Hello, it’s me. I’m the blogger that hasn’t blogged in days…and I’m back! I’m excited to do an update post becuase it feels like it’s been forever and I hate feeling disconnected from you guys. This is going to be a LONG recap post so you can see what I’ve been up to and I’m excited to hear all about your weeks.
I’ve been pretty busy, but the good kind of busy. I’ve been doing a lot of DIY projects lately. This post will be full of restaurant photos, BUT most of the photos were taken BEFORE I did my budget post and I’ve been sticking to it pretty well. I’ve slipped up a couple of times, but I can’t cut everything off cold turkey, so bare with me.
A couple Fridays ago (yes, it’s’ been that long since I’ve done an update post) I had a early snack to hold me over until sushi night. I had a berry smoothie from Earthfare with whey protein and a blueberry pecan KIND bar. I’m obsessed with those. They are my favorite go-to and I love that pretty much all gas stations have them.
So sushi night never even happened. I was bummed, but sometimes plans fall through. That’s life! I went home and had a piece of grilled chicken and sticky rice. I was kind of happy sushi night never happened because I was exhausted. I fell right asleep.
That Saturday morning, I finally got to try out Berrybrook Farm Natural Foods. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to actually stop in. I drive by this place almost everyday. It’s a cute little local shop with organic foods, natural foods, and unique products. They have a lot of local specialty foods in there as well. If you live in the Charlotte area, I highly recommend stopping in there. They were so friendly too. I was shocked with how big their menu was.
They had soups, juices, smoothies, sandwiches, and tons of vegan options. My smoothie tasted like a pina colada. It had pineapple, peach, banana, coconut milk, and protein powder.
My friend ordered the vegan patty melt. It consisted of vegan bread, a veggie burger, vegan cheese, a tomato, and onions. It wasn’t too bad!
Dean & Deluca Christmas latte!
We all headed to Portofinos for a birthday dinner.
I started with their minestrone soup to warm me up. It was a cold and rainy night.
I ordered a grilled chicken salad. I know it seems a bit wrong to order a salad at an Italian restaurant, but I’m trying to keep it on the healthy side.
I was up early on Sunday morning. Tino knows I’m a softy so he chooses me as his victim. He’ll lick my face until I wake up to take him out and feed him. After walking the pups, I loaded them up in my car and stopped at the gas station to grab coffee. I also grabbed a Kind Bar 🙂 I love the coconut almond flavor! I knew I’d need something to hold me over until brunch after church. I hate having an empty stomach.
I love being up early before the sun. Quiet Sundays are my favorite.
Our friends Leo and Lyndsey went to church with us and then we headed to 131 Main for brunch. I have heard wonderful things about this place, but this was our first time giving it a try.
My friend ordered their crab cake Benedict with asparagus and loaded mashed potatoes. I always try his meals and their Benedict was delicious. Their loaded mashed potatoes were so flavorful and cheesy.
I ordered their cobb salad. It came with grilled chicken, mixed greens, avocado, bacon, eggs, and a side of garlic vinegreatte. This was the ultimate salad. It had croutons that tasted like toasted cornbread.
After brunch, I headed to my parents house to let Grumps run around the backyard with Tino. My mom made me tea and we relaxed on the swing while the pups ran all over.
I’m obsessed with my Love Your Melon hat. I’m not kidding when I say it’s the warmest hat ever! Every time you purchase a hat, they donate a hat to kids fighting cancer.
I was exhausted Sunday afternoon. I headed home, cuddled up on the couch with Grumps and we watched movies.
Monday morning, I was well rested and ready to start my day!
First, coffee!
I made a breakfast. 1/2 Whole wheat English muffin with butter, bacon, and two eggs over easy.
After catching up on work, I headed to a trail to walk Grumples.
I must have dropped my glove when I was picking up Grumples’s business…
I ran back to grab it…
But Grumples got to it before I could…
He finally let me have it back, but it was a fight!
He’s always exhausted after our walks and it allows me to work in peace when we get back.
I was so hungry when we got back so I made lunch.
A Whole grain flat-out wrap with turkey, pepperjack Laughing Cow cheese spread, lettuce, bell pepper, Applegate turkey, and avocado with a side of fresh fruit.
Later on in the day I snacked on trail mix. It had cranberry, yogurt covered raisins, dark chocolate, cranberry, almonds, and raisins.
I had a really random dinner that night. I added some leftovers over some lettuce and called it a salad! It has a bit of everything…
Tuesday morning, we went back to the trail!
Happy Pup!
My days were starting to get repetitive. I had the same breakfast again…I love grocery shopping on Sunday for meals throughout the week.
I’m obsessed with tortilla or pita pizzas. They’re so filling and kill the cravings while keeping dinner light.
This was a flat-out wrap with cheese, sauce, and turkey pepperonis. The entire pizza is under 250 calories.
Thursday morning, we headed for another four mile walk.
He still managed to find the energy to play with his toys after out walk.
After our walk, I warmed up with a light vanilla latte made by my Nespresso. It had a skim milk, an espresso pod, and a couple drops of vanilla extract.
Tino!
Pulled pork over a salad with Italian dressing. Such a delicious low carb meal.
Dinner at Rippington’s in Waxhaw Friday night with my parents.
My mom and I split a meal since we ordered an appetizer and side salads. The salad came with spring mix lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, feta and a strawberry vinaigrette.
The salmon had a black bean salsa and was served with steamed vegetables and rice.
We all split a carrot cake.
I decided to spend Friday and Saturday with my parents.
My mom and I watched The Visit! She loved it just as much as I did. I love spending time with my parents and watching movies are our favorite thing to do when it’s cold out.
Tino loves toilet paper rolls…
For dinner, I made a salad with avocado, tomato, chicken, romaine, cucumber, hard boiled eggs, and a lemon vinaigrette.
