I was really sad about leaving Maine and I’m already counting down the days until next summer. We woke up early morning so we could take advantage of the last day and explore a little. We chose a good day to explore because it was overcast and chilly. We took about a six mile drive down to York, Maine. It’s a cute little ocean town with shops and restaurants. That is also where Nubble Lighthouse is.
It was so foggy! It was kind of creepy; I kept thinking about that horror movie “The Ring.”
We decided to go get breakfast together and drive back once the fog faded.
We went to Daily Ground down the road from the lighthouse to have breakfast. We decided to sit outside on the deck because it was so nice out; it felt like Fall. The breakfast spot was really cute and had gorgeous flowers all around it.
Our breakfast literally came out in under ten minutes. I was impressed! I ordered the Denver Omelet. It came with home fries and wheat toast. I also ordered a side of fresh fruit. Everything tasted fantastic!
The best part!? Their coffee!
After breakfast, we drove back to the lighthouse. The fog had definitely gone down and we could finally see it better. My pictures don’t do this spot justice because it was breathtaking to look at. Just like everything else in Maine, it looked like a painting.
We met back in Ogunquit after stopping in some shops and driving around the coast. I bought some adorable handmade bracelets and a stone necklace from a little local Native American shop. We all hopped on the trolly to head down to Perkin’s Cove for lunch.
Other than the trolly hair, looking at this photo has me thinking I need to suck it up and go get my hair died darker. I’ve been doing this whole “don’t use hair straighteners, no blowdryers, hair cut every month, no dye” thing but I don’t think it’s working. I’m so tired of it fading at the ends; it looks dead, but its not. I can’t even blame the crappy cell phone quality for my hair.
This dress will be in my shop soon! Email me to preorder! taralynnmcnitt@gmail.com
We finally made it to Ogunquit village. Riding the trolly is definitely an adventure. The rides are far from smooth…
The fog hanging over the boats looked really neat. This is how I pictured Maine.
The water was so still and peaceful looking.
Perkin’s Cove is one of my favorite parts of Ogunquit. It’s a must if you’re traveling down that way.
We stopped at Chowder’s Cafe & Deli for lunch. It’s a cute little spot right on the water. You can eat inside, outside on the front patio, or outside by the water. It was pretty crowded, so we ate out front.
They had a lot of options to choose from. It was hard picking what to eat because everything looked so good. I had to take picture of the Pistachio vending machine because it was adorable and such a cute idea. I have an old machine like this one. I’m thinking about fixing it up and adding mixed nuts to it.
I was still really full from breakfast, so I ordered Lobster salad over mixed greens. Their lobster salad was REALLY good! Again, I’m not a huge fan of lobster and I still liked it. I’m starting to truly believe that you can create a taste for just about anything.
Lobster roll and clam chowder soup. I tried their clam chowder and liked it, but it wasn’t as good as Jackie’s Too‘s!
After lunch, we all talked over to Breaking New Grounds for dessert and coffee by the water. Phyllis and I could have sat at this coffee shop the entire trip. We had to go back again. Someone needs to open a coffee shop on Lake Wylie.
I ordered coffee this time and it was so good! It wasn’t dull or extremely strong; it was just right. We all shared the seven layered bar, one of my favorite desserts! If you have a healthy/ier version of these, please let me know!
After lunch, we all went kayaking for several hours. We started in the Ogunquit river and kayaked several miles to the Ogunquit ocean and back around. It was a total of four miles.
We are now obsessed with kayaking. It was a great workout! We are looking into getting one because there are tons of places to kayak in Charlotte. It was so relaxing.
I was so sticky from the salt water and freezing! I took a hot shower and a twenty minute nap before dinner.
We headed back down to Ogunquit village for dinner. We stopped at Hamburger Harry’s for dinner. No one at the table had ever heard of “Poutine” and while I was living with a ton of my Canadian friend’s in New York several years ago, they always made them! I hadn’t had them since. Poutine is a Canadian dish consisting of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. I was crossing my fingers that they would like it and they did!
I know Hamburger Harry’s is a place where you should probably order a hamburger, but I was still full from breakfast and lunch and didn’t want to feel miserable, so I ordered a grilled chicken salad. For being a burger place, they had delicious salads!
It had spring mix lettuce, feta, red onion, strawberries, pecans, grilled chicken, and guacamole on top.
But don’t worry! I still tried their burgers, so I can say “they have delicious burgers.” He said it was one of the best burgers he’s ever had. I’m not a burger person, so I can’t really judge, but it was awesome!
We stopped at The Bread and Roses Bakery after dinner for coffee. We bought some desserts to take home with us too.
I highly recommend going into this place. The staff was nice and it was super fast service. They have a cute little alleyway with tables to drink your coffee. Plus the coffee was delicious. I’ve overused the world “cute” in this post, but it’s the only way to describe Maine.
After shopping around Ogunquit, we headed to Wells to play mini golf. I’m the mini golf champion of summer 2015. Let’s see if they can beat me next year! (always go last so you can read everyone else putt)
We headed to scoop deck after mini golfing to grab ice cream. There was noway I could fit ice cream in, so I passed it up for the first time in a long time. We hung around there until midnight chatting with friends and soaking up the last day in Maine.
It was off to New York in the morning!

All of this food looks AMAZING!
As far as your hair goes, maybe I can offer some help! It seems like you’re out in the sun a lot, and sun can bleach and lighten hair. Have you tried a hair sunscreen? It’s a spray-on sunscreen that helps protect your scalp from burns and your hair from fading.
You could also try a shampoo upgrade. I have a very low-maintanence beauty routine but I am particular about my shampoo and have found that Pureology brand (they make a special kind to prevent hair color fade) is a miracle worker. It’s expensive, but I wash my hair less, it feels cleaner, and the color stays way better.
I also try to treat my hair with coconut oil once a month (slather it in, put it up in a bun to set for a half hour, wash out well with a shampoo and condition as normal) and that helps keep it soft, especially after being in saltwater and pool water.

Looks like you had such an amazing time! Regarding your hair, have you ever tried an overnight coconut oil treatment? It changed my life! Lol all you do it work a bunch of coconut oil into your hair, paying special attention to your ends. When your hair is all saturated, stuff it all under a shower cap and sleep on it. In the morning, wash it out with shampoo, don’t use conditioner (you won’t need it). Voila! Life changing!

I can’t believe Americans havent figured out how awesome Poutine is. I live in Ontario and while, its horribly unhealthy and can’t be eaten very often, I love it.

That place looks like a fairytale.

Taralynn I loved your hair darker!
It’s really easy to find dark organic dyes in the health food shops or specialty hairdressers
Or Lush had those Henna shampoos!
Won’t damage it at all.
My natural hair colour just does not suit my skin tone, no shame in dyeing your hair! Much love

I am loving these vacation posts- waiting a week or so without any posts was total worth it! You’re right- that farmhouse is a little The Ring-esque 🙂 Again, I am now in the mood for coffee…but I think I’ll take the latte in your other post! Can’t wait to see more.
