Last night I had the opportunity to check out the newly designed women’s section at Dick Sporting Goods® thanks to Vocalpoint and Dick’s Sporting Goods®. Although this is a sponsored post, all opinions are my own. The newly designed women’s section was like heaven. They have different styles of clothing and brands to help you get through the day easily and comfortably.
The women’s section took over half of the store and I was so overwhelmed as to where to start.
I love running, walking and hiking followed by coffee dates or lunch dates with my friends. I look for clothing that I can wear straight from workout to coffee shop. Not only do I like clothes that are comfortable to workout in, I like workout clothes that are comfortable to hang out in. I wear workout clothes 75% of the time. Sometimes I’ll pair a nice shirt with workout leggings or wear a workout shirt with jeans.
Sometimes you can even find workout clothes that you can also wear to the office like this really cute cozy sweater. I like the way the mannequin has the scarf paired with it. It doesn’t even look like a workout top, but it’s stretchy, soft, and perfect for yoga or a chilly morning run.
I browsed all around the store looking for items that I can wear on my hikes and running. I also wanted clothes that were appropriate to wear into a grocery store or out for brunch.
Running leggings are my favorite and Dick’s Sporting Goods has a huge selection. I had a hard time choosing which pair I wanted, but decided to stick to black and white ones because they go well with so many other colors. You could probably get away with wearing these pants to the office with cute shoes and a white sweater. That way you can change your shoes, throw on a top and be gym ready in no time. Dick’s Sporting Goods has a lot of basics and I love those because you can pair them with basically anything. The top I have on works great with running leggings or with cute Khaki’s for my golf outings in the spring. Speaking of golf, their women’s golf section has a lot of cute skirts, shorts, and polos for work.
I am a bargain shopper, so the sales racks are my best friends. Dick’s Sporting Goods had a sales rack every ten feet. All of my favorite brands were hanging up and marked as half off. I love variety.
They had tons of dressing rooms so I didn’t have to wait. I was really surprised at some of the new brands they had in the store. I tried on things I normally wouldn’t and ended up loving them. One of the employees helped me pick out some outfits. I love that they offer so many different styles and not exclusively for “fitness” bodies. I love to workout, but I’m nowhere near perfect and somethings I leave on the shelf! They have clothing for every body type.
Weekend outfits are my favorite.
This is definitely my casual weekend/errands look. I’m always rocking comfortable sweats/leggings on Saturdays while I’m out and about. Even when I’m not out and about, this is what you’d find me in. If I’m really lucky, I’ll have nothing planned for a Saturday night so I can stay in this outfit all night and watch movies. If you don’t dress like this for a Saturday matinée movie, you’re missing out!
This is a great sweater for this time of year because it jumps between chilly and warm. You can hide a shirt underneath and wrap the sweatshirt around your waste. The sweater is also a perfect example of shirts that look great with jeans, making it flexible for any casual activity. I headed over to have coffee with my dad this morning and this was the perfect sweater to keep me warm in the chilly morning air. I also take advantage of their neighborhood for running.
This weekend I’ll be running with my friend Anthony followed by a stop at the juice bar! You better believe I’ll be wearing my new workout clothes!
Now, I will be choosing one of my readers to win a $50.00 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods so you can go check out the new women’s department and find an awesome outfit for yourself!
How to enter: Leave a comment describing your ideal outfit that you can also wear to brunch, at the office, or out running errands after a workout.
Kelli Jennings says
My ideal outfit is black full length compression leggings with a good sports bra and a looser fitting tank top, paired with my favorite mint green nike shoes. I am always cold, due to a blood circulation disorder so I’d add a comfy colored zippy jacket and an infinity scarf.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds just like my ideal outfit (but with asics) & i’m ALWAYS cold too (anemic) so I add layers like you! Although, I just bought new Nikes today to rock 😀
Heather Mesa says
I love compression leggings to just below the knee with a loose tank top with a fun saying! I have a few favs- “Hustle for the Muscle” and “Texting is My Cardio”. I feel good about myself in these outfits as well as motivated to stay on track…. Hard to order unhealthy food when dressed in this ‘gear’ 🙂
Allie S. says
I really can’t wear work attire to my work. I do, however, wear it everywhere else. I like sweaters and leggings and will wear them until die. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol me too!
Maggie says

