I go in and out of blueberry phases. I crave them in everything during the summer. I like to throw them into my pancakes, muffins, smoothies and salads. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, Fiber and Vitamin C. I’d definitely classify them under super foods. They are huge at the farmer’s market in the summer and sometimes you can find them bigger than quarters. Don’t even get me started with the size of blackberries…
There was a coffee shop about a half a mile from my high school. I used to walk there after school a couple times a week with my best friend for an afternoon pick-me-up. I started the coffee drinking at a very young age and it’s never gone away. I only get (coffee) snobbier and more addicted as time passes. I usually turn every single one of my friends into coffee snobs as well. Once you have a good cup of coffee, preferably medium-dark roast, there is no going back. During one of these after school coffee adventures, the shop had a latte of the week called “blueberry muffin.” I decided to give it a try since I loved blueberries so much. I’ll never forget that first sip. It was as if I was drinking a blueberry muffin! I fell in love with it. The only problem was that this latte had artificial blueberry syrup, whole milk and espresso. Back then, I didn’t care too much about the heavy foods or artificial junk, but now I pay attention to them more.
That blueberry muffin latte ran across my mind the other day and it gave me the idea to create a healthier version at home using fresh blueberries, almond milk and espresso. It was super easy to make and very tasty! I enjoy the natural and whole ingredients much better than the artificial syrup.
All you need…
*2 Shots of Espresso
*1/4 Cup Fresh Blueberries
*1 Tablespoon of Water
*1 Cup Unsweetend Vanilla Almond Milk (you can use any kind of milk you’d like)
-You can replace the blueberries with almost any fruit. Stevia, almond extract and vanilla bean are also great additives.
I used my Nespresso to make the espresso. If you do not have an espresso machine, try making SUPER strong coffee as a substitute.
Add blueberries to a microwave safe mug with the tablespoon of water. Microwave for 20-30 seconds.
Mash the juices out of the blueberries.
Use a fork to strain the skin of the blueberries out of the juice.
Add the espresso to the blueberry juice.
I used a milk frother to heat the milk. You can heat over the stove or in the microwave.
Combine all the ingredients and add any additional flavors. Stir well.
Pour all the ingredients into a cup and enjoy! This blueberry latte can also be made over ice. Skip heating up the milk and then pour all the ingredients into a cup with ice cubes.
This drink is vegan, vegetarian, paleo, gluten free, dairy free and low calorie!
I hope you enjoy this quick and easy coffee drink!

This sounds delicious!! You’re so talented when it comes to making healthier versions of food you’ve tried. I am so thankful for your blog!
I love green tea matcha lattes and caramel lattes; I would have never imagined a blueberry latte but this is a must try now!
I LOVE blueberries as well. Our blueberries right now (Colorado) are a little small and sour still but they were perfect in the berry crisp I made this Mother’s Day! I miss living in the south were the fruit was huge and delicious late spring!
I love coconut anything right now, doesn’t a coconut brûlée latte sound interesting?
Keep being awesome, Taralynn

Thank you Mallori!
After going through my blog, I’ve realized that I haven’t been posting many recipes like I used to! And I LOVE doing them, so I’m going to try to keep posting healthier recipes 🙂
Caramel lattes are so yummy!
Small & sour are so good!!! I do love the luscious ones down here too. Those are super sweet.
Oh yum! I could maybe bring out the brûlée torch for the top.
xo xo
thanks for commenting Mal!

This recipe couldn’t have come at a better time! I just bought two tins of blueberries because they were on sale.
Taralynn McNitt says
NO kidding! I have tons of other blueberry recipes if you need any suggestions 🙂 xo
Lauren says
Yes! I already bookmarked some of your blueberry recipes a while ago. 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Well thank you 🙂
Jaime says
This sounds delish! I don’t have a milk frother but I learned a great trick where after heating up the milk, pour it in a mason jar and shake it up..it ends up getting nice and frothy 🙂
1. My favorite latte is usually vanilla but I also love hazelnut!
2. I LOVE blueberries. I recently got blueberry honey from a local farm. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m going to use it to sweeten my yogurt as well as to sweeten a batch of greek yogurt/oat blueberry muffins.
3. Hazelnut would be yummy. I used to be addicted to the artificial hazelnut creamer.
Taralynn McNitt says
Oh yum! The blender works wonders too and I forgot to mention that!
1. Vanilla is delicious and you can easily make that healthy!
2. I’ve had blueberry honey and it’s so good! Perfect in yogurt.
3. Me too….
Hilary says
This sounds delicious I can’t wait to try it out I love coming up with new espresso drinks !
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s so much fun! I usually do it in the fall with more pumpkin and seasonal flavors, but I think some summery drinks with fruits can be fun!
Emily Weir says
This looks delicious! I never think to get creative with my lattes.
I had a horchata latte at a coffee shop in Savannah last summer that was one of the best I’d ever had. I wish I could figure out how to recreate that one.
And I am a HUGE fan of blueberries. I also put them on everything and only like to eat cereal when I know I’ve got blueberries to put on top.
Taralynn McNitt says
Me either! 🙂 I just had a little boost of inspiration to make me do it!
A Horchata latte would be so good. I bet i could do my healthy horchatta recipe + espresso over ice!
Blueberries are so good in cheerios!
Maria says
Emily — I have a close friend living in Savannah. Told her about the horchata latte. Any chance you recall at which coffee shop you got that latte? I’d love to tell her! Anyone else who knows of a good horchta joint (haha first I’d heard of one til now!!) in Savannah, lemme kno!
Melissa says
Yum!! I have blueberry coffee k-cups that I absolutely love, but this looks like a much better way. I’m trying to eat a more whole-foods based diet, so this looks right up my alley.
Xo,

