Good Morning!
Can you believe it’s almost March? Wasn’t it Christmas pretty much yesterday? Every time I close my eyes, it’s a new month. This is the time of the year when I start getting travel fever and stalking almost every travel site on the internet. I’m hoping to get some travel set up soon. I have about three doctor appointments coming up in early March, and after those, I’m out of here! I’m really contemplating on Island hopping in Hawaii…anyone wanna come? 😉
I had a very productive week. I feel like I got so much done, several recipes created, and caught up on the behind the scenes work. There was a lot of fun happening this week as well. Starting with last Monday 🙂
Meighan had President’s Day off, so we met up later in the afternoon to go for a six-mile walk along Freedom Park and the Sugarcreek Greenway. This is one of my favorite trails in Charlotte, especially in the fall and summer.
After our walk, we headed over to Green Brother’s Juice for some food. I had wanted to check out their new location for a while now. They also built a Yoga One and Not Just Coffee near the Dilworth neighborhood. It’s a pretty awesome location! A juice bar, coffee shop, and yoga studio all in the same plaza…someone was thinking straight. It was hard choosing what to order.
Everything looked so good! I’ll have to go back and try something different every time. I ordered the MIRROR MIRROR bowl. It had pitaya, strawberry, banana, almond milk, topped with granola, pineapple, sliced almonds, bee pollen, coconut flakes, and honey.
I also bought some juices to take home with me.
The little orange bottle is the Zen Zinger. It had carrot, ginger, cayenne, ginkgo biloba & lemon. I love that this had ginkgo biloba because it helps with moods and anxiety. The red bottle was the Cold Busta. I had to shot this fast because I can’t handle any trace of beets. I know they are good for you, but I can’t get on the beet train. This one had lemon, ginger, garlic, jalapeno, beet, turmeric, oreganol & cayenne. The green juice was the Dtox Me. It had cucumber, mint, kale, apple, lemon, & ginger. Meighan ordered the So Fresh, So Green smoothie! It had mango, banana, broccoli, ginger, kale, lemon juice, and apple juice.
When I got home, I was out for another two-mile walk. I took Grumples around the block once (one mile) and Leo around the block once. After getting settled in for the night, I heated up some leftovers for dinner. I had sweet potato and chicken chili, asparagus, grilled chicken, and kale salad.
I spent Monday night writing my recap post and watching The Bachelor. I also worked on getting Leo to sit on his dog bed. Every time he’d get up, I’d make him sit right back down. This took about an hour before he finally took a hint.
Tuesday morning breakfast: I had some chopped cantaloupe, my protein yogurt (Vanilla Orgain & SoDelicious coconut milk yogurt, unsweetened), and hard boiled eggs with one yolk. I also had some leftover green juice.
After finishing up some work on Tuesday, I headed out for a walk with the dogs, and then had lunch outside because it was 75-degrees! I had fresh fruit with my leftover mirror mirror bowl. The smoothie bowls are always so filling, so I usually end up with leftovers. I keep the leftover smoothie bowls in my freezer but defrost them for about an hour or two in my refrigerator.
I decided to grill some proteins to keep in the fridge for salads while we were out on the porch. I’ve turned into a grilling monster lately. I grilled some steak and chicken. I’ve had a lot of questions about grilling for newbies. I will put together a post on the “how-tos” because I’ve been learning a lot.
And check out those pots! They fit perfectly. There is a super cheap outlet store called “Ollies” that I love going to in the summer. They have pots and outdoor supplies for SO CHEAP! I got these ceramic pots for $9.99! I was looking at the pots at Home Depot, and they were 3X that price. I picked up some more of their pots to paint and use for growing some produce this summer. I have a really fun back patio garden planned. I’m going to start building it this weekend.
I was inspired to make my own juices after stopping by the Green Brother’s Juice Co. I bought some juice bottles at Hobby Lobby a while back, and I wanted to fill them up for the fridge. When I have a sweet craving, I usually drink a little glass of fresh juice, and it nips it in the bud quick.
The orange juice had: wheatgrass, turmeric, cucumber, carrots, ginger, lemon, mandarines, and papaya.
The green juice had: aloe, cantaloupe, ginger, lemon, cucumber, kale, spinach, and wheatgrass.
I’ll be doing a new post with six of my favorite juice recipes + the exact measurements of each! 🙂 If you’re interested in reusable glass bottles for juice, check these out on Amazon! They are awesome. I like drinking water out of them too.
When I posted my fridge last week, so many of you messaged me asking if I could do weekly updates on my fridge because it inspired them. That put a smile on my face! I’m a true believer in keeping healthy food in your fridge because it helps me from choosing to go to restaurants or grab the faster unhealthier option all the time. And don’t’ get me wrong, I’m all about treating myself, but I feel better when I go for the healthier options. Plus, I think healthy food is delicious, and it doesn’t feel like a chore. This is what my fridge looks like before I start prepping salads, roasting vegetables, and preparing my proteins.