Taralynn McNitt says
can’t go wrong with big sweatshirts !
Jackie says
Such cute stuff!! I’m always in workout gear! I love full or cropped running pants and a loose top with fun cutouts, like in the back, with a cute bra underneath.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds adorable!
Cortni says
My ideal outfit is black leggings, a white tee and I’ll throw on a flannel or my army green jacket!!
Taralynn McNitt says
cute!
Kelsi Noeth says
I love nikes and workout capris! I sometimes wear full length workout leggings out as well. 🙂 I try to pair it with a loose, cute shirt or a quarter zip when I go running!
Taralynn McNitt says
very cute!
Bennie says
I tend to stick with solid black leggings or spandex. I’ve got hips so I try to camoflage them and wear a slightly longer t-shirt or wind-breaker. It’s not exactly for my office though so strictly for the gym and errands, etc.
Taralynn McNitt says
Love that idea.
Alyssa says
My ideal outfit is leggings that are long enough for my long legs and a cute long sleeve sweater/shirt a lot like the flowy ones you said you like to wear to coffee. I love colors and patterns and layers! 🙂 love your blog!
Taralynn McNitt says
I also love colorful and patterned items! 🙂 Thanks so much for the kind words! xo
christina says
My ideal outfit is a pair of lululemons, a fleece jacket, and my nikes. Comfort to the max!
Taralynn McNitt says
love lulu lemons!
Kourtni says
Hi Taralynn!
My ideal outfit, I would like to lie and say black leggings as they go with any type of type and would be great to use as a multipurpose for all occasions, but I’m actually a wild, multi colored, pattern lover of workout leggings. They make the workout more fun in my mind. I would pair the fun leggings with solid colored tops. And I LOVE Pastel or neon colors, so a fun pair of running shoes of bright colors would be ideal too! It might be too bright to wear to my office, but I’d hands down wear it for errands proudly 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Sounds super cute!!
Hillary Danielle says
My ideal outfit is something that isn’t too fitted, such as that cute workout sweater you had on in the one pic, that I could maybe even just throw on over top of a workout tank or something. Being able to be comfortable, and not feel embarrassed that I’m out in public in workout clothes (I know I’m a bit weird over that sort of thing). The clothes you posted are perfect! They meet my needs for the workout portion of things, but then they also don’t look like I just came from a sweaty workout.
So to sum it up, my ideal outfit would be a pair of simple workout leggings, and a workout sweater that I can either wear DURING my workout or throw over top right after that would go well with my sneakers (usually running shoes).
Taralynn McNitt says
I don’t like fitted tops at all! Pants don’t bother me. TYour ideal outfit sounds great!
Holly Danielson says
My ideal outfit would be black capri leggings with a long sweater or hooded top that covers my butt paired with sneakers and hair up. I live in scarves so I could always toss one on in the mix.
Taralynn McNitt says
Sounds so cute!
Lauren says
I am a teacher so I’m constantly moving all day so wearing many layers is key. My ideal outfit would be black leggings (ones I can wear with boots) and a looser sweater or shirt top with a scarf. I always dress comfy chic at work that way once I leave I am ready to go to a yoga class or meet friends for dinner!
I love Dicks! I was just there the other day and was amazed at all th amazing things they had!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Dicks is dangerous! Always spending my money in there!!
Stephany says
Black leggings and a colorful, loose top are always a good go to.
Taralynn McNitt says
sounds perfect to me!
Danielle K says
My ideal outfit is a pair of colorful leggings, and a comfy t shirt or long sleeved shirt with my hot pink Nike sneakers! I love wearing crazy colors to workout because it makes it more fun and enjoyable! Dicks is amazing and I would LOVE that gift card! 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Love that! i NEED SOME PINK NIKES NOW!
Mallory Sloniker says
My ideal outfit is a cute pattern of running crops with an over sized sweater or sweatshirt . I’m a firm believer that sweatshirts can be stylish too! Also a cute pair of shades and running shoes always make an outfit more stylist. I love running crops better than regular yoga pants for everyday wear
Taralynn McNitt says
Love sweatshirts. Especially for the casual look.
Elizabeth Segarra says
My ideal outfit is black leggings & my bright white Asics. I recently got a pair of Under Armor leggings from Dicks & they’re my new favorite. I like wearing an oversized sweatshirt on top, nothing too fancy for the weekends. I’m still looking for the perfect sports bra, so maybe I could check them out at Dicks. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes they have a huge selection!
Katie M. says
My ideal outfit is something loose-fitting on top, flattering on bottom, but ultimately comfortable all over! I love a cozy scarf when it’s chilly, too.
Taralynn McNitt says
comfortable is key!
Sarah says
My ideal outfit is a comfortable sports bra that I can wear under my clothes that is also supportive and with a cute and colorful pattern. I’d also want to wear a loose fitting neon pink top and black and white striped workout leggings. Im a medical school student and I work out right after class every day so I’d like an outfit that I could wear comfortably to lecture and then go workout in, and then head back to the library to study in!
Taralynn McNitt says
i love when I find the PERFECT sports bra. It lasts for like years! You must have a pretty crazy schedule!
Ricky says
You look awesome
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you!
rebecca melton says
Black yoga leggings and plain cotton tshirt!
Taralynn McNitt says
perfect!
Kayla Pinto says
I love a light weight long sleeve or short sleeve flowy top with a super comfy sports bra and full length leggings. I’m typically a fan of light soft fabrics even in the winter. I’d also carry a light weight jacket in the cooler months!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love the light jackets in the spring!
Katelyn says
I also tend to wear black long compression legging, a cute sports bra, a semi fitted but longer length tank top or tshirt. I always bring a hoodie/pullover or jacket in fun colors and some colorful Nikes. I am a freeze baby so always bring layers! I love what you picked out!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you & i’m also a freeeeeze baby!
Morgan Swift says
My perfect outfit definitely consists of brightly patterned leggings! I have pink Brooks running shoes so matching those is a must. I’m a college student so a loose, comfy top is perfect for a day when I am heading to the gym right after a lecture class! I just love bold colors and always have on a workout headband too.
Taralynn McNitt says
Bright patterned leggins for the win!
Jenna says
My idea outfit are leggings with a good sports bra and looser t-shirt, along with a nice jacket since I’m always cold. And of course, tennis shoes!
I want to point out your ring-I love it and it’s so pretty! Is it new? 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Just an opal bday gift 🙂
Love your ideal outfit!
Madison DeArman says
Black capri leggings and a (less subtle) printed tank top with a solid colored half zip jacket paired with some black Nike’s?
Taralynn McNitt says
I’m officially on the black nike train!
Beth says
My ideal outfit is definitely leggings with a long tank top and a pullover half zip top and sneakers. I’m like you- I like to go from the gym to meet friends or vice versa, so I like flexibility. I usually like black and grey because it’s neutral and easy to mix and match! I always keep a few different scarves in my car to throw on quickly and dress up whatever I have on. If it’s cold, I add a puffer vest! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Love puffer vests!
Morgan S says
I could live in work out clothing! I tend to wear leggings so much that if/when I wear jeans someone always says something! My perfect outfit would be leggings and a comfy long sleeve shirt, long sleeves are the best! I am currently on the hunt for a great neutral pullover sweatshirt, one that I could get away with wearing to work! Nike has so many great options this time of year, it makes it so hard to choice one!
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree. LONG SLEEVES AND LEGGINGS! I actually hate shorts in the summer for running.
Alanah R says
Love finding fun leggings that also repel dog hair (you understand the struggle I’m sure!). Ideally pair that with a colorful sports bra and basic black pullover to hide my sweat.
Taralynn McNitt says
Luckily Grumples doesn’t shed but Tino is another story…….
Jennifer says
My ideal outfit would have to be black leggings with a muscle tank & a loose fitted sweatshirt or pullover to throw over to keep warm. Then i would pick a pair of nikes from my shoe collection to match my outfit. Always need a pair of shoes to match right, at least that’s what I say when shopping ?! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Shoes should never be questioned….;)
Tori Farber says
I would love a cute pair of running capris leggings. I would choose a basic black or grey that way I can pair it with different colored shirts or sweaters. I also like more flowy or loose tops since leggings are tight. I would love a loose sweater to throw on before or after my workout. I also love hiking and my boyfriend just moved to California ( I won’t be moving to Charlotte anymore ;( ) but California also has some awesome hiking spots! I’m excited that I will be able to workout outside all year! In addition to basic colors I also love colorful workout clothes. Workout clothes help motivate me to workout. I am also like you, I love to wear workout clothes on the weekend. To go with the workout clothes I would love to have a matching pair of comfy tennis shoes! This is an awesome opportunity. Thanks for sharing <3
Taralynn McNitt says
California sounds amazing! Hoping I can make a trip there soon to hike and eat at all the juice bars, hang out on the beach and live the CALI life for a week! 🙂 #dreamingbig
Natasha says
I love running on my lunch break, but don’t always have time to change completely! The black and white compression leggings your wearing would be a perfect transitional piece. I could wear a coral long sleeve, light scarf, and knee high leather boots in the office. And then, when it’s time to run, I could switch my boots for running shoes, ditch the scarf, and head on my way!! Since I carry my weight in my legs, I typically go for neutral colored bottoms, and bright tops.
Taralynn McNitt says
That is so awesome you take your lunch break and dedicate it to fitness!
Ashley says
My perfect work out outfit is lots of layers. I love a funky printed tank paired w classic black running leggings. I’m always cold so I love to layer over sized sweatshirts and long sleeve ts over my tank. Perfect way to transition to a coffee date or lunch after your work out!
Taralynn McNitt says
I have like ten pairs of black leggings…you can’t ever have enough…
Ellen Musialowski says
My ideal transitional outfit would be a pair of fun patterned leggings with a solid colored workout t-shirt. Since I live in Buffalo, a 1/4 zip fleece will keep me warm while I dash in and out of stores running errands after I workout!
Taralynn McNitt says
Fleece must be your best friend right now! Stay warm!
Jessica @ Semi-Sweet Tooth says
Love it! I’m obsessed with the bright colors and fun prints everywhere right now! 🙂
My ideal outfit includes a loose fitting long sleeve (with thumb holes, because I’m a big dreamer…) and incredibly cozy capri leggings. I would also likely wear my said dream outfit for approximately 14 days in a row. Ha!
Taralynn McNitt says
Sounds like my ideal outfit as well. I wear that almost everyday…:D
Kayla says
Brunch is my favorite thing ever. So with that being said I would wear a loose sweater with a crisscross back, skinny jeans, and white Adidas superstars. And since I’m braid obsessed, my hair with some kind of braid in it. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
You sound way too fabulous. I need to learn how to braid my own hair better!
Jacqueline Arcuri says
My ideal outfit is a fun-patterned pant with a fitted tank. I love to throw a comfy zip-up or sweater over it. I’m an a avid runner (just completed my first marathon in November!) so I like clothes that I can run in but easily grab a coffee in after!
Thanks girl:)
Taralynn McNitt says
Fun patterned pants are everything right now. Congrats on the first marathon. I have a half in the fall! Are you doing anymore?
Jacqueline Arcuri says
Thank you<3 Good luck on your half! My first marathon was this past year in NYC (totally recommend), and I plan on running the Disney marathon in January 2017. 🙂 I'm so excited to start seriously training again.
Lisa A. says
Taralynn, You’re looking fabulous in these pics! Even though I read your blog all the time, I usually never enter these giveaways but this one just called my name. I am running my first 1/2 marathon in April and was just thinking about what I should wear for it (yes I’m nervous ;).)
My ideal workout outfit would definitely consist of pants and long sleeves. For starters, I live in the east coast and I’m sure you know it gets cold here so the outfit would definitely need to keep me warm. I’d love a pair of cute leggings with a long sleeved top, such as a pullover, that I can just add a few accessories to dress it up. I’d probably stick with basic black and white pants like you did, and add a colorful top for a pop of color. If I was going to work or brunch, I’d just add some sunglasses, scarf, or jewelry to fancy it up a bit.
Ahhh cute, comfy clothes really are my favorite. I hope I win! 🙂
Lisa A. says
Did my comment go through? I’ve never commented before so I’m not sure! :/
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Lisa!!!
Congrats on your half and good luck! I’m running my first in the fall (if i don’t get injured) Shopping has to be the funnest part!
Love adding a necklace to my outfit after a workout to head out to brunch!
xo
Heather Talbert says
My go to outfit is a compression crop with a thin strap sports bra and a tank! I wear workout clothes about 90% of the time, they are so comfy. ! I just had my third (and last) child 5 weeks ago so I will take any chance I get to workout…..even if it’s 5 minutes!
Taralynn McNitt says
I basically live in them too! Congrats on your babies! Three is a great number and workout clothes are everything.
Andrea D. says
For me it’s all about layers! I love to have a tank or sleeveless top underneath and then a cute jacket or hoodie on top. Yoga pants are a must. I love all of the colorful ones. Oh and a really good sports bra is a MUST!
Taralynn McNitt says
Love yoga pants and colorful ones too!
Jennifer says
I love workout leggings! I like to wear them daily even to the office, because you can pair plain black ones with just about any top. Pair those with tall riding boots and no one would even know you’re wearing workout pants! Sitting at a desk all day… comfy clothes are a must! I also am loving the idea of their workout sweaters being worn to the office too… I’d definitely be taking advantage of that. I don’t have any shirt/top pieces that I can workout in AND go to work in.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes! Boots and leggings go perfect with each other. You can always hide your workout tanks under your work sweaters!
Ali says
My ideal outfit definitely starts with the shoes! I’m obsessed with Nike frees. They’re so comfy and always have the best colors. I wear mine to work all the time because I’m constantly on my feet running around! Maybe paired with some cute cheetah print leggings and a comfy half zip pullover!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love the frees too!
Kelly M says
I’ve recently also fallen in love with wearing workout clothes everywhere. I just got full length leggings and am DYING to get more. Even though my legs aren’t the body part I love most, I feel like they look so much better in workout leggings! That’s what I would get since I clearly need more. When you think you look good, you automatically feel good right? Haha
Taralynn McNitt says
Definitely and wearing workout clothes in public is officially 100% acceptable.
Angela E. says
My ideal outfit is some comfy running shorts with a v-neck workout top. It’s not necessarily office approved but it’s still great for running errands or going to a casual restaurant 🙂 also, I would love anything in Carrie Underwood’s new line!
Taralynn McNitt says
She has a new line?! Obsessed with Kate Hudson’s over here…
Nadine says
Definitely colored statement crop leggings and a cute bold color sweater with loose tank and sports bra! And can’t forget my nikes! Something I can wear out shop around in and later down for the gym! I used to wear black and grey all the time, im finally busting into the color spectrum after losing 25 lbs!
Taralynn McNitt says
Nice job on the weight loss!! you go girl!
Emily says
Taralynn I spy a ring!!!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Don’t get too excited 🙂 It’s an opal ring that i got for my birthday 😉
Rebekah Baggerly says
Was just about to ask about the ring! I definitely got too excited
Colleen says
I got excited too! It’s on the left hand after all 😉
Sarah says
I’m a runner currently training for my 3rd half and mighhhttt be jumping on the crazy train for a FULL marathon in the fall!! My ideal outfit gets me through my long runs with my group, then to the local coffee shop after. Practical running leggings (10 miles is a long way with loose clothing where it should NOT be), an under armor wicking cold gear top (these actually work like their supposed #upstateny #brrr), a wind proof vest, smartwool socks & my trusty Brooks. Trade out the vest if I’m too cold and throw on a cute sweatshirt material type top for coffee after the run. Best part about Sunday-Runday is getting the outfit right; comfy, practical, warm and cute! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Nice job on all the training! You must bundle up and I don’t know how you continue to run in the cold upstate! I QUIT while I was up there lol.
Sarah says
This past weekend … -25 … that I had to hit the treadmill for, having a running group really makes all the difference! Next time you’re up here you should join us – we run all around the Albany/Schenectady area!
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds great!!:)
Sarah says
It’s the local Fleet Feet store, super easy to remember 🙂
Danielle says
It depends on the season here in Michigan, but during winter you’ll usually find me in my running leggings or capris with a sweater and scarf! Love, love, love layering! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Oh I know how Michigan gets! Layering is EVERYTHING there!
Angela Bursch says
I live in Ohio and it can get very cold. I like to wear a nice jacket, long sleeved shirt (but lightweight material) with some long pants and comfy shoes. But when it is warmer, I like a short sleeved top and shorts. Thank you for this chance, Taralynn!
Meghan says
Black leggings are a must, because when I’m done working out I can take my hair out of my ponytail, throw on a denim jacket and quickly change into my “street” shoes and look presentable in public if I want to pick up dinner on the way home or something. I’ve been known to squeeze a visit to the gym after work and between meeting friends for drinks or whatever, so I have mastered the gym-to-street style.
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree. They are a must and I have way too many pairs! (too many isn’t a thing) 😉 Nice job on mastering the gym-to-street style!
Sophie says
Is that an engagement ring?? ?
Taralynn McNitt says
no no no no no lol It’s my opal ring I got from my aunt for my birthday! 🙂
Emily says
I was wondering the same thing!
Kate says
Patterned yoga pants (the more color the better) with a coordinating cross back top, and a pair of coordinating Asics! Perfect for a trip to Crowders Mountain, quick run in South End or a trip to my all time favorites, Trader Joe’s or Luna’s! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I think you just described my life 😀
Emily Rath says
My ideal outfit would be a looser-fitting sweater or long sleeve shirt, similar to your pictures! I love classic black leggings and bright sneakers! I also love anything light and fleece for the winter!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love bright shoes too and that is why I love asics! (other than they are they best for my running style)
I was just there the other day and was amazed at all th amazing things they had!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s literally like fitness wonderland! 🙂 I also love boots with leggingss.
Kate says
Ooh! I LOVE lounge/exercise clothes. Unfortunately, I have to get dressed up for work. My ideal outfit is long black leggings with a long flowy top and sneaks for running errands.
Taralynn McNitt says
Flowy tops are everything!
Deanna says
I love crop leggings with colorful patterns and bright colored, light-weight tops. Also, a really sturdy sports bra to keep everything from flopping around lol! Love Under Armour sports bras. And colorful shoes of course! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes for colorful shoes!!
Olivia pollard says
Cute sneaks that I haven’t dirtied up yet, leggings, and I’m loving the tops with the cut out across the upper back
And shoulders! Don’t have one yet- perfect way to display a cute sports bra!
Taralynn McNitt says
My sneaks always go through a beating! Have you ever seen fable tics? they have a lot of peekaboo backs for the sports bras! & the striped sports bras at Dicks are sooooooooooo cute.
Lisa says
I usually like black leggings or black with some white design, and the criss-cross back yoga tops with black and white nikes.
Taralynn McNitt says
Just bought some black and white nikes this morning!
Alyssa says
I love a pair of comfy (non see through!) black leggings, black Nikes, a cute sports bra with strap detail on the back and a nice colorful sweat shirt with a little bit of a lower cut back to show off the cute sports bra! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
So cute!
Julia g. says
I love workout leggings in neutral colors that can be paired with cardigans for a versatile look in any situation! Love Dick’s women’s sporting goods section!
Taralynn McNitt says
Cardigans are so underrated. Perfect to go over the cute workout tops!
Shannon says
I love to run/walk early and then go to brunch. So I like workout leggings, usually with a pattern. I love tank tops and of course a jacket or a cute pullover. I’m addicted to Brooks running shoes in any color. So I love outfits that are versatile and comfortable.
Taralynn McNitt says
Versatile is key! I’ve never tried the brooks shoes yet.
Amanda Jessen says
I love LOUD leggings, whether they’re pants or Capris paired with a solid matching colored top. Dick’s carries Moving Comfort brand sports bras as well, which are my go to for daily wear! Throw in colorful sneakers or even flip flops and I’m sold!
I love that Grey long back sweater you got! Might need to get me one!
Taralynn McNitt says
me too with a solid top! Isn’t that so cute?! SALE RACK TOO!!
Kyla says
Oh my goodness! So many cute clothes! I love all the outfits you showed us! I certainly love workout leggings, especially basic colors that I can wear everywhere! For tops, I love the pops of color. Black leggings would look cute under a skirt and blouse (or tank top with a sweater over) with some boots, and then after work, you can dress it back down to be able to work out in!
I can’t wait to check out Dick’s Sporting Goods this weekend! Time for new clothes to get ready for Spring! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks kyla!
You’ll fall in love with the new department!!
Kathryn says
I loved this article! As someone who just got back in the habit of working out I try to motivate myself by rewarding myself with new workout clothes when I am sticking with it! I have been meaning to go by Dicks Sporting Goods soon to check out the Calia by Carrie collection. I’m lucky to be able to wear workout clothes to work. This not only allows me to go straight from work to the gym but also means that my workout look must look “put together”. My ideal workout outfit would condition of black yoga pants (currently loving the ones with mesh cut outs) and a flowy shirt for comfortability. If the shirt has a low back I try to add my own flare with a printed sports bra or use my shoes and water bottle to add a more colorful touch.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kathryn!
I also reward myself with new clothes and for some reason, i workout more when I get new clothes. Your outfit choice sounds great!
Kendall McKee says
Since I’m in college, I’m always having to manage my time well between going to class and working out, but I struggle because I want to look nice for class but also wear my workout clothes so I can go straight to the gym. So I really love the looks you showed!
My ideal outfit would be black leggings paired with a colorful sports bra with a light blue loose pullover on top. And then some black nikes to finish the look! I think that would be perfect for being comfy/casual in class, and then gym ready! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I lived in my workout clothes my first year of college. I used to walk to school and back. I also just got some black nikes!!
Samantha says
This is a great post! I love Dick’s Sporting Goods. I appreciate they contacted you to do a review and giveaway! I love that they are branching out with the brands they carry. My ideal outfit is a fun pair of leggings (colored or patterned) to wear with a more neutral, looser long sleeve top and strappy sports bra. That way I can go from yoga/barre/figure skating to brunch with my girls.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! You can’t go wrong with a patterned legging. I used to figure skate but quit in 4th grade. I miss it!
Julie says
My ideal outfit is a print, fun print legging with either a dry fit shirt or pullover depending on the weather. Can’t forget my Brooks running shoes as well! Have to be comfortable for half marathon training! I especially love the pullover after when it’s chilly out to hang with friends or family. 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I love the post-workout pullover too! Good luck on training! I’m doing the same 🙂
Chelsea @ Chelsea Be Healthy says
I absolutely LOVE those and white leggings you have! I’m also wearing workout clothes pretty much all day every day so I’m always on the lookout for cute bright colors to add! My ideal outfit would include some sort of leggings I can pair with semi-sporty/casual top that I can wear straight from the gym to run around town in! And the more color the better in my opinion! 🙂 Dicks Sporting Goods is the best!!
Chelsea @ Chelsea Be Healthy says
Ooops! Black and white** Typos love me! 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Chelsea!
I agree! The more color, the better!

