kate!
We both love that show and it’s funny because we both surprised each other with an underwood 16′ shirt and didn’t know we were both getting them. He’s definitely a keeper. Savannah was amazing!

Whitney says
Tara,
I love your blog so much and always look forward to a post! I’m also so glad your happy so don’t let anyone get you down ahout Kyle. It’s your life. Live it your way.
Also I love all the historical pictures you upload as well as the history info! History has always been my favorite!
You are a beautiful inspiration, keep at it.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much Whitney! The support means everything.
Love that you enjoyed the history. I really tried to learn so much and I find it all so fascinating. There is still so much to learn about Savannah! Every building, street or square has a story!
Aries says
Don’t let comments like that bother you, enjoy yourself, and let your readers have some time to adjust. Frankly, Kyle seems perfect for you. Good luck!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hey Aries!
Thank you so much and I really do not let anything bother me. I fill people in on as much as I can without my life being 100% exposed. I think some things are just meant for ourselves 🙂 xo xo
Brooklyn says
I moved to Alaska from Savannah and I miss is so much! It’s so beautiful. If you ever go back Chart House has amazing food!
I’ve been following your blog for about 4 years now and I am happy to see you so happy. You don’t owe anyone and details into your life that you don’t want to. I wish you all the happiness in the world!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is such a crazy move. I bet the transition was very different! I know Alaska must be gorgeous as well.
& thank you so much for all of your kind words. That means the world to me! xo
Brooklyn says
It was a big adjustment for sure! We made a huge road trip out of the move and it was fantastic. But my husband is military so home is wherever the Army sends us. Alaska has been a great experience, though the cold winters are not for me at all lol. We are headed back down south in August which means another cross country road trip for us and I’m super excited for it!
I don’t blog but I do document my travels through Instagram if you wanna check it out

Your photos are beautiful! I just checked out your instagram. I’d love to just jump through them and be there. I love that you’re exploring and traveling so much! I grew up in a military family and we were always on the move! XO
Vanessa says
As always, great post with amazing pictures! Honestly, before I found your blog I never really wanted to visit the US (and I’ve never been there) but your travel blogs really change that and once I have the money I’ll definitely go to the US for a vacation 🙂
What is your favorite part about history?
I love to see how things that happened in the past shaped our current world and thus why things are the way they are. I remember that learning in history class where the terms “right-wing party” and “left-wing party” come from was a big wow-moment.
If you could go back in time, who would you want to meet?
I’d love to grow up in the 90s instead of just being born then. Then I could go to all the great concerts of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and so on. I’d be a full-on grunge kid!
What is one place you’d like to visit for the weekend?
For the weekend I’d like to visit Copenhagen. It is not too far away and looks so pretty on pictures. Maybe someday I’ll make it there!

