So far, it’s been the best Monday ever. I planned on writing the recap post at the airport this morning, but a rush hour in Charlotte is funny. I made it to the airport thirty minutes early, which wasn’t enough time to break out the laptop, and don’t get me started on airplane wifi.
I’m writing from the hotel room in Sarasota! I’m here with Tropicana on a press trip, but I’ll blog all about that later. I have about an hour before dinner, so I’m trying to sneak in my recap before then!
I hope you are all having a FANTASTIC Monday!
I didn’t sleep too well last night. I thought I was going to have the best sleep ever because I ran nine miles on Sunday, didn’t stop running errands until 7 pm, and played with the dogs until late. I was so cozy in bed, fell asleep so fast, but was wide awake at 3 am. I dealt with some awful cramps last night (endo doesn’t play games), and they were enough to keep me awake. Once I’m up, it’s hard to shut off my brain, so the coffee hour was arriving early.
I pulled myself together by 7:00 am and took off for the airport.
Luckily there were no issues with the flight. The plane was right on time in both cities. I was so excited to land and be back in Florida.
Now, I’m relaxing in my hotel room and ready to blog about my week! We had vitamin c facials today that were out of this world. I can’t wait to blog all about it, but for now, let’s just start with last Tuesday!
Remember when I wrote about my awful run last Saturday? Well, this three-mile run was the first workout since. I just needed to test the knees. I’ve been trying to take it easy. Luckily, this was a good run and a boost of confidence. Even though it was only three miles, I felt really good about it. I was desperate for anything positive after the atrocious long run.
I finished all of my work and met up with Becca for coffee later in the afternoon. We decided to try Hex Coffee out in Southend. It’s a new spot, and they have pretty decent coffee. I loved how pretty it was 🙂 I regretted not asking for an extra shot of espresso.
After coffee, I headed to the mall to pick up some outfits for my trip. I didn’t feel like busting out the summer clothes yet.
I didn’t get around to cooking anything fancy this week. I made a mistake by walking around the mall for three hours on an empty stomach. I was so hungry that I bought a ton of food at Fresh Market on the way home because I didn’t feel like cooking. I had mac and cheese (no shame), fresh fruit, chicken, vegetable salad, and mixed nuts on my drive home. This is what happens when you skip lunch. NO GOOD.
Becca was taking a staycation, so we headed to the gym early Thursday morning and then had lunch at Burtons.
I had their superfood salad. It came with spinach, quinoa, tomatoes, goat cheese, cranberries, and mustard vinaigrette on the side.
I ended the day with Kombucha! I am so obsessed with Gingerade now.
Friday morning breakfast: turkey sausage, cinnamon waffle with butter and syrup, and two eggs over easy!
I hit the jackpot while shopping on Friday morning. I got everything in the photo above for $125! It was all on sale at the outlets. I bought two pairs of running capris at Asics and five pairs of shorts and four tank tops at Nike!
I headed out to my parent’s house to let the dogs run on Friday afternoon. I like to drink coffee and write from their back patio. I feel sorry when I blog at home, and the dogs are stuck inside on a beautiful day. I’m such a sucker for those two!
I always have to be careful with my coffee around Leo. He LOVES the stuff.
I’m still hooked on my Greek salads…
This Greek salad recipe can be found here!
I woke up super early on Saturday morning so Grumples and I could walk for a couple of miles. I also wanted to get things done around my place before my afternoon race. I had a banana protein shake with my coffee and then headed upstairs to organize my closet and hang up some photos in my bedroom. I’ve been doing more and more each day to pull my place together.
Kyle is going to help me put the office together next weekend and I’m so excited!
Every year, I run the Fort Mill Running Five race. I wasn’t going to do it this year because I was still hung up on that crappy Saturday run. I wanted to rest my knee and stay off of it, but this was going to be my mom’s first 5k, and I couldn’t let her do it alone. I wanted to be there to support her.
The event has always been early Saturday morning, but they changed it to a 4 pm race this year. I’m not a huge fan of afternoon races. I like to run it early morning and have the rest of the to myself.
I decided just to run it for fun and not worry about any pace. Sprinting or running too hard could potentially put too much stress on my knee. I didn’t want to risk it before my half marathon. I’ve been training for almost seven months, and I’d be crushed if I were to get injured over a 5k. I know it’s only three miles, but running it too fast is too risky, especially since I had Achilles tendonitis and runner’s knee.
Training for this half has put my body through a lot of stress. My body is going through a transition that I’m trying to accept. When I finish this half, I’m spending two weeks in Hawaii, and I don’t plan on running one mile. I’m ready for the break. I’ve talked with a couple of runners who have experienced the same changes and body stress during training, and its good to know that I’m not alone.
What kind of changes? Well, I’ve been running three times a week, going to the gym twice a week, walking every day, eating extremely healthy, chugging more water than a fish, and I’ve put on 7lbs in the past month. I know my body is defending against all the training and some of it is new muscle. If it’s one thing I’ve learned, training for a half will not help with weight loss. I just have to keep pushing forward and accept the changes as I grow stronger as a runner. I can’t let myself obsess over it.
I am going to be writing a post about running and weight gain because it’s not always a bad thing.
The route changed this year, and there were more hills on the back trails. I just kept a comfortable pace and had fun. I had a nine-mile run planned for Sunday, and I still had to save energy for that.
Kyle snapped me the entire race and the videos were hilarious. It’s one of those situations where you think you look like a superhero when you’re running, but in reality, you look like a little puppy playing fetch.
Crossing that finish line without one ounce of knee pain made me happier than finishing the race.
Here comes my mom! I was SO damn proud of her for finishing her first race. I’ve never seen her so happy before.
I had some tea and water to cool down after running.
Orange cream popsicle from King of Pops!
My mom placed third in her age group! I placed third the first time I ran three years ago. I placed first last year and this year. The funny thing is that I learned that I was the only one in my age group lol, so guess I placed last too?
I placed 12th out of 77 for the females and 47th out of 180 for the entire race. Not too bad!
I loved having my biggest fan there to support me. He made me smile every time I passed him. The butterflies made me run faster.
We had dinner at Red Bowl to celebrate my mom’s first race! I ordered the chicken lettuce wraps and a house ginger salad. Whenever I order lettuce wraps, I always have them put the sauce on the side; otherwise, I swell up like crazy from all the sodium. That bowl of sauce had over 8000mg sodium. That is terrifying.
I had to start Sunday early. There was so much to do!
I made coffee, had a waffle, two eggs, and a banana for breakfast.
I met up with Meighan at eleven for our long run.
I had half of the protein plus bar thirty minutes before our run and saved the other half for after my run. I also stored ice water in my car for after the run!
We ran the beautiful neighborhoods of Charlotte. I took photos of our route so you could how pretty it was. The weather was PERFECT for a long run.
As soon as we started out, I knew right away this was going to be a good run.
We had no expectations for our run, and we even said we’d stop at six miles if we weren’t feeling it. I think having no expectations is what worked. We didn’t try to race the clock; we just had a nice easy paced run.
Move over, squirrel!
I just guessed when it came to directions. It always made me feel better when we landed on a familiar path. It would not have been fun to finish the run miles away from the car. That would have been one of the thirstiest walks back!
We ran a quick loop around Freedom Park and then made our way down the Sugar Creek Greenway.
The 70 degree breezy and overcast day was ideal.
There wasn’t one time during the run where I felt like stopping, where I felt lightheaded or had any discouraging thoughts pass through my mind. This run gave me the confidence I had been searching for all week. I think not worrying about pace and learning how to run slow is the key. My body has a comfortable pace, and if I push it during a long run, it doesn’t respond well. We hit a lot of hills on this run, but they weren’t anywhere near the hills we ran last week during the long run. This run felt amazing!
If you don’t follow me on Snapchat, my username is @taralynnmcnitt 🙂
I finished all of the to-dos on my list after our run, and I finally had time to relax.
Sunday night! 🙂 I’ll blog about the Weekly Tasting this week.
I made eggs for dinner, green tea, and fell right asleep.
Questions for you!
- I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
- What struggles do you face with fitness?
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog says
Yay, been waiting for your recap! I am a regular reader for sure, and I dunno why… I just love reading about other people’s lives in general, because we lead such different ones!

HI Charmaine!
I agree:) I do that with other blogs too!

Focus on being strong and healthy rather than a number on the scale. It’s so much less important.

Hey Tara! I’ve been reading your blog since 2012 and I love the recap posts! They inspire me to be more active during the week, to eat well, and to just enjoy life! I can’t quite explain it but I love them! I also love reading about your life in Charlotte. I’m about to graduate college and am considering a job offer there! I’ve only been to charlotte once so it would be a big move (I’m from Chicago) but you seem to love it and it looks beautiful!!
When it comes to fitness, I have a hard time keeping a routine and keeping motivated! Usually I’ll go through a week or two where I go to the gym or take a ton of fitness classes but the next week I’ll get busy and won’t have time or energy for any type of workout!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Lauren!
I’m happy my blog brings that motivation to you!
CHARLOTTE IS AMAZING, especially for your age!!! You will LOVE it. It’s like a warm mini chicago.
I think that is just life! Plus you deal with the cold weather!
Vanessa says
I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
To be honest, I usually just browse through your recap posts instead of reading every single word. But what I love about them is how much they inspire me to be active and eat healthy myself. They are a great motivation!
What struggles do you face with fitness?
I find it hard to incorporate workouts in my weirdly changing schedule as a student. E.g. currently I am not stressed at all but a few weeks back I had so little time that workouts were my very last priority. But I also feel that my body would have needed some exercise to cope better with all the studying I did.
Taralynn McNitt says
I love that. I wish I could have a blog with no words at all actually and that is why I always have SO MANY PHOTOS! hahaha
You just have to keep listening to your body!

I would love to work with you! I own a clothing line in NYC!