I headed uptown to watch the Panther’s play on Sunday. I grabbed my favorite snack first, a coffee drink and a cranberry almond Kind bar. I figured we’d be a while before dinner and I really didn’t want to eat bar food. I can’t say no to chicken wings and pizza when I’m hungry.
It was such a great game. Go Panthers! The Seahawks definitely stepped up in the second half. Both teams played well. Even though I’m a Lion’s fan, I root for the Panther’s because it’s my city. I love seeing all the Panther pride.
We headed to one of my favorites spots in Charlotte, Bakersfield. You can’t go there without trying their Queso and guacamole. You also have to order one of their margaritas! YUM. We are doing margarita Monday and quesadillas for Bachelor night next week.
I always order their Johnny salad. It’s THAT good…The guys started to make fun of me for getting a salad and I forced them all to try it. It ended up being their favorite dish on the table. It shut them up fast, minus the fifteen minutes dedicated to talking about how unbelievable my salad was. That salad is the king of salads.
I woke up so early one Monday morning.
My mom and I spent Monday together out shopping for new curtains. Home Goods had the best selection.
Around four, I started making some appetizers to get ready for Bachelor night. My girlfriends and I decided to start a new tradition.
I made some buckeyes! I have a delicious recipe for these and the centers taste like peanut butter fudge. I’ll post that tomorrow.
I gave Grumples the empty peanut butter jar to lick. It’s his favorite thing ever! It’s hilarious to watch.
Since I had extra chocolate leftover, I made some chocolate covered strawberries. Plus, they go well with wine!
I filled my tray with trail mix, Triscuits, caramel macadamia nut popcorn, wheat thins, cheese, apricot chips, and fig jelly.
I also made some pizzas.
The night was filled with red and white wine. I had a little bit of both 🙂
The Bachelor is so much more fun when you watch it with friends and it was such a weird episode. I didn’t think I was going to like Jubilee as much as I do. I think her and Ben are adorable. I really like Lauren B and Amanda (the mother of two) as well. I do not like Olivia or Amber! I also gained a lot of respect for Lace after watching her talk about her struggles on the after show.
We were so exhausted on Tuesday morning…Grumples loved being in the middle of all the girls.
My friend Rachel and I went to Barre class on Tuesday afternoon. It was my first time. I’ve heard it was tough, but it really didn’t look tough. Everyone talks about it and it’s super popular right now. I get it now…
It’s one of the hardest workouts I’ve ever done. It doesn’t matter if you can run six miles, it’ll make you feel so out of shape. You’ll use muscles you normally don’t, you’ll find out how inflexible you are, and be inspired to work towards a new you!
The instructors were super nice and motivating. I loved it because it was relaxing and challenging. It wasn’t hardcore cardio, but intense strength! It was very organized and I loved how the movements blended. The smaller movements make the biggest impacts. I can’t wait to do this again.
After class, we headed to I Love Juicebar for lunch.
I ordered the Doc with protein powder. The Doc has spinach, kale, juiced apple, ginger, mint, strawberries, blueberries, mixed berries, banana, spirulina, and probiotics.
It was deeeeeeeelicious!
We also got coffee to warm us up.
The Juicebar also makes superfood protein bars. They don’t look very good, but I promise you that they are. I like to keep them in my fridge for quick bites. All you need is a small little pieces to hit the spot. This one had raw oats, flax seed, chia seed, bee pollen, maca, natural peanut butter, vegan protein powder, goji berries, and spirulina. I like to have a little piece with my coffee in the morning.
I made salmon, rice, vegetable egg rolls, and my sweet flaxseed green beans last night. (I’ll post that recipe tomorrow as well)
I was so sore this morning from Barre. I could barely move and it actually hurt my abs to pee (TMI I KNOW). I knew I had to do something. I made a breakfast with eggs, bacon, strawberries, and an English muffin and then chugged tons of water to hydrate.
I decided to head to the gym to run and stretch. It may seem silly, but running helps me get over the soreness. It warms up the muscles and brings fresh oxygen to the muscle. I jogged three 11 minute miles. After running, I was warmed up enough to stretch for a good thirty minutes. After taking that barre class, it made me realize how important stretching is. I stretch, but never stretch deep enough to make a difference. My goal is to become very flexible. I bet it’ll improve my running too.
When I got back, it was Grumples’s turn to go for a walk.
After our walk, I made a to-go coffee and packed a bag of popcorn for our mini road trip.
It was snowing on the way back! This is the second snowfall this year and I’m so ready for spring.
The chairs looked so good in my kitchen.
I made some cheese and crackers to snack on while I blogged:) I’m loving that Laughing Cow pepperjack cheese spread!
Saturday, I shot all the new items for the Spring Collection on my shop! I am so ready for Spring 🙂
- Do you do “Spring Cleaning”?
- Have you ever tried a Barre Class? Opinions?
- What is the coolest/creepiest thing you’ve ever found on Craigslist?
Rachel says
1. I am a hardcore cleaner so when spring hits here (I’m in the Atlanta area), I’ll be cleaning really well. My favorite thing to do is vacuum, it makes a world of difference with 3 dogs.
2. I’ve never tried Barre class I wonder if there’s one around me!
3. Coolest thing I’ve found on Craigslist my dog! Haymish is my child. Creepiest yet to be seen as I’m planning on redoing our room so I’m looking for new furniture!
Also that protein bar stuff you get at the juice bar looks amazing! I should go explore Athens more (closest city near me), and see if they have anything similar!
Taralynn McNitt says
1. Vacuuming is so therapeutic! I’m going to try to cut my closet in half this spring:)
2. It’s so hard, but worth it! I love a challenge. I bet there are tons in the Atlanta area.
3. Awww:) That is a good find! Furniture shopping on craigslist is so much fun. We’ve found some really awesome deals.
Thank you! It was delicious! They have a I Love Juice bar in Suwanee and Johns Creek GA! 🙂 Close to Atlanta. Also, I want to try Kale me Crazy in ATL! Maybe next summer 🙂
Melanie says