For dinner on Wednesday night, I had this amazing salad! Details for this salad are right here! I was so tired on Tuesday night. I took the boys out for a super long walk to soak up the heat. I went just about four miles (2 miles apiece), and then I showered off and went to bed by 9 pm.
Wednesday Morning Breakfast: almond milk cappuccino, protein yogurt with hempseed granola (bulk at Whole foods), and Enjoy Life chocolate chunks. I spent the whole day catching up on work! (Nespresso maker & milk frother)
I did a little tea and night reading on the porch after walking the dogs.
Sometimes my dinner plates aren’t that pretty, and they are just thrown together. Not sometimes, most of the time. This plate had half of an avocado, grilled chicken and steak, and my crunchy salad topper mix. I like to mix dried chickpeas, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds with falafel seasoning.
Thursday flew by.
I packed my dinner and some dessert before heading to my parent’s house to see them. I like to visit them at least one night of the week. My dogs LOVE running around in their backyard and playing.
I packed a delicious salad in a to-go container, sparkling waters, popcorn, and fresh fruit.
On the drive there, I decided to take my boys out for a “cow ride.” This is their favorite thing in the entire world. They may even enjoy this more than playing with the bubble machine. I’ll usually pull my car over on the side of the country road so they can watch the cows in the field. Grumples sometimes cries for them, and he just gets so excited! I wish I lived on a farm with cows. I feel like he’d become best friends with them. Is that weird to say?
Here is what was inside of my dinner salad! My dad and mom made a mushroom stirfry for dinner, and that’s why I always pack my dinner. We’re never on the same page with food (hope they’re not reading today.) I do want to give my dad a shout out though, his doctor put him on a low carb diet, and he’s lost a lot of weight this past month. He’s looking great! He’s stopped the beer drinking and late-night chocolate eating. I’m so proud of him!
For breakfast, I had a bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon and peanut butter. It was GORGEOUS outside!
I took my mom to a doctors appointment on Friday morning, and then we stopped by Whole Foods when we were done. My favorite aisle 🙂 I need to post the three coffee blends I’ve been obsessed with lately.
Later in the evening, I headed to the courts to play tennis for a couple of hours. It was so fun to get back out there! I hope to play a ton this weekend.
For dinner, I had a cabbage and kale salad with guacamole, my homemade dressing, grilled chicken & steak, hard boiled eggs, and guacamole.
I’ve been wanting to get back into running. Not long distance, but fun running. The type of running I used to LOVE before injuries and training for a half marathon took place. I don’t want to run more than six miles. LIKE EVER.
On Saturday morning, I headed out for a three-mile neighborhood run. My neighborhood is so hilly, so I was proud of myself that I lasted the whole three miles. I thought I’d die after mile two. The weather was perfect, so it helped as well. Before running, I walked the dogs two-miles and then did a deep stretch and warmed up before heading out.
My face was a tomato head when I was done. I had to have Kyle take a picture of my beautiful tomato head.
I hydrated with some green juice and water.
After showering and getting ready for the day, I made a protein yogurt bowl topped with half of a waffle, hemp seed granola, and Lucky Charms. I eat like a child sometimes. I took that bowl to-go, and we headed to Home Depot.
We had to get a garage fridge for Kyle’s food prep. They were taking over my refrigerator, and I’m too selfish to share the space. We got a nice medium-sized fridge for all his meal prep food, and it works perfectly!
I made these INSANELY delicious protein balls on Saturday afternoon. They have been a HIT so far!! You can get the recipe here😀 They only have four ingredients, they’re no-bake, vegan, dairy free, gluten free, soy free, and kid-friendly. I also made a ton of recipes that’ll be on the blog soon!
I had to get one of the energy bars from the Whole Foods line. I always treat myself to one of these when I go. THEY ARE heavenly. I usually cut the energy bar into pieces because it’s huge. I eat it throughout the day. They have a lot of honey, so one bite usually does the trick. I wish I had the recipe for this bar! If you know it…please share!!!Kyle grilled the BEST chicken on Saturday night. We marinaded it in lime juice and Tessemae’s BBQ sauce for the entire day. HANDS DOWN THE BEST GRILLED CHICKEN I’VE EVER HAD! I ended up buying a huge pack of the sauce on Amazon. I didn’t want to keep going back to Whole Foods to get it. I love bbq sauce, but it’s usually loaded with sugar. This sauce has only 2g of carbs and no added sugars at all.
We enjoyed dinner together in the backyard 🙂
I wish I could eat this all over again.
My plate had tossed kale and cabbage with my homemade dressing, sweet potato slices, chickpea/sunflower seed/pumpkin seed falafel blend, grilled chicken, and guacamole. Omg…drooling thinking about it.
