Mozzarella sticks remind me of the days spent at the swimming pool as a kid. My mom would send me off to the pool with my friends and always gave me money to get lunch. Of course as a kid, I wasn’t going to buy a salad with that money. I went for the mozzarella sticks every time! Mozzarella sticks are okay in moderation, but should be a side item, not a meal replacement.
I still like to indulge every once in a while. I mean how do I say “no” when someone shoves a Sonic Mozzarella stick in my face? Easy, no! But, those cheesy, greasy, crunchy, fat-packers can’t be denied of great taste. A couple is fine every now and then, but if I ate the box everyday, I wouldn’t feel so great about myself. Healthy indulgences make me feel so much better physically. That is why I always create healthier versions of my favorite foods.
A couple nights ago, I made a pasta dish. (which I will be posting the recipe for soon) I made a salad and mozzarella sticks to go with it. The mozzarella sticks were to die for. The garlic really brought the flavor close to the real deal. The baked flax was super crispy and almost tasted fried! I highly recommend trying these out if you are a picky eater or have picky eaters for kids.
-Ten Tbsps. Golden Ground Flax
-Five Tbsps. Brown Ground Flax (Optional)
-Two Tbsps. Garlic & Onion Seasoning
-Five Ounces Polly-O Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese (1/3 of Block)
-Two Egg Whites
-Preheat Oven to 350 Degrees
-Grease a baking sheet.
-Slice 1/3 of the cube.
-Slice the 1/3 into four pieces.
-Slice each of those four pieces into five pieces.
-You will have a total of 20 slices.
-Crack the egg whites into a mixing bowl and whip for a minute with a fork. The foamy texture will help the egg stick to the mozzarella.
-Mix together the flax and seasoning. Pour onto a plate.
-Lather the mozzarella slice with egg whites and coat with the flax seed mixture.
-Add to Baking Sheet.
-I wanted to try these out with brown flax too. They worked perfectly. Using the brown flax is up to you. The flavor is not noticeable.
-Bake 12-14 minutes until crisp. The cheese will slightly sneak out, but if you let the mozzarella sticks cool on the pan, they will stay together.

This looks so great! Unfortunately, the Amish farm I get my cheese from didn’t have mozarella, so I tried colby. Not a good idea:(…..it turned into a big mess of cheese and flax seeds.