You can shoot me an email!:)
Anne Long says
I keep coming back because of how you’ve inspired me. Because of you I started taking more of an interest in how I was living my life. You inspired me to start blogging, running, eating better; I’ve changed my lifestyle because of you, and it’s made all the difference. I can honestly say that you are my role model and each post is a dose of Taralynn inspiration that I find myself appreciating and anticipating. I wish you blogged everyday, but that’s a lot to ask of someone who has such a busy life.
Like you, I struggle with running at times: feeling like I should be going for miles but my legs telling me that I might not even make it the next five minutes. On those days, like you, I try to push through and just finish. But not focusing on making a certain mile time or a certain distance seems to help me relax and just enjoy the run for however long my run is that day.
Question for you: do you email fans and answer fan emails on your gmail?
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow. That is amazing. Sometimes I wonder why the heck I spend time writing about my life on the internet, especially when it’s about a salad, but that is why. Thank you for the reminder. I love that you have taken control of the way you live your life!
I will eventually blog every day! I try to fit in days where I can reply to everyone and do emails! I think if my blogs were shorter (i can do that) it’ll be much easier!
I do as many emails as I can! I really like to focus on commenting here because it’s all in one place and a lot of the emails get pushed in the sea of other emails.

1. I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
– Your posts are so relatable!! They motivate me to get out and explore Charlotte more (ESPECIALLY for the coffee!!). I go through phases where I like running, and then I hate it. But I’m doing a 5k in hilly Ballantyne in May with my mom! (wish me luck!!!) I’m hoping this summer I really buckle down on my running and fitness!
What struggles do you face with fitness?
– I have a really bad back, and I have a hard time finding good exercises that challenge me without hurting my back. It is a very delicate balance to exert myself but avoid injury, and it is a never-ending battle! I may sign up for Pilates! I’ve done it in the past and LOVE it, and it really helps my back, but it’s just so expensive for the classes!!
Taralynn McNitt says
OMG. GOOD LUCK ON THAT 5K! Ballantyne country club is where the hills are at, so hopefully you dont have to run those!!!
You should start doing pilates at home!
Shannen says
Congrats on 1st (and last ?) and your 9-mile. You’re gonna kill the half marathon!
I have been reading your blog since 2011. Part of it may have started as living vicariously through you and also looking to you for inspiration. Now that I am almost 24 and able to do live the life I want, reading your blog Feels like an old friend. If that makes sense!
Motivation. Like yesterday, I knew that I needed to workout, but didn’t have anything to get me moving. So instead of a YouTube workout, I took the dogs for a walk. But they appreciated the extra walk.
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol thanks girl!!!
I can’t believe you have been reading so long! I’ve ALWAYS enjoyed your comments 🙂
I always do that and I did it today when i didn’t feel like running! The dogs love it. I actually wished I loved running as much as my dog does!
Kalina says
1. We’ve faced similar struggles (e.g. Gaining weight, maintaining weight loss), and you have an amazing talent of putting it into words, something I don’t have. I also love your ideas, recipes, workout plans, etc. and what you share in your personal life. I don’t know you in person, but I’m always rooting for you! I wish I had more active friends to do things with.
2. I tend to go all out too Much and over exhaust myself after a few weeks with my fitness routines. I’m almost always training for a half marathon, and that + strength training+job+ trying to maintain a social life takes its toll!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Kalina! I think a lot of us can relate to that! Join some running groups because I guarantee you’ll make so many friends who have the same goals as you!
It does take a toll for sure!
Bethany @Luluruns says
Hey Taralynn! I think what keeps bringing me back is your honesty. I love how real you are with your readers and that is something that inspires me! I want to be real like you are with my readers too. I also love just seeing how you live life and what fires you up. Noisy? Maybe… 😉
I so hear you on the running weight gain! I’ve heard that from so many runners! You are not alone! When I ran my half marathon, I gained weight too. Even though I gained a few pounds though, the experience was so worth it and it really does make you a better runner – at least mentally!
Hope you have a fantastic weekend girl! I’m so jealous you are in Florida!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Bethany!
I feel the same way with you too! I love following your journey, YOUR COFFEE PICS, and seeing all the fun things you do with the family.
It’s fo frustrating, but I know it’ll be worth it when I cross that finish line.
Back in the carolinas now!
Kyra says
I love reading your recap posts because it gives me ideas/inspiration for my life! I love to see what you eat because I’m trying to expand my options in that area. I also get motivated when I read about your week! And, it’s fun!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Kyra!:)
Melissa says
What a surprisingly tough question lol. I’ve been reading your blog for probably going on 4 years now. You’re just a very cheerful inspiring person, I like reading about your workouts through the week because it reminds me that I can/should do it too. And I guess you’re very relatable, you write about your days (good and sometimes bad) and that makes it very easy to have a connection with you and wanting to come back and find out what you’re up to next!
I’m also very jealous of all the nice weather you have in the south and seeing your pictures of sunshine and flowers makes me hopeful haha. You weren’t always there but you have always had nice pictures
My biggest struggle with fitness has just always been finding the motivation. I used to have a gym membership but they’re just so expensive here, so now I try and do my workouts from home. But trying to get yourself to workout when you can find a million things to distract you can be hard. I also struggle with the motovation to COMPLETE a workout ive set when Im at home and alone. I fond it helps if I set out workout clothes (oldest trick in the book) and I need to write down my workouts or follow YouTube videos so I feel accountable to get through it.
Whatever the reasons, you’ve kept me coming back and you’re an inspiration so please don’t quit any time soon! ?
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Melissa! 🙂
I actually prefer outdoor and some workouts much better. They gym can be a big smelly place that I have to actually leave the house and drive to sometimes!
I also like to watch inspirational videos, read blogs, and get inspired to workout!!
I don’t plan on it!
xo
Carleigh says
Hi Tara Lynn! I’ve been following your blog since your very first one about weight loss! This one is so much more motivating though. I went through an awesome phase of working out for about 9 months (4 years ago) and got to my fittest and healthiest and by far my happiest. I have major depression and anxiety and I know I had some during that time but nearly non existent. I look back on that all the time and any time I try to go to the gym to jump start that lifestyle again I get discouraged and lazy and so unmotivated. The biggest thing is I don’t cook a lot and before I didn’t either but Idefinitely made more time to make myself food (lots of fruits and veggies and water) it wasn’t so much about weight loss then for me but I kept a steady 135lbs and felt amazing. And how I’m 5’7 and 170. I’ve had a lot go on in my life that are incredibly high stress, but all things eating healthy and exercising would help me with and I know this but I can’t seem to grasp that motivation I need to stick with it. I don’t know the last time you hit a long time funk of not being able to get yourself to be that healthy person…but what’s a good way to start again? To lean yourself into that lifestyle. I eat out all the time because it’s easier and with my anxiety I barely get out of bed some days. So picking up food and drinks became an easy way to go about meals but I can’t afford to keep doing that for my bank account or my health. Any tips?
Taralynn McNitt says
You are going through something so many people are! It’s tricky. You should read my post on intuitive eating! It changed my life.
Lisa says
Look forward to your blog. It’s great to get food ideas and I keep hoping I will get motivated to be more active. I
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Lisa 😀
Kyra says
I always read your recaps because they give me something fun to read and I like hearing about how you fit in workouts so I can use them as inspo. my biggest struggle with fitness is that I am a full time student that commutes so in order to work out I have to wake up early every morning, and I’m not very good at it, LOL.
Taralynn McNitt says
That can be very hard! Do you have a place to get active between classes?
Jennifer says
Girl, I’ve been there! I speed-walked a full marathon (I’m not a runner) and during the months of training, my weight went up. I think my body was really confused! Fortunately, my weight went right back down afterward. It would have been really easy for me, someone with a history of eating disorders, to get upset about the weight gain and quit training. Instead, I pushed through…The result was I completed a full marathon AND the weight eventually came off. I’d say it was a win-win. Keep with it! You got this!
Taralynn McNitt says
We can totally relate with that! Crazy you walked a marathon! How long did that take you???
Jennifer says
Oh it was ridiculous…something like 6 or 7 hours! A LONG time! I was doing it to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society so all I cared about was making my fundraising goal, my friend with Leukemia living to see me race (he passed the following month) and actually finishing!
Patricia says
Ahh your darker hair looks so good!!
1. I’ve been following your blog for a long time now, and when I read your recap posts it feels like I’m checking in with an old friend 🙂 I love the mix of exercise, social and personal stuff you post…and of course Grumples haha!
2. Where do I begin with my struggles…I think just knowing what to do sometimes…I can have the motivation to go to the gym 4 times a week, but after I do one day legs, and the other day arms…I’m kind of at a loss for a game plan…I guess I should get better at prepping and do some research.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, P!
I feel the same way when I’m catching up with readers!
Research and youtube are my best friends!
Kristen says
I love reading your recap posts! I am a fan of fitness and your posts are extremely inspiring and encourage me to stick to my fitness goals no matter what obstacles come in the way. Also, you have introduced me to some of my favorite foods (larabars, halotop, avocado brownies, brussel sprouts) so I always love to see what new foods I should try! I feel like I can connect to you because I am from Iowa, have dealt with an eating disorder, and love running!
Taralynn McNitt says
WOOOOO GO IOWA!!!!
Thank you for reading my post and you seem like a very strong and outgoing person! SOrry you had to deal with an ED, but you know you are stronger than that! Keep running and going strong!
Alyson says
Love your dark hair! It looks great on you 🙂
1) Your recap posts are definitely my favorite, but honestly I’m not exactly sure why ha. I think maybe because you’re being really authentic in them, just talking about every day stuff. I also feel like you spend your time the same as I spend mine, and it’s interesting to see your workouts, meal choices, and just what you’ve been up to.
2) I love being active. My biggest fault is FOOD. As much as I love healthy foods, I love the bad stuff too. The time change and warm weather has made me crave healthier food for some reason though? It’s also making me want to keep moving, so at least that’s good!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! Feels more like me!
Love that my recaps are your favorite because they are my favorite to write.
WE ARE THE SAME! I always crave healthier food in the summer!
Ann says
Even though I’m 45, married, have two teenage children, not a runner, I still enjoy your blog because I love your motivation, recipes, love for dogs and pretty things, and that you are just ‘normal’!!! I stumbled upon your blog a couple years ago looking at a recipe on Pinterest, and then read your story and always went back to see what other fun stuff you posted! Love your healthy eating, now if only my kids would jump on board with us! Love how you take care of yourself always!! Kudos to you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Ann 🙂
Your kids are lucky to have you as a mom and hopefully they jump on board soon! I know you’re not alone. Normal as ever and I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Chelsea says
I struggle to keep motivated with working out of that makes any sense. I start off great and a week into it I give up.
Taralynn McNitt says
You should try to find a workout buddy!
Paige says
I love your recap posts because your life really inspires me! It just looks so fun. I love food, coffee, fitness, decor, projects, and trying new things. Also, I love traveling. Very jealous you’re going to Hawaii! 🙂 You have such a dreamy job! I’m in pharmacy school right now and I enjoy that too, but doesn’t leave time for many side things these days.
As for fitness, I have trouble sticking with one thing and doing it regularly. I love yoga, HIIT training with weights, running outside, and recently tried kickboxing. I feel like I don’t workout with a good enough schedule to see solid results. Even with yoga, I wish I could get my butt to class more to feel like I’m getting somewhere with poses! But it’s all about the journey and I always feel so good after working out.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Paige!
You are doing IMPORTANT and rewarding things. I think it’s amazing that you are in pharmacy school. One day you’ll look back and realize that it was worth every second of the toughness!
You nailed it at the end…