Thank you so much Vanessa! The United States has so many beautiful spots and so many spots I have yet to see!
Definitely a wow moment. It’s also crazy to sometimes see that our history really hasn’t changed much and our current world is still so similar to hundreds of years ago.
Nirvana! Find that time machine and take me with you.
Copenhagen looks beautiful!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Ashley says
Wow this trip looked super fun! And you look beautiful as always! I have a question, regarding dating, I don’t want to know any personal info but, do you have any tips of dating in general or meeting guys? I have the worst luck with meeting guys that I actually want to date, I can never seem to find any! Or even, where is the coolest place you can think of that someone has met someone? I’m not desperate but I am young and wanting to date and have fun! Thought I would ask you :3 thank you!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much Ashley!
I’m REALLY not good at dating or meeting guys to be honest. You kind of have to just let things happen naturally and I think if you’re “looking” for someone, you’ll never find them. Just be the best version of yourself, go out with friends to places, join meet up groups for things that you’re interested in or maybe be the assertive one and ask a guy out that you find attractive. Who says the man has to do it? Just remember to never change who you are for a person and that right person will come along.
Amanda says
I’d like a post like that too! It would be cool to hear the story of how you met this new guy. I think a lot of girls can relate to finding a good guy out there. He seems like a great fit for you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Amanda! Maybe an idea for the future! xo
Alexa says
I’ve been wanting to go to Savannah for a while now and your blog post has sold me! I must go!! We are going to Nashville, TN for a long weekend in October, but I feel Savannah needs to be soon too!
You look so happy and I’m glad you had a great time!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Savannah is a must, so add it to your list. You will have a great time in Nashville! I loved it when I went.
Thank you so much! xo
Danielle says
Hey Alexa!I live in Nashville and love it here! If you’re a coffee drinker, you must check out Frothy Monkey on 12th Avenue South. They have the best coffee in town! Also, 12th Avenue South has tons of great local shops! My favorite is White’s Mercantile! Franklin is about 20 minutes away from Nashville and they have a great old downtown with lots of history and antique stores. You should also check out Hatch Show Print in downtown Nashville and the Country Music Hall of Fame while you’re here. Even if you don’t enjoy country music, like me, it’s a great experience!I hope you have a great trip here!!
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Wow I loved reading through this and seeing all of your pictures! Sooo beautiful! I literally am in love with the south–I’m so hoping I can move down south some day <3 So happy that you had such a great time…I'll have to come back to this post should I decide…WHEN…I go to Savannah!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Heather!
It is beautiful down here and I am so lucky to live so close to the most beautiful places. Make sure to add Savannah to that list of places to go! xo
Jenny says
Looks like a great trip. Your photos are always so stunning! Thank you for sharing them with us!
I love taking pictures but am having a real heck of a time trying to figure out how to NOT shoot on auto. =)
If you have any tips on how you got started with your photography – I’d love to hear it!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jenny!
You just have to keep playing around with your camera and all kinds of cameras. I’ve been into it for years and its all about finding YOUR eye and YOUR style. I make sure to stay away from the flash and get all the natural lighting I can. The more you play around, the better you get! There is no set way on how to take the perfect photo, because everyone has a different eye and a different artistic feel. JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT! 🙂
Carly says
Your trip sounds like a real life fairytale weekend! So happy to see you so happy! Your post and beautiful pictures make me want to visit Savannah! It looks like an adorable and charming place!
I’m not usually one to be excited about history, but I do like seeing how people lived through different periods of time. Like what they did, what they ate, etc.
After following your blog Charlotte and Charleston have been on my To Visit list for over a year! And now after this post I am adding Savannah to that list! I’d also love to visit New Orleans, Nashville, Austin, Portland, and Seattle… Guess you can call me a travel junkie 😛
Taralynn McNitt says
It really felt like a real life fairytale. Charming is the perfect word to describe Savannah and you should definitely make a trip there sometime. I think history is so much cooler when you’re standing right in front of it. I love that you’re a travel junkie. I have to get to more places soon! xo
Jennifer says
What a fun trip! After reading there seems to be more to Savannah that I thought. Now I want to go even more! P.s. Love that you found someone that clearly loves to be healthy as much as you. So much support!
I love all of the education, memories, and lessons learned that history brings us. Obviously not everything in history has been good, but I find the takeaways from the past to be very inspiring, and feel as though we need to take a look back more often! Also, the antiques 😉
Ronald Reagan. Hands down.
I would really like to go to New Orleans again for a long weekend. I went for a youth gathering with church about 7 years ago, and would love to go back and experience everything I couldn’t then! So much history there too.
I have a question for you as well. For my trip in a couple weeks to NYC, I really want to bring my camera (a DSLR) but it’s huge. When you go on trips, how do you go about carrying it around? Do you bring a camera bag everywhere or keep it in your purse? That’s one thing I’m struggling with to figure out when it comes to traveling haha
Taralynn McNitt says
Savannah is unbelievable. It was truly so amazing and there is so much to do/see. & thank you for your kind words!!
You said that beautifully and you’re very right!
Loved Reagan. I’d want to meet him and his wife together. I LOVE them.
I’ve never been to New Orleans! Heard the food is amazing.
I take my camera bag everywhere! I use it as my carry on on the plane too. It is a side strap so I can keep it in front of me. Sometimes I put my wallet and all the important things in the side pocket so I don’t have to carry around a purse with it. Less is better! You don’t want to wear your camera around your neck because it’ll get painful and you never know what could happen!
Jennifer says
Thank you so much for that! After reading your comment I actually went on etsy (because the bag I have now is the boring generic that comes with the camera and doesn’t have a crossbody) and found this one. SO cute and everything in her shop is adorable and looks like real purses!
https://www.etsy.com/listing/278739136/camera-bag-dslr-bag-ladies-small-camera?ref=related-0
Taralynn McNitt says
ok that is super cute!! now i want one!
Meg says
I LOVE your pictures!! I visited Savannah a few years back, my cousin when to Savannah College of Art and Design, and it was so amazing. It is easy to fall in love with it’s charm. These pictures make me want to go back! So happy for you that you found someone who appreciates all of the same things you do! Take care 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Meg! xo
