I wanted to do a blog post to share everything I planted in my spring garden. I will have to update you in a few months when I take out my cut flowers, the tomatoes grow up the trellis, and I plant some of the fall seeds. The garden changes overnight with new blooms and growth. When planning my garden a few years ago, I loved looking at inspiration online, so I thought these photos could bring you a little garden inspiration if you plan on building something similar! Next year, I plan to double the garden beds for more produce and cut flowers. This year, I planted a ton more flowers. I loved how they looked growing in the beds between the tomatoes and peppers. Plus, they are amazing for pollinators.

I started my seeds back in February. The timing will depend on your region. Because I live in South Carolina, my spring comes a lot earlier than most. I also planted my tubers and bulbs. I usually get bulbs at local garden centers or online, but I decided to try out the Costco bags, which ended up AMAZING. Every single tuber and bulb bloomed incredibly. I cannot wait to invest in more of these for next year.

I put my seeds in my front guest room, where the sun is hot, and they grew so well. I always joke that I could make that a greenhouse because plants do so well there in the winter. After a few months, my seedlings were ready to be transferred.
What seeds did I plant in my 2024 garden?
42 tomato varieties
lettuce
peppers
onion
squash
watermelon
canteloupe
zucchini
jalapenos
herbs
lavender
lemon thyme
sage
rosemary
parsley
I plant more lettuce, carrots, broccoli, brussels sprouts, potatoes, squash, and pumpkin seeds in the fall!
I walk outside with my coffee every morning to take out some overnight weed popups, flick off some critters, and check out the new growth. What can change overnight with plants is unbelievable, especially after a rainy night.
My garden produced the most delicious lettuce, kale and spinach all winter and spring!
After a few months, my garden beds produced the most gorgeous cut flowers! I have ranunculus, daisies, roses, dahlias, lemon thyme, lavender, and zinnias!
I get much of my garden inspiration from Pinterest, The Garden Answer, and Gardenary! My previous garden tour post has more information about my gardening around the house.
The stunning color variety of my ranunculus is so fun to look at! I am in love with the yellow and pink ones. I didn’t even think yellow and orange ranunculus would pop up from the bags I planted.
I had to start zip tying my tomatoes to the trellis this past weekend because of how much they have grown.
The dahlias are thriving! I have been putting them in bouquets, and I put a few on my booth at the farmer’s market!
I keep flowers in pots around the beds for the bees and butterflies. I am also a sucker for cute pots when I see them at Homegoods! The verbena always does will in hot temperatures, and it comes back every year.
The lavender is doing so well in the pots this year, too.
I have a lot of swiss chard growing from the fall seeds, so I’ll need a few recipes since I’ve never cooked with it before. Let me know how you like to enjoy swiss chard!
We have had so much rain this spring, which has done wonders on the garden beds!
I used the lavender in these pots to make lavender ginger cookies.
Once I remove some ranunculus that are no longer blooming, I will move tomatoes to new spots. Some of the tomatoes in the beds are accidental. A few tomatoes that fell from the vine last fall and seeded in the dirt are growing so big!
I plan to stain the beds in the winter once all the plants have died. They are made of cedar, but have faded since they’re in full sun.
I planted a hollyhock a year ago, and it has finally decided to make an appearance. I can’t wait until this gorgeous one is blooming! I’m excited to see what color it is. That is why I’ll have to do monthly blogs on the garden updates. I share more on TikTok, too, if you want up-to-date content.
The Costco dahlias are the best I’ve ever grown. I have more in my front yard that are just now starting to grow. This bed’s soil is much better than the red dirt/sand soil we have for our other inground plants.
I would love to know what kind of plants and veggies you have growing in your spring garden!
I hope this post filled your garden vision with some inspiration! I’ll continue sharing photos as much as possible: ) I have a new recap blog, a few sourdough recipes, and a farmer’s market blog coming out soon!
I hope you have all been well!! xo
A bientôt
Emilie
We have 4 acres and just fenced in a few new areas for our garden this summer! We recently planted peppers, tomatoes, snap peas, cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, and squash. Last year our cucumbers, pumpkins and squash grew like crazy! We made some changes this year to improve the other fruits/veggies.
Random question! What stroller/infant car seat combo did you use when your son was a newborn? We are struggling with all the choices!
I love your garden! We just bought our first home last summer and are starting our first real garden right now. Do you mix in your cut flower plants and veggies in the same bed? And do you map out all of our plants ahead of of time or just sort of go for it? I feel like I normally see flowers and veggies separate, but I love the look of yours and flowers look to be doing great!
I love putting mine together! The flowers attract so many pollinators, and it just looks pretty 🙂 I plan a bit, but typically go for it.
I love swiss chard! You can eat it raw, as a wrap (cut the thicker stalk off like you would with collards), toss it in soups, or massage it like kale in a salad. I love it sauteed with shallots and sweet potatoes as a hash. You can eat both the stalk and leaf. Just store it upright in a jar with water like you would flowers or herbs or kale and it will stay fresh!