During this time of year I love neutrals and olive greens. My go to errands/campus workout outfit would be black leggings with cool mesh cutouts at the bottom and Nike free runs. Pair that with an oversized sweater and a thick chunky scarf. Pull your hair into a low bun and if needed your collegiate ball cap. Works every time!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love olive greens! saw a pair yesterday of nike running leggings that I almost bought. (going to wait for the sale) You sound pretty dang fashionable!
Hannah says
My idea outfit would be some funky, colorful stretchy pants with a cute sweater looking shirt and scarf!!!!! Love those funky pants!!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Gotta love the funky pants!
Emily says
My ideal outfit would be… black straight legged yoga pants and a nice colorful tank and have it layered with a jacket/scarf. I think layering is key.
Taralynn McNitt says
Very cute!
emma soji says
My ideal outfits, yes ideal outfits are all active-ware. =) I live in my pretty yoga cloths. My current ideal favorites are my black kiragrace yoga pants; they have cute cut outs on the sides of each pant leg. I pair this with any black or patterned top and presto! Works all day and gets compliments. =)
Taralynn McNitt says
I just got some cut-out leggings too. I love them.
Kate says
I practically live in black or grey under armour running capris, a bright colored tank top with a shelf bra or comfy sports bra, and a loose fitting tee or long sleeve shirt that covers my butt. I usually pair it with a long cardigan and can switch between knee high boots and sneakers pretty easily without making my outfit look too weird!
Taralynn McNitt says
The have the best running capris! They have ones with pockets now that look like jeans.
Mackenzie Maresh says
My ideal outfit would be neutral colored leggings, a loose fitting, off the shoulder sweater, scarf, and a fun pair of running shoes for some pep in my step! Neutral color leggings are super versatile! I have a pair of under armour ones from Dicks that I wear to workout in, but quickly can put on black boots or even heeled booties to go into the office. I have an obsession with sports bras- there are so many fun patterns, but they get mostly covered by my shirt when I go to the gym or out-and-about. SO, I love wearing sweaters with looser shoulders that can show straps of those super cute sports bras! If I am going straight from a workout to lunch usually I will wear a tank top to workout, take it off after, and have a light weight jacket that I can cover up on top to replace it. This helps reduce that “after workout chills” feeling a bunch. For shoes-Asics are my go to for those out and about shoes that grab attention- they have some seriously fun multi-colored shoes that are also great for running and cross-training. Loved your post as usual!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Mackenzie! You sound like you know whats up when it comes to fashion fitness! I’ll be taking some of your ideas 🙂
Kelsey Zarek says
My ideal outfit is pretty similar. I feel like I like to go for a fashionletic look. I like to be fashionable but let’s be real, I want to be comfortable and am always in a time crunch from one activity to the next. On the weekends I want an outfit that I can wear to hit errands but don’t need to change once i get to spin or yoga. I usually go for a baggier top, something that is off the shoulder or open back to see the strappiness and cool sports bras! Then I go for a fun patterned legging. I’m up north right now so I usually pair with a scarf, vest and beanie. I usually wear these with my all white nikes if I’m hitting the gym or keds if I’m going to yoga. I think the key is layers! It helps me be able to go right from the yoga studio to brunch or drinks with friends. Love everything you picked! Can’t wait to check out their new stuff!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much and i love your style!
Jeni says
I often have to go from Crossfit to class so I am in a similar situation that I have to look presentable 🙂 I always wear black capri-length running tights with some variation of a tank and a long sleeve over it. And my black nikes, of course!
Taralynn McNitt says
People who do cross fit always seem to have the best fitness wardrobe!
Olivia S says
The BEST outfit for running errands, going to work, etc. are crop leggings with crazy colors/prints and a super comfy quarter-zip pullover. Not going to lie, this is my outfit like 5 days out of the week. I can’t tell you how many times people from work will ask “are you going to work out?” and, often times, I’m like “nope! just like to be comfy :)”. The good thing is that, if I do change my mind, I’m already dressed for going to the gym! Two birds. One stone.
Taralynn McNitt says
No shame in that!! I love being comfy too.
Brittany says
Are you engaged? That looks like a diamond on your hand!
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s an opal birthday gift from my aunt! :):D
Julianne says
About 80% of the week, I wear yoga leggings with a sports bra and a half zip pull over paired with my black nikes 🙂 half zips are my go-to every time. They’re so comfy and can be made to look cute so easily!
Taralynn McNitt says
Love how everyone has black nikes.
Marissa says
I love working out in neutral colored leggings with a splash of color paired with a light, breathable running tank! Can throw on a sweater to layer to go on quick errands afterwards 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Very cute!!
Holley says
Oh my gooooodness. I could probably keep Dick’s sporting goods in business by myself alone! I buy my shoes there (they have a treadmill you can try them out on at the store near me…Which is fantastic) I buy workout clothes and casual clothes there, my winter snow boots, my winter jacket, knee braces for my pesky IT band, foam rollers, garmin, running fuel, etc etc!! My ideal outfit is a pair of leggings that are a fun pattern, but go with lots of tops. A quarter zip breathable shirt is what you’ll usually find me wearing on top (thumb holes to keep my hands warm are a must!), with a flattering sweatshirt or zip jacket of some sort over everything. They also sell cabin socks, which are the best socks EVER. A big scarf and cute ear warmer for chilly New England weather wouldn’t hurt either to top the outfit off 😉
So excited for the giveaway! Also, love your blog… Been reading it for years!
-Holley

Hhahahahhaa then you probably LOVE the new women’s department!
They really have EVERYTHING 😀
thanks for all the kind words!! xo xo

I love throwing a turtleneck sweater over a pair of black leggings and a men’s wear-inspired coat, with some classic sneakers, for an effortless transitional outfit. Athleti-chic is my fave look! So comfy!
Taralynn McNitt says
me too! I always get fashion ideas on tumblr for the athletic chick
Jaime says
I have these black workout leggings that have kind of a matte look on the front. I’ll wear that with a vneck workout shirt and a cute patterned hoodie with my sneakers. If I’m really ambitious I’ll french braid my hair in pigtails instead of having it look sweaty and gross in a ponytail.
Taralynn McNitt says
I like doing braids too! The ponytail is bad on my hair breakage.
Kayla says
I like the cute sweater above, it’d be appropriate at my work I think.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks!
Kelly says
Being a phys ed teacher and having to look both professional and athletic without looking sloppy, I would have to say that my ideal outfit would be any type of leggings with a loose fitted top (I need to hide my belly after my babies) and any type of Nike sneakers. I find that you can dress leggings up or down to fit the place you are going wether it’s for a workout, out with some friends and in my situation it’s also going to work. If I am going to chase kids around all day both at home and at work why not look cute doing it?!
Taralynn McNitt says
They should just let teachers wear workout clothes all day!!
Kate says
My ideal workout outfit is a tight fitting tank with a built in sports bra and crazy leggings! I do hot yoga, so the tank is a must because looser things end up in my face. And crazy leggings.. well just because they’re fun!
Taralynn McNitt says
Still haven’t tried hot yoga!
Kaylin@EnticingHealthyEating says
My ideal outfit is actually a dress. Why? Because it’s one piece of clothing. Ha! I like minimalism! If I could wear a dress every day of my life, I’d be set!
Taralynn McNitt says
Love that:)
Jessica says
During the weekends I’m all about colorful, patterned leggings or shorts with loose fitting tops that are perfect for running errands or taking a hike since I want to be ready for anything. During the week I try to get away with wearing my exercise gear in the office since they make it so stylish now! Workout gear is my weakness when it comes to spending money. I’m pretty good at saying no to other clothing but as soon as I enter a fitness store I know I’m a goner. I wear it all the time it’s easy to justify splurging! I’m working on it, though 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
lol that sounds a lot like me!
Emily Kaas says
I live in Minnesota so my idea of the perfect outfit involves a cute sweatshirt and breathable t-shirt with black or gray leggings to go with my pink Ugg’s. I always have a pair of light weight running shoes in my purse so I can hit the gym when ever my schedule allows!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love wearing my uggs with leggings!
Laura says
I love any sort of leggings and a hoodie or tunic top!
Taralynn McNitt says
tunics!!