SCAD was such a cool looking school. I couldn’t imagine living in Savannah and going to school. What a blast that would be and filled with so much inspiration!
Nicole says
That photo of the blue door and window looks so perfect! Like something I would want to mat and frame as a print! Looks like an amazing time!
Taralynn McNitt says
Well thank you Nicole!! 🙂
Jennie says
Looks like you had a fabulous time! You deserve every happiness! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jennie!
Sydney says
Hey Tara, I really enjoyed reading your post filled with beautiful pictures and happy vibe. Thank you for sharing as always 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Sydney!!
Krista says
Love this post!! It looks like you guys had so much fun, and it’s awesome to see how much thought Kyle put into planning the trip for the two of you! I never manage to find the good coffee on trips, I’ve gotta figure that out ?
Not sure where I’d want to go for a weekend visit though. I’m headed to Maryland and Connecticut for a couple of weekends soon, but beyond that, not sure. Hmm… but if I could go back in history, I’d want to meet some of the former First Ladies from the first few presidents; I think it would be awesome to see how they handled being in the public eye, so to speak, or even how it was for them back then in general as compared with now.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much Krista!!
We had a blast. Just ask around and the locals always have the best spots to visit. Or just wing it while you’re out and about!
I think meeting the first ladies would be so coo!!
Emily B says
Oh my gosh. Loved this post! I have such a travel bug right now it’s not even funny!
1) I have always loved history. My favorite subject in school and I have always loved learning it. I love to think about the people of significance that have walked through the places I’m visiting. That’s why DC is one of my favorite places to visit. Like standing on top of the Lincoln Memorial steps where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech takes my breath away EVERY. TIME.
2) Abraham Lincoln because he is my favorite president or Anne Frank because I love to learn and read about the Holocaust. It’s the most fascinating time in history to me.
3) I really would just love to go ANYWHERE that I haven’t been. I’ve been challenged to accumulate experienced more than possessions. I want to go more and do more. Hoping to be able to do that in the future.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much Emily!
The travel bug is a serious thing! 😀
DC IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES TOO! I always try to go back into time when I’m there.
Very good people to meet!
That is a great challenge. I think I need to remember that. xo
kelly says
Your photos are amazing!!!! My husband and I took a road trip to Charleston SC last summer and someone suggested we took a day trip to Savannah, but we didn’t end up going. Seeing your photos makes me wish we would have done that!! 🙁
The new guy seems sweet and you look happy! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kelly!!
It’s hard to do both in one weekend because they are both great spots. I think each need their own weekend. Just set a weekend aside in the future for Savannah! 😀 xo xo I’m VERY happy and he’s the sweetest. THANK YOU!!!
Mindy says
Kyle is damn good looking! I’m so happy you’re happy Taralynn!
Taralynn McNitt says
haha Thank you Mindy! 🙂
Heather says
I was just in Savannah at the end of April and, yes, it is so beautiful and romantic. I loved all of the history. We walked and walked and walked the whole time we were there, even passing the same places multiple times, and my eyes were always catching some new detail.
I saw a comment above about camera bags and I am on the search for a stylish one. I would love a post about camera bags that you think are both functional and stylish!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is exactly what we did. We eventually knew our way around pretty well!
My camera bag came with my camera and it has pockets for my camera, accessories and the lens! It’s padded for protection. Cannon sells great ones!
Kelly says
Robin Wright played Jenny in Forrest Gump?! Just blew my mind…
Taralynn McNitt says
YES!! Crazy.
Kelsey K says
Your photos were beautiful from this trip! I want to visit Savannah so bad now! Also, I am so happy for you! Kyle seems like he is very thoughtful and kind! It’s also extremely nice to be dating someone who has an active lifestyle! (I have been on both ends as well!) My boyfriend and I are both extremely active people and it’s nice to have someone who pushes you and wants to crawl out of bed at unreasonable hours to go to the gym (4:30 am)! 🙂
BTW, for people who get angry at you not sharing your all your life. That’s insane….I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts, but it’s your life. The beauty about blogging is that you get to share what you want. One of the doctors I work with has a saying I like best and it’s, “You do you.” (Always a healthy thing to keep in mind when you work 14 hour shifts with the same people for 5-6 days at a time!)
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Kelsey!
Thank you so much. You really should take a trip to Savannah. It’s worth every second. Kyle really is the greatest! I’m glad that you also have someone who has the same lifestyle as you, really makes a difference! Waking up at 4:30 am for the gym is dedication! I have to have my coffee lol
And THANK YOU AGAIN! i’ll keep that little motto with me!
xo
Jen says
Did you know that light roast coffee actually usually has more caffeine than dark roast? It’s counter-intuitive but something to do with the type of bean and the roasting process. And coffee has more caffeine than espresso as well. Just a random little fyi!
Taralynn McNitt says
I’ve heard that! It was mentioned in another comment. I don’t really drink the coffee for the caffeine (after the first cup) and I just love the rich and deep taste of the dark roast. 🙂
Jessica Anderson says
1. My favorite part about history is the Civil War and World War II. Both associated with tragic events and parts of history but so important and fascinating.
2. I would love to meet someone like Harriet Tubman, who was so courageous and risked her own life to help others. I think it would be a long list when I really thought about it!
3. Now I really want to go to Savannah! I love the South and would like to explore it more. It has such rich history and I love the ghost/haunting stories! Give me chills!
Taralynn McNitt says
After reading your comments, Savannah would be PERFECT for you and you’d love it! It’s filled with so much history. AND GHOSTS!
Jessica says
Loved this post, so happy you finally got to go to Savannah and Tybee Island. There are both awesome places. But after reading this post, I’m now on wanting to watch House of Cards… can you do a recap post on that next? LOL I feel like i’m missing out on something great.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jessica!
House of Cards is a must! It’s something you have to watch without doing anything else. When I’m watching I make sure to NOT work or do anything other than pay attention to the show. It’s so good and the characters are awesome. I’ve watched the first two seasons three times now and I’ll be watching the third again and again. I’ve been obsessed for a while!
Christina B says
My sister and I are trying to plan a trip down to Savannah and this gave me so many ideas so thank you! Also, these photos are absolutely gorgeous! You’ve got such a great eye!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Christina!!
You guys will LOVE Savannah so much!

