  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla
  • 2 Cups Gluten-Free Flour or all-purpose

Chocolate Buttercream
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter
  • 3 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
Dirt Cookie Toppings

Instructions

Baking Chocolate Cookie (gluten-free)

  • Using an electric mixer with a paddle attachment, beat the room temperature butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs and vanilla until fully combined (about 1 minute.)
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the gluten-free flour (or all-purpose flour), unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and sea salt.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the mixer with the wet ingredients. Mix on low speed until combined. If the dough is too dry, add 1 tablespoon of heavy cream or whole milk.
    Refrigerate dough for 1-24 hours.
  • Once the dough is chilled, it's time to form the cookies!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Scoop and roll the dough into balls (about 90 grams each) and place them 3 inches apart. For shaping, gently roll the dough into balls and lightly press them down.
  • Bake the cookies for 15-17 minutes. The centers will be gooey, but allow them to continue cooking on the baking sheet.

Chocolate Buttercream

  • Microwave the butter until melted.
Mix in the sifted powdered sugar, followed by the milk, vanilla, and sifted cocoa powder until smooth and creamy.
If the mixture is too runny, add more powdered sugar. If it's too thick, add more milk.
For an extra fluffy texture, use an electric mixer.

Decorate the Dirt Cookies!

  • Add about 3 tablespoons of chocolate buttercream to each room-temperature cookie. Top with cookie crumbles, dye-free green sprinkles, and dye-free gummy worms.