I love that coral sweater! And the sweatshirt u bought. I’d wear them with jeans or leggings. What brands were they?
Cassie says
My ideal outfit would be black compression leggings, a white comfy v neck, and an aqua zip up! Paired with my favorite Aqua/black Nikes of course!
Emily Weir says
I like to keep it simple and comfy. Cute leggings with a longer comfy long sleeve shirt of sweatshirt and my white converse. Perfect for every situation!
Nadine Johnson says
I love doing a plum or jewel tone pair of leggings with a loose flowy white workout top. Add a oversized gray knit scarf to head to the office or run errands!
Paige says
I wear workout clothes almost all of the time too! They are perfect for going to class. I love cropped leggings and tanks for working out. and gotta have fun colors!
Genessa says
I tend to be an all black everything kind of gal. I usually wear plain black leggings and a loose fitting black top. I recently lost quite a bit of weight so all of my shirts are loose fitting…good problem to have, I suppose ☺️ I need to branch out though, so my ideal workout outfit would be bright and fun leggings and a bright colored figure fitting top! I can (and do) wear my workout clothes daily because I have the luxury of being a stay at home mom to my two little ones so I get a lot of use out of them!
adrienna says
Comfy tights are the best for transitioning from running to brunch. Swap the sweaty shirt for a cozy tunic or long sweatshirt and you’re ready to go!
Charlotte says
For sure black leggings, and more than likely a black top, too! If I find the right colored top I would do that, but black on black is my go to! With my Asics (which happen the be the exact some ones you’re wearing in this post!)

I currently am in medical school, so I don’t have an “office,” I have a library! I live in south Florida which is very hot during the summer, but all school year it is also chilly in the mornings and evenings! My ideal outfit would take me from a beach brunch with other students (including a walk by the pier) to the library to study, and straight to the gym for a study break. That means I would need something warm enough for the breezy ocean morning, comfy enough to last a day of studying, and light enough to work out in and still be functional for a great lift or run! I think my outfit would involve cropped leggings in a cute but muted pattern- I don’t want to be distracted by my pants while studying! I would want a COMFY sports bra, and probably a nice loose bright pink or blue tank top so I don’t feel too restricted all day. I would also need a zip up or pullover for my morning brunch, something preferably with thumb holes! I don’t know why I have an obsession with those. Most importantly, I need a comfy, breathable, and COLORFUL pair of kicks! They need to be breathable because my feet get HOT, and colorful because that’s my favorite way to brighten an outfit! Dick’s Sporting Goods is one of my favorite stores, and I can’t wait to see their newly designed women’s area!
Lauren says
My ideal outfit would be black, thermal leggings, a workout tank (preferably something bright and colorful) and a light dry fit sweater! 🙂
Abbey says
I live in fun workout tights and basic shirts with my brooks or merrell running shoes. I’m training for a marathon while taking care of a toddler so I usually throw a sweatshirt/jean button up shirt on top and head to the store/library classes/playdates. And I keep the stroller in the back of the car so I can fit a run in wherever we have time!
Jillian says
I’m a runner so I love comfy workout clothes that are cute enough to wear to class and make it easy to stretch or head to the gym during the day!
Ashley Mast says
I love a good pair of joggers or yoga capris with a long tank top and a half zip pullover! Transitioning between events is all about layers! I could pair yoga pants with flats and the joggers with sneakers when I’m out and about. 🙂
Abbey W says
I am training for a full marathon while taking care of a toddler so I am all about active wear! My ideal outfit is fun/colorful leggings with a comfy top that I can throw a sweater or my blue jean button up over top of- I wear it to library classes, grocery shopping, playdates- everywhere! I usually top it off with some white converse tennis shoes and I keep my stroller and running shoes in the car so I am ready to explore on a run wherever we go!
Lindsey says
Those black and white leggings ?
My ideal workout outfit that could also double for work and errands has to have good coverage and be comfortable. Being a busty girl, I have to make sure I am covered and appropriate! I would pair a supportive sports bra with a racerback tank top, light jacket, and my favorite – yoga crops! There’s no comfort like yoga crops ?
Abbie says
Definitely black leggings, bright colored sports bra, solid colored tank and a neon patterned half zip up pullover!! With some bright colored Nikes! Comfy but cute(: gotta love the bright colors!!
Courtney says
I love leggings and a long sleeve shirt. Basically, those black and white pants and pink top are goals!
Penny says
My favorite outfit is yoga pants/yoga leggings with a button up shirt or sweater/sweatshirt. I then have on my sports bra and a long tank top over that. Since I am always cold, I will add a scarf to keep my neck warm. No one knows I’m wearing yoga pants and I am comfortable and warm. In the summer I swap the long pants for capri’s and maybe a short sleeve shirt instead of the long sleeves.
Sarah says
Half of my current outfit is from Dicks! Getting ready for grocery shopping in fleece pants with a long baggy teal sweater 🙂 I do love the quarter zip running shirts with the thumb holes though! Those and my leggings are probably my favorite to run errands in!
Kirsten says
My favorite outfit that transforms from casual to gym/ vice versa would have to be cropped black yoga pants with a loose fitting flowy type top. This way I can throw boots and a cardigan on over it and go casual right after I get my workout in without the hassle of changing!
Amy says
I can’t win because I work for DSG but I’m so happy you enjoyed the store and the selection! I’m a huge fan of our Calia line and wear the sweaters here to work often! Love your blog and love that you kinda stepped into my world!
Devanee says
I usually stick to a neutral color and then add something that has a pop of color. You put together some really cute outfits with multiple purposes! I never thought about wearing workout leggings to work! I’ll definitely have to try that! ❤️
Erin says
i love obnoxiously bright workout clothes! and a cute zip up to throw over for later
Kate says
I just gave up my office job to stay home with my new baby girl! As a result I’m in the process of bulking up my cute but comfy wardrobe!! I have lots of black leggings and more fitted tips from before baby BUT now I’m into patterned leggings and flowy tops…good for comfort, nursing, and hiding those few extra baby pounds! 😉 love your blog!!
Carrie says
I am a mom of two little ones so my go to is yoga pants, soft t shirt or tank, and a sweatshirt or sweater to dress it up a bit!
Lila says
Black Leggings, A t-shirt , down jacket, and scarf. ..and of course my hot pink nikes!
Ashley says
I love to wear workout leggings EVERYWHERE! To work, class, on lazy days, and out with friends. I am obsessed. Sometimes I will dress them up with a nice shirt and boots/flats/sandals, but other times I like to wear a colorful workout tank with a sweater, or just any loose comfy chic top. And obviously, I’ve gotta fit in some actual workout time with my leggings 😉
Erica says
Hey Taralynn! I loveee and live for these kinds of clothes. I’m in my first year of med school and leggings and other workout clothes are my go-to outfits. Interesting patterns and textures for leggings and something soft and cozy on top with a scarf, plus some colorful sneakers or fuzzy boots. We’re in anatomy right now so I have to change in and out of scrubs every day before hitting the library, and workout clothes are easy to pick out/grab on the go — they’re also great for popping right into the gym when I need a study break. (…and your blog is also another fave for study breaks 🙂 in the lib as I type!)
Hanah Miller says
I would describe my style as always in pre gym-post gym limbo. Functional, sporty, and trying to be sort of chic with living in Chicago, my need to layer is needed for surviving the winter. The perfect outfit is anything that provides me comfort that allows me to trek through campus to school then lets me go directly to the gym for a stress-free workout.
Donna Zittel says
Comfy oversized sweatshirt and black leggings.
Grace Holloway says
Although I can’t wear workout clothes to my job, I wear them the rest of the time. I love a cute outfit that can be versatile to go run errands or go to breakfast on the weekend. My ideal outfit would be some cute leggings, a cute sports bra, and then depending on the season either tank and a cover up, or a cozy and cute sweatshirt. I usually stick to plain colors and then have one or two bright/fun patterned pieces. But lets be real, I honestly just love any type of workout clothing!

I the marketing director at a Chick-fil-A and comfort business casual is key. I need to be able to get to work help in the dining room, make deliveries and meet with
People for fundraising. After all that go and workout without skipping a beat. Leggings with a long flowy shirt is ideal.
Kenzie says
Ideally I like neutral colors, as opposed to neons. I’m already sweaty and tired, I don’t need to be bright and loud too! 😉 Neutral colors with a pattern that will conceal any sweat spots please. 🙂 Love all the outfits you modeled!
Melanie K. says
I like black leggings with a flowy workout top topped with my jean jacket. I like the black and white leggings with a colorful top. So cute!

My ideal outfit is a ballet pink long sleeved loose shirt – with a cool loose back cutout to show off a fun strappy-back black sports bra! Paired with dark gray compression leggings and black lightweight cross-train gym shoes I feel like I can go from yoga to coffee to errand-running!
I just did a closet cleanout to make room for gym clothes because I’m working on getting back in shape!