AMY says
I saw you and Kyle together in Savannah. I wanted to stop and say hello but you guys looked so cute together. I hope this does not come off as creepy but I didn’t want to bother you on your trip. I work at Garibaldi’s and I about fainted when I saw you walk in. I hope you enjoyed my city and thank you for capturing it so well!
AMY
Taralynn McNitt says
That is not creepy at all! Garibaldi’s was amazing and I bet it’s such a great place to work! If you ever run into me again, just know that you wouldn’t be bothering me:) xo
Tiffany F. says
I only saw one orb in the cemetery picture! I’m from Charleston and occasionally go to Savannah, so I’ll have to check out some new spots you mentioned – apparently I’ve missed a lot!
Taralynn McNitt says
There is one giant one on the grave and one above it. I only saw one until Becca pointed out the other! 🙂 I love Charleston. I think thats my next trip.
Mechela says
Glad you enjoyed Savannah! When you get a chance when you go back, go out and check out the other barrier islands while there. Like Jekyll, St. Simmons, and Cumberland (they have wild horses there). They are great places to see wildlife. Also, fun fact since you guys are big House of Cards fans. The intro when the flag comes in with the title, was created by students at SCAD. Glad to see you so happy ?
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! I’d love to check all of them out. I saw them all mentioned online! 🙂
Brittany says
I just finished reading the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and I really enjoyed it. At first, I truly thought it was a weird book. Someone gave it to me after they finished it, which it why I read it in the first place. But I kept reading it and got hooked. I didn’t even know there was a movie until I was about 3/4 the way done reading. It was great to see the actual places the book talks about.
1.What is your favorite part about history?
I really enjoy learning about WWII things. I’m not sure why, but I have always been interested in the events that happened in that war.
2.If you could go back in time, who would you want to meet?
Not sure who exactly I’d like to meet. I guess my grandfather who died before I was born. I have heard so much about him my whole life, I would like to be able to meet him.
3.What is one place you’d like to visit for the weekend?
I live in Central New York, so I would like to visit Letchworth State Park. I just recently learned about this park. It is said to be the Grand Canyon of New York.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, I only watched the movie but I loved seeing those houses in person. It really was strange though!
I think I’d also like to meet my grandpa (on my dads side) who also died before I was alive. Imagine being able to do that for one day?
That sounds beautiful. New York is a gorgeous state.
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass says
So, I’m team light roast…but, also team, any coffee is better than no coffee. Haha.
& haters gonna hate. Do you, Taralynn.
Savannah looks beautiful & I know I would love it’s southern charm & a whole city full of houses with front porches is my dream. I’m a southern girl at heart who just wants to sip coffee on my front porch & watch the neighbors go by. So IDK what I’m doing this far north. Haha
1. History. Hmm. This isn’t like a time period, but I love hearing about history from different sides of the coin. On my Croatia trip, I learned all about the split of Yugoslavia into present day countries from a native who lived through it vs what I learned about it in school.
2. I would meet Amelia Earhart in a heartbeat. She seems like such a bad-ass.
3. Savannah is on my list for sure, but it’s a bit of a hike from up here. I’d love to take a trip to the PA Grand Canyon in the fall & see all the leaves. The hiking & the views are supposed to be fantastic. I guess it’s called the PA GC for a reason…
Taralynn McNitt says
Hey Jessie!!!
That’s a team I can definitely get down with. Me without coffee is scary.
Just like you, I said I’d love to have coffee on every porch I passed…I just want to borrow someones porch for a morning 😉
Love that. I’m actually Croatian. My great grandparents came over to the states from there.
SHE DOES SEEM LIKE A BAD ASS CAUSE SHE IS!!:)
You would love savannah and if you go, lets meet there! I think you are the coolest and always have a blast on your adventures. You need to show me how it’s done.