Hey Taralynn,
I am currently looking to get back into running. It has been a few years sadly lol. When you first started running or when you got back into the swing of things, what was the best routine you found? I have been looking on pinterest and several different running sites for “running for beginners” and all of them seem to be quite different.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Destiny!
If you read the post I wrote about my relationship with running, I have a little post on how I started again! It’s on the side bar 🙂

Nice job on your nine miles!

1. I love how relate-able you are! Some bloggers (Girl Meets Glam) are too “staged,” but I love that you keep it real, the good, bad, & ugly. And of course, the pup updates!
2. I am not a natural runner, so just trying to stay motivated and not kill my shins in the process. Body image is always a tough one. I want to run and be healthy, but like you wrote, you gain weight (some muscle), but we are so programmed to just look at the numbers on the scale and think big numbers are bad. Trying to remember that is not true is sometimes a challenge.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Tiffany!
Oh, I love her blog lol, but I do agree she’s very staged. I like her blog for fashion ideas and table placements.
Im not a natural runner either and I think thats why it makes it harder.
I think training is very different than running for weightloss. The scale is awful for sure and I should focus on it.
Destiny says
Hey Taralynn,
I am currently looking to get into running again. It has been a few years sadly lol. When you started running or when you got back into the swing of things what routine worked best for you? I have been looking on pinterest and some running sights at “running for beginners” and they all seem to be quite different. I just don’t want to just jump into it and end up with an injury.
To answer your questions:
I am a regular recap post reader, I continue to read because you are truly an inspiration. I went through exactly what you did in high school and I also went through an eating disorder. To know someone else went through all of that and overcame it all is pretty dang awesome.
My fitness struggle is constantly feeling defeated or like I am not doing well at all. Especially at the gym when you see all these fit beautiful people working out and It just makes me want to stand in the corner. I would work out at home more but I am never quite for sure what to do.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Destiny! Check out this link of mine. I wrote all about my relationship with running and how I got here!
Thank you for reading! Sorry you went through an ED but you can only grow stronger from here!
You just have to enter your bubble when you are at the gym! The wouldnt have those bodies if they were at home on the couch doing nothing! I use the fit people in the gym as inspiration and motivation! Maybe go with a workout buddy!
Michelle B says
As an tumblr to simply reader- honestly, I come back for a couple reasons. a. You’re inspirational by being real b. We’ve been encountering similar things in life and I like to see your approach(&style!) and c. I’ve read so long that it feels like I know you? Like it’s a chance to catch up and hear about your world again. (as a side- The first time I heard you talk on Snapchat I was thrown because- I had heard your musings for so long and not actually heard you! )
2. Injury here and there, but mostly day in and day out motivation.
Taralynn McNitt says
I love that Michelle. Thank you so much! I feel the same way when I have to listen to myself on that thing hahaha
Laura says
I have run several half marathons and did my first full this past fall. You would think all of the running, strength training, yoga etc that you do alongside with your training schedule would keep you at the same weight, but I always pack on the pounds! It’s never a ton of weight, but I can still tell the difference in my body, how my clothes fit and my thighs always bulk up. It’s all muscle, but when my pants don’t fit in the thighs it can be frustrating. As soon as I finish my race and stop training, I drop the weight super fast without even trying so don’t get discouraged! You will have a great race!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is amazing! Congrats on all of your running.
I honestly thought my weight would go down rather than up. BOY WAS I WRONG!! I know I’ll be cutting back for sure! Thanks for the encouragement.

I’m a regular recap post reader and I come back because you are inspiring! I’ve been following along your journey for a long time, and sometimes your posts are just what I need to get back on track. Plus, it’s so nice to have a spot of joy on the internet! I struggle with weight training in regards to fitness. I love cardio, but I rarely take the time to workout with weights. That needs to change!

Thanks V!
I used to be like that, but I’ve learned to LOVE both! The more i learn, the more I love it.

It took me a long time to figure out why I couldn’t stick with anything fitness related. Eventually I found the balance but it took me a long time to learn why I couldn’t stick to going to the gym even 3x a week.
Thank you for being such an outstanding person and I look forward to many more recap posts.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Maggie!
Balance is KEY!!! Sounds like you have it down now!

Hey girl! Great job getting back on the horse and running that 5k! I’ve been in a running class in college and have been running around 15 miles a week but I’ve gotten really bad shin splints from pushing myself too hard in a 5k two weeks ago so I know how important it is to take it easy and listen to you body.
I keep coming back because you inspire me to keep pursuing a healthy lifestyle! You are so positive, are always doing such fun things that your recap posts are one of the highlights of my week. 🙂 I also appreciate your balanced view of food because I struggled with an eating disorder in high school and your blog is always such a positive influence.
Keep doing what you’re doing and being you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Shin splints are awful!! I used to get them in basketball.
ED’s are scary, and finding this balance made my life so much more enjoyable and more DOABLE. I don’t feel miserable anymore and I actually have more energy than ever.
Thank you for the kind words! Means a lot to me. Nice job on your running!

Hi Taralynn,
Just have to say I’m super jealous of the nice weather where you live! But I’ve been a regular reader for a few years and I always look forward to your recaps. I’m always motivated by you to do better with fitness and health. Seeing what you eat and what workouts your trying give me ideas for staying healthy. I think one of my biggest struggles is staying consistent. I tend to get bored if I do the same workouts or eat the same healthy foods, and it turns out I’m not that creative with either so I love reading healthy bloggers to get new ideas! So keep up the good work because I really enjoy reading your blog!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Olivia 🙂
I am very lucky right now with this weather!!
I think boredom is so common when it comes to healthy eating and fitness. You are doing the right thing by switching it up!

1. I’ve always enjoyed reading about people’s lives which is why I love reading blogs and yours have always captivated my interests!
2. the struggle I face most is often motivation. I live in cold, dreary Michigan and I hate running inside, so some times I just don’t have the motivation to go run outside when I could be cuddled up with a warm cup of tea.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you 🙂 That is nice to know!
I think it’s hard in the winter, especially in Michigan. I had to deal with that in Detroit!
I totally stayed inside with my tea lol

Hey Tara! I have been a consistent reader of your blog since I found you on instagram. I enjoy reading your blog because you are original and you cover sooo many topics: health, fitness, home decor, relationships, travel, fashion and of course your beautiful doggies. Most importantly, you seem so sincere in all your posts that you are a joy to follow. Keep up the good work!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Katie!
I can’t wait to start looking at doing more decor posts!
& thank you for all the kind words!

Hi Taralynn! So proud of you on the long run! 🙂 That’s amazing that you can run 9 miles at all. Think of how many people can’t do that. Bravo, girl!
I read your blog as soon as a new post comes out! I LOVE the recap posts the most though. It’s so fun to see what you’ve been up to, and it’s really inspiring to see your motivation with running, fitness, wellness, etc. I love how real you are. You don’t hide the negative, and you are joyful about the positive. It’s real life, and you don’t make everything always seem like sunshine and roses, but you’re positive no matter what! That’s what is the most important. I’m always inspired and uplifted after reading your posts.
For fitness, I struggle the most with consistency. I eat healthy the majority of the time, but I also struggle with overeating the healthy stuff! It’s also hard for me to find time to workout (work all day starting early in the morning, and I always have errands and chores and such when I get home from work). For me, it’s kind of all or nothing. I’m either putting ALL of my time and energy into eating healthy and working out, or I’m putting very little time into it. I wish there was a healthy balance of it. Right now, I’m focusing more on eating healthy and trying not to overeat. It’s a daily battle! Any advice?
Hope you’re having fun in FL!
Taralynn McNitt says
So True girl.
I NEVER thought I’d be able to do that. EVER.
It makes me really really happy to hear that and I live by the positivity. It’s what I strive for and I always look at others for the same feeling.
I think so many people go through what you are going through. Me included. I find it really easy to stick to my workouts when they are with friends! I also feel like it’s great to change it up and set goals that FORCE you to stick with a workout.
Florida was amazing! Wish I was back.

