Half of the trip is over with and now it’s time to spend a couple days relaxing with my parents. We left Chicago around 9am yesterday morning. I grabbed the fresh fruit from the back of my car and snacked on it for miles. I love spring because the grocery store’s produce is so fresh. I can’t imagine how great it’ll be down South. I’m so excited to go to the farmer’s markets! I’ve missed it so much!
A couple hours down the road, we were in Iowa! Although we had several hours to go, we were close! Every time I go by this house, I can’t help but stare. I love old houses full of history. It’s kind of creepy but beautiful at the same time.
Several miles up the road, I noticed a big cloud of smoke. It reminded me of the Hunger Games, Catching Fire! It’s about that time of year when the farmers get ready for crops. As I got closer, I could see where the smoke was coming from. Farmer’s were burning the brush in the fields. It was creepy driving under the tunnel of smoke and it freaked Grumples out.
I made it home around 1pm. Boy was I a happy camper. My mom picked me up a grilled chicken sandwich from Hy-vee and it was delicious. I had to take the top bun off because it was soggy with mayonnaise and I don’t like mayonnaise on sandwiches…ew. I like it in potato salad, coleslaw and macaroni salad but that’s about it. When I was little, my babysitter used to put it on my ham and cheese sandwiches and I would cringe trying to eat it.
My mom and Grumples sat on the couch like this for about an hour. It was the cutest thing! I left Grumples at home and headed over to Jeremy’s to unload the U-haul. We still have to go through some of the boxes today from our unit and see what we want to sell at the yard-sale in the summer. That should be fun. Call me crazy, but I love going through old stuff.
I got home around five and helped my mom make dinner. We sat outside while the chicken grilled and the veggies baked in the oven. It was really nice out. I was still exhausted from all the traveling and the lack of sleep, so I passed out around 8pm. I woke up this morning around 8am and felt so refreshed! I needed the sleep and it felt great. Today, I am going to make some baked goods and stop over at my Grandma’s house. Hopefully I’ll have a delicious recipe to share with you later!
Have a great Saturday, everyone!

I recently tried making these gluten-free chickpea peanut butter cookies. They were to die for so I thought you might want to give them a try!

Hi Taralynn!
I’m obsessed with your blog (not sure if I mentioned that in my other comment asking about the spaghetti squash). I was wondering… you may have already done a post like this, but, I love your posts about organization. I’d love, love, love, if when you get settled you could maybe take us through how you set up your cabinets/fridge ? 🙂 I can’t seem to get my cabinets together for the life of me. I also share with two other girls so I have a limited space to work with. Anyways, I’d love to hear your methods/trade secrets 😉
Thanks so much!