I feel like in another life I was from the south. Every time I see anything relating to the south I feel a weird connection. And I’ve never even been!
Everything looks so beautiful and unique!
Also, your new man is such a cutie!
I hope you bought that LBD you snapchatted to Becca, you look like a total babe 🙂
That mug from Cafe M is so beautiful!
I’m glad you had an awesome weekend, I’m so happy for you 🙂

I definitely bought that dress!! 🙂 Thank you!!!!
xo xo xo I love hearing from you B!
Have a great weekend.

My husband and I honeymooned in Savannah for a week! It was such an amazing place and always something new to see every day! We got planned on grabbing a quick breakfast then head back and get ready for the day, we ended up walking around the cemetery for 3 hours! We also did a Carriage Ride at night and got extremely lucky to be the only 2 on it and our tour guide told us all the things they talk about on the ghost tours. Lets just say that when I took pictures near/at the cemetery the picture was pretty much all orbs! Loved reminiscing by looking at all of your pictures! We also went to Tybee just about everyday, LOVE that beach! If you like Oysters check out Bernies next time you go, there is one on the riverfront and at Tybee!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you for sharing all of that with me. Look alike you and your husband really had fun in Savannah! I will make sure to keep that place in mind 🙂 xo xo
Madeline says

Very excited for summer adventures, you always just look to be having a blast!

Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kat! I appreciate that so much.

Such a fun post! I always want to travel after reading your trip blogs!
I love everything about history: researching, exploring, talking about it, visiting museums, reading historical fiction and nonfiction etc. I’m a self-proclaimed history nerd. 🙂
I would love to meet Anne Boleyn and travel back to 16th century England. That would be intense! I’ve spent alot of my time researching European history.
Well I’d love to check out Savannah or hit the beach! Summer is here and all I want is sunshine, an ocean breeze and iced coffee (dark or light roast!)
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much Jen!
I would say you are a history junkie and I love it!
Definitely go to Savannah. I think it’s so you!!
Jacqueline says
Savannah is one of my dream destinations too. Looks like you’ve found your perfect 🙂

Kyla Woelfle says
I absolutely love seeing all of your pictures of Savannah!! It sounds and looks like you had an incredible time there! So happy to see you so happy and having an amazing time!
I do love history as well, and in fact I am a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution! It’s so fascinating to trace back to our ancestors and think about how we came to be who we are today! I love historical places like Savannah, Charleston!
There are too many people I would love to go back in time to meet, I don’t think I could choose just one person! Just to name a few of my top people I would like to meet: Leonardo Da Vinci; Einstein; Nikola Tesla; or F. Scott Fitzgerald.
One place I would love to visit for the weekend is actually back close to my old home in Charleston – Sullivan’s Island! I highly recommend checking it out! There is a great restaurant called “Poe’s Tavern” that is a must to eat at! I love the local feeling of Sullivan’s Island and it isn’t full of tourists like Folly Beach usually is. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kyla! It was a wonderful trip. & i’m very happy!
That sounds so cool! I also think it’s cool to trace back our ancestors. I bet you love D.C.!
Those are all three people i’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to meet! Especially F. SCOTT FITZGERALD!!
I love Sullivan’s island. I actually did a post on it last year 🙂 I love Edgar Allen Poe! xo

I went to Savannah with my boyfriend and his family a few years ago and it was so fun! I was going to comment last week about a bakery to go to for really yummy macaroons, but I couldn’t remember the name! So I’m glad you found some. I love your pictures, too! I’m making the one with the blue door my desktop background haha I’m glad you’re so happy! (You picked a cute one 😉 )

All of your posts make me want to come explore that area of the states! It’s a little far from my home way up north in Canada (I live in the Yukon, next to Alaska) but I definitely want to make it down there some day and check out these beautiful places.
I also appreciate your love of coffee, it speaks right to my heart!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jillian!!
We should just swap places for a month. I need to go visit northern Canada!! :)You really should make it down this way. It’s so beautiful. Coffee is a world language.

And keep smiling!

Thank you:) Just be yourself! Don’t ever do anything out of your character or that changes who you are to meet a guy. Don’t ever look for it, let it happen! Join some meet up groups for things that you’re interested in, make some new friends, and just enjoy meeting people!

Tara! This guy seems incredible! Any guy who would jet you off to a charming place like Savannah and spoil you is worth keeping. It’s so nice to see you happy.
I went to Savannah a couple of years ago on a family girls trip and it was so much fun! One of my favorite places was The Paris Market. I think I could live in there. If you ever go back, eat a slice at Vinnie Van Gogo’s, swing by the Savannah Bee Company, get some ice cream at Leopold’s, and take a ghost tour (the one I went one was Beyond Good and Evil – probably my favorite part of the trip).
You’ve made me eager to go back! Thanks for always filling our days with wonderful pictures and stories!
Taralynn McNitt says
He is incredible! You have that right!
YES I LOVED THE PARIS MARKET!!! Thank you for all the recommendations. I’ll be going back with my mom and becca soon! xo xo