I picked up this new little plant while I was at Home Depot on Saturday 🙂 This pot was only $14.99 at that Ollie’s discount store. A pot like this would be $50 anywhere else! When I’m finished with the patio (hammock, staining the wood, garden, and more details), I’ll do the entire post on it.
Sunday morning coffee outside before the rain.
Training was so good this week.
Now that we know what to do and what to work on while we’re walking, we addressed the indoor issues with the dogs. This conversation just saved me. Sometimes I feel like I’m going to cry because they just won’t stop wrestling or bothering me while I work. I thought saying “no” constantly was it, but that’s not the case. They are getting more exercise than the average dog (shoot, the average person), so their wrestling matches are completely unnecessary, and it’s NOT allowed.
I was never giving them a “down/stay” for them to be in after our long walks while I worked. They just had free-range of the house, and they weren’t told what to do. Now, when we come in from our walks, I put them in a down, stay, and expect them to stay like that. Every time they break it, I have to reinforce it and have them mind me. What has been really beneficial is keeping them on the leash next to me while I’m working to help them understand their role and the command. Right now, I am successful blogging, and they are both down by my feet laying down and not barking at cars or wrestling. I’ll release them when we get ready to go on our afternoon walk. This is the first day where they aren’t making me stressed or driving me crazy. I actually cooked dinner last night without them following my every move. Going to training is a must if your dogs are causing just a small amount of stress. It doesn’t matter how old or how bad they are, it helps, and CAN be fixed! If you’re new here, check out my previous recap posts and see what we’ve been up to at training. We take the boys to Holland K9 Services and work with John. So far, it’s been life-changing.
One more thing! (because I’m proud) Kyle and I were walking the dogs in my neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, and a big group of backyard dogs was barking at Grumples and Leo. The mom said to her daughter “wow, look how well behaved those dogs are.” She was talking about our dogs! WHAT?I never thought I’d ever heard that. They finally heel with us and ignore other dogs most of the time. It’s unbelievable. I can enjoy my walks with them now.
Sunday lunch: cabbage & Kale salad with guacamole, my crunchy toppers, and sweet potatoes. I also had my fresh squeezed juice on the side.
I spent Sunday afternoon blogging and enjoying a cappuccino (and some balls) while it rained. It was a relaxing Sunday. (Nespresso maker & milk frother)
We finally got a break in the rain on Sunday, so I prepared some salmon and shishito peppers on the grill for dinner.
I shared this recipe on my Instagram story! Check under “eats” if you want the recipe now. I’ll be doing a recipe post on this salmon soon, though! I had some oatmeal Halo Top for dessert and watched The Bachelor; Women Tell All before bed.
I tried to do some Sunday morning stretches before an appointment on Monday…Leo wanted to join.
I had an appointment and then stopped by Whole Foods before heading home around 2 pm.
When I got home, I took the boys out for a three-mile walk and then sat down to blog with a yummy cappuccino. (Nespresso maker & milk frother) I use The New Barn Barista Almond Milk for my cappuccinos! IT’S THE BEST.
After our final evening walk, I decided to grill some more for dinner. I’m telling you…addiction is real.
I grilled shaved brussels sprouts and honey bbq chicken. I mixed the two marinades, and it was so tasty! As soon as I finished grilling, it started storming hard! I kind of liked sitting outside watching the storm come through.
And here is my Monday night Dinner plate! Grilled chicken, brussels sprouts, and sweet potatoes! Yum! 🙂 Of course, I watched The Bachelor last night…I just don’t like Arie. BLEH.
Oh, and look out for my grilled tofu kebabs coming to the blog soon!
Questions for you!
- Are you trying to get back into running?
- What is your favorite aisle in the grocery store?
- Do you grow your own produce in the summer?
I need to get back into running! Hopefully I’ll feel inspired as the weather gets hotter. Just can’t wait for spring and summer to come already! ✨✨
My favourite aisle in the grocery store? I enjoy the WHOLE store, haha, but I’d have to say the biscuits and chocolates are my favourites. 😛
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog

Hi, Charmaine!
Yes, me either! Well, I guess SPRING is here 😀
lol chocolate section…I feel ya 😉
xo
I am curious why you buy coffee beans from chains (target, whole foods, etc) instead of local roasted coffee beans from little coffee shops? They are so much better!! Maybe I’m just a bigger coffee snob than you lol!!
Lol, I usually don’t like the roasts.
I’m a big Sumatra person. However, I do buy local occasionally. I’ve posted them on my blog plenty of times 🙂 I enjoy trying new roasts from all kinds of places, and all kinds of new roasters. I think if I stuck to only Charlotte roasters, I’d get bored.
Umm, I’ll go to Hawaii anytime!!! 🙋🏽Hehe!
* I wouldn’t mind getting into running – I’ve never been a runner before!
* Coffeeeee!!!