I used to love the blueberry K-cups. I think you would love this recipe 🙂 I try to eat more whole foods as well. It’s hard, but as long as you try to make the effort! 🙂
Misty says
My favorite latte flavor is pumpkin spice in the fall. I use pumpkin spice stevia flavor to keep the sugar down. I used to love irish cream lattes but couldn’t find a healthy substitute. Blueberries are my go to fruit in my smoothies! Yum! I have never tried fruit in my latte so I definitely will be trying this recipe! I too am a coffee addict lol!
Taralynn McNitt says
I crave pumpkin spice all year round. I am thinking about making a batch of pumpkin spice muffins soon…
I am also a coffee addict and I think you will love this recipe!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass says
Yum! I bet this would be delicious with some chocolate as well. Maybe some cocoa powder? Or as a dusting on top? And as a smoothie if you blended it up with the ice!
1. I’m simple. Peppermint latte & pumpkin spice latte. Mostly because it’s easy to find at home versions I can make myself. And PSLs taste like sweet, sweet fall in a cup. 🙂
2. Love blueberries. I’ll make a fresh simple blueberry syrup for waffles with just blueberries, water & some sugar on the stove until the blueberries burst.
3. Latte you should create next? Hmm. I think Starbucks has a milk & honey latte or something similar? That would be delicious. Or what about one reminiscent of the flavors of almond biscotti? That would be a great treat for the weekend when there is time to relax & sip slowly.
Taralynn McNitt says
OH yes! & white chocolate!
1. Those are the best and I crave them all year round!
2. Oh yum!!! Now i’m hungry!
3. Those both sound like delicious lattes!!
Emily B says
Oh. My. Goodness.
I am SO going try this with blackberries. When I was in DC last summer, my husband and I went to Ebeneezer’s Coffeehouse by Union Station and they had a blackberry vanilla latte that was SUPER amazing. This recipe would work great for that I think! Thanks for the inspiration.
The blackberry vanilla latte has been one of my absolute favorites. But at a coffee shop called 20 Below in Fargo ND they have a Maple Cinnamon latte that is hands down the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had in my life. It is natural, premium ingredients and coffee and it never ever disappoints!
I like blueberries in things more than I do own their own. I am more into strawberries or blackberries 🙂
You should try a maple cinnamon latte!
Great. Now I want coffee!
Taralynn McNitt says
YES. First off, I’m going to D.C. soon and I’m going to try that!! A new coffee shop? Count me in!
You sound like my coffee spirit animal.
A maple cinnamon latte would be great! Maybe even with some walnuts!
xo & you just made me want coffee more than ever!
Kelly says
Ebenezer’s by Union Station is alright, but you should check out Maketto’s on H (super trendy and awesome coffeeshop/restaurant) – they give you coffee on a bamboo platter with a shot of seltzer on the side as a palate cleanser. Also, if in NE DC anyways you should check out Union Market! Its an amazing indoor market. Mostly food but also cool jewelry and home goods vendors! Plus the best ice cream in the world (no artificial flavors, colors, etc).
Misha says
Hey girl! I love how creative this is and I’m definitely going to give it a try…did you feel like you needed any sweetener? Or the blueberries themselves were enough? ALSO I’ve been curious for so long what photo editing tools you use on your pictures for both color enhancement and text overlay…would loveee to know! I have a food account and I’m pretty good with photoshop but I always come back to your blog staring at your pics like wtf!! she’s so good!! haha. xoxox
Taralynn McNitt says
I don’t put sweetener in my coffee, so I don’t like it super sweet, but some people like stevia or something to sweeten it up! I would just take a sip and see if it needs any! 🙂 I just use Picmonkey! real simple:) You can use fun filters to make the photos pop!
Alexa says
This sounds SO GOOD and I cannot wait to run out and get blueberries to make this (I’ll mix it with some cold brew coffee).
1. I usually am boring with lattes but a local dessert bar had a Cereal Milk Latte and I got Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor. Oh my goodness, it was the greatest thing EVER.
2. I adore blueberries. They are one of my favorite fruits.
3. I encourage more fruit flavored lattes! Very unique and not something you find when out and about.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds like a delicious substitute! You could also make your ice cubes out of the cold brew!
1. What?! That sounds like a genius flavor!
2. They’re definitely in my top too!
3. Thank you & I’ll keep that in mind!
Peggy says
Hi Taralynn….how do you like your Nespresso coffee maker? I like a great cappuchino and am considering getting one….