1. I love reading all of your posts no matter what they are about. I’ve been keeping up with your blog for a few years now and it’s fun to read about all of your new adventures. You keep me motivated with my own fitness goals and give me new ideas of what to try (smoothies, workouts, salads, etc). I tell my mom all the time that I would love to be besties with you lol. Plus, Grumples and Leo are obviously just adorable.
2. My weight loss journey has been a long one honestly. I have lost 80 pounds since middle school (I just turned 30) and have been dealing with an almost year long weight loss plateau so finding ways to change that has been a struggle and frustrating.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Katie 😀
Your comment made me smile!!!:) I can always use more besties.
I’m glad you like my pups, they are a big part of the blog for sure.
CONGRATS on your weight loss that is incredible.
You are amazing.
Becky says
1. That’s a great question. I’m not really sure exactly why. Maybe because I feel like I’m living a different life and experiencing new things through your recaps about your life. I hope that doesn’t sound creepy!
2. I struggle with enjoying exercise. I do it because I feel like I have to, not because I actually enjoy it. I’ve been running casually for a while now, but I can say for sure that I’ve never really enjoyed it. Weight lifting is a little better, especially because I can see and feel results more, but I’d never describe it as fun. Yoga is probably the closest I’ve come to enjoying exercise, but again, I don’t think of it as fun and I’m all too happy to skip a class if I have a reason.
Taralynn McNitt says
Not creepy at all! I feel the same when I read other blogs!
You definitely need to find something that makes it fun. Maybe find a workout group? That is fun!

I’ve been a reader for 5 years and I feel like I have some sort of connection with you, especially through weight loss. I love your weekly recaps – they inspire me to be more productive and try new things.
My only struggle with fitness is that throughout the week I work 7a-3:30p, so I have to workout after work because my gym doesn’t open until 6am and I leave for work by 6:20. So if I have had a rough day at work I struggle with getting the motivation to go to the gym.
Keep on doing you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow! That is amazing. 🙂 I’m glad my recaps can do something for your motivation. I try to motivate myself while writing them.
Have you thought about changing gyms at all? My boyfriend goes straight from work to the gym 4 days out of the work week and has made a habit of it. You could try that!

I like that you are relatable, but also inspiring to live a healthy life. I feel like so many blogs are too staged these days, while yours is more real. That’s what I like about the recap posts and why you are one of the very few blogs I follow.
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow, thank you Alyssa!!!

Hi! I’m a relatively new reader but I really enjoy seeing the healthy meals you eat, hearing about your adorable dogs, and your day to day life. It’s so different than mine as a high school teacher in California. I used to be a runner but had some serious knee pain after a couple of half’s and now stick to yoga and spin classes. Reading your blog posts about running brings back all the fun memories!
Taralynn McNitt says
Welcome 🙂
I think living different lives is always fascinating. I follow a lot of people who are SO DIFFERENT from me, but we can totally learn from each other. I love spin classes and I can’t wait to get back into it again. The knee pain is scary and I get nervous whenever I feel an ache.
I hope you stick around! xo xo

Hey Taralynn! Florida looks beautiful! Hope you are having a blast!
1. I’ve been following your blog for years, all the way back to undressed skeleton. We are close to the same age and it makes it easier to relate when it comes to meal prep, fitness, etc. as opposed to some other blogs. You also don’t sugarcoat it! If it’s hard, you admit it! Makes it feel good that I’m not the only one who sometimes struggles with runs!
2. My biggest struggles with fitness is definitely the food!!! (I know, not totally “fitness”), I’m up early enough in the morning to get moving, but my whole family is picky, picky, PICKY! (I still love them though 🙂 ) Running isn’t my best friend either, but now that its above freezing it helps to get outside for a change of scenery.
Taralynn McNitt says
Florida is so much fun. Wish I was there longer!
I thin more people need to definitely let the hard times shine more. It’s what makes us human! Perfection is a joke.
I think food and fitness go hand and hand, so I consider the same. Sometimes you have to put yourself as an individual when it comes to healthy eating and you just have to work hard to set the example in front of everyone!
Running is great for a scenery!
Teresa says
Hi!
Loving following your trip to Tropicana! I have enjoyed the snapchats – especially of the DELICIOUS looking drinks you have snapped! The weather looks gorgeous and I hope you have a great time.
I always read the recaps! I have tried many of your recipes over the years (your black bean burgers and healthy pumpkin bars are my go to), your food combo ideas (my husband and I now eat ground turkey/rice/avocado bowls all the time), and snack ideas. Your recaps are definitely motivators because you share your struggles with fitness/running as well as your successes and I think most people can relate. Also- without question, the pictures of the pups! I have been reading your blog for about 6 or 7 years and you were a main motivator to start mine.
My runners knees are my constant fitness struggle. It’s disheartening when you’re 26 years old and find it hard to walk upstairs after even the shortest of runs. I have found if I’m diligent with resting when I need to, hydrating, icing, and stretching my hamstrings, I can help my situation. I have also been adding some collagen to my morning coffee and found it’s helped my joints!
Have a great week!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Teresa!
Thanks so much. Wish I was back in Florida again.
I think starting a blog is so much fun and I cannot wait to read yours. I’m so happy you love my recipes and the pups!!
That was awful when I had it. YOU HAVE TO REST. I actually took an entire year off from running. I did spinning and other strength training exercises and now I’m so cautious.

I am from Germany, but worked in Charlotte for almost 2 months and I am in love with the city.
Your whole story gives me so much hope, that I can make it too. I have lost 40 pounds with your blog and your inspiring way.
Hope this makes sense 😀

Thank you, Sabrina!
That makes me so happy and it means a lot!

Congrats on losing 40! That is amazing and you are so tough!!

I think I’ve been reading for about 3.5 years now, so I think that makes me a regular? 😉 For me, I feel like I’m almost catching up on what’s going on in the life of an old friend (at the risk of sounding incredibly creepy haha).
My latest struggle with fitness is committing to early morning workouts. They’re so much better for me personally since I get shaky and lightheaded if I fit in my gym time after work, but I’m too tired to consistently drag myself out of bed. But it’s something to improve on!
Enjoy your time in Florida! I’m in Tampa and our weather this week is perfect, so I’m sure it’s similar in Sarasota! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I’d say so!:) & thanks for following me all of these years! Not creepy at all.
Ugh. MORNING workouts are awful, but if I had to do them I would. They just remind me of the morning practice days. ugh.
You weren’t too far from me at all!
Holley says
Hey Taralynn!
I love your recap posts- good eats and always fun to see what your workouts/runs are (your circuits are killer and I like to use them to inspire my own workouts!!)
Running and weight gain- it totally happens and people are always surprised when it does since running is such hard work! I found that I gained about 4 pounds during marathon training (I usually lose 0.5-1 pound during Half training… I’ve run 7 halfs and 1 full so far! Totally addicted). I found out that a lot of what you gain during distance running training is due to your body adapting to increasing its ability to store glycogen for your muscles to use after an hour of working out! When your liver and muscles store more glycogen, your body also stores more water which is one reason for small weight gains 🙂 once I stopped marthon training and went back to running and working out at my baseline, I dropped all the weight easily!
Happy running!
-Holley
Taralynn McNitt says
That is awesome, Holley!!
I was definitely shocked. I was thinking the worst too! I’m hoping to just relax after this half for a couple of weeks and let my body heal.

I love reading your recap posts! I feel like your life is full of adventure and it gives me motivation to do more with my own time instead of napping between classes haha. I’m also trying to become fit, so reading about your fitness journey helps me push through difficult times I have with my own fitness routine. You are also by far my favorite blogger and I love getting to read your posts! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Jessica!!
Thanks so much 🙂
Naps arent always a bad thing haha I wish I could nap, instead I turn to coffee.
Fitness can be hard to get into but once you start, it’s like you dont want to stop!
Thanks for all of your kind words!!!

Hi!
1) I’ve been following your blog for years and I think that I have read all of your recaps. I think you are very inspiring and you can make simple things looks interesting. I loved seeing you develop over the years. That’s what makes me look forward to reading your recaps!
2) I used to run a lot. I even ran a marathon, but now I have had an injury on my foot for more than 2 years which means I can’t run. I’ve tried many doctors and cures and nothing helped. I’ve been going to the gym and riding my bike. But it’s difficult for me because running was always my thing and people keep asking me about it.
Enjoy your time in Florida! I can’t wait to read all about it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Lauren!
I’ve definitely grown up with this blog. Crazy how long it’s been.
Injuries are literally the worst. I fear them constantly, but hopefully you can get back into it if you want to!