* I would love to grow my own produce! That would save so much money! BTW – you have the BEST and most creative salads!!
😊
Hahaha let’s go! 🙂
No one is a runner until they start running 😉
lol coffeeeeeee is life.
AND THANK YOU! I do love making my salads:) It’s like art.
I am trying to get back into running as well, I fell off the fitness wagon around Thanksgiving- I had just been making it into such a chore that I completely stopped going to the gym ugh. So now within the past 2 months or so, I’ve been getting back into fitness and doing things that are fun to me, pretty similar to your situation! I had just gotten into such a rut of making myself do these intense workouts and long runs that were not fun at all. I’m upset that I completely fell off, because I feel out of shape now and have put on some weight, but I know that this time around it will be more sustainable. This morning I just walked for the whole hour I was at the gym and it felt great-before I probably would have been kicking myself for not doing some HIIT or something!
My favorite aisle at the grocery store is coffee aisle as well! Love finding new roasts and flavors to try! I wish I could grow my own produce in the summer, my apartment just doesn’t have space anywhere for even a little garden. My parents grow their own though, and they are good about sharing! Love all of the juices in the post-might have to break out my juicer soon, it’s been so long I don’t know if I even remember how to work it haha
Hi, Meghan!
I know how that is! For me, those workouts were actually making me gain so much weight, and not muscle either. My body was not responding, so much inflammation, and counter-results. I’ve kind of reset my body the past seven months, and I’m finally feeling like myself again! I refuse to get SUPER into fitness, but light runs and circuits once a week is fine for now 🙂 Lots of walks and stretching is what I love to do!
WOOO YAY COFFEE AISLE!
That is so awesome. My dad sends me home with fresh cucumber and tomatoes!
Lol i was afraid I wouldnt know how to use mine! It’s been since last summer!
Are you trying to get back into running? Honestly I’ve never been a runner…and probably never will be! I’d much rather take walks.
What is your favorite aisle in the grocery store? My favorite isle is the fruit/veggie section. I’ve been trying to stay away from the other isles lately.
Do you grow your own produce in the summer? Yes! It’s the best thing ever to have a garden right out your back door. Plus it saves me a ton on groceries in the summer.
I also cannot stand Arie! ugh. Of course I’m still watching every episode, but he just bugs me. And I think it’s weird that Lauren made it this far, no personality at all. Curious to see who he picks.
I love walking too 🙂 I try to walk 5-6 miles a day with my dogs. It’s definitely my main form of exercise.
I bet! I hope to do the same 🙂 I’ve been browsing ideas on Pinterest all night.
lol me too! He is so annoying, and I’ll never understand the whole Lauren situation. Like are producers doing this on purpose? WHAT ARE WE MISSING? I wonder what the “surprise ending” is. lol He always says this!
1. I WISH! Running is always something I’ve wanted to get into, but my knees are completely shot. My doctor even told me if he finds out I’m running, I shouldn’t even bother coming back to his office. (And I work for the practice! Lol)
2. The coffee aisle is my favorite, but snacks & candy are up there too 🙂 Which one takes #1 depends on which time of the month it is :p
3. I was never able to do that, but I’ve always wanted to! We had two crazy dogs who would’ve destroyed them instantly. Maybe I’ll plant the seed in my dad’s ear this summer–literally!
Hahaha YOU better listen to your doctor hahaha.
lol I feeeeel ya girl!
You should try building your garden up!:) The raised gardens keep a lot of critters out!
Love this weekly recap! All your food looked so delicious and so happy your dogs are benefiting from training! I am starting my second half marathon training this week! Today it’s 55 in Michigan and I can’t wait to run outside! My favorite aisle is probably the snack bar aisle. I love protein bars/granola bars and love finding new ones! I’ve grown cherry tomatoes before and they were delicious!
Thanks, Michelle!!
Nice job!!:) Sending you all the positive vibes for your training!!!
WOW 55 IN MICHIGAN? That’s basically a summer night lol
I think cherry tomatoes are so much better grown home! home grown? lol
Glad my dog isn’t the only cow freak out there!!! We’re lucky enough we have cows of our own and you are right the cows and the dog have learned to like eachother!!! it’s the sweetest
That is so funny! My dogs are literally obsessed. Omg……that is seriously my dream!!!!!!!! I always tell Kyle how bad I want a farmhouse with a cow, a horse, and some chickens!
Grumples has beautiful eyes!
My favorite aisle is the vitamin section and I don’t know why.
Hahaha I like the vitamin section too!
What brand juicer do you use? Really looking forward to the juicing post 🙂
I use the Cuisinart! 😀
Hi Tara, when you go out to buy groceries, is it ever an issue with price? Or is money never a financial issue with you?
Hi, Linda!
