After our lazy day on Wednesday, T.C., Karlee, and I headed out to grab a bite to eat for dinner. We heard that Delia’s Brick Oven Pizza was the place to go in the area and we were all craving pizza. We started out with warm pita chips and some kind of tomato basil butter.
We ordered sautéed calamari for our appetizer. They offer sautéed and fried, but we went with the healthier version. It was sautéed in olive oil with sun dried tomatoes, garlic, kalamata olives, and dried lemon with pesto genovese. All the flavors were spot on and it tasted fantastic. It always amazes me how chefs can create a dish with so many different ingredients that you’d never think would go well together and make it taste amazing.
We ordered a salad to split too. We chose the roasted walnut and gorgonzola salad. It came with mixed salad greens, crumbled gorgonzola, seasoned and blanched grape tomatoes, spiced roasted walnuts tossed in a raspberry vinaigrette.
I loved everything about this salad. It reminded me of the salad I ordered at Draught in Charlotte. Of course I picked off all cherry tomatoes…
We went with just a plain cheese brick oven pizza. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever had brick oven pizza before. It was definitely in the top pizzas! Sauce, cheese, and crust…perfection! It was another success in D.C.!

Never heard of tomato basel butter before – it looks just like hommus in that picture! I’d probably eat the whole thing by accident! Haha

lol we thought it was hummus at first!

I love calamari–it’s just very hard to chew! I guess it’s all the more reason to eat it because I tend to gulp it down and if I eat something like that it’ll force me to slow down and savor each bite.

I love all your interesting posts this week about D.C. I have never been there, but hope to in the future. I have had friends tell me that you have to be careful when going out at night there because of all the crime there. Are you finding that an issue? I am sure it is helpful to be there with someone who lives there and knows where to go and not to go. Blessings for the rest of your trip.

Hey
You should stop off at other museums while you are there. The air and space museums has a really great galaxy show in a IMAX theatre where you lay down in the seats and the screen is above you.
I’m glad you’re having fun with your brother and his girlfriend.
