On the first night of the fit trip, we took our bus to La Casita De Papi in Cabarete. After a long day of airport food, riding in multiple planes and doing lots of airport cardio, I was ready for a fresh seafood dinner!
Caberete is a place you must put on your bucket list. I thought places like this only existed in movies. The city looks like some fancy schmancy expensive spot that you only dream of going to, but it’s crazy affordable and it has such a relaxed environment. It very romantic as well and I can’t wait to bring my boyfriend back here.
When you get to the beach, there is a row of restaurants, bars, and nightlife to explore.
We had dinner at La Casita De Papi. The restaurant is steps from the Caribbean water and the tables are out on the beach. Seafood in the Dominican Republic is so fresh and that’s what makes it ten times better than seafood at home.
What I like about dinners here, is that they are longer so you can genuinely enjoy them. Not only the meals, but the environment, and the people you surround yourself with. Where I’m from, waiters rush to get you in and out of the restaurant. Here, there is no pressure. You don’t feel rushed at all and the longer you stay, the happier they are.
There weren’t any open tables when we got there, and so we sat up on the balcony and had some drinks. The upstairs of the restaurant is just for drinking and appetizers. The owner of the restaurant brought us out bruschetta to go with our drinks.
I ordered a mojito for my drink. You could taste the fresh lime, mint, and sugar in every sip. It was like heaven in a glass. I haven’t had a good mojito in a very long time and the ones here have been exquisite. How will I ever go back to the mojitos in the states?
We had an open table ready for us within ten minutes. We took our drinks and headed down to the beach for dinner.
Because the entrees are so big, we decided to share. I ordered a side parmesan arugula salad to start. It came with a balsamic (I’m guessing) dressing.
Our first entrée was crevette a la sauce papi. It was just shrimp (with heads!!) in a secret house sauce. The sauce they use for the food is so incredibly, you’ll find yourself searching for bread and rice just so you can get every last drop of it.
Our second dish was langostinos a la papi y ceviche with is just lobster in that secret house sauce. I’m not a lobster person, but I had two of these! They were so good!
I love getting dishes that everyone can share, you get more variety.
Our meal also came with potatoes and rice. The sides were to die for when they were dipped in the papi sauce!
If you’re ever in Cabarete, you must go down by the beach and have dinner at night!