I always look forward to seeing the pictures in your blog. Your background scenery is alway so gorgeous.your post are not too long or too short and you don’t go on babble tangents lol! Your organization with your blog is great! You have made me want to start blogging myself. Plus i feel like I can relate to you when you talk about running and having hard runs and good runs. I need to work on getting all the doubt and fear out of my head about my half and just give it my all. I too have had some problems with my Achilles, I wonder if it’s what you have? Great post taralynn!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol thank you Casandra!!!
Blogging is a great outlet for sure. I used to have tendonitis and sometimes i get aches when I feel a flare coming. You just have to ICE after all your runs and stretch! Always stop if it’s getting too painful.
Sarah says
I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
I’ve been following your blog since 2011! So after 6 years I guess reading your posts makes me feel like I’m catching up with a friend haha. Also your life seems so fun and I love seeing the pictures of your adorable dogs and it gets me inspired to make healthy meals and workout too.
What struggles do you face with fitness?
I used to run all the time in college, and could run 6-7 miles and be totally fine. But once my IBD started acting up the stress from long runs would make it worse. I can’t tell you how many times I started training for a half but never got to do it 🙁 I took the past year off from running and focused more on strength training, circuits, and HIIT using a bike.
I actually went on my first run after taking time off this weekend. I started off at a comfortable pace and was SHOCKED when my tracker told me I ran my first mile was more than 2 mins faster than my old “comfortable” pace and ran my best 5K ever. I guess sometimes you just have to give your body time to heal and change.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you for following me all of these years, Sarah! That is amazing.
So sorry you are dealing with IBD. I love that you didn’t give up with fitness, though!
Healing is amazing for the body! You got that right.
Siobhan says
To answer your first question – I think what brings me back is knowing that your posts will inspire me to be healthier and work out more. Nothing has made me want to pick up running more than reading your blog. I also really love all your pictures, and I love seeing/hearing about the pups! You also write in a very relatable way about your life and any obstacles you face when it comes to fitness and health and that is something I think a lot of your readers love about your blog.
The main struggle I face when it comes to fitness is me just being lazy. I cancelled my gym membership a couple months ago because I wasn’t using it, which I am still okay with, but I need to motivate myself more to do home workouts. When summer/nice weather hits I will be outside playing volleyball, tennis, hiking etc so I hope that will help with my fitness motivation. For now, I try to throw a home workout in a couple times a week on days I’m not playing volleyball.
I’m sorry to hear about your cramps from endo 🙁 that’s rough. But I was glad to hear you had such great runs after your disappointing run last week! You rock xo
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you for the kind words, Siobhan!
Maybe it’s not laziness. Maybe the gym JUST ISN’T YOUR THING. Stick to fun workouts like sports! Seems like you do well with those! I’m kind of the same way.

I’ve been following you since tumblr and was so motivated by your story. I’ve loved reading your posts and seeing you evolve over the years. Your story and recipes helped me be inspired to live healthier and lose weight, and pushed me to start my own blog as well!
Thank you for inspiring me and sharing your adventure.

Hi Tara! I just keep reading cuz it’s like catching up with a friend over coffee(; and I feel you with the fitness stuff. I’ve had many ups and downs with running too. The last 4 months have included significantly less miles and running only three days a week. I still do short hiit and strength training but I’ve made it a point to stop running so hard. Running a lot does eventually make you gain weight or be stagnant, especially if you are riding that line of not eating enough carbs. I figured out that when I run less, I’m less inflamed, I’m less tired and less hungry. So it’s a win win. But I’m also not training for a half. Good luck on your race and honestly, even though it’s three weeks away, you are ready. Don’t over train. And make sure you ACTUALLY taper. It’s important. Good luck girl!! ???
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you for all the advice Rachel!
I will totally be cutting back to 10-15 miles a week for running when I’m done with this half. I want my regular fitness routine back lol I’m not going to overtrain anymore for sure. I feel like I can just do this and be done with it!:) My body is taking a huge hit and I’m so tired. Yoga and stretches are in the future!
Hope you’re having a wonderful week.

I come back to your recap posts because I like getting new ideas on meals/snacks and I also love the fact that you are so honest about when you’re struggling or had a setback. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who has struggles with my fitness journey sometimes. I think my biggest fitness struggle is getting stuck in a rut. I can’t relate to people who say they get bored in a fitness routine, because I’m honestly happy doing the same workouts everyday and have a hard time trying new exercises and routines. I’m currently trying to change up my running routine with intervals and incline settings when I run indoors, and trying new routes when I run outdoors, and I’m always looking for new strength training moves!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Meghan!
Thanks for your kind words!
RUTS ARE THE WORST, but they happen.
When you are bored, set goals, get a workout buddy, or just change up the routine! I’m excited to get back into strength training after this race for sure! Sounds like you may have struggles, but you are on top of all of them and crushing goals!

1. Your recaps are my favorite! I think it’s because you’re SO relatable and a totally real person. It’s hard for me to read blogs where all of the photos are super perfect and are always positive because its just not real! I’ve been following you for awhile and your progress is very inspiring!
2. My biggest hurdle is my diet. Getting to the gym isn’t all that hard, but eating the right food is because there are so many “right and wrong” ways.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Sammy 😀
Your words mean a lot!
Yeah, everything is very contradicting when it comes to diet, which is why I eat intuitively. You have to find what works for you and not anyone else.
Baley says
I can’t believe you are almost ready for your half! I remember when you wanted to do one years ago but you were injured. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Baley!!!

1. Gosh that’s such a good question..I really enjoy reading them but sometimes I’m like…is this creepy of me to want to know what this stranger is doing with her life?! Hahaha..I think what I like about them is it kind of fills in all of the missing pieces of who you are beyond the sponsored posts, recipe posts, and fitness posts. Not many bloggers do posts like this that I know of, and it makes you more relatable and human to me. Seeing how you work in a recipe you like one day, or just have an easy day where you eat a go-to breakfast, or when you give yourself a rest day is very relatable. I love your other posts too but the recaps are my favorite! Thank you for sharing with me and all of us!
2. Lately it’s been my sprained foot. I sprained it the beginning of February but I’m still recovering. Mentally, I feel like I can do anything. Physically, I can’t and I need to be patient. I’ll walk a few miles in a day and feel guilty for not working out, but my foot will be throbbing, and I know I did enough. Or I’ll go to the gym and do the spin bike and some strength and feel lazy after an hour because I didn’t work up a sweat, but I know that’s all my foot can handle. I’m trying not to be too hard on myself and just be patient…but it’s hard. I miss working up a sweat on a regular basis!
By the way…after seeing your Greek salads in your last post I was craving one too. I got Marie’s dressing, so good, and most of your other ingredients (plus olives because I love them) and made some homemade hummus and I’ve been eating it for lunch all week 🙂 Also, just picked up Gingerade Kombucha last night..how is the Berry Ginger one? I love how gingery the gingerade one is, lol. For some reason I love drinking it in a cup with ice and a straw…don’t ask me why, it just tastes better that way to me 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Jaime!
Thank you 🙂 You are totally not a creep. I check people’s social media and blogs frequently to see what they have been up to, even people I’ve never met before! It makes me happy to hear that you enjoy my recaps.
Sprains are so frustrating. I’m so sorry to hear you have to deal with that! I love that you are still being a rock star and doing SOMETHING. A lot of people would use that as an excuse to give up, but you are pushing through it. You will be back at the hard sweats before you know it girl. Hang in there!
ISNT THAT SALAD DRESSING AMAZING? I have had all of the flavors (not ranch or blue cheese) and they have all been on point. Yes, olives are key to a greek salad, but not mine! ick. lol, I love homemade hummus! I have been all about the supremely spicy hummus, though 🙂 It’s the second best, so if they don’t have the gingerade, I get the ginger berry! Still super tasty. I don’t think that’s weird. I prefer a lot of things with a straw! xo
Kelli says
Hey there!
I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years now, and I have to say what keeps me coming back is that you reflect honestly on the up’s & down’s you experience with exercise, running, weight and healthy eating. It’s refreshing to have that perspective because we usually get the “It’s so great all the time and you always feel awesome!” side of things which can be a bit discouraging. I’m also always interested to see what types of recipes you try out, coffee places you try and most recently your decorating as I’m looking to purchase my first home 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Kelli
I think I can relate to that completely. I get discouraged when I see SO MANY people have incredible workouts or look amazing all the time on social media. I know everyone has bumps in life, but I’ve found it to be more helpful to share them. I used to be so “happy happy” on the blog, but it’s truly helped me to be open. Everyone is quick to support and help me get through these patches.
Thank you for reading my blog over the years!
Congrats on being ready to purchase your first home. It’s very exciting. It’s fun and overwhelming at the same time, but you’ll rock it. I’ve learned to take ONE project at a time. 🙂

Gaining weight during half marathon training is one of those things that I’ll never understand, but is SO COMMON. It has happened to me, every half I’ve trained for, and I’ll race #10 this Spring. It’s infuriating. You eat well, you exercise, and gain weight!? WHAT. But, you’re not alone.
1. Hmm, I like recap posts since they’re like catching up with a friend. Relatable in some ways, but interesting because in some ways we lead such different lives.
2. I struggle to fit it all in. I love to hike, swim, bike, run, zumba, weight lift, etc. But there never seems to be time to do a little bit of it all. Especially when I am training for a half. I’m trying to do more tri’s since they are built in cross- training, but it doesn’t always work.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, I feel like some people either drop a ton of weight or they just PILE on the weight and unfortunately, I’m one of those people that can’t keep a pound off to save my life. You are the most athletic person I know! I love hearing your experience with it all and I’m glad that I’m not alone. Our bodies are funny. Congrats on #10!
That is funny you should say that. I feel like my favorite part of the recap post is catching up with common readers. Like when you write, I feel like I know you and I’m always wondering what you’re up to, so we definitely do the same with recap posts. You also have always inspired me to run! I love seeing you and Elizabeth (running for Robert) kick butt!
I can see why that is challenging for sure! Luckily summer is just about here and we don’t have to fight bad weather to fit those things in!
I hope you have a great week!
Katherine says
I never comment but I just had to after reading this post! I think you have done an amazing job training for your half marathon coming up. 7 months is a long time to commit to something and keep pushing yourself, especially in the colder months (I live in NC too on the coast) and to see how far you have come is inspiring to me! I also wanted to say YOU LOOK SO DANG HAPPY IT MAKES ME SMILE! I’ve been reading your blog for probably 3 or 4 years now and I remember when you moved all of the time. You look so happy with where you are in life and I hope all the goodness keeps going your way! Oh and also, don’t worry about the weight gain… all 7 of that is probably/mostly muscle you have gained. You look great! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Katherine.
First off. I have been skimming through the comments before getting to the airport. I like to sit down with my coffee and reply to everyone before my flight. I just wanted to let you know that your comment made me choke up. Thank you for the kind words and you are right. I am truly happy where I am at right now in life and I feel like everything has finally come together. Sometimes we go through a lot of tough times and not all of them are shown on the blog, but your comment reminded me of why I blog and why I need to keep posting the real and raw trials of life. Thank you! It’s hard for me to commit to things sometimes because I’m one of those people that think something is a really good idea and once I start I’m like NOPE! But this is one thing I’ve wanted to do for myself. I hope you are enjoying this Carolina weather and I hope you do come back to comment! It means a lot and always makes my day.
Have a great week,
Taralynn

I need to make a Greek salad. Growing up I didn’t like them but lately I’m obsessed!
Haha the first photo of your coffee you could see Leo licking his lips in the background. So cute.