Fortunately, price isn’t an issue, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to save money or get the best bang for my buck. I also buy a ton of groceries because I don’t like going out to dinner, and want to try to avoid that as much as I can. 🙂
1. Not yet. I am currently recovering from an ankle surgery to fix damaged cartilage. It’s frustrating but I need to be patient before getting back to any form of workout. I’ll start physical therapy in 4 weeks!
2. Ooh this is a tough one! I would have to say the pre-chopped produce area. There’s usually something I haven’t cooked with before, and it’s a nice shortcut for cooking, and it’s fun to try new things!
3. I haven’t but moved into a place where the previous tenants kept an herb garden on the back patio. Looking forward to reviving it this summer. Also we grow green onion in a vase on the kitchen windowsill – so easy. Just buy green onion at the store and plop it in some water!
By the way, I asked you about the shaved brussels sprouts on IG and you gave me the pizza cutter tip. Ours is too dull, but I just chopped them more and roasted them and they turned out great 🙂
Sorry to hear you’re going through that! Sending positive vibes your way.
Lol, I am a fan of that aisle as well. Especially on stir-fry night.
I’ve seen those on Pinterest! It’s pretty awesome!
That is so awesome to hear!! Chopping them makes them cook so much faster and more even! 🙂
I made those protein balls! So delish! 👍🏻
Hi, Samantha! yay! So happy to hear you enjoyed those balls!! 🙂
The grilled chicken and Brussels look amazing! Can’t wait to try making them for myself.
Thanks, Raeleen!!
I honestly think this is the worst season of The Bachelor EVER. It has been beyond boring and I don’t like Arie either! CRINGE. I hope Becca wins though, she’s always been my favorite!
SERIOUSLY! I agree. She’s my fave so I don’t want her to win. I want her to be the next bachelorette. I hope Lauren wins because shes so boring lol
What kind of harness do you use for walking Leo and Grumples? My pup has just about outgrown his and I’m looking for suggestions!
Hi, Krista!
We used to use Ruffwear, but now are working with new collars and different methods now that we are in training. If your dog isn’t a puller, I’d go for the harness! If your pup is a puller, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Right now I have a little running burn out. I’ve been running a lot and it’s making me a little too hungry sometimes. I want to add more yoga or Pilates right now.
Condiment aisle! I can do so much with sauces and marinades.
I’ve tried but I use containers on my patio, (don’t have actual yard) and it’s never enough yield for the work.
That is a great filler for running:)
lol yes! I do like that aisle:)
I’m excited to see how mine turn out!
the blog A Spicy Perspective has the copycat whole foods granola bar, I’ve made them a few times and they are AMAZING!! Ive actually never had the ones from whole foods, so I’m not sure how they compare 🙂 they look very similar tho
Wuuuuuuut.
brb. googling right now!!
**BACK** Just stalked her blog and saved the recipe! CAN’T WAIT to make these!!!! They really do look identical.
I’ll let you know how they compare!
How funny you have a tofu recipe coming up…I’ve been on such a tofu kick lately!
Great job with the dogs! Training takes a lot of love and patience.
1. I’ve always admired runners, but I’ve never been one. And I’m ok with that 🙂
2. I love the cereal aisle, and let’s be honest, the ice cream aisle too!
3. One day I will grow my own produce…
It’s so good! I remember the first time trying it. I was terrified of it! lol, I think the name really gives it a bad rep.
It really does take a lot of patience and energy with all the consistency.
LOL the ice cream aisle and pizza aisle are always fun!
ME TOO! 😀
What do u do to the Brussels sprouts. Do u shave them yourself. Then fry or roast them. Love your blog
Hi, Tanya! I actually buy them like that! 🙂 But you can use a salad chopper or a pizza cutter with a large bowl to chop them 🙂
Currently trying to rehab an injury but I am so ready to get back into running! Random but where did you get your outdoor rug? I’ve been looking for one for my porch but cant find any that aren’t like $500.
Target and Homegoods!!:D
Take care of that injury!
Quick question for you! Where do you buy your shashito peppers? I love them and my parents grow them in their garden….but my apartment location is not suitable for growing my own plant. I can never seem to find them at my local grocery store.
I can only find them at Whole Foods!
Trader Joe’s has them too!
I injured my IT band and running hasn’t been the same since. I hope this summer when Washington gets warmer weather I will start to add it back! It’s been good to take a break and try other forms of exercise.
The first aisle that came to mind was the peanut butter, chocolate, or the vegetable aisles! Sums up my favorite foods!
We will sometimes gore snap peas and carrots! We don’t get the best weather where I live, but we can get a few fruits and vegetables, but never enough to sustain me and my crazy vegetable habit!!
It really is good to take a break! Sorry that you injured your IT band:(
mmmmmm you had me at PB
Lol there’s always the farmers markets for that.
