I’ve always had football teams to root for, but I’ve never had a NBA team. Now that I’m living in Charlotte, I’ve been going to a lot of the Hornet’s games. They’ve had a little rough patch in the middle of their season, but they’ve been pulling themselves together and winning more. (hopefully I didn’t just jinx them)
The city of Charlotte is gorgeous at night and Nick doesn’t live too far from the arena. We love going to the games for date nights.
After the game, we usually go get dinner at Macs or my favorite, Nan & Byrons. Nan & Byron’s has half off bottled wine on Tuesdays and we definitely take advantage of that.
It has been really cold here in Charlotte. I know I have nothing to complain about since it’s twice as cold in other places, but I’m just not used to it yet. I’ll take the 20’s or 30’s over the negatives I faced last winter in Detroit. Since it’s been cold, I’ve been craving warm comfort foods.
I ordered the tomato soup. The tomato soup comes with a crab and basil grilled cheese sandwich. I also ordered a side of broccolini.
I loved that the soup was just tomato and not tomato bisque. It’s so much better for you, but most restaurants don’t offer plain tomato. The flavor was amazing and the texture was nice and thick. The grilled cheese was out of this world and I would have never thought to add crab to grilled cheese.
Nick ordered the braised lamb shank. The last time I had lamb was a couple years ago in the Hamptons.
The Lamb at Nan & Bryon’s was even better. It fell right off the bone. The lamb shank came with white bean ragu, white bean puree, semolina gnocchi and braising sauce.
I’ve mentioned their brownie in several of my posts before, but it was time to try something new from their genius pastry chef. Our waiter recommended the Nan’s Oreos.

It sounds like the lamb was slow cooked or pressure cooked if the meat fell right off. 🙂 I love tender cooked meats like that.

Why are bisques not as good for you?
It all looked delicious. I know that will be on my list of places to go when my husband and I visit Charlotte. Everything you’ve posted from there looks fantastic!

The bisque has a lot of heavy cream added to it which takes away the “healthy” in tomato soup and adds a lot of unhealthy fat. Tomato soup doesn’t have that:)

Ahhhh, that’s why I like bisque so much 😉
Thanks for the response, Taralynn. I love your blog and I think you do a good job.

Hey! How long are you in Charlotte for? That’s where I live! (Well, I am in Australia til 18 February but I am back to NC *for good* then!) I’ve followed your blog for a few years (starting on tumblr obviously) so it’s so awesome that you’re in Charlotte now! And I know I’ve recommended it to you before, but you absolutely HAVE to go eat at Enzo in the Epicentre. You will love it, best sushi in Charlotte.
