6 Calorie Apple Pie Meringues!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Good morning!

Before heading to church, I wanted to leave this recipe with you. I said I’d do it last night but couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough. I made these egg white meringues on Wednesday night to eat while watching Nashville. Have you ever had a night where you feel like eating everything in the house for no reason at all? I get those all the time, and that’s when I make meringues. You can eat the entire batch for under 150 calories. They have protein, no sugar or carbohydrates. You can make them in all flavors and shapes! I went the lazy route on these, but that doesn’t detract from their deliciousness! The recipe is super simple, and most people have all the ingredients in their homes anyway.

Enjoy!

Ingredients: 6 large egg whites, 1  teaspoon cream of tartar, 1 tablespoon apple pie spice, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1/3 cup baking stevia.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

In an electric mixer, beat the egg whites until foamy.

After the eggs are foamy, add the cream of tartar and continue beating at a high speed until the eggs are soft peaks. (like a meringue pie)

Slowly add the stevia, vanilla, and apple pie spice while the mixer runs at medium speed.

Grease your baking sheet with cooking spray and drop spoonfuls of the meringue onto it. I went the lazy route and just dropped them on there. If you want them fancy, use a piping gun.

Bake the meringues for 1 1/2 hours or until slightly crisp. If you don’t care for the crisp texture, you can bake them at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

  1. What if I don t have baking stevia? Is baking soda good and plus stevia separate?

    1. IF you don’t have baking stevia, I suppose you could use some other form of zero-calorie sweetener. But, try and use one that is all-natural:)

  2. I love “calorie” free ish foods like these I can eat in abundance and not worry about macros and portion control. 🙂 now I can eat the entire batch!

  3. These apple pie meringues seem like a dream come true! & like the perfect snack during a movie and TV show when its somewhat mindless. It’s nice having something to crunch on sometimes and these meringues seem like the perfect way to get that satisfaction without also getting an overload of calories! Thanks for sharing, Taralynn:-)

  4. Can you use the boxed all egg whites?

Can you use egg whites from a carton? Or do they need to come from actual eggs?

Hello – These look so good! This recipe was published a while ago. Is there any sweetener that’s out now that can replace baking stevia?

    Thank you!