Hi Taralynn!!!! I love wearing casual/cool workout clothes 24/7. I love brunching too! I wear Carrie Underwood’s new line Calia and LuLulemon usually. I would love to be able to go buy some more!!! Thanks girl!! Have a fabulous weekend!! Xoxoxo
Carissa says
My ideal outfit is full length leggings with colorful patterns and a simple long sleeve quarter zip to tone everything down. Comfortable fabrics that wick sweat for leggings and tops are my favorite!
Ashton Jury says
Love all of your picks, especially that sweater! I have been trying to get into wearing more fun bright colors, but I swear I am like Wednesday Adams with all the black are dark blues & greens in my wardrobe. I would love to get some fun bright pieces that I can wear out to run errands or meet up with friends after a nice hike or morning yoga class. <3
Sarah says
I like mixing my colors and prints! Printed running leggings, a bright shirt, and my teal and pink Asics.
Ashley says
My favorite outfit would be leggings (fleece lined in the winter) and a tunic top with a scarf ! I work in real estate so it’s super important to look put together but I strive to be comfy every day. A cute pair of flats to go with and I’m good to go!
Angelica says
Hi Taralynn,
I am a college student so I fit my gym time in between or after classes, so it’s safe to say I wear workout clothes the majority of the time. My ideal outfit is workout leggings, a comfy sports bra, a sassy tank top that reads “gym hair, don’t care” or “I bust mine, so I can kick yours” kind of saying. I’m usually cold so I’ll layer with an infinity scoop neck sweater (my favorite) the comfort of a scarf without the extra layer and I enjoy the overall look. I usually wear some nicer fashionable nikes to school or wherever I’m running errands and carry my gym or hiking shoes with me for an easy switch 🙂
Kelley H says
Since being in Physical Therapy school, I LOVE being able to wear cute workout clothes that allow me to move around during classes and then being able to go teach group fitness/ workout after class! I’m in love with a dark colored leggings (deep purple is my favorite) with a tank and 1/4 zip. It’s my go-to!!
Nikki says
Running shoes! Always yoga pants and layered shirts.. Smartwool Thanks for the chance
Lauren F. says
I’m a big fan of classis black compression leggings and a fun colorful tank. The combo of athletic / leisure wear is the.best.ever! I would live in them if I could.
Erin says
I LOVE Dick’s. It’s the only place near me that carries reebok, which is my favorite brand. I’m a personal trainer an an athlete, so my ideal oit fit is stylish and functional with fun prints, with something loose and baggy I can throw over it… when you have to be at work at 5:00 am, it helps to wear loose, warm clothes to still get the comfort of being in bed 😉
Becca says
Leggings, of course, and a big sweatshirt!
Cheryl says
My ideal outfit is a dressy tee and capris with casual, comfortable flats.
Allison says
Unfortunately I can’t wear workout clothes to the office but I love wearing a comfy pair of yoga pants or running tights with a loosely fitted sweater (I LOVE the pink sweater you are wearing in your post!). So comfy, warm and still looks put together!
Morgan says
My ideal outfit would be solid-colored leggings and a fun-loose fitting top. I’m freezing after a workout if I sweat in a tight top and can’t change right away!
Leah Reed says
My ideal outfit that i can wear to work (yay nurse life) is capri black leggings, thin strappy sports bra, a loose long sleeve workout top and a half zip or regular zip up jacket with some cute colorful running shoes 🙂 <3
Kari says
Taralynn, I love the outfits you put together! If I am chosen I will definitely be picking up that pink top. My ideal outfit for a workout, coffee stop, running errands, or anything really is leggings with a fun semi-fitted tank top and a loose long sleeve shirt I can wear over my tank for when I get cold. I usually bring along flip flops to change into after my workout, unless I’m doing yoga, of course:)
Lauren says
I work in a job that I wear scrubs all day so needless to say it has been an extra special event to get me in a pair of jeans! On the weekends I love myself some capri running leggings, a big comfy sweatshirt, and because you never know what the weather will be like in the Hoosier State I have an array of puffy vest just in case I need an extra layer!
Lauren says
My ideal outfit would be something I’m able to wear during these chilly Vermont winters (hello -30 this week!) to sunset hikes this summer! I would choose running leggings and a nice warm sweater for the top!
Shannen says
I love print leggings and a solid top. Black and white Nikes are my ultimate go to! I love them so much. (In fact I need a new pair.) I also love having a lightweight hoodie nearby in case I get chilly.
(Narrowing this down was hard! Lol)
Amanda says
My ideal outfit is cute leggings with a slouchy, comfortable, and cute sweater. Plus extremely comforting and stylish tennis shoes. Pretty much workout clothes disguised as walking around clothes 🙂
Lisa says
I love everything you picked out. You are so beautiful and you should model!
Jen H. says
I am so very guilty of working out and then having to run errands immediately after ( I think we all are) so my ideal workout outfit is something that is workout worthy yet cute enough to be out in public in. I prefer black or dark colors because it hides the sweat…and come on nobody wants to be out in public sweaty! Black leggings just past the knee, a bright colored sports bra, and an off the shoulder on one side baggy sweater. The open shoulder shows a little skin and is cute to wear in public yet you also look like you just kicked butt at the gym!! I also am a huge fan of Nikes so a cute pair of bright colored kicks seal the deal. Perfect outfit.
Krista Lynn says
Black leggings and a colorful tee or hoodie!
Erin says
My ideal workout/brunch outfit would be some type of colored or patterned leggings in a soft, stretchy material – not the plasticy Saran Wrap type. I like pairing patterned leggings with a solid colored tank and tennis, and then adding in a complimentary colored zip up or long sleeved top. .. And maybe a scarf for brunch!
Hollie says
I straight up swoon over a thick pair of leggings (I hate when my leggings feel too thin like they are showing off everything!) and a feminine/classy top. I love flowy shirts and nothing too restrictive! Ideally, for a multi-purpose outfit I’d go for a muted pair of leggings and and light colored top ?
Lisa says
Something classy, chic and not to right or baggy. You want to be comfortable but not be frumpy.
Bri says
I could LIVE… wait, I do live in workout gear, haha! My favorites are leggings and tanks or this time of year would be a sweatshirt.
Hallie K says
First and foremost, I love to run! My go to outfit is compression leggings, normally capris, with a fun print! I love pairing the bottoms with a more plain top that matches. I usually get cold while running errands, so love to bring a light zip up jacket to complete the look! I’m really just open to anything bright and fun and allows me to move and breath while the running!
Hopefully this soon to be birthday girl (I am turning 24 on the 20th) can snag a new outfit!
Amanda Willauer says
I’m a college student, so I’m always super busy and running around from class, to lunch dates, to the grocery store, to the gym, and back to the library to study! My ideal outfit would be something simple and easy but still cute. I’d pair some black leggings with a loose colorful top and my favorite pair of tennis shoes! An a messy bun cause my hair won’t stay nice all day lol
Julie says
My ideal outfit is solid black leggings so comfy that I never want to take off! You can’t go wrong with black workout pants! Then I’d love a really fun patterned top and a casual athletic sweater 🙂
Lanie says
Loose fit top with print leggings, sneakers for the gym, and then switch to boots for the errands or work! oh…and on wednesdays I wear pink;)
Christina Keay says
My ideal outfit for working out and running errands would include comfy leggings(why are leggings so comfy?! I seriously wear them as pjs!!:), a loose fitted, long top that covers my bum, and a pair of black Nike sneakers. I also would have a little jacket with me at all times, because I’m always FREEZING!!! I really like the zip up hoodies with the thumb holes! Oh, and I’m so glad messy buns are pretty much acceptable outside the gym because my outfit wouldn’t be complete without it! Lol:D
Christianne says
My ideal outfit are cute printed leggings, a plain loose long sleeve top or sweater, and my teal nikes. I teach so a sweater could do double duty, but not so much my leggings. 🙂
Christianne says
Haha I meant outfit is. Oops!
Yasmene abdel says
My best friend and I are always trying to work out together followed by a rewarding brunch or happy hour so I have this down to a science! We like to go from sweaty to ready in 60 seconds! When I know I need to look presentable right after a workout- I like to wear a solid color capri, a padded sports bra (trusted me the padding is necessary) and a tank. When done working out, I take my hair out of a bun and let it dry on way to brunch, throw on a wrap sweater or a light cardigan on over tank, an infinity scarf ifs it a bit chilli and most importantly I have a pair of flip flops to switch into!
Emily says
I love skorts! They are perfect for work, golf, and walking/running. I’m lucky to be able to wear supportive athletic shoes to work and encouraged to take walks on my lunch hour so my black and white Nikes are my favoriets. My go-to tops are quarter zip, long-sleeve tops because I can wear tanks/tees underneath since NYC weather is unpredictable.
Tara says
I love leggings in any color and a comfy tee! Actually I love any kind of comfy workout clothes and I will wear them everywhere!
Lauren L. says
Being an ER nurse means I pretty much get to wear my pajamas ‘scrubs’ to work! But with those ambulance bay doors opening and closing all night shift, it can get freezing, particularly in Colorado. My ideal Dicks Sporting Good shopping spree would include head bands & long sleeved layers that would be appropriate to wear under my scrubs and would make me ready for an after work run, brunch or both (on those particularly rough evenings). Thank you for all you do!
Chelsea Iobst says
My ideal outfit would be black or blue running leggings and a brightly covered top. I love a good scarf that is made for working out so I don’t feel like I am ruining a good one when its a little colder out after a workout! I love this post and recently went to a dicks that had the new womans section and was so mesmerized I couldn’t buy anything because I didn’t know where to even begin! Awesome post!
Caitlin P says
Classic black leggings, boots, slouchy sweater and a patterned scarf for me!
Brooke says
My ideal outfit is all black or mix in some neutrals like grey and white. I also change out of my tennis shoes and into my converse sometimes just to change up the outfit a bit once I finish working out. Oh, and my hair is always in a top knot. 🙂
Alyssa E says
I don’t wear the same thing at the office as I do on errands after a workout. But my ideal outfit overall is a pair of comfortable jeans, converse, and a cute flowy top.
Amanda says
My ideal outfit.. Hmm. I’ve never own running pants and I think a classic black with a pop of color would be ideal with a fitted tank under a pull over would be ideal for all occasions. I work in a lab and workout before work and during lunch so I could easily transition between working out and being comfortable under my lab coat. I actually was in dicks today and noticed all the new clothing lines. Including Carrie underwood and they are really making a change to incorporate new styles that I would love to try out.
Selin says
Well, since I’m a college student, I guess my “work” is class! My campus is huge so I’m always running around. My ideal outfit is black leggings that aren’t shiny or see-through with a tee-shirt, a loose fitting sweater and my Nikes!
Hayley says
I’m seriously going to Dick’s this weekend to track down that pink sweater! Would be so cute with full length leggings and boots at thee office. Change into tennies and you’re good to go for a run!
Erin says
I can’t wear workout clothes to work unfortunately. I’m an elementary school teacher but fortunately we can wear leggings. My ideal outfit would be something more for the weekend while running errands or playing with my 2 year old daughter. I love some cute funky patterned compression leggings and an awesome hoodie for comfort and warmth. I totally love anything black and Carolina blue ?

This would be such a cool and awesome win!! What a great idea!
My favourite outfit is: black Lululemon dance studio pants (because they are super comfy and stylish!) with my hot pink/coral Nike frees, comfy fitted light grey long sleeve, and cheery infinity scarf that pulls the whole look together!!! Oh and pull my hair up into a messy, imperfect bun and some how adding a braid in there!!! ??
Gotta love chic and comfortable clothes that look great!

Hi Taralynn!
I’ve commented your blog a few times now I’ve been reading for over two years I love reading all your posts they are so relatable to me!…i especially love all the recipes! While a freebie gift card is always awesome I’m honestly not commenting for that I just wanted to ask if you’ve ever considered modeling for an agency at all? You are so photogenic and I think you’d be awesome at it! I always wanted to try out modeling myself but never really got around to it and now I’m wrapped up in the corporate world of business :/ Anyways love your blog! And if you ever find free time you should check out Raleigh NC I have family there and I love visiting there’s lots to do 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Katherine!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I have never ever considered modeling/have any interest in it. I am actually VERY uncomfortable behind a camera and I usually like to be the one taking the photos. If modeling is your passion, you should maybe try to do it and fit it in with your corporate job! 🙂 Never too late to follow your dreams!
xo xo Raleigh looks amazing!

I love to wear capris, usually solid color, with a tank top and supportive sports bra. Then throw on a zipper sweat shirt. That way I can leave it open if I’m hot or zip up when I cool down.

I absolutely LOVE the Calia by Carrie Underwood line found at Dick’s! I received some adorable capri leggings at Christmas and it just took off from there! I feel great in them and that helps me get inspired to work out. I am an overweight mom and teacher who struggles to lose weight. I feel like dressing the part really gets me motivated to move. I have been walking since Christmas. I do 3-4 miles a day inside or on the treadmil. I come home, get my cute Calia outfits on and off I go. The endorphins kick in and it’s great.

Grab a cover-up that you can work professionally as well as post-workout. It is structured like an office-friendly blazer, but breathable — not to mention machine washable — so you can also throw it back on after gym class. and making leggings with tank under … also an easy scarf could dress it up for office or casual dining option and easy to take off …

I would select a causal top and a tank to go under it so I can switch into gym mode at any moment! So I basically live in either scrubs or work out clothes simply because I work 4 days a weeks and go to the gym 3 days a week. I have two little guys on top of this so my gym clothes are usually go to outfit for errands, school meetings, cleaning the house, studying, ect. I’m attracted to wild patterns but conservatively chose black capris with neutral tops. Maybe with a $50 gift card I could just get that funky pair of leggings, you know splurge a little. You rock by the way. Thank you for doing what you do, keeping us motivated.

I would love to have a tighter fitting athletic top with some light, baggier pants! (Kind of like loose yoga pants) I know they mostly have leggings, so just a really cool pair of patterned leggings and an athletic sweater-top would also be cool!
I really enjoyed seeing the clothing combos you put together 🙂
Lauren says
Hehe…to be honest, I normally run in jeans and an old t-shirt. 🙂 I think people kind of think I’m weird for running in jeans, but I’ve grown up wearing them so I find them comfortable and a lot more modest than many other kinds of running gear. Ideally, though, if I could get “real” work out clothes, I’d kind of like to try those tights that look like jeans and then an athletic t-shirt that looks nice enough that I could wear it to class if I needed to.
Jessica says
Yoga pants and a comfy shirt!
Ambra Denham says
Since I don’t wear pants my ideal outfit always includes a skirt. I love 1/4 zip shirts, love Patagonia and North Face!!
I love the orange top you had on!!

Oh wow, I would definitely be overwhelmed by all the new choices at Dick’s, too!
Have you tried any of Carrie Underwood’s workout line, Calia? I haven’t yet, but everything is so cute!
Okay, so my ideal outfit for working out/brunch/errands would be black, ankle-length leggings with cute laser cut-outs on the side, a bright teal tank top with a black strappy workout bra underneath, and my black Asics. For brunch, I would throw on an over-sized, loose, off-the-shoulder sweater and wear sandals. For a meeting, I would wear a black blazer instead of the sweater, and wear nude heels instead of sandals.
Love you + your blog, Taralynn! ♡

At class or running errands, I’ll wear a cute pair of boots and it looks like you’re cute! But then I’ll keep running shoes in my bag or car to slip on before my workout. I also love tank tops that I can go out in put. Makes me so happy when I can wear my clothes in multiple different situations 🙂

My ideal outfit that can be worn to brunch, at the office, or out running errands after a workout would definitely be black capri length leggings with a soft, flowy, neutral colored workout top. That way if I’m at the gym my outfit is loose enough to stretch in and I can throw on my bright colored Asics for running, but when I leave for groceries, brunch, work, etc. I can switch it up by adding a fun colored scarf and some flats to make the outfit look more dressy. I love outfits that are a mix of fitted and loose so that I can be comfortable but still have the more fitted item on so I don’t look too sloppy. I love all the outfits that you have in this post!! I’ve only been to Dick’s Sporting Goods a few times but I’m super excited after reading this post because they’re almost done building one less than a mile from my apartment! I could definitely use some new workout clothes.

