A Day Trip to Verona, Italy | Best Spots to Eat & Explore!
I’m wrapping up my Europe blog series, and I only have a few cities left to cover (just wait until you see the photos of Lake Garda!) I I know it’s taken me forever, but I took over 4,000 photos during our two-week trip! The Verona, Italy blog will be shorter than the others since it was just a day trip on our way from Asolo to Lake Garda.
An hour into our exploration of Verona, Italy, we realized we had made a mistake. We should have planned to stay at least one night in the city. Only being there for half a day felt like the ultimate tease. Despite the rain, we didn’t let it stop us from exploring the charming shops, stunning historic landmarks, picturesque bridges, incredible desserts, and cool restaurants. Verona looked exactly how I had always pictured Italy in my head. As soon as we arrived, I ordered a cappuccino with a view of the arena—it was perfect! Looking back at these photos has me already dreaming about my next trip. I wanted to see so much more of Verona, Italy! I’m going to come back for sure, and hopefully, during a warm sunny day! I hear the gardens are gorgeous.
Verona is often called “Little Rome” and is famously known as the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Verona was one of those places in Italy where we didn’t have a plan. We found a parking garage, hopped out, and just went with the flow! I led us to Piazza Brà, the biggest piazza in Verona, so we could check out the Arena, I could grab a coffee, and Kyle could get some breakfast. It was such an easy drive—only about an hour from Asolo—and the perfect spot to explore for the afternoon.

There are so many restaurants and cafés lining the sidewalks of Piazza Brà, and almost all of them come with an amazing view of the Arena.
Piazza Brà
The Piazza Brà dates all the way back to the 16th century!

We found a cozy little spot to have coffee and breakfast outside of the Arena, Ristorante Caffe Vittorio Emanuele.
Ristorante Caffe Vittorio Emanuele
This restaurant was elegant and stunning inside, yet more casual on the outside! It’s been around since 1895, and walking through the doors feels like stepping into an elegant time machine.

I was still full from breakfast at the hotel in Asolo, but I can never turn down a cream-stuffed croissant and a delicious cappuccino. My husband ordered an omelet and said it was one of the best he’s ever had. It was so cozy sitting there, watching the rain fall over the Arena. We ended up staying for a good hour, just relaxing and people-watching.

The Verona Arena is a Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra in Verona, Italy, built in 30 AD.
The Verona Arena is one of the iconic landmarks you cannot miss in the city. Built way back in the 1st century, it’s still standing strong and hosting concerts and operas today! It’s massive, with those stunning stone arches that give you a real sense of its ancient history. We would have done a tour if we had more time, but we’ll save that for the next visit!

After touring some gardens are churches, we walked over to Piazza Dei Signori for lunch and shopping!
Piazza dei Signori
We met a family from Atlanta, Georgia, and if you’ve been to Italy, you know a lot of tables are joined together. We ended up chatting with them the whole time, and the couple was exactly where I want to be when I’m their age. Their son, a successful navy pilot, was visiting, and they were spending months in Italy together while working, using Verona as their base for a while. They were such a nice family and truly inspiring! They gave us a lot of tips for traveling, and exploring Verona!

I’m not sure if these restaurants even realize how authentically and aesthetically cool they are, but I couldn’t stop snapping photos!

We ordered a bunch of food to share: a delicious sandwich with caramelized onions, burrata, balsamic, turkey, tomatoes, and lettuce on ciabatta, prosciutto-wrapped cantaloupe, and a salad with sun-dried tomatoes and more burrata. The food was gorgeous and amazing. I have recreated the cantaloupe with prosciutto multiple times since we’ve been home!
After filling up, we shopped the vendors and stores around the Piazza Dei Signori!

I picked up so many cute little toys for my son! Pinocchio toys and dolls were everywhere in Italy, since that’s where the story originated!
Piazza delle Erbe

And you better believe I picked up some inappropriately shaped pasta for my friends!

There are so many gorgeous bridges in Verona to walk across!
Arco dei Gavi & Ponte Pietra – Stone Bridge
The Ponte Pietra Stone Bridge was so cool! It had little open outlooks made of brick to step up on to see the city. Everyone was so historic and gorgeous.
We also walked by so many cute coffee shops that I took note of for next time we visit!

You all know I’m a TikTok addict, and I’ve seen so many people trying chocolate-covered strawberries! When I saw them all over Verona, I just had to try them—and chocolate-covered strawberries are my husband’s favorite dessert.
Strawberries with Melted Chocolate in Verona, Italy
We got ours at Venchi because they have THE BEST chocolate ever.
Verona Hidden History!
If you go into the store United Colors of Benetton, take the elevator to the kids level. The entire center of the floor has 1st century AD Roman Domus (2nd Century AD tiles) and Medieval walls inside. It was really cool!

Another city, another day of pistachio gelato! I made sure to try pistachio gelato everywhere I went!
Venchi Gelato
I also bought the pistachio cream and seriously made the mistake of not buying 100 more jars to bring home. Kyle and I ate it and scraped every last bit when we got home. It’s that good, and the ones I’ve ordered online don’t even come close to how amazing this one was.

I hope you enjoyed the photos from our quick little afternoon trip to Verona! I cannot wait to go back. I have been working on the Lake Garda blogs, but may have to split those up since there was soooo many photos to take. It was so gorgeous.
Questions for you!
- Have you been to Verona?
- What is your favorite day trip destination?
- Where was the last place you traveled?
COMING UP ON LAKE GARDA…

The restaurant has two stories! I highly recommend heading upstairs to grab a table with a view of the piazza. You can even sit outside on the balcony, where tiny French doors open up to a few tables. The place is elegant yet rustic, with plenty of meat and cheese boards, great drinks, fresh salads, and even some souvenirs! It’s super cozy and definitely has a romantic vibe.

Hi Taralynn! Your pictures from Italy are so beautiful!
I have never been to Verona but I have been to Italy probably around 20 times. There are so many places there to visit! But Verona is definitely on my list, I would love to explore more Tuscany!
The last place we traveled was London, it looked amazing with all the Christmas decorations 🙂 And before that we spent 3 weeks in Japan, it was absolutely fabulous. It was in October and I am still editing pictures from that trip and sharing them on my SM, I took so many! So I totally get why it takes you so long to share your pictures from Italy.
I can´t wait to see your adventures from Garda!
Hi, Milena!