I’m so happy you gave Barre a try! It’s super tough, but so worth it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Soooooooo tough! 🙂
Lauren says
How did it go painting before sanding the floors? My husband and I are fixing up a house too and we were thinking that we don’t want to paint and then sand because the sanding makes such a mess and would ruin freshly painted walls. How did it go for you guys?
Taralynn McNitt says
The painting went smoothly. The painters covered all the floors and everything was dry before the sanding took place. There are couple spots on the the walls where the stain flew, but that is what touchup paint is for 🙂 I’d definitely do the walls first, you won’t want to spill paint on freshly finished floors.
Mandy says
I love the Kind bars! Have you tried the Kind Breakfast Bars yet? I just found them, they are awesome!
Taralynn McNitt says
No. I just saw them at Target! I might have to try them out.
Sara Renee says
OMG you voted for the Panthers? I am officially heart broken 😉 Haha Seahawks girl right here!
I am pretty much going through all my stuff right now in my closet. I have 11 bags of clothes… I know I know. I’ve been hoarding them since HS! I’ve been out of High School for almost 7 years now. haha!
Not even sure what a Barre class is.
Craigslist isn’t really my thing 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I had too 🙂 I live in the Carolinas! You have a great team though, so you should be proud of them! It’s tough being a Lion’s fan.
No judging, I’m there with ya!I could probably get rid of those bags…
Kaitlyn says
1.I did spring cleaning when I was in college, but I recently got married and my husband and I are trying to learn how to keep the apartment clean in the first place. If I had to do a cleaning overhaul I would probably freak out haha.
2. I’ve never tried a barre class, but my boss has. She loved it! She said it was the hardest workout she’d ever done. I would be interested in trying it, but my flexibility is total crap, so I would probably just embarrass myself! I definitely admire the people who can do it though. I’ll just stick with my yoga videos for now!
3. The weirdest stuff I found on Craigslist was definitely in the “Wedding” section. I went on there to see if anyone was selling the vases I wanted for my wedding. Some of the decorations people were trying to sell were absolutely horrible. We are talking boxes of teal and purple crepe paper. So that was pretty hilarious to see. But then you see the people who are selling their wedding rings and that was just sad. My friends have found some really cool things on Craigslist. One of my friends got an adorable armchair she refurbished to be super cute. She has the best eye for stuff like that.
I have a random question for you. Where do you get your recipes? Is it to the point where you can basically make stuff up now, or do you still research different things to make? I was a Pinterest junkie for a while (and still am) but we were given Julia Child’s The Joy Of Cooking for our wedding, and I love it! For a couple weeks, everything I cooked was from that book. Now I’m on a total cookbook kick!
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol sometimes it’s harder to keep the apartment clean because its so much smaller than a house. I’m sure you’re not the only one who struggle with that.
My flexibility is crab now as well. I used to be so much better. It’s kind of motivating to suck…lol makes me want to get better. I was nervous, but they make it so much fun and the instructors are so sweet.
Hahaha agree. There are some weird things on there. Most of the time, they are stolen wedding rings too 🙁 I love to refurbish stuff from there!
Most of the time, I’m just throwing stuff together and going with the flow. I use base recipes from previous ones I’ve made and sometimes I get inspired from the Food Network and magazines! Pinterest is great too!
Abby says
Hi Taralynn!
I actually worked at a Pure Barre for 3 years. It was the hardest workout I have ever done, but it made me more flexible (I am NOT flexible haha) and it helped my running too! I was running faster and not even knowing it because it’s such good cross training. I was wondering if you had tried a barre class yet! Glad you liked it!
Best,
Abby
Taralynn McNitt says
I’m really hoping it helps my running and prevents injury! I’m excited to get over the “sore” phase lol. I know that comes when you start a new exercise routine!
Jenny says
Oh my gosh, that photo of Tino in the window made me crack up!!! He seems so goofy.
Taralynn McNitt says
He really is the goofiest!!
Kira says
That pizza looks so good! Pizza is my favorite and its been tough not eating it when you don’t feel like cooking. I’m going to have to try it.
The picture of grumples with his toys is absolutely adorable. He looks really cute after being groomed. How old is he now?
Also, where did you get those blue shoes that you are wearing in the tea picture? I LOVE them!! I’ve been following your blog for about two years and I am pretty sure you mentioned where you got those and the blue and white striped ones, but I couldn’t find it.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, it is the perfect pizza fix for when you’re craving it! SO light and easy to throw together.
He is going to be five in July 🙁 I can’t believe how fast time goes!
I got those shoes at Bass & Co! It’s my favorite place to get shoes. They always fit my style.
🙂
Lauren says
I really love your long recap posts. I also love seeing so many pics of your dogs. 😀 You have been so good at keeping up your healthy habits even when you are busy. I have been loosing weight again and you are really an inspiration especially when it comes to moderation. This is what I find the hardest. I can’t wait to see the before and after pictures of your house.
I don’t want to be annoying, but have you noticed that every time you type the word “because” it comes out as “becuase”? I think it’s because of autocorrect?I’ve noticed this in a couple of posts you’ve done.
To answer your questions:
1) I don’t really do spring cleaning, but I really should. Every time I go to my mom’s place though, she has me look through all of my clothes and choose items to donate. I don’t live there anymore, but I have so many clothes that I still have a closet full at my mom’s place.
2) Unfortunately, they don’t have barre classes in Belgium. I hope the trend comes here soon. I really want to try it.