Dressing up nice is always fun, but nothing beats the comfort and coziness of a cute gym ready outfit! By the way have loved your blog, since the start Taralynn thanks for always inspiring me and for being such a positive light in the blog world!<3

Hi Taralynn,
First I wanted to say that I absolutely love your blog. I have been following you since almost the beginning, and am always excited to see a new post. You have really inspired me to stay healthy, and flexible amongst all the craziness life throws at us.
I am an American Sign Language interpreter living in the Philadelphia region, and there is never a dull moment to be found. Everyday I am in 3-5 different places, ranging from hospitals to classrooms, sports practices to magician conferences. If you can imagine it I’ve probably interpreted it. I never fully know what I’m walking into, so I love wearing clothing that I can easily modify to any job. Leggings are my favorite thing to wear, however they aren’t allowed in my line of work. Bold and bright colors, and crazy patterns are also a big no no, as they cause distraction behind my hands moving. Due to this, my outfits include wearing a lot of golf pants with dark colors, and some non- contrasting patterns…got to have a little fun 😉 They give my look that professional feel, but still have a casual side.
My ideal outfit would include a pair of black skinny golf pants, a cranberry flowy long sleeve shirt, with a black vest, and fun scarf that I can take off and on. I also love wearing fun headbands that keep my hair out of my face, but are also super cute. This makes it super easy after a long day to switch out my pants for bold patterned leggings to hit the gym, grocery store, etc.
Thanks so much, and keep inspiring others!

My ideal outfit that I can wear anywhere is plain black legging. I love these and have many pairs. I like to get the cotton kind that does not have a shine to it. I like being able to wear these to work with boots and a long shirt. when I want to go to the gym after I can just put my tennis shoes on and a t-shirt. I also love being able to have a nice long sleeve for if I want to hike or go get breakfast after a workout. I have to dress more professional and it can be difficult to cross workout clothes and work clothes. Thanks for the great post Taralynn

Julianna says
My must haves are high waisted black compression leggings with some sort of mesh cut-out (that way it has some sass!), a strappy and supportive bra, and a basic shirt!
Arleen says
My ideal outfit would be the light weight sweaters that slightly fall off the shoulder and Nike capri leggings! Great for hikes and a delicious brunch afterwards.
Victoria says
Lately, I have been all about fun printed shirts with cute and catchy sayings on them. Like today while running errands, I sported my “Nama-Stay In Bed” shirt (loosely fitted), pink sports bra so the straps show like an 80’s workout shirt, and long black leggings. I usually pair this type of outfit with my Under Armour running shoes, but I also have a comfy pair of slip-ons that are comfy and stylish.
I am all about the sales when I shop! Recently, I bought a plum purple zip-up jacket for half-price that I pair on top of short-sleeve workout shirts and running pants/capris. It is the most comfortable, breathable and lightest jacket I’ve ever owned. Even when I started cross-fit, I was able to easily move, run, lift and push while maintaining a cool body temperature. I’ve transitioned this jacket into a fun brunch outing and shopping attire, as it was a little fitted to give me a sleeker look when stepping out in jeans and leggings with boots or flats.
My overall workout clothes style is comfortable and cool with eye-catching colors, designs and prints.

Hi Taralynn!
My ideal workout outfit is black leggings and a comfortable shirt or sweater, with colorful tennis shoes! I love running outside but I live in Wisconsin so I need to dress in many layers as it gets very cold here in the winter! For my job I have to wear dress pants, but I do like to wear active pullovers whenever I can to work. Whenever I have class, I wear comfy and casual workout clothing. I love how workout clothing can be so comfortable and fun!

I’m a long distance runner so whatever I choose to wear has to be comfy and chafe free bc I’ll be wearing it for hours. Under Armour thongs are great – chafe free, no panty lines. I’m big chested, so 2 compression sports bras – 1 smaller to hold me in place and one a little larger over top. Cute running tights with a zippered key pocket.. A soft moisture wicking top. A cute quilted running vest with pockets for fuel, sunscreen, and phone. If I’m going to run errands afterwards, I like the vest to be long enough to cover my tush. A headband to protect my ears from the cold. Medium cushion dry wicking socks to prevent blisters. Good quality running shoes!

So my ideal outfit would be one that helps flatter this mama body in transition 😉

My ideal outfit would be black leggings – so versatile and can go with anything! A good sport bra and a looser fitting tank are my go to’s! I love to add a splash of color to lighten things up. I usually like to add a comfy pullover sweatshirt or a sweater – perfect to do errands or food shopping in since I’m always on the go. I finish it off with my old – but all time favorite Nike’s that have never let me down 😉
Samantha says
My ideal outfit to work out in and do daily activities is simply something that makes me feel confident! I often find myself wearing baggy sweatpants and old oversized t shirts to the gym, and I find myself dragging and not working my hardest. But, whenever I swap the usual shirt for something a bit nicer, I magically feel motivated and have a bit of confidence in my step that makes all the difference. Now I could get specific and say I’m crazy about that pinky peach shirt and leggings, just like in your post… BUT like I said, as long as what I’m wearing helps me along in accepting and loving myself, I’ll take it. 😉 I also live in a cute little town with countless coffee shops, so I love to run downtown and then stop for coffee, AND if my workout clothes are cute, I even love to stop in the little boutiques!

I’ve always had a love hate relationship with workout clothes. Like you Taralynn, I have lost some weight, 80 lbs and still have some to go so that makes workout clothes a little tricky! When I was heavier I was working out in men’s sweat pants and the biggest shirt I could find to hide all my extra weight. Now that I have lost the weight I continue to struggle with what I feel comfortable in to workout, go to the store or meet friends for lunch. I feel the most comfortable in soft leggings that don’t hug too much and a loose tank top, a little sweater over can transition it easily to errands and coffee.
Lisa McKessy says
Definitely a comfortable tshirt, leggings and a sweatshirt.
Sharon says
Leggings and a loose long tunic top get me through most of my activities. Thanks!
Celeste says
My ideal outfit for exercising and going out and about would be some neutral yoga pants, with a long burgundy tshirt and a comfy sweater to put on top. And then change my nikes to some boots :3 And have my hair in a loose side braid <3 Love your blog Taralynn it has been really inspirational for me <3 :3
Kelsi says
i’m a pretty simple person, so black joggers and a muscle tee w/ a cute sports bra underneath!
Sydney says
I’m actually old-school because I love a good pair of nike shorts and loose fitted t-shirt! I love wearing that base and after a good workout putting on a quarter sleeve or sweatshirt and running errands. It’s easy, comfortable, and convenient! If it’s a little cooler outside (which is rare because I live in Texas) I love a good pair of fun capri or full-length work out pants instead!
Tina says
My typical outfit are jeans, a comfortable cute top, and sneakers.
Mandi says
Definitely capri pants, tank layered under a loose top … Pants have compression and make the booty look good! But they can’t be too tight on the waist and make a lunch stop uncomfortable. 😉
Alicia says
Hello T, I think my sport / not only sport perfect outfit would be one with many layers of clothes because much I hate the cold, so pants sport a bit but not too broad, with running shoes beautiful, sports top,a shirt long or short sleeve cotton and finally a hoodie like in pretty little liars LOL. Best wishes <3
Grace says
In Texas, I don’t like to wear a lot of thick layers for running. Spring has pretty much hit down here, so I am hankering for some cute tanks and shorts. And maybe an oversized sweatshirt to go to brunch afterward!
Janet G says
Black leggings, neutral colored sneakers and a bright long sleeve sweatshirt or tee! Love all those outfits you picked out at Dicks!
Emily says
My favorite outfit is definitely a pair of black and white patterned workout capris with looser fitting bright t-shirt and some bright running shoes!

