Hi, Everyone! Welcome to the May recap 🙂
Having a two-year-old is the BEST (well, most of the time!) He’s so fun, and new adventures with him are some of the best days ever. I love seeing life through his eyes, and we have been enjoying the gorgeous weather this month. We wake up around 6:30 am each day to meet the sunrise for a walk. I pack his breakfast, and we set out on our three to four miles. He eats so much better when he’s out on a walk vs when he’s in his high chair. It’s a win for both of us. We just got through a two-week-long nap regression, but now that he’s FINALLY getting those naps in, I can take some time to hop on this computer and blog. I always say I’ll do it at night, but as soon as I put him down to sleep, I walk myself to bed and pass out! Between being a full-time mom and running Little Brittle, I’m just so tired at the end of the day. I miss blogging and have been pulled into hopping on here more. I have an hour before the little guy wakes up from his nap, so I will try to fill you in on a few things we’ve been up to in May!
May is when everything in the Garden pops off. I transferred all of my seedlings into the beds in late April, and since then, I’ve been producing so much lettuce, herbs, lavender, and kale! I’ve been living off salads and sourdough bread, and my tomatoes are just now starting to grow!
I have loved adding cold pasta and grilled chicken to my salads lately.
I’ve worked weekly doing wholesale for coffee shops and local stores, online orders, and market preparation. It’s a lot of work, but I do enjoy it! You can follow my Little Brittle adventures on my business Instagram!
We spend almost every hour outside in the mornings. From walks, parks, the pool, and trail walks! All this kid wants to do is be outside, and I love it!
Peonies I cut from the fielded area down in our woods!
I shared the story on Instagram but just in case you don’t have one,
For anyone who has ever struggled to grow peonies. (ME!!) I’ve tried many times. A few years ago, I gave up. I threw the “dead” bushes over my fence and never looked back. Last night, I was fetching a soccer ball for my son at the bottom of our fence line and noticed something pink in the woods. No way those were peonies…I sent a picture to the professional @fiveblossomsfarm to confirm what I was seeing! I put on the only boots I owned and marched my way down the snake-infested hillside to fetch those peonies! Now, do I just leave them to grow on the hillside forever? Or try to replant the bulbs in the fall
It’s crazy how plants do whatever they want!
We celebrated my son’s 2nd birthday at the beginning of the month! We invited my mom and dad over for tacos and cake! Time is going by way too fast.
It was time for the first farmer’s market of the season! I partnered up with my favorite, Five Blossoms Flower Farm, for the Mother’s Day cake and flower package and stopped by her farm to pick up the flower orders before the big day!
It’s so fun to be back at the market, but goodness, did I take my weekends off for granted! I love creating the menus, filling up the bakery case, and seeing everyone on Saturdays! I have even met a ton of you!
After the first farmer’s market of the season, I headed out to the Union Exchange to see some girlfriends and let our toddlers run around! This is one of our favorite spots.
And they make some of the BEST sandwiches!
When we visit, all my son wants to do is sit on the tractor!
And mornings are for all the pool dates! I’m so happy the pool is open again. As a mom, this is the best way to tire the kiddos out!
Another Saturday, another market! I try to document a lot of my market prep on TikTok! I have more videos to post on there.
Mother’s Day 🙂
We spent the morning adding topsoil to our grass and doing some garden work.
Rainy morning coffee date 🙂
After a crazy work week, we met with our friends for lunch at Sixty Vines in Charlotte. I had the BEST oat milk latte of my life. IT WAS SO GOOD that I ended up ordering another. It was smooth and rich. This spot was stunning, and the food was amazing.
Since we were already in a nap regression and knew he wouldn’t sleep, we decided to head to the museum for the afternoon to see the fish, play in the kid’s zone, and explore all the exhibits. He absotley LVOED it. We will definitely be going back!
One of our favorite little activities is adding water to shaved chalk and painting outside on the patio. It’s messy but washable!
We’ve been a big fan of charcuterie boards for lunch and dinner lately. Anything to get him to eat!
Someone got a new blow-up bounce house pool from Grandma and Grandpa for his birthday. It is THE BEST gift ever!!! Even I have so much fun playing in it during the hot afternoons.
We are still on our Ilios kick and get salads from them once a week. My son goes crazy for their chicken and rice!
Memorial Day weekend at the Farmer’s Market! 🙂
We are excited that peach season is back! My favorite thing after a market is sitting on the couch with a hot cup of coffee! I wake up at 3:00 am on those mornings, so I’m so exhausted by the time I get home and unpacked.
Summer nights call for late pool dates and lemon sorbet before dinner!
I love spending my mornings in the garden with my coffee! Each morning, I have to pin up some tomato plants that grow a foot overnight!
We finally headed out for our first date night in a long time! We did the garden cafe, and I ordered their fried chicken with white peppered gravy over mashed potatoes. It was EXACTLY what I wanted after a long market day! I can’t wait to recreate this recipe at home.
On Memorial Day, I went to see Back to Black with Becca. The movie was so good, and it made us cry at the end. I highly recommend watching it!
That night, I made fried chicken salads for the family!
It had lettuce, onions, tomatoes, avocados, chicken fried in bread crumbs and olive oil, shredded parmesan, cucumbers, and Caesar dressing.
I had been trying so hard to get this cutie to sleep in the afternoons. I took him out on our long walk, spent a few hours at the pool, took him to the park, and then let him do a mile trail walk before nap time. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn’t. I’d love to have some of his energy!
I hope you all have the BEST week, and I’ll be back soon with another recap. I went to see Hairspray yesterday and had the best lunch with my good girlfriend at Coquette for her birthday. I’m excited to share those photos!! Xo xo xo