Taralynn!! I LOVE this post! It is so reminiscent of your posts from years ago when I first began following you! It was like time travel! 😉 I’ve been on a smoothie kick lately and have been using tons of your old (and new!) recipes. This looks delicious though and I cannot wait to try it! I have fresh blueberries from the farmer’s market here in Nashville at home and I may try this as a post dinner dessert!

I always keep the unsweetened almond milk in my fridge! It’s great.
Let me know what you think of it over ice!

No way! I will have to try this! I wonder if a little sprinkle of cocoa on top would be god or not 😉
I’m not usually big on Starbucks flavoured lattes, they are so sweet. But I really enjoyed their Chestnut Praline this winter!
I love Blueberries! I’m so happy it’s berry season here again lol
Hmmm honey peach… it could either be great or an awful idea I’m not sure
Taralynn McNitt says
I bet it would be!
I havent had the chestnut praline but it sounds great!
Honey peach actually sounds amazing! I may try that!
Jen says
This sounds amazing!! I usually make a cinnamon latte. I have a Nespresso, so I’m definitely going to try this! The blueberry latte sounds so good!! ?☕️ I usually throw blueberries in my smoothie. They add so much flavor and nutrition. I would also love to try this recipe with raspberries. Thanks! Keep those healthy recipes coming!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Jen!
What do you do for your cinnamon latte? & aren’t the Nespresso’s amazing?!
I bet this recipe would be great with raspberries! xo
Jen says
Hi Taralynn, for the Cinnamon Latte: I use any of the Nespresso capsules, (I have a variety so it’s never the same twice) LOL. Then I whip up 1% milk (I actually don’t drink milk otherwise so it’s the one time to sneak extra calcium in my diet) and then sprinkle cinnamon in with the whipped milk foam and stir. Easy peasy. 🙂 I would love to get my hands on a natural version of the Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce latte style syrup.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Yum I’ve been having blueberries a lot the past couple of weeks as the weather has warmed up. I’ve never had it with coffee though–looks so good!
I’ve also been loving coconut milk and honey with cold brew lately!
Taralynn McNitt says
YUM! I bet coconut milk would have been really good with this recipe, especially cold!
Carly says
This latte sounds delicious! I may have just added blueberries to my grocery list so I can make it later 😉
The best latte I’ve ever had was a coconut latte in Mexico while on my honeymoon. The the only place in the resort where you could get it was a specific coffee shop. By the end of the week they knew me as the early bird who love the coconut latte with coconut milk!
I LOVE blueberries! Once they are in season I add them to everything… muffins, pancakes, oatmeal, and now soon to be lattes!
Because I love coconut, and it seems so fitting for summer I’d have to say coconut! Or I bet blackberry would be delicious as well!
Taralynn McNitt says
Let me know what you think!
Coconut lattes are so good. I get a vegan one at Lunas Living kitchen 🙂
Blueberries are the best! I want to make a blueberry/egg/banana/protein powder pancake for dinner tonight!
Blackberry seems to be the favorite!
Erin says
One of my friends will love this recipe! Thank you for sharing Taralynn.
Taralynn McNitt says
I hope she loves it! xo

I am not that big of a latte-lover (or a sweet drink lover), since I usually drink my coffee black and boring, but the best flavor I’ve tried so far is probably the pistachio and rose mocha from Starbucks. So maybe that could be interesting for you to recreate? 🙂
And blueberries…love ’em. I pick my own during the summer and fill half of my freezer with them for winter smoothies!
Taralynn McNitt says
A pistachio and rose mocha?! That is a thing? I’d love to try that!
Amanda @ Positively Amanda says

What is your favorite way to roast your coffee beans? We have tried a few different methods, but I’m curious as to what you like best.
Taralynn McNitt says
My Nespresso and my old fashion drip coffee pot!
Jen says
Not brew, roast. Since you are a coffee enthusiastic I thought you might roast your own beans before grinding and brewing. Step up that coffee game girl…you are missing out!
Taralynn McNitt says
Aint nobody got time for that 😉
I love trying different roasts from the experts!
Jen says
Sure you do. Coffee snobs have time for it ?
Lauren @ Jesus and a Side of PB says
This. is a recipe I want to make! I love how easy and versatile it is. I worked in a coffee shop last summer and one of our favorite pastimes during slow days was perusing the book of different coffee drinks! It’s so interesting to see what people come up with.
Taralynn McNitt says
YES! I worked at a coffee shop when I was 14-16 and coming up with coffee drinks was one of our favorite things to do. Our boss let us feature our favorite every week!

I love almond milk plain, in cereal, etc. but I just haven’t been able to get used to drinking it in my coffee yet! Is there a secret? Are there certain flavors (vanilla, origina, unsweetened, etc.) that work better in coffee? I’d love to know!
Taralynn McNitt says
I think its an acquired taste. I REALLY like it cold, and it took a bit to like it warmed up. I use unsweeteneed vanilla.