I love solid – or very slightly patterned dark leggings, long tshirts that cover my butt, and big comfy sweatshirts.
Angela M says
I prefer black leggings, colorful loose top and my nikes. That’s what I’m most comfortable in.
Karla Muñoz says
Leggins, a flowy tank or a tshirt, bright sauconys or asics sneakers and a cardigan just in case. Most comfortable outfit ever.
Taryn says
Capri leggings and a racerback tank top! I wear this most days 🙂
Melissa Young says
Colorful leggings, Racer back tank tops with loose fitting domain sleeve tops.
lauraanne says
I have realized this past (mild) winter that I have no in-between workout zip up that’s good for hiking or just running to the store. The one I do have is for cool summer days…nothing for Buffalo winters!
Natalie says
Ideal outfit? If I am gonna transition to work it has to be comfy high rise leggings and a long sleeve top that is breathable and long enough to cover my bum! I’d probably top it off with a scarf – I’m all about the layers! The best 🙂
Robyn says
My ideal outfit would be a solid black with mesh ankle cut outs compression legging with a good sports bra that matches the print and a fun graphic tee that says something with top knots and brunch or possibly kale with a circle infinity scarf and a fannel to go over or tie around the waist. I would probably wear my berkinstocks if I did birkram or spin and my brooks if I went running! I love wearing workout clothes that can seamlessly go from gym to street
Caitlin says
My ideal outfit for working out and running errands or meeting friends consists of black or black/white/grey running leggings with a supportive sports bra, fitted tank and casual sweater/ pullover. I love the versatility to wear my running shoes and a fun headband for my workout, usually running or yoga, then adding a scarf for warmth and style. In the warm months I always have a pair of flip flops to change into, but in the winter I usually throw on some casual boots so I don’t wear my running shoes all over in the snow. ❤️
Jessica says
My ideal outfit would have to be colorful/printed running tights with any top. I love the confidence a new pair of running tights give me. I currently have bright pink, red, blue cheetah, some really colorful pair I don’t know how to explain, purple tie-dye, etc. I love the outfit you have in your top post with the coral sweater and printed tights. I think that outfit would be great to go to the gym in and then to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Class, Lounging, and my upcoming trip to Jamaica! I wish I could wear printed tights to work, but like you said that sweater top, I could wear to the office, and then switch out my dress pants for a pair of running tights after work.
Laura Stewart says
Hi Taralynn! I have been reading your blog for many years, all the way back to the undressedskeleton days! My ideal workout oufit would definitely include the ability to go from gym to bunch and errands! Some cute compression workout crop leggings with a flowy long sleeved top, with cut outs in the back to show off my sports bra! I live in Michigan, so a scarf and zip-up jacket are a must as well! A thick bright headband or a hat to keep my hair back!
Thank you for reading!
P.S. I see some serious bling on your finger, are you and nick engaged?!
Briana says
I love a light weight, loose fitting top with leggings. It’s what I wear 90% of the time and there’s no value you can put on a great pair of leggings! Cute and bright running shoes are also a must have, and you can really wear them anywhere too.
Kelsey Jones says
I love running leggings and a slouchy tee and hoodie. Perfect for running errands or brunch most times of the year!
Lindsay Mestieri says
My ideal outfit would consist of black, full length leggings with a tighter fitting gray top. Nike everything, accept for my red Mizuno running shoes! If it’s chilly I’ll throw on one of the running jackets I have. So comfy but stylish enough to wear around town!
Rebecca says
As a busy college student, comfort and convenience are key! My ideal outfit would be black compression leggings that I could pair with just about any athletic top or crewneck. Looking cute, but comfy, is a necessity while I’m in class during the day, and being able to go straight to the gym without changing is beyond nice.
Erin W says
I like compression leggings and a loose but not too loose top.
Becky says
It’s been a while since I shopped at Dick’s, but I’ll have to check out their new expanded workout section, especially those clearance racks! My ideal workout/everyday outfit is a colorful short sleeve top and pair of simple black leggings. While colorful workout leggings are fun, I like black leggings because they are great for working out but can also be dressed up a little with a pair of boots or cute flats. I love colorful tops because they are unique and fun! I love to sport my favorite color, purple while working out or doing anything else.
Jessica Losurdo says
My idea outfit is yoga pants & a loose comfy tee with Nike tennis shoes!! I’m a fitness instructor & teach a class on Saturday mornings so that look is perfect for when I need to run errands after or grab coffee with a friend! 🙂
Amanda says
I love printed leggings and interchangeable tops! These are my go-to for running errands or hanging out around home!
Katie says
My perfect outfit would be high waisted workout leggings either capri or long depending on the weather. I love my nike fly knits because they are so comfortable so those would be my shoes. A comfy sports bra with a tank over it for the workout and then something like the coral sweater you had in the beginning of the blog to put over my shirt when I am done and ready to go get some coffee. I wish I could stay in workout clothes all day!
Kristina D says
Black leggings with a long sleeve purple fitted dry fit top, black nike fly knits (and throw on a cream colored scarf when outside)
Alice says
My ideal outfit would be patterned leggings and a plain colored top–but a top that’s not too tight, because I hate having my arms and upper body constricted when I work out!
Janel says
Such cute outfits! I want that pink sweater top you are wearing 🙂 I would ideally wear leggings/tights with an oversized sweater or zip up hoodie at all times + a scarf. Fashionable yet functional!
Mackenzie says
I tend to go for all black outfits… black Asics, socks, go-dry compression pants and quarter zip jacket. I usually add some color with my tops, but I’m still too afraid to try patterned leggings! I love layering with my Barbour if it’s chilly or we go hiking. I usually have comfy sandals to change in to if I’m going out afterwards because I hate shoes!
Amanda Hopkins says
I love love love leggings! My favorite time to wear workout gear is in the summer. I love wearing cute printed leggings with a bright workout tank top. I love how you can wear the tank with a cute printed sports bra and still look classy.
Heather Thornburg says
My ideal outfit is good quality breathable black leggings with a light and thin long-sleeve tshirt (preferably oversized). And a bright color! To make me look tan 😉
Trina says
I would definitely describe my style as sporty chic! Within the past two years, I have dedicated my life to fitness and therefore I squeeze in a workout between classes, brunches, and work. So I really like an outfit that is functional for that kind of spontaneous life style. I love a pop of color as I am really girly and it makes me feel feminine as well as leggings to accentuate the hard work I’ve put in the gym. I’m a big fan of off the shoulder sweaters or backless workout shirts that show off my sports bra. If there is anything I’ve learned, sporty can be fashionable too!
Megan Ambler says
My ideal outfit would be crazy patterned leggings (I love them even if my husband doesn’t) and an over-sized crew-neck sweatshirt. I love to be comfortable, but colorful!
Dana says
My perfect workout outfit are black leggings, either long or cropped. A colorful top, and a warm, soft, zip up hoodie preferably in grey. My favorite feeling in the world is the cozy that is called hoodie lol.
Lauren N says
I love wearing comfy capri leggings in black! They keep me warm when I need it, but let me feel cool if I’m exercising or out and about on a warmer day. Then I’ll add a bright sports bra layered under a flowy, neutral colored top. I have grey Nike shoes with a bright coral logo that look perfect with every outfit. Then I’ll throw my hair up in a ponytail, add some cute stud earrings and a watch, now I’m ready to go!
Ashlee says
I love a pair of black yoga pants with a white tee. Add my chambray button up and some tall brown boots and I’m office ready!
Christine says
I love wearing really brightly colored or patterened leggings as they just add a colorful pop to my outfit. I’d wear that along with a white long-sleeve to run errands after a workout!
Amanda says
I work a full time job, a part time job and I’m an online health and fitness coach so I love anything versatile! Comfortable leggings and a sweater with a thank underneath is a great outfit and one of my go-tos quite often! That way I can just change my shirt and throw on my sneakers!
Eleni says
Oooooh hmmmm my favorite style of outfit for all of those occasions would probably have to be boots, black leggings, and a comfortable, flowing top!
Asheton Brown says
Straying from the black, going with a hint of color with my spandex, some sportswear shoes. And I’d snag a vest to go over my coordinating top!
Hannah Callahan says
I’m a college student, so comfort and style is key when I have a full day. I usually pair a bright top with my lululemon black tights and change from duck boots or chacos into my nikes for workouts.
Alexa Evans says
Comfy thick leggings and a not too fitted sweater or pull over are my favorite go to for going from a workout to coffee break!
Jordan says
Two-tone black leggings, an oversized sweater, and a cup of coffee as the ultimate accessory 😉
Kristen Noy says
My ideal outfit happen to be these navy lululemon leggings they are what I like to call my butter pants. They are so comfortable and I can seriously live in them everyday. Then I’ll put a flowy tee or a workout tank. I also love a pair of Nike fly knits and a nice big smoothie at hand.
Samantha says
My ideal outfit would include grey or black leggings with a colored top. Not too tight, in between loose and fitted!
Kaitlyn says
My go-to is black leggings (preferably with a cute print or cutout on the sides) a colorful workout tank, and a zip-up hoodie/track jacket. I’m loving the Lucy brand right now. It’s little too casual for work, but soooo comfy for errands or lounging! 😀
Amanda says
My go-to workout attire is usually cropped leggings (my legs are too short for the “ankle” length, they’d go over my feet!) that are black or a fun dark-colored print. I like to pair them with a cute, loose-fitting top, varying between tanks and short-sleeved shirts, depending on what I plan on doing! My favorite brand tops are Nike and UnderArmour. If I’m going outside I like to cover up with a cute Nike hoodie to keep warm.
Taralynn I’ve been following your blog for years and it’s definitely one of my favorites! Please continue to post more about your workout wear and routines as well as healthy meals! 🙂
Nicole says
I wear workout clothing basically any time I’m not in the office or out somewhere where actual pants or a real bra are required. I love dark heather-grey or black leggings paired with a neon sports bra and a bright, loose-fit racerback tank. I live in Florida so it is HOT here most of the year. I keep a hoodie in my car just in case it cools off in the evening but something about the flowy, loose tanks that play off of men’s muscle tees make me feel cool and feminine and extra fit!
Courtney says
Colorful leggings, or bright shoes and black leggings. I live in the boonies, so bright colors are especially important so that nobody thinks you’re an animal!!
Ashley C. says
I can’t get away with workout clothes at my work, dressy office wear only. The rest of the time, at home or on the weekends running errands or chasing around my son, I love color leggings, a sports bra, and a comfy, lose fitting tank top or sweater!
Melissa says
I live in workout clothes! Dressing up for me is putting on jeans, and I prefer to not have to dress up. My ideal outfit is Nike running shorts and a loose fitting dri fit shir. Either long sleeve if it’s cool out or short sleeve when it’s warm. I have not found a pair of work out compression pants that fit well. They all seem to stretch out or I am constantly having to pull them up because they start sagging.
Kelli says
I’m really simple when it comes to attire. Unforunately I can’t wear leggings to the office. My ideal outfit is always black leggings and a slightly dressy/cute, but very comfy top. Gap clothing would best describe my style…casual and comfy. 🙂
Julie says
My favorite outfit is black leggings with some sort of bright color detailing, a loose bright colored tank, my grey jacket with thumb holes and black nikes. I would love to get some lululemon leggings some day cuz I’ve heard they’re amazing but need to save up:(
christina p says
I love my hooded top, black leggings, and nikes for a casual weekend.
Amber says
My ideal outfit for working out are a nice pair of black leggings I can assure won’t be see through or show sweat, and a nice, loose, short sleeve shirt that doesn’t make me feel self conscious since I tend to stick to gyms with dozens of people surrounding me. Like you, I like to go grab a coffee (at the local Starbucks) or go grab a salad with friends at our campus memorial union, so an outfit that is easy to make into casual attire is a MUST! 🙂 My job requires me to dress up, but that never stops me from wearing leggings with a nicer top ;D
Carol Kumm says
Long sleeve t-shirt, scarf, black yoga pants and work shoes…makes athletic wear look like work wear so I can get in a quick lunch time workout without needing to change too much!
Melinda says
An ideal workout outfit that I can also wear out to coffee or lunch with my friends would be neutral colored compression leggings (Can’t go wrong with black), a tank top with a looser top or workout sweater that can go over with Nike on bottom. You can’t go wrong with the Nike Free Runs. Their light weight and less bulkier style makes it easy to pull off on a normal day.
Alex D says
I’m an elementary PE teacher and I like to layer up with workout clothes to teach my classes. Sometimes my gym is really cold and other times I am out there sweating with the kids. I love to wear cropped leggings with a cute shirt and a comfy sweater or sweatshirt over the top. I also love Under Armour headbands for a cute and easy way to keep my hair out of my face.
Lindsey says
I basically live in workout clothes! My ideal outfit is one that can be altered slightly, such as adding a scarf or changing from work shoes to running shoes. I like variety too, so an outfit that has a little pop of color (that is also comfortable) would be perfect for looking good while running errands after a workout!
Laura says
I pretty much live in workout clothes- more often than not, I go to class/run errands/or just spend my day in my leggings, sneakers, a cute colored top, and sports bra. I love all these bright colors and patterned leggings – all of these outfits make up my ideal day to day wardrobe!
Allison says
My go to is black leggings and a quarter zip with a pop of color in a tank underneath! I love that it can transition from errands, to volunteering at church to heading to the gym! A little casual for work but I have done errands running around for work and felt totally comfortable and professional. I love dicks sporting goods for clothing- such a good selection.
Jillian says
My typical weekend outfit consists of black leggings, a great sports bra, and a comfy long sleeve or sweatshirt! However if I did win this giveaway I wouldn’t mind going outside of my comfort zone and trying a fun pattern legging or bright colored sweat shirt!
Allyson says
I think unfortunately the only workout outfit I could get away with at my office is plain black leggings with a flowy top or loose sweater – that way, you could even hide a workout tank underneath. But I’d rather just bring a change of clothes anyways, because my preferred workout outfit is crazy patterned leggings and one of my old band t-shirts that I don’t wear often but can’t bring myself to give away!
Kayla says
My ideal outfit is black leggings and a warm, comfy sweater. I love lounging around with my friends or going to get coffee with them. This outfit allows me to look stylish while still being super comfortable! It is still a little chilly where I am, so the outfit is perfect for a run before meeting up with my friends.
Kelsey K says
My go-to workout outfit is solid yoga/capris leggings along with a bright tank top and my purple lifting shoes. I love having a comfy/cute sports bra along with a nice sweatshirt or jacket. I honestly have been to so many coffee/dinner dates with girlfriends right after a workout, so I am sure everyone has seen some crazy outfits from me!
BreAnne says
I love a nice black compression legging with a long fitted tank top and a loose running long sleeve or sweater to go over top. I pair it with my favorite black sneakers and I’m out the door! What a great giveaway!
Brittany C says
Ideal workout gear: black leggings, bright running shoes, and tank top (I hate wearing t-shirts when running because I fee constricted). I do get cold easily, though, so I usually bring a hoodie or cardigan along, as well as sandals to change into after!
Nicole says
Love a good pair of comfortable neutral leggings, sneakers, and a flowy top or fleece in the winter!
Anne D says
My idea outfit always includes some type of leggings, a loose fitting workout t (with a built in sports bra or sports bra) and a hooded sweatshirt or pullover – and sneaks or bean boots (depending on the time of year!)
Rachel says
My dream outfit is a pair of ankle-length compression leggings in a fun color or print, paired with a solid loose-fitting short-sleeve shirt made out of something soft, comfy, and breatheable. A good-quality sports bra underneath is a must!!! Finish it off with some comfy bright running shoes and I’m ready to rumble 🙂
Kim says
High rise leggings, a comfy long-sleeve T, with a fabulous hoodie
Alyssa says
I’m a nurse who loves to workout, so when I’m not in scrubs I’m in workout clothes! I love leggings to run or bike in, and they’re nice for cooler weather. I love all of the fun colors and variety of patterns they have! As for tops, I love jackets and sweatshirts that are super comfortable and soft (that sweater above in your post is super adorable and I probably should go buy it right now 😉 ). Thanks for having this giveaway!
Amy Pedroza says
I am obsessed with wearing leggings with a long short sleeve shirt (our school gym doesn’t allow us to wear tanks 🙁 ) to work out in and then transition to class, dinner, or coffee. My friend and I usually workout before our math class so being able to look cute even after a workout is nice. I also have to have a sweatshirt to layer over my shirt because no matter what I am always cold.
Heather says
My dream workout/brunch outfit would be leggings of course! Preferably compression! I love keeping everything tight and you know you look good with everything squeezed in! I would love them in a fun color, in red or pink, although, I am not much of a pattern person. I would wear a workout tank top underneath, with an appropriately loose fitting sweater on top. I love the fun ones with the twist in the back that I’ve been seeing! The sweater would be super soft and stretchy! I would wear fun colored socks with my never-disappointing Asics! Top it off with a scarf for brunch with my hair up in a pony!
Kelsey says
I work in sales so I dress business casual for work and then head to the gym right after work. My go- to is a long sleeve tee and a cute scarf! Can’t go wrong. You can go with khaki’s or dress pants at work and switch into yoga’s or leggings after work.
PS. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I already saw the ring comments but Im commenting on it because I noticed right away! Are you SURE there is something you’re not telling us? I’m waiting for the day 🙂 my wedding is in April and I was hoping you’d get engaged so I could read your planning posts as I was planning 🙂

