After getting a new puppy, it’s always smart to take them to a vet right after, just to make sure everything is up to date and the dog is healthy. Saturday morning was Santino’s first vet appointment with us. It’s usually required to go to the Humane Society’s vet for the first year after adopting them. This way they can make sure the dog is being treated well, that he’s healthy, and of course to keep their humane society alive and running. After the first year we will be moving him to Grumples’s vet.
We wanted to make his day less stressful as possible and so we had a big day planned for him. After he had a booster shot, and a yummy banana dewormer, he was ready to leave! It’s safe to say that the vet is not his favorite place. The great thing is that he is healthy as a button.
When we got back, he rushed to the couch to cuddle up next to Grumples. I think he was a little worried that he was going back to the Humane Society. The vet is in the same building and it gave him anxiety. I couldn’t imagine being a dog and stuck in a cage all day, especially after spending a week running around a big backyard and getting so many kisses. I kept telling him not to worry 🙂
He seemed very relieved once he was cuddled up on that couch.
We packed Grumps and Tino in my car so we could let them run around my backyard. Nick and I ran into the grocery store and when we came out, Grumps was in the driver’s seat. He does this all the time and it’s literally hilarious. When you’re walking, you’re not expecting a big furry dog to be sitting there. People are always cracking up when they see it.
*Don’t worry, our friend, Anthony, is in the backseat with the dogs. We didn’t leave them in the car by themselves.
I am so happy the dogs play so well together. Grumples is so gentle with him. They go for hours fighting over the little squeaky toy. And they know when one of the dogs has had it for too long and they give it up.
Grumples likes to be chased, but when he’s not chasing, he’s very smart. He’ll chase Tino into a corner to trap him, or lead him into the bushes so that there is no way out.
And when they both get tired, it turns into a trot chase.
Tino hasn’t learned how to pee with a toy in his mouth yet and so Grumples takes advantage of that by going in for the steal!
Grumps has a strong jaw and it takes a lot for him to let go. If you want the toy, you’ll have to wait until he gives it up. Tino’s attention span is definitely like all other puppies. Grumps will stand taunting him for an hour and Tino lasts a minute.
Wherever Santino went, Grumples followed him with the toy in his mouth so he would chase him.
He’d drop the toy and then as soon as Tino would go for it, Grumples would grab it. This went on for about three minutes.
Eventually Grumples let Tino have it.
Grumples finally ran after him to get it. And when he got it…
Tino played dead. It was the funniest thing. He literately just fell and rolled. Grumps had no idea what was going on.
After letting the dogs get some exercise for hours, we took Tino to Dogma and Fetch to get a new tag and collar.
We also wanted to take him to the doggy bakery! They have the best holiday treats for dogs.
I thought this squeaky toy was hilarious. Tino is part pit bull too and so it fit. He loves it!
I picked out treats for the puppies for easter. I chose a blue bunny for the golden retriever, Luke, the yellow easter egg for the german shepherd/rott weiler, Haley, the vanilla truffle for the poodle mix, Marley, and the pink bunny square for Grumples!
Tino chose the chocolate brownie. The first one his nose touched was the one we bought!
After playing in the backyard, visiting the doggy bakery, and walking around the town, it’s safe to say Tino forgot all about the vet.
Nick and Anthony went into a sports shop and so I walked Tino around the block.
He loved going in and out of the bushes.
We are working on his selfie shots. Grumps has it down!
He is very photogenic though! Those eyes melt my heart <3
Sometimes devoting your entire day to your pup is much needed! They bring so much love and joy to our lives and it’s fair to give back.
He slept the whole way home 🙂