Thank you, Brooklyn! That means a lot and I always look forward to your comments! I love getting to know my readers the same way. Your blog is great too!
I just started to love them the past year! JUST NO OLIVES!
lol LEO definitely had himself a lick.

I can’t wait to hear about your trip! It looks like a beautiful place!
I’m so glad to hear your back running and feeling good again! Congrats to you and your mom on your awesome race finishes! I hope I’m as awesome as your mom when I’m her age!
Your recap posts are my favorite thing to pair with a cup of coffee. I guess a little bit of everything keeps me coming back for more… dog pictures, food inspiration, coffee, and all the little stories from your days!
My biggest fitness struggle is not getting bored and staying consistent. If I do the same thing too much I get bored and give up or get discouraged.

I’m excited to share about my experience! It was so much fun 🙂
I totally agree about my mom! She is fearless. i love it . She was the one that actually inspired me to get back into running about two years ago.
Those are the things I love writing about the most!
That is why you have to change it up, always. If I didn’t hike or go to the gym, running would be the WORST. I also try to motivate myself by watching inspiring videos.
Taralynn!

I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
I LOVE seeing your photos! they are always so colorful! And I also like like seeing what you eat, it gives me ideas and pushes me to try to find healthier options. I can never make a salad look as good as you do though!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Katie!
Honestly, I get SO INSPIRED when I go to restaurants for salads. This sounds so silly, but I’ll write down the ingredients if I really like a salad so I can recreate it at home! I have done that with Zoe’s Kitchen, Panera, and Burtons! I’m glad you like the colorful photos! 🙂 Saturation and Contrast are two of my favorite things!

I gained 10 pounds training for my first half marathon and I was eating healthy too! I think our bodies go into shock with all the training.
Taralynn McNitt says
Crazy how many people have experienced the same! I actually thought something was really wrong with me!

Salads are the BOMB. When I first created by blog I almost called it SALADQUEEN! 😀 But I was afraid one day I’ll hate salads so I didn’t want to name myself something permanent. But still to this day, I love salads!
What brings me back is the authenticity you have and how relatable you are as a human being 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
YES THEY ARE!
I love that. I always call myself the salad queen! lol I eat a salad once a day and I don’t think I’ll ever stop!
Thank you for the kind words and I always love your comments!!
have a great week!

1. I continue to revert back to your blog simply because you are an inspiration. Many of the struggles you have shared over the years have paralleled my issues but unlike others I know with similar struggles, you have taken control and defined your life. Something I am attempting to do right now. Not to mention I love your tips, photos, and as a fellow coffee-addict, the appropriate appreciation for caffeine.
2. My struggles with fitness more revolve around eating, I cannot cook or bake to save my life, but I also have no clue what to get for my body or my needs (not a lot of cooking) when I go grocery shopping. I’ve looked into meal prepping but it is extremely expensive on a student budget so I am now looking for something to write down what I should buy each week while avoiding monotony (cannot stand eating the same thing multiple times in row) Which is quite unfortunately as unhealthy eating tends to affect me more than my friends or family, and that is all I seem to eat here recently.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Jess!
You just have to take your life in your own hands and direct it where you want it to go!
Lol, I feel like you HAVE to love coffee to love my blog. I’m only slightly obsessed.
My boyfriend is a huge food prepper and has done it for years. He actually saves more money doing it! He’s not the world’s best cook, but he can totally do a mean meal prep.
He cook ground turkey and ground chicken on the stove top, puts quinoa and rice in the rice cooker, microwaves his sweet potatoes, separates his hard boiled eggs, and puts each meal in a container for the entire week! He also does two shakes a day!
It really works for him!
Jennifer says
Everything brings me back. When I started reading 5ish years ago it was the healthy foods you ate. It actually inspired me to lost some weight which I did! Then you gradually started adding more and more about your life and it’s turned into a story that I’ve been following for so long that I don’t want to stop! You talk about the good and the bad and it’s been amazing to watch someone so happy transform over the years. I know so many people have mentioned it being relate-able which is so true as well, and you take the time to comment back to all of us! I feel so incredibly creepy that I know so much about you, but you share so much and it’s awesome! Whenever people ask me for recipes now all I have to say is “oh I got it from Taralynn” and they know who I’m talking about now haha Also, your pictures are always on point.
Fitness wise-keeping up with fitness in general. I had a couple of bad injuries a couple years ago which made it so I couldn’t workout for months and then I gained the weight that I had worked so hard to lose to come back. I’m actually in week 4 of consistency and I’m so proud of myself! I want to keep it up because I love seeing my body change from weights and running.
Keep doing you, girl!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Jennifer!
That just made me smile 🙂 I probably should start posting more recipes for sure, like I used to! I typically just post photos of what I’m eating and they are just TOO EASY to dedicate an entire post to lol I think it’s crazy how complete strangers can be so different, yet so relatable. I love the relationships I’ve formed with readers and that is my favorite part of the blog. Thank you for following me and always commenting over the years! It really does make my job so much fun.
Oh, girl. INJURIES are the worst. Keep up the consistency and luckily the warmer months are here and it’s easier to stick to it! You will crush all of your workouts this year! I have a feeling that new job and everything good happening is bringing you all kinds of new paths!
Have a great week!

I first cam across your blog about 5 years ago when it was on Tumblr! You’re very honest and relatable which makes me keep coming back for your recaps! I’ve tried some of your recipes, which are always great too 🙂 Your lifestyle is similar to mine, so I love reading and getting some inspiration from you.
I also have to say that you are going to CRUSH your half marathon! I ran one a couple of years ago and did not train consistently and I survived to tell the tale.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jileen and I’m so glad you found me 🙂
Thank you for that boost of encouragement! I’m PRAYING i’ll make it. I just have to remember to PACE!!!

I have been following your blog religiously for about 5 years now and I just love learning about your healthy eating habits, recipes, work outs etc. love when a new recap post comes out, it motivates me!!!
My fitness struggle is getting motivated…I work 9-5 Monday-Friday andafter work I am just drained and don’t want to work out, any advice?!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kristen! 🙂 The recaps are my favorite.
Yes, I know that can be stressful. My friend Meighan who works the same schedule works out with a group at 6 am every morning. It’s what gives her energy during her workdays and has her looking forward to the next! Maybe try getting into the habbit!

1. Definitely a regular reader I love how down to earth you are and how much we have in common, I am a huge foodie and coffee obsessed as well.
I started following you when coworkers turned me on years ago and fell in love with your blog I was trying to lose weight and you insired me with your recipes and your way of thinking about food , I lost 50 pounds because of your help .
Unfortunately though I gained it back do to a serious foot injury that required surgery and I am still not able to exercise yet , but your blog makes me smile and gives me confidence.
I would love to see you start a You tube channel though .
P.s. I also LOVE your DIY projects and your home decor.
Taralynn McNitt says
You had me at coffee obsessed 😉
Congrats on your 50lb weight loss! that is ALL YOU! amazing & inspiring.
You did it once and you know you are capable of doing it again. Maybe find a love for healthy food and other bodily exercises that don’t involve your foot in the meantime 🙂
I love doing DIY DECOR and I need to do more of it!

I love reading your recap posts because it’s like catching up with an old friend. I’ve been following your blog for a while now and am always inspired by your running. I hope to be as good of a runner as you are! Running is my favorite but I struggle with consistency sometimes. I’m training for a half marathon towards the end of may and missed my long run last week due to vacation and now that I’m home, I have the flu! Can’t wait to hear about your tropicana trip, it looks like it’s so much fun!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love hearing that 🙂
I started from never running a minute in my life, so you can definitely work your way up! Just take this time to rest, do some strength training, and get back into it when you can. Focus on hydrating!
The trip has been so much fun! Can’t wait to blog about it.
marti @fitwithheart says
i love your recap posts because we have a lot in common – running, finding balance, lovers of coffee and good eats too! don’t be discouraged about the weight gain..it happens to me too and its hard to understand. especially when i feel like i’m killing it in my workouts and have kept my nutrition on par and i gain weight? its like what the what?? most likely due to water retention when you are building muscle and your body is under a different type of stress. don’t let the numbers mess with you – you look great and think of the amazing things your body is doing!
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s good to know that I’m not the only one dealing with this weird weight gain. It doesn’t make any sense but seems like it’s so common.
I know I’m just getting stronger for sure, so I’m excited to see where this takes me!

