Free Frosted Jelly Donuts!
Some days I have great luck but this morning was not one of those days. I was up almost every hour last night with Grumples. He wasn’t feeling too great and had to keep going outside for the bathroom. I slept by the door to make sure I could hear him. I called the vet this morning to make sure it wasn’t anything too serious. I won’t get into details because you might be enjoying your breakfast while reading this post. She said to keep and eye on him, keep him rested, hydrated, and don’t let him eat anything of 24 hours. She wanted his stomach to take a break. I was happy to hear that what he was going through is most likely minor, but I still wanted to do everything she told me to do.
We have the same morning routine. We wake up, go walk, and I come back to have my coffee and feed him. This morning, I felt so bad because he just stared at me as if I forgot him 🙁 I took him out again to make sure he didn’t have to go to the bathroom. As we were walking around the complex, he pulled me towards the bushes. I didn’t think anything of it. I thought he just found a nice juicy spot to pee. Nope…he yanked his head so far into those pushes and when I pulled him out, he had a giant frosted jelly filled donut in his mouth. Honestly…how does that happen? And what kind of idiot throws away a perfectly delicious donut. I did the nasty thing and clinched the sides of his mouth to open it up and grab the donut out. We spent about two minutes fighting over the donut. I pulled about half of it out and launched it across the street so he couldn’t get it. My hands were covered in red jelly, frosting and crispy donut crumbs. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m whack. So his starvation diet failed and now I’m making sure he doesn’t get sicker from the donut. Someone please tell me your life gets a little crazy sometimes and it’s not just me!
Anyways…
After washing off the jelly donut and cleaning off my dog’s mouth, I made myself some breakfast! I scrambled up two large eggs with two turkey sausage links. I had sliced peaches, a mini bagel and cream cheese on the side!
I will be cooking up a storm this weekend! What kind of recipes would you like to see on my blog!?

Ugh, poor baby. Hopefully the 1/2 doughnut won’t make him feel worse!
can you post something healthy involving dark chocolate?
I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog! I read every day but rarely comment. Thanks for being so honest and inspiring.
I second that Megan! Simply, Taralynn is a daily read for me. Thanks for all of your hard work and inspiration! Absolutely love your blog!
Haha I agree with both of you! I wake up and read this blog every morning with my coffee 🙂 Love ya Taralynn!
I totally can relate to how you are feeling right now. We had to travel out of town yesterday for a funeral and I ended up at the vet at 7:30 this AM with my dog because he had a nasty tick in his ear then my second dog got out of my parents yard and took a roll in the mud! Life is too crazy sometimes. Also I’m inferring your dogs symptoms but be careful he doesn’t have giardia. Our little pup had it this past summer and it was the same for him. I noticed you’ve been at a lot of dog parks (and the water park) and that’s how dogs can pick it up really easily. It’s easy to treat with some meds and is detected by a stool sample but symptoms don’t stop till you treat it. I hope sweet Grumples feels better!!
I would like to see some vegan/veggie based recipes. I just completed a 3 day “detox and cleanse” which was essentially a vegan diet using all whole foods (and it included a lot of food!) and I’m down 6 pounds! I would like to start revolving my meal plans around veggies as opposed to meat and fish.
Awe I hope grumbles is feeling better soon!
My boyfriend bought two HUGE containers of chocolate protein powder – anyway you can give us a low carb waffle/pancake recipe using protein powder as a sub for flour?
Thanks!
Our vet says to feed our dog rice with cooked ground beef (add no seasoning) when his stomach is upset. It helps to settle him and keeps him nourished.
Poor pup! I find the rice helps settle tummies and cottage cheese. My vet suggested pumpkin for our boy who had basically chronic diarrhea for almost a year after moving into our house! It was awful we had a 3 month old baby at when it started so we got up about the same amount as you but for months!
It’s my fiancé birthday on Monday and I want to bake him either a yummy breakfast like muffins or scones or a cake for dessert! I would like them.to be as healthy as possible, any suggestions?
Oh no! poor guy I hope he feels better. It seems like you’re not too far from me. I’m in Rock Hill there’s a couple great farmers markets around. And I work at the Petsmart in the grooming salon. I would love to meet Grumps!
Hi Taralynn!