3) They don’t have Craigslist here either, but I think we have some similar sites. I don’t really check them though.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Lauren,
Nice job on the weight loss. I think winter makes it so tough! My friend posted a hilarious photo on Facebook the other day. “January is the worst month. You’re fat and broke from the holidays, paler than ever, and you can’t feel your own face when you walk outside” and it made me laugh! That’s how I feel in January. I can’t be the only one.
It’s the autocorrect that keeps changing it for some reason. Even when I go back and change it, wordpress keeps chaining it back.
Hopefully they’ll open a studio near you soon!
Lauren says
Haha that is funny and so true! I also like the picture of the fat cat saying “You know what I got for Christmas? Fat, I got fat for Christmas”.
Seems like your autocorrect has a life of it’s own! 😀
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahahaha I’ve seen that!
Lindsey says
Your place looks super nice! The chairs were a nice find.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thnk you!
Mechela says
I love cleaning. Theraputic for me. I do a massive purge each new year of stuff we dont need or haven’t touched in over a year. Then deep clean.
I haven’t done a barre class but one of my favorite stretching guides is Elle Fit active stretch guide. She has a couple of different ones to choose from but I love the Get Bendy one the most.
The creepiest thing I came across on Craigslist were these 2 guys that wanted a roommate. They said rent was free but all you had to do was cook each meal and clean everyday for them. No way. It sounded more like they wanted to keep you prisoner then to have a roommate.
Taralynn McNitt says
That is smart. I like the no-touch in a year method! My friend Becca was telling me she does that with her closet.
I’ll have to try those workouts!
That is really creepy hahahaa! That sounds like theyre looking for wives.
Abbie says
Question, in the picture with your homemade flat out pizza, is that the birds eye steam bags of broccoli noodles and cheese? I saw them at the grocery store sunday and was thinking about trying them but didnt knownif they would be good. (:
Taralynn McNitt says
Yup!! I’m obsessed with those for sides!
Abbie says
Which is your favorite?! (:
Jaime says
1. I do spring cleaning but I also try to do a deep clean at least once a month, specifically with my closet. I have so many clothes but feel like I never have anything to wear so I decided to regularly get rid of things. I still have nothing to wear lol but I bring my clothes to plato’s closet and use the money I make to get new clothes. I donate some clothes too but it’s nice to kind of trade the old for new without hurting my budget!
2. I’ve never tried barre but I’ve wanted to for a while. one of my resolutions is to be unafraid to try new workouts. I get nervous because none of my friends want to be my gym buddy so I have to go alone. but I already tried Zumba and you inspired me to try the barre class at my Y!
3. I’ve seen so many weird things. Recently I saw someone looking for a drake lookalike. I couldn’t apply for that position! haha
by the way I love your random salads! when I see yours it inspires me to throw random ingredients together. otherwise I get really bored with salads.
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol I always stand in front of my closet and say “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR” and then I laugh at how dumb that is. I just hate wearing things more than once and I NEED to get over that. Does Plato’s closet pay pretty well for the clothing? I’m afraid it’ll be a rip off and I’d be better off just donating to a good cause.
I was also afraid to try it. I don’t like trying new things and it’s pathetic. It’s definitely a class that you can go alone and not feel judged or feel like you’re being watched. People are in their own zone and believe me, they were at the same level as you/us when they started. You just have to start somewhere. Zumba is super fun and i’m a horrible dancer lol.
A DRAKE LOOKALIKE? HAHAHAH FOR WHAT?!
Thank you! Random salads are my thang.
Jaime says
It’s not too bad! They’re picky about what they take but I end up making anywhere between $3-$10 a garment, depending on the quality and brand. In the past few months of purging I made about $60 and still donated several bags of clothes, so I get the good feeling of giving to a good cause while also having some money to spend on new clothes. I’m not sure if there’s one near you but I’ve also been to Clothes Mentor and had some good luck there. That might be a local chain though.
No idea what the drake lookalike was for! I wonder if they had any luck hahah
Amanda says
I did a month long trial of barre class, and it was… interesting. I enjoyed it, but didn’t see any change in my physique, and I couldn’t justify the insane price once the trial was over.
Taralynn McNitt says
Oh my is it pricy! I’m hoping i can reduce the sore days in-between to make it more worth hit. I’m going to run on the days I’m sore!
Emily Weir says
I just started taking barre classes around Christmas and LOVE it. I made the mistake of taking one and then going for a half-marathon training run the next day and really regretted it. I feel like the classes will be a good compliment to running though. Glad you’re enjoying the burn too! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, my run was so tough yesterday because barre killed me! I’m excited to improve!
Andrea @ Chasing Strength says
Great update, we picked up some free to a good home patio chairs off of craigslist once, when we couldn’t fit them all in our car so the guy giving them away delivered the rest for us!! We not only got free chairs they were delivered too, we tried to give him money but he wouldn’t take it. I love spring cleaning, but I’m doing it all this month though instead of waiting for spring. Figured I have the time now where as I may not come spring.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Andrea!
Sometimes you meet some very kind people on there. My mom just bought a gorgeous mirror for their house and the man delivered it. I’ve been cleaning and decluttering as well!
N says
I saw on Instagram you did Pure Barre – isn’t it the best? I started going in October and go 5 times a week now and I’m obsessed. You start seeing changes more around the two month mark as long as you go consistently.