I’ve gained weight (5-7 lbs) every time I’ve trained for a race! I think it’s totally normal. My stomach also bloats every time I run so it makes me not want to do it if i’m going to be wearing a swimsuit or something later in the day lol
Taralynn McNitt says
I think it’s normal, but it’s so frustrating! I’m not going to let it bother me and things will totally go back to normal after this race for sure! So crazy you deal with stomach bloating after a run! Crazy how all bodies are different!
Kelsey says
I’ve followed your posts since your original blog- just became part of a routine! I always went to your blog for workout tips and recipes and tips to stay healthy while traveling/eating out! Now we both are in the same city so I always love to hear new places that you try out and drag my friends with me to try them out as well! It’s fun to keep up with peoples lives and you always give me great motivation to get moving and cook healthy meals. My fitness struggles change a lot! I go through really motivating periods and then the total opposite (currently in a not motivated slump). I came off of a broken foot which healed in the Fall and its been a struggle to get back into a routine. Hot yoga was my outlet for close to two years and my broken foot brought me back to square one which made the thought of going to classes very frustrating! My goal now is to lose the extra weight and get back into the gym where I focus on a balance of cardio and weights!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks, Kelsey 🙂
I agree and follow the lives of others to get inspired as well! Having an injury is so hard and it can be very discouraging. I really really want to get into hot yoga. One of my friends does it and loves it. I’m excited to get back into the gym more than running as well!
Rachel says
What keeps bringing me back? I’ve been reading for a couple years and I enjoy the glimpse of the day-to-day! Reading posts of other workouts/runs helps ME get out and run so that I stay motivated. I finally feel like I’m getting stronger and my pace is getting faster the more consistent I am. I love that you’re posting about YOUR half marathon training. I am trying to lose weight, but I’m also running so I’m excited to see your post about running/weight gain. With that being said, the struggles is staying motivated and the fact that I’m still at a starting point. Enjoy your trip in Florida!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love posting my eats and workouts too! It actually inspires me to also get out there, so I’m happy it’s working for you as well! It’s great that you are getting stronger. I’ve learned to STOP refocussing on pace and just enjoy the run! Endurance is what I like to focus on. I was losing weight when I was running 3-4 miles twice a week + strength training. Now it’s the opposite, but it’s ok! I’m getting stronger and that is all that matters. Keep pushing forward! You got this.
Cait says
Where did you get those running pants you wore at the 5k? CONGRATS by the way.

Girl question here! Does anyone else struggle with rubbing from their sports bra?! In my longer runs (training for a half ironman) I’ve been having the hardest time dealing with burns from them. I too have dealt with weight gain, but have to remember your body is preparing to conquer a task not fit into a dress 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes, you are right and that’s a great way to look at it.
I haven’t had to deal with that at all (but I also have ZERO boobs), so maybe someone else can hop in! I know I can’t wear shorts at all because of the rubbing. Have you tried adding any chafing cream to the skin it’s rubbing?
Whitney says
7 months is a long time to train for a half. I have run 9 halfs and 2 full marathons, and I didn’t even train that long for the full marathons. Your body is probably under a lot of stress because you have been overdoing it.
Taralynn McNitt says
I actually disagree. It seems like you have done 9 half and 2 full marathons and I’ve done zero, so I can’t run the way you do. I’m not as experienced and I need a little extra time to build my endurance gradually and build my stamina. 7 months is perfect for training. I did a lot of little runs in those months, they were’nt all long runs until the past couple of months. I do agree about my body being stressed, but that is because my milage has increased the past months. It’ll eventually get to relax in May 🙂
Kayla says
I don’t comment on here often but I just wanted to check in and let you know how much I enjoy reading your blog 🙂 I love working out but struggle with balancing my life as a physician with daily work outs. It can be tough to have the energy to do it all! I often read your blog for motivation to work out after a long shift. It is also good to know that someone else had struggled with weight gain while working out. I work out with a trainer 5 days a week and run often. In the last month I’ve gained about 8 lbs and I don’t think it’s just from muscle. Sometimes our bodies do strange things but it can be frustrating when you are working so hard! Stress on our bodies can be a funny thing too and can affect you in so many ways. Also, as a side note I know you will do great during the half marathon! Your mind set is so different when you are running for a race as opposed to doing it on your own. Plus that tiny bit of anxiety that you get before a race gives you extra energy to push yourself.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Kayla!
That means a lot to me and thank you for taking the time to comment!
Seems like you have a great workout routine and working with trainers are great! I think you are so right and it is all a mind thing!!! If it’s about anxiety, I’ll win the whole damn thing because I’m the most anxious person sometimes! lol
Thanks for taking the time to comment and I think it’s great you are a physician! Just a wonderful and rewarding job!

Seriously your blog is my favorite! Everything from your workouts to your decorating style is inspirational as well as relatable. I like to think that if your readers get to meet you, they could mention what comments they have left and you would remember because you’re so kind to everyone! I hope you continue to share your life because people really do benefit from it. My dogs would even like to thank you for the empty peanut butter jar idea too. Haha
I’m not a runner but I do love bath soaks for achy muscles. If you mix Epsom salt and baking soda in a hot bath it can do wonders. Good luck as you continue training 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Amber! 🙂 Your words mean a lot! Put an instant smile on my face and I know I would be NOWHERE around my dreams if it werent for my readers.

I too am a runner (7 halfs, 1 full) always currently training…. my struggle is just weight… Im just cant seem to lose although my diet is not as clean as yours… I am working on it everyday so I love coming to look at your meals!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Brittney! Congrats on all of your accomplishments! You are a rockstar. I think we all feel like we have to “look fit to be fit” and it can mess with us! I am working hard to think past this! Glad my meals serve some purpose other than being tasty!

I love the recap posts! I recently took up running and am training for my 10K so i love all your posts about running tips! Would love to know more about what you eat before and after a run! Do you ever take a full day off and just do yoga or something? I am at the stage where I am running more and gaining weight that is muscle but its hard to tell my mind that its muscle! I love how honest you are, it’s like catching up with a friend!! THANK YOU
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Katelyn! You will do great at your race!! I am stil experimenting with what works! So far cherrios and almond milk or english muffin and peanut butter works the best!!!
I do stretches and walking on my days off and a lot of strength training.

I have a half marathon to run on Saturday and I’ve spent the past 6 weeks recovering from a stress fracture in my tibia. I literally have not run at all since Valentine’s Day and I’m a little nervous to have to run 13 miles in just 4 days with almost no training. I’ve been doing a lot of cross-training on the bike just to get my cardiovascular fitness up, but I know the only way to prepare for such a long run is to have my feet hitting the pavement to build up knee strength. Right now I’m planning on run-walking the half (run 10 minutes, walk 1). No sense in getting injured! As for why I keep coming back to your posts, I love how inspirational they are. Your original posts were what really motivated me to start living a healthier lifestyle. Your recipe blogs also motivated me to get creative in the kitchen. Over the past few years though, I’ve loved seeing your transition into more of a lifestyle blogger. You cover so many topics now and are such an inspiration in so many areas of my life 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Oh, no!! You are a rock star for still going out and doing it. Just take it slow! You are doing it the smart way!
I think becoming a lifestyle blogger has been the best transition. It fits me more!

Awesome job with the run. 🙂 I’d love to hear how you got started with running and if you followed a guide when first getting started? I’m pretty active with the gym + intervals/weights and whatnot, but I cannot for the life of me run for longer than 2-3 minutes. Anytime I have a cardio day, I’m able to kill it on the elliptical (30-45 minutes) but die on the treadmill or outside. Any tips?

awesome job running this week! I’m glad you’re feeling better about running. I recall last summer you had shoulder or arm issues and your dr mentioned holding your phone while you were running. I think you mentioned something about shoulder pain during your bad run. I was thinking about the phone thing again. then I noticed during your 5K you were carrying your phone. I don’t know, just thought it may help you if you were back to carrying your phone.
1. I love your recaps! i come back to check them out because they are so positive and you’re such a naturally kind person. your posts always make me feel more positive and your food always look delicious. haha.
2. ugh, I’m struggling hard core right now. i haven’t worked out in far too long and my back is sore because of it. i need to get my butt moving!

I’m a regular reader (have been for years!) and I love your recaps. You are incredibly open, honest, and easy to relate to which makes reading your blog so much fun. Your commitment to being a better you is inspiring and you have helped me face tough issues in my life. Thank you!
Eesh – fitness struggle are so real. I was super active and fit when I was in high school and then let it go for a few years. Despite being more active and consistently working out/eating better, I often don’t see much of a physical difference which can sometimes be discouraging. But I try to remember that I’m doing it to have fun and be healthier – even if it doesn’t show on the scale (or my skinny jeans 😛 )
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Sarah!
Thank you for following me all of these years.
I’m touched to know that I’ve made a difference, and believe me, my readers change me for the better every day!
You honestly have the right attitude and I need to remember that sometimes too!
Crystal says
Hi Taralynn,
1- I keep coming back because I find you so relatable! I also find you inspiring. I enjoy the approach you take in life and have no problem learning from you. I’ve come a long way in these past couple of years and I really appreciate you for it.
2- My fitness struggles are my lack of consistency. I know what I want, I just totally need to work on carving time to make it happen. It kills me that I don’t have a weekly mileage still, but I’m trying this new thing where if I don’t have time to run, I’m pushing myself to take a long walk. That way I carve out some time daily and build a habit. It’s a great outing as a family with our little 1 year old!
Love following your journey on snap, insta, and here. Keep doing you! ??
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Crystal!
Thank you 🙂 I love how relatable my readers are too! I feel so lucky that everyone is so open with me.
I actually prefer long walks over running. When I’m done with his half I will go back to LONG walks and little runs. I’m sure your 1 year old keeps you plenty busy!!!
Harriet says
Hi Taralynn congratulations on you 5k!! and your Florida trip looks amazing.
1. I have been reading your blogs/recap posts since you first started on tumblr, I love your posts because you are real about everything that can happen, the struggles, up and downs within fitness and being healthy. It gives me motivation to keep going with my own fitness and to lead a healthy lifestyle no matter if i have a bad run or an off day.
2. I find my Endo is my biggest struggle, mid run or walk and getting a stabbing pain can knock the wind out of me, and not knowing when its going to strike is the hardest thing. I have always struggled with my weight but i am getting it down!! and thats all that matters to me.
thanks for a great recap, have a great week!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Harriet!
Thank you so much for following for so long! That means a lot. I love your comments and seeing what you are up to! You are always doing something fun and adventurous. I know exactly what you mean. What works for me is eating a lot of (non-dairy) protein and drinking water before workouts.
Amber says
I love your recap posts because they are easy to read and so relatable. Also, your photography is stunning! 🙂

I have the same struggle with running- I wanted to complete my first half, but thought there would be a weight-loss (or tone, or SOMETHING) bonus to running 20 miles per week. Not the case at all! It’s frustrating, but maybe our bodies are trying to tell us this is what we have to be if we’re going to push them that hard 🙂
Activewear question for you- what shorts do you wear when you run? I live in Alabama and the dreaded heat has begun. It’s too hot for my beloved running compression capris now. I have lots of nike shorts, but they always ride up any time I’ve run in them. So I guess any recommendations for compression shorts for underneath?
Love reading along and will be cheering you on in your last stages of training!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Kindall!
I think you nailed it with that. Our bodies are smarter than we think!
I DO NOT run in shorts lol. PANTS ONLY.
Nike has a lot of shorts with spandex built in though.

