Snickers Apple Salad: Saturday Football Grub

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On Saturday, Emilee and I went over to a friends house to watch football. (GO HAWKEYES) You can’t just go empty handed, so we made bacon wrapped little smokies and snickers apple salad. Growing up, my aunt, Rosanne, always made this dish and it was incredible! It’s a fun dessert that makes you think of fall and caramel apples. Plus it’s super easy and inexpensive for the amount it makes.

It seems like an odd combinations, but it’s one of the best ones out there. Everyone loved it and I ate way too much!

Ingredients: 8 Granny Smith Apples, 8 Snickers Bars, 5-6 OZ Package Vanilla Pudding Mix, 1 Cup of Milk, 16 OZ Cool Whipe, 1 1/2 Cup of Chocolate Covered Peanuts.

-Dice up apples.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Slice up the snickers, but save one for the top.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Chop each snickers into about 18 pieces.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The hardest part is not eating them…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Coffee helps the temptation and fills the empty hole.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Set the bowl of snickers and apples aside.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In a large mixing bowl, mix together the pudding package and milk.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mix until the pudding is clump free and thick.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Add the unthawed cool whip to the pudding mixture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My cool whip wasn’t fully unthawed so I grabbed the hand mixer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Stir in the apples and snickers.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mix in the chocolate covered peanuts!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Add the salad to a serving bowl.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dice the extra snickers bar and add it to the top of the serving dish.

I chose melted chocolate for the top of mine because I forgot to buy caramel at the grocery store, and didn’t feel like making any.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Drizzle the chocolate or caramel on top.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Refrigerate the salad for an hour before serving!

  1. Hi,
This is the craziest combo I have ever heard! I wouldn’t ever imagine apple and Snickers together (surprising as I think about Snickers about every 2.4 seconds)
I am definitely going ot try this (in perhaps a 1/4 mixture to try first – god forbid i waste 8 Snickers if I don’t like it!)
But god I hope I love it to surprise everyone at upcoming BBQ’s etc. 🙂

  2. YUM! My grandma makes this on occasion, though she never puts chocolate covered peanuts in it. Interesting! Oh, and just FYI you have been writing “unthawed” when you mean “thawed.” Just thought I would let you know in case you wanted to go back and edit!

  3. hey taralynn, ive been a fan of yours for a long time,im in love with your blog, well my small sister has an english project in which she is suppossed to interview someone important, and to me you are a very important person so i was wondering if you would agree. email me if you can. thnks and sorry.

  4. Oh my gosh it looks so good! I would have a very hard time not eating it all!

  5. wow that looks amazing! I love this time of year when caramel apple and pumpkin flavored food is in season! I don’t really watch football, but this would definitely be a good snack for a group hangout!

  6. Had a girls weekend to celebrate my birthday and I made this…it was a hit!
Still snacking on it tonight 😉

  7. It says you need 5-60z packages of pudding and 1 CUP OF MILK.
1 50z pudding package requires 2 cups of milk… so is it 1 cup per package ?

    1. Because you’re adding cool whip to the recipe, you only need 1 cup of milk. You won’t get the “pudding” texture in this recipe. It’s more of a fluff.

      1. Oh ok!! Thank you!! 🙂 Making it today!

  8. Great recipe!! Thanks for sharing it 🙂 I make it for our “family” dinner last night with friends and I think it was a bigger hit than the venison my boyfriend cooked! I substituted the chocolate covered peanuts for regular dry roasted, salted peanuts and raisins. So delicious!!!

  9. my kids are obsessed with this recipe