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s so tough! But I loved it. I wasn’t drenched in sweat, I wasn’t gasping for air, and it was very fast paced at the same time. I can’t’ go five times a week yet…I need to get used to using those muscles and then I will be able to. I’ll be running on the off days! It’s a fun way to get in shape before summer.
Carolyn says
I don’t necessarily spring clean, I just get into moods where I get in the mood to go through everything or start cleaning. Last week I got in the mood to pull all of my clothes that I don’t wear out of my closet and now we have a bag of “to be donated” clothes.
I have a membership to a Barre studio. I LOVE it! I have found such a difference in my running since I started. But it leaves me so sore!!!
I have never used Craigslist before, but we are about to start looking for new furniture for the house so I may be checking it out soon 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I get into the mood to clean as soon as I’m over winter. It sounds weird, but I’m jumping for the change! I feel like it jinxes everything becuase now we are expecting snow and an ice storm.
So happy to hear that it’s helped your running. That is what I want!
I’m surprised you haven’t! As an interior designer, you may be able to find some awesome deals that you can refurbish!!
Hilary says
I have been wanting to try out barre class for awhile! I hear it is such a great workout! And especially in the ab area, and now that I hear how sore you were I totally believe it!
Taralynn McNitt says
You’ll definitely want to give it a try. I was struggggglin on the abs. I have been focussing way too much on the same workouts and cardio, so this was an eyeopener.
Meghan says
Spring Cleaning is so important. and when I say “spring cleaning” what I really mean is just cleaning in general. Let’s just say that last night I was merely going to sweep the floor and I ended up on my hands and knees scrubbing all the baseboards. whoops!
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol that is how I do it. When I clean…I CLEAN! But I have to get in the mindset.
Angela says
Wow, for some reason, I feel like I related to basically everything you wrote about- haha! I just started back up in school as well, have been trying to cut back on spending, and have really been loving barre classes. I also just made my mom watch the visit this weekend- me and my sister saw it in theaters and were screaming, crying, and laughing all at the same time… Plus I 100% agree with your opinions on the bachelor- I completely lost respect for Amber in the last episode and was surprised at how catty the girls were acting… Ben is hands down one of the sweetest bachelors though, I really hope he finds someone!
Taralynn McNitt says
Funny how people can relate 🙂 That movie is seriously the BEST! My mom thought it was hilarious. I’m obsessed with that little boy in the film. He’s hilarious. The girls are so catty, but thats what happens when you’re trapped in a house, drunk, and fighting over the same man. We were laughing at one of the girls who is basically everyone’s therapist. She sits there in scenes and just listens to people. YES BEN is my fave 🙂
Angela says
That little boy in the visit definitely makes the film!
Taralynn McNitt says
definitely!!
Chandler says
OMG I LOVE BARRE. I used to belong to a studio and I went all the time, but it was too expensive to keep up. I completely know what you mean about the muscles you never use, because I used to get really sore when I started going, but you feel amazing, and you get stronger.
I don’t really do spring cleaning because I routinely do a big clean out of stuff, and re-organize everything. Planning on that this weekend 😉
I also love the pizza idea! I use whole wheat carb balance tortillas for mine. I also love just snacking on turkey pepperonis! I put them on a paper towel, and microwave them! They get really crispy and it’s a healthy snack! Have a good weekend! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, luckily they have deals going on right now. I’m excited to get over the soreness and keep going. Luckily I have a friend to go with!
Good that you have a routine cleaning!
I also microwave them and make pepperoni crisp!! 🙂
Kristin Cook says
I pass by Berry Brook Farms every day on my way to work, but I have never stopped.
Also, where is that coffee shop you said you had a gift card to? I’ve never seen it.
Taralynn McNitt says
Dean and Deluca! There is one uptown and one in Ballantyne 🙂
You should stop in! You’d love it.
Mallori says
I can’t wait to see all your before and after photos! My boyfriend just bought a house, and has flipped several in the past, but this will definitely be his biggest project yet, and I am SO excited to help. The house was built in 1886, and still has the original doors and wood floors. How exciting is that!
Keep posting before and after, I need some inspiration and I absolutely LOVE your taste. Have a great weekend.
-Mal
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks! I bet the house is going to be GORGEOUS when you guys are done. I LOVE the older homes. I can’t wait to do the entire remodel post!!
Taylor says
I’m so happy you tried barre!! It is the absolute best work out and you never plateau you can always work just a little bit harder, my flexibility is so amazing now, good luck with it!
Taralynn McNitt says
It was great! I love getting inspiration from other’s barre stories! Thank you!
shanna says
oh my, that pic of tino in the window is hilarious!
I can’t wait to see the before and after pics of the house!
I live in Washington. I do not like football but I’m forced to watch. it’s my magazine time. haha. with the little that I did pay attention to that game on sunday I can just say the panthers deserved to win. and I don’t even know what is going on.
I was thinking while reading this, and also about your budget post, once you and nick move into the house it’ll be much easier to not eat out. cooking together, eating at home, tons of quality time!
I do spring clean and I need to get on it!
I have never tried barre. there is a studio here that offers the first class free. if I ever work up the courage, i’ll try it out.
Taralynn McNitt says
He is such a silly dog and he knows it!
Hahhaha you crack me up! I’m not excited for this year’s halftime show! ewwwww so I’m excited for the commercials.
We definitely eat out less when we aren’t hanging out too lol
You should definitely try it at least once! 🙂