I love your recaps because you are such an inspiration for healthy living! Several years ago, you motivated me to make a change in my lifestyle and lose a lot of weight to be healthier. I have dealt with (and sometimes even still do) some of the same things you have (ED) and it’s nice to be able to relate to you and to see how you handled that, and how you work at living a balanced, healthy life. Not a lot of people understand that. So, it’s nice to read when you talk about your struggles and know that I’m not the only one. I also love just reading about your day to day and seeing all of the interesting places you go. I think it’s just fun to see how people live their lives. I really love all your food! It gives me so much inspiration for my meals. And, I love reading about your runs, your training, and workouts!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hey, Tara!!
You are ALSO a healthy inspiration and running inspiration to me!
Crazy how a world of complete strangers can relate so much. We are all the same in some way. I also think it’s fun to see how others live their lives so I totally get that. Your meals have recently inspired me on snap chat! Keep em coming!

Lucy says
Hi Tara!
I keep coming back because of two things. 1) your life looks very put together and that inspires me! I love eating healthy, trying new recipes, and working out. Your blog refreshes my brain when I’m feeling burned out and reminds me that I should keep going and not throw in the towel. I’m a very black and white kind of person, so I often have spurts of either eating really healthy + working out OR spurts of eating everything in sight + ubering to places 2 blocks away. “Balance” isn’t really in my vocabulary but your blog helps me stay away from the latter 🙂 2) your life also looks very realistic and its comforting to know that someone who seems so put together also will let herself have a piece of cake sometimes.
Some of my fitness struggles are, like I said, getting burned out. I get tired of my playlists and tired of the same running trails (I’m currently studying abroad in Brazil and am limited on trails to run long distance. You can be running in one part of town, turn the corner, and be in the middle of a slum. Scary!). I get tired of eating the same healthy foods and loooooove midnight snacks.
Any tips on workout burn out/refusing late-night eating?
You rock, thanks for sharing your life with us.
Xoxo,

It’s definitely NOT put together, but I try lol
It seems like you exactly what works and doesn’t work for you! But balance and intuitive eating is KEY.
So many people fall in the same boat as you and I too get bored! That is why I love having a workout buddy.
Just give yourself a cutoff time. I find that works best for me. I always cut off at 6:30 and set aside a snack before bed like yogurt or eggs.

The smile on your moms face makes me smile so much. The reason being is because I’ve currently just lost the love I had for fitness. I’m on a quest to find out what kind of fitness makes me happy whether it be running, weight lifting, HIITT, who knows, but I am searching for the joy your mom had as she finished that race. That’s what I want to feel again.
Loved the post!
Taralynn McNitt says
She was a ball of smiles!!!!
You can totally feel like that. Come up with a plan and go for it!!!

I keep coming back for recap posts because I think like seeing what other people are up to haha. I’ve also been reading since your tumblr page, so it seems odd for me not to check your blog.
I face mainly motivation struggles to just get out there do it!
Taralynn McNitt says
I do the same 🙂 & thank you for reading!!
I feel ya girl!
MauricE says
How long did it take you to start running?
Taralynn McNitt says
A long time! I wrote all about it here!

I guess there are a few reasons I keep reading your blog! I also live in Charlotte in Steele Creek area. It’s cool to see where you go out to eat and I like trying new places after reading your experiences! I love working out too and try some of your workouts. I ran the Novant half marathon a few years ago and can relate to what you’re experiencing too. I loved clearing my head on my long runs and felt so incredible when I finished, but definitely gained weight too! Oh and I like reading about your recipes too – who would have thought to put avocados in brownies?! ?
Taralynn McNitt says
Congrats on your half! & it’s crazy to think our bodies go through that change!
I love the SC area! I always shop over there.
& I need to start doing more recipes like that!!

Hi Taralynn!
I’ve been reading your blog since you had the tumblr blog. Overall, what keeps me coming back is just my curiosity on how you’re doing. It is also motivation for me because I see how active you are so it gets me motivated to get off the sofa 🙂
I think my main struggle with fitness isn’t the exercise bit, because I do that pretty regularly, but rather, not eating well. I will eat healthy for a week and then will completely lose control on a random day. I get so annoyed with myself, because I know I have the self control to do it, but it’s like a switch goes off one random moment and I just eat all the chocolate on the planet.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Ana!
I can’t believe it’s been that long! lol
I know how that is! I used to be like that with peanut butter, but intuitive eating has changed my life!

Hi Taralynn!
I have read your blog off an on for a few years now, but I started becoming a regular reader this past fall. Now reading your blog has become one of my favorite morning rituals with my coffee. 🙂 I like reading your blog because you are so real and relatable and you’re definitely the type of person I would be friends with! You have a very positive outlook on life, and sometimes that’s what I need to give me an extra push. You’re just an inspiration!
I am crazy about health and wellness, it’s what I’m going to school for. So it’s really hard sometimes because I know people have certain expectations of me and I feel like I always have to be perfect, even though that’s not the case at all. Sometimes I really struggle with that and then I’ll get down on myself and it effects my workouts. Sometimes it’s just really hard to have body positivity in a society that doesn’t support it.
Hope you have a great week! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I love that you read my blogs with coffee. I wouldn’t want it any other way! I really try to be positive about everything because life is just too short!
I couldn’t imagine the pressure when you are going to school for health and fitness. I’ve always thought about that. I have pressure as a blogger, but nothing like what you must have to go through. Never get down on yourself though! You are beautiful and enough. Healthy isn’t about whats on the outside, and I’ve learned that the hard way!

Hey Taralynn! I LOVE reading your blog!! I’m just starting out so my blog is fairly small buttt I love using your fitness plans. I used to be super in shape and played sports and then after high school I dropped all concerns of eating healthy/ exercising regularly. I am trying to get back into it and boy it’s hard! Thank you for writing your blog!! You are what has helped me see that I CAN get back in shape and eat healthy!! Thank you!
Initially Yours, MK
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks for writing that Madison 🙂 It just made my night. I think we all drop the healhty habbits now and then! It’s hard to get back on track, but not impossible!

Hi!
“It’s one of those situations where you think you look like a superhero when you’re running, but in reality, you look like a little puppy playing fetch.”
This is the true description of my runs ^^
I’ve always been curious. If you are a regular recap post reader, what brings you back?
I like how you share your days with us. You’re always very positive, and you don’t hide when you are in doubt. Plus, I love what you cook and I find the dogs so cute 😀
What struggles do you face with fitness?
It’s hard to incorporate workouts in my daily routine. My job allows me two mornings a week to do some exercise, but I always feel like it’s not enough. And I’m also afraid of falling in too much : exercise, food control… I need to work on letting go.
Keep being yourself, you’re a wonderful person!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha I always feel like that!
I’m glad you like the pups!!! I couldnt blog without them.
Have you read anything on intuitive eating? That may help with feeling of control.

I’ve been reading your blogs for years because when I’m trying to find a healthy, balanced, happy life it’s fantastic to read someone’s doing the same. You don’t post bs, you’re very real even with your struggles that are extremely relatable. You’re an inspiration in how to try to find balance and happiness while achieving your goals. So for that we all thank you.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Tara!!
Lana says
Do you get shin splints? I can’t run because of them.
Taralynn McNitt says
I used to back in high school when I was playing basketball. Try running on a softer surface and getting fitted for proper running shoes. Ice, Stretch and massages!!
Anna says
Is PBFINGERS nice? Saw she was in FL too.

Taralynn McNitt says
I’ll be posting my half marathon training playlist soon.
Beth says
Should I get fitted for running shoes? I’ve never ran before.
Taralynn McNitt says
Definitely a good idea. Start slow and ease your way into running.
Camilla says
Do you like asics?
Taralynn McNitt says
YES!
Mallory @ Boston Runner Girl says
I struggle with doing anything other than running. Haha. It’s like pulling teeth to get me to lift a weight. I think (no…I know) I’d be a stronger runner if I spent once a week lifting!
I keep going back to blogs when I become invested in their narrative. I don’t like blogs that just post recipes or evergreen content. I like knowing the person behind the blog, and enjoy reading a glimpse into their everyday lives. That’s how you hooked me!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thats really good to know. I always feel like I don’t have enough evergreen content, but I loved your perspective, plus I really LOVE to blog my recaps!!
Valerie says
I have been reading your blog for years ( like since before it was SimplyTaralynn and it was on Tumblr lol) and the recap posts are my favorite because it shows how you live your regular daily life and inspires me to make positive changes in my own life because I get to see those lifestyle changes in action through what you post rather than just reading an entire post about one thing. That was a long run on sentence…but hopefully it makes sense! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Valerie!
Thank you for reading!
I love writing the recap posts, so I’m happy you enjoy them!

Hi Tara!
I love reading about your week every time you post a recap blog! I’m also a runner with runner’s knee. This past few weeks were the worst because the pain is coming back every time I go out for a run. I was planning to run my first 10K this summer but I feel like I won’t be able to reach my goal… Do you have any tips for runner’s knee ? Thank you so much, you are an inspiration! xx