I have a love-hate relationship with running, but am trying to get back into it right now. The weather is finally getting nicer here in Wisconsin and it’s good to step out of the gym! I have some 5ks in the summer I want to participate in and I would like to be able to run the entire way. My favorite isle at the grocery store is probably coffee or cheese. Coffee because the smell is great and cheese because they usually offer samples! I am apartment-bound right now, but look forward to having a garden someday. For now, we’re growing a basil plant that’s nice to get fresh leaves from every once in a while. 😊
A 5K race is very reasonable and you can definitely do it! 🙂 Add a little running every day and you’ll get there.
My mom’s favorite plant to grow is basil. She has containers of it! lol
I love reading your blogs, Taralynn!
My favorite aisle is the cereal section. I let my kids pick out their own box each week.
Thanks, Margaret!
My mom used to let my brother and I do the same!
Your peanut butter balls were a hit!
Yay!
Yes, I would love to! I want to start the C25K app again, but our apartment gym has been closed on and off for renovation (without warning) so it’s tricky to get into a routine at this point. Also, running in MN is not happening right now. HA. I screenshotted one of your workouts on Insta and it nearly killed me, but in a good way!
I’d have to say my favorite aisle of the grocery store is the baking aisle. I have the best Super Target ever in my town, so that’s where I shop. I really love wandering down all the aisles because they’re always adding new, healthy, and unique things to try! I always come out of Target with a new food, amongst other unnecessary items HAHA.
If I had a garden, I totally would! I’m hoping to do an indoor herb garden of sorts this spring/summer when it’s warmer and I can have the plants near the windows. I’m moving into a different apartment within the same building (with my sister) and it should have a balcony. Too bad it’ll be mid summer and too late to grow anything on the deck!
Also, yes, I’ll go to Hawaii with you — thanks for asking 😉
AND, GRUMPLES AND LEO ARE SO FUNNY YET SO ADORABLE TOTALLY SHAVED DOWN.
Hi, Jennifer!
Oh that is so annoying! And it’s not like you can enjoy the outdoors right now! lol brrrrrr But yes, those workouts can be done in the living room:)
OHHHH I loveeeee the baking aisle almost as much as the coffee aisle!
HAHAHA Hawaii here we come 🙂
lol they really look funny!!!!
Hi! I’m not a huge runner, actually I’m not a runner at all. I prefer to go on walks except I live in Illinois and it’s been freezing the last few months! My favorite aisle is the coffee/tea aisle as well. I don’t grow my own produce, but my mom does so I try and get it from her! How did you make your Brussel sprouts they look amazing!!
I love walks too! 🙂
MMMM coffee aisle! <3
I just grilled them! I bought them already pre-cut at Whole Foods, but you can do it yourself by chopping them with a salad chopper or pizza cutter.
I love your outdoor furniture, I know your dad and you built it. Any way you can do a “how to” post on it.
Thanks 🙂
Hi, Teresa!
When I’m finished with the whole backyard look, I’ll be posting the how-to’s and there where’s on the blog!:)
Thanks so much!
Hey Taralynn! I’m so excited it’s almost March! It’s my birthday month after all 😉 I’ve never actually been in to running, but there’s a cool 5k happening in May so I plan on using a couch-to-5k plan because I would love to be able to run it the whole time! I’m worried because in the past, I always get terrible shin splits when I try running. Any advice on how to avoid that? I absolutely love grocery shopping haha, is that weird?! My favorite section is the colorful produce section. But if I had to choose an aisle, it would be the laundry detergent aisle because it smells so good! I sadly do not grow produce in the summer because I live in a top floor apartment, but I was thinking of making an herb garden for my balcony this year! Maybe even a tomato plant too. The only problem is that I have some squirrely “neighbors” who might help themselves.
I hope you have a great week!
xo Kelsey
Hi, Kelsey!
Woo! Happy birthday month 😀
What works for me is to ICE after every run, lots of leg exercises (you can do them while you watch tv) and use the roller to massage! KT tape is great too. And running on hard pavement isn’t always the best for shin splints. Maybe try training in the grass.
Nope love grocery shopping!!!!
lol I love the cleaning aisle too.
hahaha those squirrels definitely make themselves at home!
What running shoes do you wear? like the brand?
Asics! 😀
I need that kind of training for my two dogs. Constantly barking (at dogs, cars, squirrles, leaves, hell even the wind blowing the wrong way), wrestling, plowing into me with toys to play with them, etc., drives me absolutely bonkers most days. And I know the feeling of just wanting to cry because they won’t listen to you, and they’re stressing you out.
Since November it’s been a struggle to stay motivated to run, but since it’s warming up and Spring is on the horizon I have been getting out more and logging more miles simply because I enjoy it again. Treadmill running is awful, and I tend to feel like it’s a lot harder than running outside.
My favorite aisle in the grocery store is probably the Health Foods aisles. I love my Almond Milk, Luna Bars, Lara Bars, PB2, and all of that stuff, so I spend a lot of time in that aisle.