I have the biggest sweet tooth and love to try out healthy recipes (yours are great!). Unfortunately, whenever I bake, I feel like I have temptation all around the house. Sometimes, I just want one cookie or brownie to satisfy that craving!
If you could do a some healthy single serving (or recipes for two) desserts that would be amazing! I love cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cheesecake, you name it!
Our vet always reccomends canned pumpkin for a dog when it has diarrhea. But your vet still knows best. On a positive at least Mr.G still has an feels like eating and drinking. Otherwise it would be more concerning. Take care!!
OMG your poor furbaby! It’s the worst when your dog gets sick. When my dog gets sick, all I have to do is look into his sad eyes and feel my heart break.
I laughed when I read your account on Grumples vs the jelly donut. I have similar accounts with my dog, except he likes far grosser things, like these flattened squirrels he once found in the middle of the road. Imagine wrestling *that*! I was almost in tears when he wouldn’t give it up despite how many times I begged him to “Drop it!” More recently, he had a dead bird – oh that was fun. But nothing brings me more happiness than when he picks up poop bags. Ew, ew, ew.
But alas, all in a dog parent’s life. 🙂
I would love to see a recipe using Flaxseed Meal! I just bought Flaxseed meal, almond flour, chia seeds, and gluten free flour (by Premium Gold – I actually just noticed you use the same brand). I have no idea what to concoct using the flaxseed meal and the chia seeds. I’ve nailed a delicious almond meal banana bread that I can’t stop eating, but help with ground flaxseed!
Healthy easy lunch meals that can be pre made at the beginning of the week!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
I love your blog- its also a daily read for me !!
Poor Grumples! Hope he gets well soon! As for the question on recipes, I’m always looking for ways to add more protein to my meals, so I’d love to see something protein loaded 🙂
Poor baby! I’m sure he will be totally ok but so stressful 🙁 I hope he gets better asap!
Here in Australia we are going into winter; I would love to see some soups and chili recipes that you relied on over your long winter 🙂
I just went through weeks of a sick puppy. We did a 12 hour fast and then slowly started giving white rice. Eventually we added boiled low fat turkey burger. Then we finally were able to add in a prescription kibble (Purina DCO). She also had to have a dewormer and another parasite medicine even though her fecal exams were coming back negative. Since you’ve moved to a new area you might want to do a dewormer and have him checked for Giardia, just as precaution.
It is very hard when they have upset stomach and you have to fast them. I had to do it with my dogs and int broke my heart. But ultimately it is the best thing for them. I am a vet tech and we see it all the time and if our clients don’t listen and feed them especially if they get people food it can set them up to get some nasty diseases later in their life. Hope he is feeling better.
It’s always stressful when a pet gets sick because they can’t tell you what’s wrong or what they want, so I hope Grumples gets better soon!!
I’d love to see some single serving desserts or easy ones that could be made in a dorm room/microwave!
Never mind. If you live with animals it is always a bit crazy.
Once our dog had to take pills and because he didn’t like to take pills very much the vet gave us special pills with the taste of liverwurst. Of course he did not swallow the pills at all, but the cat was so excited about the liverwurst tasting pills, that she almost ate the whole package over night. And that is just one story of living with cats and daogs. 😉
Hope Grumples is feeling better soon!
Greetings from Germany,
Cathy
I just lol’d real hard picturing you guys fighting over a donut. Good job getting half back, my dog would’ve took my hand with it! haha
I’d love to see some quick recipes that require 5 ingredients or less – it’s always hard to try a bunch of new recipes while being budget conscious!
I have been following your posts for about a year now, but I haven’t commented yet. I just love your recipes and your sense of humor! I had a lot of success using a lot of your tips for eating out and such after I had my baby (she is now 18months old and I have a three year old). I just wanted to tell you that you are so cute about Grumples. I love the posts about him! You are just like I was when I got my English Mastiff, Brutus. You cracked me up with this post! Life definitely gets crazy around here with two mastiffs and two toddlers, and we move a lot too (though not as frequently as you do, I have moved three times in four years). Anyway.. Life only gets crazier with stories like this when you have kids. I hope you are still blogging when that day comes for you because I am sure your stories will be really fun to read. I hope he is better now as it is never fun to see your fur babies sick. Take care <3
This just made my day!:) Thanks, Kimberly!
