Summer Day Shopping & Coffee Downtown York South Carolina
Good afternoon! Oh, & happy August!
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing weekend. I spent almost all of my weekend reading Where the Crawdad’s Sing and teared up when I finished. Next, I have The Great Alone sitting on my nightstand waiting to be read next. I appreciate all of your book recommendations and can’t wait to get through a lot of them. Looks like we’ll be getting a lot of rain from the hurricane and that calls for a cup of tea and reading.
One of my favorite things to do lately has been stopping into local coffee shops and boutiques around the area. It’s important to show them support during these times, and I’ve loved all the fun items I’ve found for my home and closet along the way. I wanted to hop on the blog today to share a quick little visit to York, SC. It’s about 35-minutes outside of Charlotte, and it’s an adorable town with hidden gems.
One of my favorite spots is a boutique called Southern Pagoda. It has everything from adorable clothing, purses, gifts, home decor, and more. Every time I stop in there, I find something I just have to have. This Kimono and my purse are from there. I had them order the bag in a few more colors because it’s my favorite. If you live in the Charlotte area, definitely make the drive to check it out.
Supporting local businesses right now is so important. Many of them were shut down for long periods of time, and you can still support while keeping your distance as well as wearing masks while inside the stores. Down the street, we stopped at Southern Touch Bakery.
How do you even choose?
They had the cutest little shop inside with a huge menu. I’m looking forward to stopping back in there for lunch. The cafe & bakery is an old gas station and there is a ton of outdoor seating. I bet it’s going to be so cute in the fall. You’ll know where to find me.
The most delicious black coffee!
I just realized that most of my recent purchases have all been blue and white. I ordered some clothes for a bed and breakfast kyle and I are staying at for his birthday, and every dress was blue!
I can’t wait to explore more local coffee shops and boutiques that have popped up around here recently.
Questions for you!
- Do you have a favorite local boutique/coffee shop you enjoy visiting?
- Is there a color you’ve found yourself wearing a lot of lately?
Jennifer says
Yes! There’s quite a few shops in my town and a bakery/coffee shop that is super good. There are also quite a few places around the state I love visiting, too. My college roommate and I go at least one a year to a town that has a ton of thrift stores and cute shops and we love it!
Black 😂😂😂😂 always. I’ve been decorating my house a TON with blue and white though, so we’re kind of on the same wave length!

I’m surprised you aren’t wearing a mask, especially with sensitive health issues – do you not support it or encourage it with your readers? (this is not a judgment in any way – just curious about your thoughts and your followers)
Taralynn McNitt says
I mentioned in the blog post about wearing a mask and I took my mask off for a photo and I was outside. I didn’t think I’d have to clarify why I wasn’t wearing a mask outside.

Hi Taralynn! That muffin looks delish. There’s a place downtown called the cinnamon roll deli. They serve almost everything with a house made cinnamon roll. They have great coffee and breakfast foods. I don’t know about a color but I’m obsessed with dresses this summer. Especially anything breezy and soft! Loving all the details on your kimono – so cute.
Taralynn McNitt says
Aw, thanks, Marie!!
Ohhhhhh that sounds amazing! Now I’m craving cinnamon rolls.

Hi Taralynn!
I love your dress and the bag! This blue color looks great on you.
I have favorite local boutiques as well and I love to go shopping there because the clothes are original and as you say, it’s a way to support small business 🙂
I’ve been wearing a lot of blue lately as well, I bought many dresses In blue for this summer. I also bought vivid yellow, something new in my wardrobe!
Have a nice week 🙂 <3
Taralynn McNitt says
aw, thanks, Milena!
That is something I wish I could wear! I love the color yellow, but it doesn’t like my skin tone!
I bet there are so many amazing boutiques where you live!

Yes, I love little coffee shops in North Georgia like in Helen, Ellijay, etc.! I found one in Atlanta, but they’re just doing pickup right now. The boutiques here are like $200 for a dress, but I loveee supporting other local businesses!
I have found myself wearing a lot of blue and gray. I feel like blue looks really good with brown hair.

What a cute little place, also love the outfit your wearing. We have a few little boutique coffee shops in my town & to support them we are taking our work & client meetings to them as a small company its the best way we can support our locals and they support us in return with re-designing work. I don’t have a colour I wearing a lot of at the moment but I am am wearing a lot of over sized knitted jumpers with a bright scarf or big bright earrings, jeans & leather boots. Hope you have a great week!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Harriet!
Sounds like you’re keepin’ it stylish! ♥️