Hi Taralynn! I’ve been following your blog for years and actually enjoy the sponsored posts! It’s nice to learn more about new things in the health world.
My ideal outfit would be full length black workout leggings paired with a flowy top, boots, and a scarf by day. After work I can add a workout tank and my go to sneakers at the moment (I love colorful sneakers! That’s why I usually stick to black pants – balances everything out!) to hit the gym.
Your posts have always been so inspiring – I look forward to them and mention your blog in conversation constantly!!
Kaiko says
I’m a huge mint and coral fan, so any way I can fit those into my workout clothes I try to. One of my favorite combo that can be worn in different settings is a pair of mint running capris with a navy blue and white striped loose sweatshirt. I usually pair that with a coral undershirt that you can only see on one shoulder because the sweater hangs off. If it’s leg day at the gym I pair it with a pair of flats that look like Toms shoes. It’s perfect to go out in or hit the gym.
Whit says
I LOVE DICKS SPORTING GOODS AND YOUR BLOG!!!!
Stacie says
yoga pants and an off the shoulder sweatshirt!
Salina says
My ideal outfit would be capri length leggings and a light weight long sleeve top that I can workout in and looks good enough to run some errands.
Shannon Parker says
My ideal outfit is a pair of yoga/running pants with a comfy tank top or t-shirt, and a sweatshirt with pockets. I love to pair my outfits with either my Nike or Sketchers tennis shoes. In this changing weather, I add a scarf to my outfit. Layers are key (I get colder than my co-workers), so I try to find clothes that allow for layering but also keep me at a comfortable temperature. I find all my stuff at TJ Maxx/Marshalls and Kohls. I have to have an article of clothing with pockets and nothing can restrict movement. I work at an aftercare center in an elementary school, so an outfit that is comfortable, moveable, and fashionable are key (I still have to look professional while I’m playing with the kids). Sometimes after work I’ll meet up with my parents for a dinner out, so having stylish clothes are a must!
I cannot wait to go check out Dick’s, that sweater/scarf combo is gorgeous and definitely something that I need to add to my wardrobe rotation.
Question- can you do a post about 1) clothing storage, and another post about 2)taking the plunge and getting rid of clothes that you like but don’t fit the way you want them to. Thanks!
Ashley Andrews says
I love wearing leggings with a long tunic and a sweater, or a long sweater with a sweater of sorts. Paired with boots of almost any kind it’s so comfortable and versatile to run around all day in!
Christina says
You can never go wrong with black leggings and a long, loose, dark grey short sleeve shirt or sweatshirt (in the style you reviewed)! I’m not one for bright colors so this tends to be my go-to when I want something comfortable; usually either with sneakers for a workout or boots for running errands 🙂
Crystal says
Compression leggings and an oversized top. Usually in dark colors!
Kami says
I live in Arizona, so my ideal outfit (although it wouldn’t pass at work) is a comfy pair of running shorts and a loose-fitting t-shirt or racerback tank. It’s generally the first thing I change into when I get home from work every day, and is always my weekend wear.
Ashley Chaney says
I love wearing cropped leggings and a neutral tank, so I can work out in them, but throw on a cardigan and wear them out (or to work) as well ?
Sarah says
My ideal outfit would consist of stylish clothes that can be used for weight lifting, yoga , running, taking the puppy out, cleaning the house, running errands as well as going to class! With such a busy life I seem to live in leggings because when I get home I am more likely to workout if I am already in my workout clothes! I love wearing leggings, a nice sports bra and a loose t-shirt or sweater over top!
I am a long time reader and fan of yours , keep up the good and inspiring work Taralynn!
Katrina says
The ideal outfit I think of is long grey or black compression leggings (works with any toe of shoe when changing on the go) and a sports bra with a nice back (caged back or a back Luke many lululemon bras have), the top for spring would be a tank that crosses in the back and flares open at the open making it a peek a boo for the lower back. For winter a crew sweater with a low back. The flirty design of the bra peaks just enough not to be too over the top. A high ponytail makes any look chic. All of this stuff is comfortable to move in, and airy enough not to pile on excess sweat or body heat from constantly moving.
Ashley says
I love workout clothes that are stylish and comfy at the same time. Stylish because they make me confident while I work out and comfy so I can keep working out. Lol. The ones I get are from Scheels and Kohls. Also cute comfy workout clothes are great on clearance racks at Old Navy when end of season hits. Thanks for the tip! I will check out Dicks Sporting Goods for there workout clothing line.
Danielle T says
i really love work out leggings/capris with my bright sneakers
Kayla says
I’m the type of person that 9 times out of 10 always has to have my schedule filled with something or I feel restless. Black (or mostly black with some color) are my go to leggings. I just got back into running, so I would prefer something with a wick fabric. I would love to pair it with a loose tank top, that I could throw a cardigan over when I’m in the office, and then be able to change into tennis shoes and go to the gym after work. We also have a treadmill in our office, so it would be wonderful to be able to utilize it in attire that I don’t have to worry about getting “nasty” per se.
Sharon says
New to this and to working out so I love a black pair of yoga pants with my saucony sneeks and pink jacket and tank under.
Jen D. says
An ideal workout outfit includes compression pants and a comfy top. Adding a scarf to anything makes it look nicer for post workout!! 🙂
Jess says
my favorite clothes to work out in are a pair of leggings and a tank. usually with something on top during the colder months
Kelsey F. says
The dress code at my office is pretty strict. Because of this, blazers are a go to item for me. I love that you can take a loose fitting long tank top, add a blazer and maybe a scarf/necklace, and instantly look put together.
P.S. I’m seeing something sparkly on your finger! Are congratulations in order? 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
No! Just a gift from my aunt for my birthday. It’s an opal! 🙂 not engaged.

My ideal outfit is my yoga pants (grey or black) with a comfy flowy top (it has to be brightly colored and cheery) worn with a cute bra underneath. 🙂
Kassie K. says
My ideal outfit to wear EVERYWHERE would be workout leggings with a longer tank top and a sweater. I love throwing riding boots on with this look. I can wear this to the office and hot the gym after. I also teach dance all day on Saturdays. This outfit lets me move around and teach my girls, but then I can look cute and run errand afterwards!
steff says
same ideal outfit as you!
Danielle says
I love a fun pair of leggings…a nice bold print and then a solid top (V neck only!), I usually go with black. And bright sneakers! That’s for a workout…For a more casual hang, I still like print on the bottom, but something darker and more subtle, but still a solid top (I have a D chest so I try to minimize it a bit) and a nice light sweater or jacket. Love Sanuk flip flops with the yoga mat bottom so my feet are always nice and comfy!
Jordan D. says
If I want to pull off the “I’m not wearing fitness apparel” look, I’d go for black or grey compression leggings with a fitted t-shirt and a half-zip or athletic tunic. I’m such a huge fan of fun patterned leggings though, and I love wearing them to run errands or just hang out in on weekends!
Kristin says
My favorite outfit would have to be black running leggings with a comfy sports bra and a cute charcoal or mint colored top!!

I love a great pair of black pants 🙂
Annie says
Unfortunately I can’t rock this wear at work but I change into it as soon as I get home and wear it on the weekends! My ideal outfit would be bright, fun, full length compression tights with a neutral color tank or tshirt and a flowy, cozy cardigan to drape over it to run errands or meet friends for brunch!
Sarah from WI says
My ideal outfit are some jeans with stretch in them and a comfy long sleeved v-neck tee.
Chantel Brown says
I love my running leggings, and I will pair that with a comfy bra, and long sleeve top and a warm vest that I put on to warm up. I love wearing this around the house or running errands around town.
Rachael says
My ideal outfit is something very similar to the mannequin with the infiniti scarf. I love a good scarf that can be worn to keep warm in lieu of a jacket if I’m just running around doing errands or meeting for breakfast. I almost always pick yoga pants or leggings with black in them because they go with everything! I’m also super pale so no bright colors for me or else I look ghost like. A comfy shirt that isn’t skin tight is perfect to feel comfortable working out in or having too many mimosas at brunch!

I feel most comfortable in running leggings with my favorite sports bra, a cowl sweatshirt, comfy socks and my black nikes! By the way, I’m literally wearing this now, haha!

Tribal print leggings, an oversized sweater, some sort of colorful scarf, boots, and a little bit of jewelry!

My all time favorite thing to wear while working out is my Dad’s old Army tee, leggings, and my Nikes! Add a good terrible braid (if I had to braid to save my life, I’d die) and I’m all set! If I have to run to the store where people will see me, I usually will throw a sweatshirt on, but it’s been so cold outside I’ve been able to wear my parka. That pretty much covers my entire outfit, lol!

For me it’s Reebok, I can wear their Active Dry line to the gym and out right after. The dry wick technology is great and the price is right. They also make a LuLu inspired lightweight long sleeved shirt with the deep cowl neck. So cute!!!

Wowza- you really have grown your readership since I first started following your blog- congrats on that! Also, I love dicks sporting goods – I just bought some new mizuno running shoes online from there. My favorite workout clothes are typically nike running shorts and a racerback, loose fitting tank. If its cold, then long leggings & a windbreaker jacket!

I love colored running leggings with a flowy solid workout top! Just switch out your running shoes for boots and off you go. Unfortunately, our work dress code specifies “no yoga pants”, but this can work for social outings!

I often run errands after a workout…because I know once I get home, shower and eat…I won’t want to leave again 🙂 I like muscle tank tops, long sleeve shirts and long leggings. I like bright colors but I have been wanting to get more black, white and gray pieces!

I actually took advantage of the yoga last year and loved it. I can’t wait for it again this year. The races all look fun! I really love living near my parents after missing them for years, it’s great to have them close to me!

I love love love workout capris (preferably black/grey) paired with a simple tank. Then I throw a thin, loose sweatshirt over it for running errands or grabbing coffee. Simple, comfy, and somehow I feel like it makes me LOOK productive, and then I feel more productive. Silly but true.

Love leggings! Capri leggings, full length leggings, all leggings! Sooo comfortable. You can dress it up, dress it down, and workout in them. My ideal outfit would have to be a pair of leggings, a flowy shirt or long sleeved shirt, and my Nikes of course!