I would like to start a small garden to grow things like lettuce, some peppers, strawberries, etc., I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Mine and my husband’s friends live a mile up the road from us and they grow a lot of things, as well as have chickens! So we tend to get fresh produce and fresh eggs from them. So we can’t complain.
Hi, Hillary!
Training has been a blessing. It’s not just the dogs that are getting trained, but it’s us as well. We are learning what to do in situations and getting to understand what goes on in their mind. Right now, I’m sitting here having coffee and actually getting work done while my dogs are sitting by my side. For the first time, they aren’t causing me to stress out or go absolutely nuts. I thought just saying “no” and separating them was the trick, but boy was I wrong! They are now in the down/stay command and it’s working. Dogs need jobs and need to be told how to behave. You can’t just tell them what they CAN’T do. You have to tell them WHAT to do it. It’s pretty crazy! If I were you, I’d most definitely look into training.
Treadmill running is hard! I only like it for sprint work!
MMMM I love those aisles too!
That is so awesome! I hope to be able to do that one day!
Thank you for sharing your tomato face. Keepin it real dog
haha!
Oh my goodness… I am literally getting back into running right now!! I used to run half marathons a lot and the training just made me HATE running. I gave my body about a two-year break and I am finally getting back into the swing of things. I wanted my mind to actually go for a run. I didn’t want to force my body to do anything it didn’t want to do.
My favorite aisle in the grocery store is probably the dark chocolate aisle.. is that bad? Haha! I also love the “bar” section where there are 9408523 bars to choose from. It makes me so giddy… my family thinks I am crazy.
I DO NOT have a green thumb. Like, at all. I would love to have my own garden one day with my own little family but as for now, I will just continue forgetting to water the succulents in my room.
Have a wonderful week! I am loving all your food pictures lately, so beautiful and inspiring!
Yes! I totally know where you’re at right now!
Nope! I’m just as guilty lol. Chocolate & coffee section! Why can’t they just put it right next to each other? lol
Pinterest comes in handy!:)
Thanks so much, Anastasia!
Have a great week!
I would love to get back into running, I didn’t do it very seriously because it’s so uncomfortable for me (chronic shin splints and plantar faciitis) but it’s the only workout that actually seemed to help me lose weight so I’d like to give it another go. But starting over is so hard! I hate feeling so exhausted after so little time on the treadmill 🙁
We are wanting to get our dog into obedience training this spring. He’s 3 years old and 130 lbs. and so hard to control. He doesn’t listen (characteristic of his breed) and is aggressive towards dogs and people which is SO stressful when you can’t really control him! Hoping we have an awesome experience like you have! I can’t imaging anyone ever saying to me “wow your dog is so well behaved!” I think I’ll win the lottery before those words are ever spoken to me!!!
Hi, Kelli!
I hate starting over too, but it’s just a phase! I like to start with running in increments instead of until I can’t run any longer. It helps with feeling “defeated”
You would definitely pay off form training. It’s no fun to have your dogs act like that. Trust me, I know! And it CAN be fixed. You should definitely look into it.
I’ve always wanted to grow my own produce but haven’t ever stayed in one house long enough to start one! We flip houses in Arkansas and move a few times a year but once we settle down I’m definitely planning on starting my own garden! It seems like so much fun! (Well, and work too! But I’ll gladly do it!)
I’ve been on a small break from running too and plan to get back in on it this next month! It’s pretty tricky starting back up after a long break but I just love running SO much, not just for the physical aspect but the mental aspect even more!
My favorite aisle is definitely the coffee aisle! It just smells way too good! 🙂
That is great! 🙂 I hope you get to grow soon!
I agree! It really does help mentally 🙂
YES! coffee for days.
What kind of dogs are yours
Goldendoodles 😀
I can’t wait for you to post more protein and vegan recipes!
Thanks, Alie!
Do you have a post for people wanting to get started running?
Here is my full running story!

Can I use whey protein for the balls?
Yes!
The coffee aisle is my favorite too! It smells so good. I also like the bulk food section because of all the trail mixes.
The bulk food section is my weakness! I have no self control for trail mix lol
Where do you usually buy your salmon?
Whole Foods!
I can’t wait for your salmon recipe
Posting today, actually!
Did you dye your hair? It looks lighter.
Nope! I haven’t died my hair since last February! It always gets light and fades. In the summer, it’ll start to look red!
I know it sounds a little creeper but…I would LOVE to see photos of a house tour kinda thing simply because I ABSOLUTELY adore the way you have your house decorated! It’s so cute and looks like it has a very “homey” feel to it! I definitely need tips on how to decorate my new apartment since boys can well- lets just say I wouldn’t trust my boyfriend decorating alone ! 🙂
Hi, Jennifer!
I plan on doing that eventually! I just want everything to be done first :)I’m all about cozy and homey for sure!
