Happy Friday 💜 Can you believe it’s already December 14th?
While Leo was at the vet yesterday, I wanted to keep my mind off his surgery, so I decided to make some sugar cookies for Vlogmas. You may have already seen it posted on YouTube, but I wanted to share some photos on my blog. There’s nothing better than frosting sugar cookies around the holidays. These aren’t going to be my sugar cookies for the season; I have big plans for those this weekend! I thought I’d go ahead and share my royal icing recipe just in case frosting cookies is on your weekend agenda.
I’ll post my recipe for the rollout sugar cookies next week, but for these, I used a recipe by Food Faith and Fitness. They turned out wonderful! These are going to be made many more times!
Most grocery stores do not sell meringue powder, and if I don’t feel like going to Walmart, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby to pick it up, I just make royal icing using egg whites. Now, if raw egg whites bother you, this recipe is not for you, but you’d be surprised at how many icings are made with egg whites! Next time, I’ll make my icing with meringue powder, but because I didn’t have any in the house, I used three ingredients to make this royal icing, and it turned out perfect.
I can’t wait to do a full-out decorating session this weekend. I’m going to be making Christmas trees, snowman, gingerbread men, candy canes, and so on! The only reason I chose pink and white was that pink food coloring was the only one I had in my house. I made some breast cancer cookies for a friend a few months ago and had some leftover. Plus, pink is acceptable as a Christmas color!
I’m always impatient when it comes to letting the cookies cool. When I do my full-out baking sessions, I’ll usually bake all the cookies the night before frosting.
I bought the icing bottles at Michaels Arts and Crafts. They work perfectly for decorating.
Even the ugly cookies taste good 😉
Royal Icing
Ingredients
- 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 2 Large Egg Whites
- 2 Tsps Vanilla
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the powdered sugar, vanilla, and eggs together.
- Make sure there are no lumps! Add more powdered sugar by the spoonful if it's too runny.
I’m all for striped cookies! The royal icing makes it look so smooth.
You can use toothpicks to add extra details. If you run a toothpick across the lines, it’ll add an elegant zigzag effect. Make sure to check out today’s Vlogmas video to see how I do them!
As always, sugar cookies are best when served with coffee!
Questions for you!
- Have you baked cookies this month yet?
- What is your favorite Christmas cookie?

Where can I find the bottles?

Almost all crafts stores have them! Look near the Wilton section.
