We were so tired from driving late through the night after the Yankees game that we slept through our alarm clocks. That hardly ever happens. I usually wake up before my alarm goes off, even if I’ve only had a couple hours of sleep. I have one of those internal alarm systems that rarely allows me sleep past seven, and it’s super annoying. It was nine by the time we got up and around. We decided to go downstairs and grab breakfast before we took off for Maine. It was only a two hour drive, so we weren’t in a rush. Silly us! We totally looked passed the Saturday morning beach traffic. The two hour drive turned into five.
As soon as we got to Maine, we checked into our hotel. We stayed the Ogunquit River Inn and Suites. It was a nice little place to stay right between Wells Beach and Ogunquit. It’s a great location to pick up the trolly and it overlooks the Ogunquit river leading into the ocean.
We caught his family just in time. They were on their way to Saturday night mass, so we threw our things in the room and tagged along.
We were all super hungry after church. The family arrived in Maine a day before us because we decided to go to the Yankees game. They went to Jackie’s Too for dinner the night we weren’t there; they loved it so much that they ate there again with us. I had been holding out on Seafood for months because of this trip. I was in seafood heaven.
After all the driving, we needed (wanted) a drink!
I ordered a glass of merlot. Sitting at an ocean front restaurant sipping wine made me feel as if I was living a Pinterest post.
Everything on the menu sounded great, so I had a hard time deciding what to order.
This was a view from our dinner table. I felt like I was sitting in a painting. The ocean was quiet, still, and it was hard to believe that it was real life. I’ve seen places like this in movies and paintings, but never experienced it. I guess they really do exist.
I had never tried clam chowder before this trip. I don’t like clams, so it would make sense to not like clam chowder, but it’s surprisingly different. It tasted more like a creamy potato soup mixed with seafood, not what I originally imaged…
I’m officially a New England Clam Chowder fan.
We had a great waiter. He dealt with our silliness and cracked a few jokes himself. He had us all guess where he was from (he had an accent) and he made the dining experience there really home-y. Sometimes you feel like outsiders when you’re on vacation, but you don’t get that vibe there.
I ordered the baked stuffed shrimp! How delicious does that look? The shrimp has a breaded lobster filling. It would be hard for me to date someone who doesn’t like seafood, because it’s my favorite and I’m always in the mood for it. I was blessed with a man who will eat anything.
After dinner, we walked around Perkin’s Cove in Ogunquit. I was excited to see all the boats because I saw this exact spot on Pinterest while I was browsing “things to do in Ogunquit.” I took about 100 photos of the boats, so instead of filling this blogpost up with them, I’m going to eventually make a separate blogpost of just boat photos. (just incase anyone cares/wants to see hundreds of boats) I think they’re pretty cool.
The shops are so cute and fun to walk around. I love quaint and colorful places.
Phyllis and I were determined to find a coffee shop. We share the love for late night coffee after dinner.
We found the cutest place in the world! Breaking New Grounds coffee shop. It’s right on the water with indoor and outdoor seating. These are the types of places I live for!
Imagine working in a little coffee shop on the ocean with baked goods and espressos. I’d be content for life.
This was the spot, the spot I have been searching for my entire adult life. A perfect view with a perfect latte. This was starting to feel as if it wasn’t real life. Did I just find my new favorite place in the entire world? I think so!
The coffee shop had comfortable lounge chairs outside that were perfect for capturing the sunset.
I couldn’t stop taking photos of my coffee.
Ok, last shot.
I loved watching the boats come in.
People who live in Maine are ridiculously lucky to experience summers like this. After the cold winters, they deserve it.
I wore my sea necklace:)
Next year we are going to go out on a sailboat. We didn’t have time this year, but I’m already looking forward to it. It look so peaceful.
We finished up our drinks and headed back to the car so we could stop and get some ice cream. Ogunquit is perfect. I know people say “perfect doesn’t exist”, but in my eyes, it does! Everything was fixed up, quaint, and cute!
The family has gone to Maine for years and they always go to Scoop Deck for ice cream. At this point, I was way too full to eat anything, but I had to at least try a bite at this famous spot.
How the heck was I supposed to choose a flavor with a list like that? I went with my favorite flavor, pistachio.
When they say “big portions” they don’t lie. I ordered a baby cone because I only wanted a little and that picture doesn’t do the size justice, it was huge for being a” baby cone.” The ice cream was really good and VERY fresh! It didn’t taste artificial, which I liked. You’re definitely getting your money’s worth here!
I loved this sign. “ONCE IN YOUR HANDS…ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!”
The first night in Maine was a success and by the end of the night I was ready for a good nights sleep!
Breakfast & Beach in the morning! (next post)

I grew up vacationing in Wells/Ogunquit during my childhood summers, and seeing all these pictures makes me want to drop everything and book a B&B there this weekend. You captured some of the most gorgeous scenes, Taralynn! I’ve lived in New England my whole life, and I always love to hear how much people love visiting here – the coastal towns are gems! So glad you enjoyed your trip, can’t wait for the boat post, by the way!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Jen! You’re lucky to live so close! Do you usually stay in the B&B’s there? There were so many cute ones!!
Jen says
I’m actually very lucky in that my best friend’s family lives in Wells, so we usually stay with them. However, I am obsessed with B&Bs – we’ve visited a few on the Cape, but never in Maine.
Taralynn McNitt says
So lucky for sure!
Kinz says
Love your hair that length! Is your hair naturally wavy?
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks! I’m slowly trying to grow it out. Unfortunatley the sun likes to turn the ends of my hair yellow and its driving me nuts! I’m just scared of dying it! My hair is naturally wavy/curly.
Melissa says
I definitely understand your “blogcation” but am so happy you’re back! These pictures are absolutely stunning. I’ve only been to Maine once, but share your love for it!

How crazy! We went on vacation from Knoxville at the beginning of July, and our itinerary was very similar. We hit NYC and Ogunquit. We even stayed at the Ogunquit River Inn and Suites!! It was my first time in Maine, and I loved it! It is such a nice break from the summer heat and humidity in the South. On the way there we drove through Vermont and New Hampshire, which I can’t recommend enough. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to get stuck in traffic in Vermont. It was so beautiful and peaceful after leaving hectic New York. I can’t wait to go back.