I adore how much your pups love cows. I think that’s the cutest thing in the world! People think I’m weird because I think cows are so freaking cute, but now I know that at least Grumples agrees with me :).
I’m also obsessed with fridge pics! It’s so weirdly satisfying when Ben and I have stocked up our fridge and it looks all awesome and healthy. Like… YES.
I definitely want to start running regularly again, but right now it’s still SO cold. I hate having to avoid snow patches, and the cold makes it hard to breath. So nope, I’m not hardcore enough to stick that out. Hopefully it warms up soon!
I pretty much love every aisle in the store. Wandering the grocery store is like a hobby for me. Ben literally has to come find me and force me to leave. It’s a problem…
We had our first garden this past summer! SO fun to plant your own foods and then get to enjoy them. We can’t wait to do it again!
Hi, Susie!
Cows are adorable. Every time I pass them, I contemplate a vegetarian status. I really do. Have you seen Chip and Joanna Gaines pet cow? It’s ADORABLE.
Lol always feels good! 🙂 Never have to wonder whats for dinner.
Ew, yea, I don’t do the cold well.
HAHAHA seriously funny how similar kyle and ben are. He calls my trips to the grocery store a “production.” lol
Ahhhh exciting!
Have a great week!
What time do you drink coffee in the morning?
Normally after dog walks! Probably around 7 am! 🙂
Your dogs are so cute! Glad you’re being responsible and getting them trained.
Thank you!
I admire people who participate/run marathons, but I have ZERO interest! I run 6 times a week usually and maintain a pretty decent pace. People always ask what I train for and I just respond with “life!”. I LOVE running. It is my time to be selfish and do something completely for myself. But the thought of taking that and turning it into a “chore” or a “job” or something I have to do just ruins it! I am so happy your running for yourself again. I have never run over 7 miles and even that is hard on my body! 5 is my sweet spot. I feel amazing afterwards and my body doesn’t hate me!! Good for you, girl!!! Wish Charlotte and Raleigh were closer–we’d make amazing running buddies! If you’re ever up this way, let me know!!!
Favorite aisle…I love the coffee aisle, but the wine aisle holds a special place 🙂 That and coffee creamer!!
Hi, Carlee!!
Hahaha I love that, and that’s pretty much how I feel now! I can’t wait to run today, but it’s going to be for “life” 😀 And six times a week? Wow! That’s a lot! Good for you. It really does become a chore when you’re training (if it’s not your thing.) I agree! I enjoy running what my body wants to run and not what a training plan tells me to do. My body was NOT built for that lol
I’ll definitely let you know !:)
hahaha I can’t believe I’ve been five months coffee creamer free!!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed those balls on Sunday Taralynn! I laughed out loud! (They look delicious and I hope to enjoy some balls too someday after I try the recipe!). 🤗🙃
HAHAHA!
Hey there! You’re cooking this week looks SO DELICIOUS!! I can’t wait for that patio post because so far, your back yard area looks really nice, I can only imagine what it’ll look like when you add the other things that you’re working on!!
Quick question – how day you cook your shaved brussel sprouts? Do you buy them already shaved, what do you use on them, etc. I’ve never cooked them any other way than roasting them after only cutting them in half – and I LOVE brussel sprouts.
Thanks!
Enjoy your gorgeous weather!!
Hi, Sarisha!!
Thanks so much!!!!
I just buy them pre-shaved. BUT you can use a pizza cutter or salad chopper! OHHHH I love them too!!!!
xo xo
Where are your pink shoes from?!
Aldo! 😀
How do you make your crispy salad topping? Do you roast it in the oven? Seasoning? Temp? Time? Would love to know! 🙂
Hi, Angela!
I just buy roasted plain garbanzo beans! so no need to toast them and the sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are bought toasted as well!
Taralynn,
I am so happy to have rediscovered your blog! I was reading when you were at “Undressed Skeleton” and you helped me and inspired me through many things (and gave me some great recipes!) Your blog exudes so much color, beauty, and positivity! Thank you for sharing your thoughts here!
I look forward to reading more <3
Taralynn! I’m so excited you’re starting to post your fridge pictures! I’ve been following your blog for YEARS (this is the first time I’m commenting though) and I remember you taking a picture of your fridge a long time ago and I still look back at that for inspiration. Thanks so much!
My favorite aisle in the grocery store is the fruit section and/or the popcorn aisle! Have you ever tried Buddha Bowl popcorn? It’s the best! I highly recommend it. Typically I grow some vegetables/fruits in my parents garden but this summer I’m trying to go a little simpler with it and just focus on spinach, kale and herbs like basil and thyme.
How much lime juice did you mix in with the BBQ Sauce for the marinade?
Real question, how do you keep your barbecue so clean?!?!
I use a grill rack or tinfoil! 🙂
Brilliant!!
Your patio has some such a long way, and I am sooo jealous of it! It looks so relaxing!
Thanks, Nika!
