Do It Yourself: Lemon Citrus Wreath for a Summer Door 🍋
Last Monday, I spent the morning browsing the internet for a lemon wreath. I think they’re so refreshing and the perfect touch for a summer door. I was taken back at the price tags that went up to $300. I won’t pay anything over $50 for a wreath, especially if it’s only going to be on my front door for a few months. I decided that I was going to just make my own. Plus, making wreaths is such fun. There’s nothing more satisfying than displaying something you made yourself in your home. I’m going to be making a 4th of July wreath next week, so stay tuned for that one!
I filmed the tutorial as well since it’s sometimes easier to SEE than reading. If you’re anything like me, I’m a “watch and do” type of person.
All you need to make this wreath:
– Lemon Leaf Garland
– Twig Wreath
– Ribbon
– Faux Lemons
– Floral Accents
– Scissors / Wire Cutters
– Hot Glue Sticks
– Hot Glue Gun
– Floral Wire
I purchased all the items at Hobby Lobby. Right now, ALL of their summer and garden decor is on sale, plus they have the 40% coupon online (always.)
My door gets really hot in the afternoons because of the sun, so I made sure to attach all of the items (minus the lemons) with the floral wire. Some of the little floral accents can be tucked into the twig wreath without glue, which makes the process way faster. I didn’t want the hot glue to melt and my wreath to fall apart. This wreath took about 25-minutes to make!
Fun fact: I’ve never been good at making bows that go on wreaths, so I assemble it all by glue! I cut the pieces to make them look like a bow. I showed you the process in the video, but it’s definitely a good hack if you’re like me and can’t tie a bow!
I loved how it turned out! 😊 I think it could be cute with little oranges, too! Maybe I’ll try that next year. If you want a little bit more color, you can try adding faux lavender accents. I was so close to doing it but chickened out.
The lemon wreath is also a cute budget-friendly gift idea! 🍋
I hope you enjoy the video tutorial and get inspired to make your own wreath! If you do, don’t forget to tag me in your photos! I love seeing your creations. 💜 🍋
Questions for you!
- Have you ever made your own wreath before?
- What is your favorite holiday to decorate for?
Jennifer Wedin says
Yes! I followed your DIY fall wreath tutorial to make one of my own. My mom and friend loved it so much that I made one for each of them, too. Making wreaths is SO much fun – especially because I agree, they get so darn expensive in store!
Christmas is my favorite holiday for decorating- I’m not a huge holiday decorator except for that! I don’t like tons of clutter and holiday decor can get overwhelming for me 😅🙈

Awww that makes me so happy!!

The first and only time I attempted to make my own wreath I accidentally hot-glued it to my table. Such a disaster lol. I just admire them now and leave it to the pros. This lemon wreath looks fantastic!
Taralynn McNitt says
I’m sorry but I’M LAUGHING SO HARD at the thought of that!! 😂

LOVE THIS!! I also saw you and Becca painted over a racist rock that’s awesome! Also thank you for sharing all of those other bloggers and people to follow. I’ve never made a wreath but this lemon one is adorable I want to recreate this one with maybe some lavender around it.. My favorite holiday to decorate for is Halloween! I love Fall, my husband is the king of Christmas and always does all the decorating for it. Hope you have a good week, can’t wait for your recap.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Ashton!
Thanks so much! 💜 Yes, that rock had to go! Thousands of people float down that river on the weekends and it’s sad they had to see that. We’re taking over that rock and making sure it’s never seen again.
I think I’m with you on that. I LOVE decorating for FALL!

Super cute! I made a wreath in the fall (sad to admit that’s it’s still hanging on my front door). I think I’ll try making one with oranges. Excited to see your 4th of July wreath 😊
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha thats too funny! But im sure it’s cute! xo xo
Kristin says
Oh my gosh that is so cute!!! We never have wreaths up on our door. I feel like I need to make one now though!
Taralynn McNitt says
Ohhhhh you should make this one!

Thank you for sharing accounts/blogs by Black women. I saw you painted over racist graffiti near you. Thank you for that as well.
Have you ever made your own wreath before? Yes! Way cheaper than buying brand new and not too difficult or time-consuming once you have the materials.
What is your favorite holiday to decorate for? Hmmm maybe Autumn/Halloween. I love pumpkins and pansies cascading down my front steps.
Taralynn McNitt says
Absolutely, Madeline! ♥️
I so agree with you on that! A lot cheaper 😊
SAME!! FALL FOR THE WIN!

Hi there!
You stood exactly what I’ve been feeloing,
but haven’t been able to articulate. People are rightfully angry, but we can use that anger as fuel to keep moving us into a better world or we can use it unconstructively and stay exactly where we are.
I clicked for the gorgeous wreath and got so much more! I’m still definitely going to be making this wreath though! So cute and bright.

♥️ ♥️
You’re very right.

Girl, I love the videos! I just recently went back and watched a few of your videos after your cleaning one! Love them!

Thanks, Brooke!!

You are amazing, my friend! I couldn’t agree more with you about being a better human, and doing all we can now and moving forward. I’ve felt so bad for many bloggers because they’ve tried to reach out and say something, but then had so many people attacking them, and not constructively. 🙁 I really hope that we can all stand together and help one another.
Your wreath is beautiful!! I can’t imagine paying more than $50 for one either, especially when you can put them together yourself for a decent price.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Ashley!
Thank you for that. It’s often hard to say anything because everyone is human and any kind of mean comments do hurt, especially when everyone is just TRYING to be better humans at the end of the day. We all have the same common goal. Can’t demand change with hateful tones.
I appreciate it! The wreaths are so fun to make!

Hi Taralynn,
Since I don’t post often on social media, staying silent in the past week was not enough of an action for me, so I took the time to begin to listen and reflect. One of my first realizations was just how many black squares I was seeing last Tuesday, so I thank you for your recommendations! I now have several new blogs to follow (yay!) which provide the important perspective of women of color. THANK YOU!!!
I usually love decorating for fall, but I’ve been wanting something new for my front door that does not take away from the beautiful hibiscus plants on my front porch. Looking forward to DIY-ing my own lemon wreath!!
Gratefully,
Maureen
Taralynn McNitt says
♥️ thank you for sharing that. I think it’s important to take time out to listen/reflect.
Ohhh please share when you finish and have so much fun!!
Emma says
I really appreciate the emphasis you put on love AND the need for change. I’ve seen too many calls for increased love but no action or accountability. I also liked that you painted over the confederate flag rock to help show that racist images won’t be tolerated. I can’t wait to check out the blogs you suggested and I’m glad to see that you’re addressing the issue at hand. Please keep it up!
On another note, you mentioned wanting to buy fake lavender. If you already haven’t, I highly recommend buying a lavender plant. Our bush doubled in size the first year, and the quadrupled it’s first year size this year. It’s pretty, fragrant, and good for bees!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Emma! ♥️
Yes! I actually have lavender growing in my front garden!! The bees LOVE it!

I appreciate your thoughtful response!
