Mother’s day can be overwhelming when it comes to gift shopping. Does mom want jewelry, flowers, cupcakes, gift cards? Let be real, we all know she’s lying when she says “she doesn’t way anything for Mother’s day”. This year after contemplating gifts, I decided to make her a gift basket full of little things.
My mom use to make gift baskets a lot. I stole some of her ideas for the packaging. These were super cheap to make too. I made one for my mom and Jeremy’s mom. I spent a total of $90.00 on the both of them. Normally gift baskets are way too expensive. That is why making them yourself is smarter and more personal.
You don’t have to make the baskets this large either. You can make them small filled with a couple items. I might make this my go to gift for holidays and special occasions.
You will need:
-2 baskets (these were purchased at Home Goods for $9.99 a piece.)
-Fillers (gifts, candles, snacks, coffee, etc…)
Line the baskets with tissue paper and top with paper grass.
-Plastic Wrap (purchased at Michael’s Arts & Crafts)
-Ribbon (Wired) If you do not know how to tie bows, you can buy pre-tied bows.
-Shredded Paper Scraps AKA Paper Grass.
-Clear Tape
-You can either make your basket follow a theme or you can fill it with random items. I took the random route. I picked up a bunch of fun goodies at farmers markets, Whole Foods and TJ Maxx.
-Pecans from a small farm in southern Georgia.
-Pistachio Trail Mix
-Cinnamon Cranberry Stix
-My mom’s favorite, black licorice.
-Ground Flax for Jeremy’s mom. I got her hooked.
-The Hampton Popcorn. Kit Kat Crunch…yum!
-Wholesome Deluxe Mix
I wanted this basket to contain a mixture of healthy goodies and sinful goodies.
-Salt Water Taffy
-Lemon Snaps
-Key Lime Coconut Patties
-I filled the baskets with a ton of flavored jellies and jams picked up at Farmers Markets in Southern Georgia.
-We stopped at the plantation on the way here to pick up a couple jars as well.
-Jeremy’s mom is a popcorn addict, like myself, so I picked her up a variety of popcorn flavors. I like these brands because they are all natural and gluten free.
-I always pick up a bottle of wine for my mom on mothers day, so I found fun chocolates that pair up with wine. She’ll love these.
-Candy filled with almond cream that are 26 calories a piece. I have a feeling my dad will steal these ones.
-My mom and I are both black licorice lovers. I bought her these spin wheels. We use to take these to the beach when I was a little kid. I’m sure these will bring back a lot of memories.
-After stuffing the baskets with paper grass, I organized the basket with all the goodies.
– I placed the taller items in the back to make the basket look it’s fullest.
-Roll out the plastic wrap and place the basket gently on top.
-Wrap the plastic paper around the basket, bringing the ends to the center top.
-Tip the ends together with clear tape.
-Try to make it as tight as possible, but be careful not to tare the wrap.
-Unravel the ribbon and tie it into a bow.
-Tie it around the center.
-I know my bow is kind of sloppy, but I tried! Mom won’t care after she sees her black licorice 😉 I need to take a bow tying lesson from my mom. Her’s are perfect.
Now, I have to keep my mom busy and occupied so she doesn’t look at my blog for the next 24 hours!

Wow this looks amazing. Do you have any idea what should I fill it with for my grandma who has diabetes? I have no idea, it’s really hard to choose something that wouldn’t hurt her in any way 🙁

Maybe you could find diabetes cook books or make her some diabetes baked goods! Fill it with sugar free candies? Or skip the food and go with kitchen supplies!
Natalie says
Alright, thank you 🙂

I was JUST on all those flower sites looking at crazy expensive baskets to mail to my mom. This is such a great idea, so much cheaper! And I can mail it for free from my work 🙂
Thanks for the idea!!

I love this idea! So many great snacks in there and like you said, this could be done for any occasions! My mum lives on the other side of the world, so I already posted her Mother’s day gift a few days ago. And because I can’t send her any cake, I did a blog post about what I would have baked for her 🙂

Thanks for such a great idea! Love it!

Those are so cute! You spent $90 on just making the baskets (the supplies, etc) or including what you put in them?
Taralynn McNitt says
On everything!

I’m definitely making one for my mom this year! Here are some non-food ideas I’m including… A book, new Scentsy smells, and garden accessories!

The baskets look great but I couldn’t take my eyes off of that blue dresser… did you refurb it yourself or was it just a lucky find?!

I noticed you used the roll plastic wrap. Do you ever have issues of the sides being too short? If so, any tips on how you fix it? Thanks much!

That is adorable!

Where did you find the Hampton Company popcorn?