I love your recap posts! It’s fun to see what you’ve been up to. My dog LOVES toilet paper rolls too! He stand and whine at it until we give it to him. My husband bought a Jeep on craigslist. I could not believe he did that, but I do love it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Tara!
That is so funny and I’m glad Grumples never got into that. Tino will find everything and anything to play with. He’s so silly! That was a great craigslist find!

Holy long blog post!!! I love getting to see your life in little bits and pieces. Your home is coming together phenomenally. Those floors…oh those floors!! Can’t wait to see the final photos 🙂 I also loved seeing your random meals you’ve posted. I also have a habit of making salads with just about every and anything I can find in the fridge/pantry…those are my favorite meals!
I have never taken a Barre class but your post about it intrigued me! I think I’m going to do some research and see if there are any around my area. I’m always up for trying new workouts so this could be perfect for me. Plus it’s still too cold to run outside here in Illinois and lets be real…the gym is getting old!
You’re going to laugh at my Craigslist story. In college I had a mannequin; yes a full blown life size Old Navy looking mannequin. He had eye lashes, a thumbs up and a half on his other hip. His name was Cleatus and he stood in the corner of my apartment and I dressed him up for holidays. After college I realized maybe it was time for him to go. I put him on Craigslist and right away a man wanted him for the window of his window washing company. He lived a few hours away and decided to FLY HIS PLANE in to the local airport just to pick up Cleatus. Yes, the man wanted Cleatus so bad he FLEW in the very next weekend. I do miss him but I laugh every time I think about the story! haha

I think it’s my longest yet!
I’m so obsessed with the floors and they look even better now that the finish is on there! I’m so excited to post the photos once we have all the furniture and our refurbished furniture up. & I agree! Those are the best types of salad.
It’s way too cold here to run outside (for me anyway) and I used to live in Chicago, so I know how those Illinois winters are.
Lol this is the best Craigslist story I’ve ever heard. I can’t believe someone wanted a mannequin that bad! also…this guy seems a bit creepy!

As a former ballet dancer, I dont like barre as much as I thought I would. It feels like a great workout but I think its not like my ballet classes which is more what I was expecting i guess. I think id like to give it another shot though!
Taralynn McNitt says
I think that is why I like barre so much because I’m not or never could be a ballet dancer – or a dancer in general lol

Gosh your pup is the CUTEST. Looks like he got a trim 🙂 Also, how did you choose that name? It’s so cute. I definitely need to restock my closet with some things from your shop. I missed out on your tye dye long sleeve so I need to scoop up some new things before they’re gone. Have a great week and weekend 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! I think so too 🙂
He got his hair cut and is like a whole different dog! 🙂 I have some more tye dye outfits up there today! I hope you also have a great weekend!

I tried barre before! It was a great workout. Reminded me of pilates and kinda sorta dance. I got asked that a lot when I went with a few of my sorority sisters, “is this like your ballet days?” Haha. No. Not at all. Still a great workout though. Not for me, even with my ballet training. Crossfit and Yoga is more me. I love how there are workouts for everyone though. My sister loves anything that doesn’t seem like a workout, like IM soccer or the gritty goddess 5K run haha.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yeah, it’s hard to find the right workout that fits. I LOVE running, but I also know I have to incorporate more strength training and I havent found anything that I absolutely love. A couple years ago when I was living in Atlanta, I fell in love with going to classes and I wish I could find a little gym around here like that.

Grumples and Tino are so adorable! My cousin has a pitbull named Mika and she is the sweetest dog I have ever met and Tino kinda reminds me of her lol!
Taralynn McNitt says
They really are the sweetest dogs!

I’m so glad you tried a Barre Class Taralynn. That is one of my favorite classes along with spin. You’re post had me laughing, I just went back to Barre last night after having to take a month off. I couldn’t believe how out of breath I was and how sore I am today. Definitely drinking lots of water like you.
Glad to hear the house is coming along, can’t wait to see the finished product!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks jessica! I was so sad class was canceled yesterday!! 🙁

Hi Taralynn! I wanted to tell you that I got sucked into the Bachelor the other night. I was waiting for the Biggest Loser and turned it on while waiting. Needless to say, I ended up missing the Biggest Loser, haha! Talk about drama, but very entertaining to say the least!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahahahaha I love it! At least you can watch it on Hulu!:)

Oh my god Barre class is sooo hard! I am a weight lifter but doing those little movements made my legs shake to the point that they couldn’t stop. Your pictures of the dogs are so adorable, and you are really making me want a juice ; ). Love your blogs, I wait for them every week. Can’t wait to see the house! The floors already look so good.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Katie! 🙂

Hey there! From one Carolina girl (I live in Raleigh) to another, I highly recommend checking out Flybarre. I go to Flywheel cycling regularly and started incorporating Flybarre in as well – totally complimentary to my cardio, and like you said, using muscles you didn’t know existed. The Charlotte location is gorgeous and your first class is free!! I’m addicted.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Lindsay!
I’ve heard so much about Flybarre, but it looks pretty intimidating, but I will always try something once!
Lily says
Is there a recipe for that pizza?! Looks so yummy! Pizza is my favorite but I’m trying to find a “healthy” version!
Taralynn McNitt says
It’s just a tortilla with pizza sauce, turkey pepperonis, cheese, and baked for 15 minutes at 350! 🙂
Christi says
I LOVE pizza and crave it all the time but since I’m trying to lose weight I never eat give in to my craving. Your low cal version look too good to be under 250 calories. 🙂 Did you use tomato sauce or a pizza sauce and did you use a low fat cheese? Thanks, I want to make this asap!

First of all, I think your salad is the most random combination I’ve ever seen.. yet oddly I really want to try it ! hahah.
I really need to do some spring cleaning. I’m guilty of keeping everything! It’s just so hard to let some things go. Definitely something I have to work on!
I’ve thought about trying barre in the past, and now I’m even more motivated to try it! It sounds hard, but in a good way!
Are you still taking distance classes? I’m in an online class and finding it hard to push myself to study. Any tips?

Hahaha I love random combos.
I need to get rid of some things as well! I’m taking online classes and I just keep all of my assignments and work in my daily planner so it doesn’t go missed. I also try to get things done way before theyre due so I’m not stressed over it.

Hi!
First, I love your blog. Something about all the pictures and blurbs motivates me to get moving!
Second, I noticed you are always taking the pups on trails or driving somewhere to take them on walks. Do you live somewhere without a lot of yard space? I ask because I’m moving in to an apartment in a few weeks and I’m super nervous about my american bulldog. Right now he lives with my boyfriend full time and has a huge yard to run around in. Is it hard to find the time to take the dogs on daily walks and/or give them the right amount of exercise? I guess I am just afraid he will be unhappy in such a smaller space.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you Amanda 🙂
I make sure to dedicate at least an hour a day to him. I make sure he gets out to run, play or walk. There are parks, trails, and neighborhoods you can find to walk your pup 🙂

Hello!
I have a strange question for you, how do you cook your bacon? It looks so darn yummy and crispy!! I only like crispy bacon! lol!
Taralynn McNitt says
I like to bake it 🙂
