Finally the post I have been promising! I haven’t even hung the wreath up yet! I’m slightly slacking lately.
I’m kind of new to the D.I.Y post, but I’d like to do more of them! I do a lot of projects and would love to share them in the future!
This wreath was super simple. It will take some creativity, planning, and outdoor exploring. It’s a great way to get kids involved or a fun project to do with your friends.
It’s also pretty cheap! And who doesn’t love that?
Supplies (depending on your personal preference)
*Hot Glue Gun, * Wreath *Fall Leaves *Pine Cones, *Feathers, *Other Outdoor Plants, *Ribbon, *Scissors, *Beads, *Paint, *Paint Brush, *Spray Glue, *Sparkles, *Your Choice of Decorations.
But get creative! Add whatever you want!
I bought most of the supplies at Joann Fabrics. The rest were laying around the house. The leaves and pine cones were picked up from my running path with the help from my friend, Jess.
There is no need to dry out the leaves. They will dry out while they are on the wreath.
My mom has her wreath I made for her three years ago, and it’s still in excellent condition.
This is where you need to get creative. Choose paint colors that you want in your wreath. I chose metallic golds and reds to go with the theme of fall. They also give the leaves a beautiful shine.
While the paint was still wet on the leaves, I added the sparkles.
Gold is my favorite color!
I crawled under pine trees for these pine cones!
There are so many fun crafts you can do with pine cones. I love how elegant they look when they are painted and sprinkled with sparkles. A couple years ago, my friend Niki and I threw a Christmas party. I think we painted over 300 pine cones! Spray painting them works well, too.
Let the pine cone dry before flipping it around to a paint the other half.
Some of them had a gorgeous deep color, so I didn’t paint them. I only added the cold sparkles. I used spray glue to keep them on.
I wanted to keep the natural color of a lot of the plants. So instead of painting them, I sprayed them with spray glue and sprinkled sparkles on top.
The glue also helps them stiffen up for the wreath.
Before I forget, I laid down cardboard to do all the painting and gluing over. You don’t want to ruin your floors. Make sure not to use newspaper or magazines because the plants will stick to the paper.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the black sparkles, so I mixed them in with gold. I also went out and picked more of these because I thought it looked better in it’s natural form. Some things are better left untouched.
These ones were my favorite!
I love the fall leaves that are full of color. All you have to do is use glue spray and sprinkle sparkles over the top.
Try to find plants that are long and short.
Allow the plants to dry for about 20 minutes before attaching them on the wreath.
Heat glue gun.
Start poking the long plants into the wreath. You will have to use your creative eye to find the perfect spots.
I like to use the longer plants on one side and make them sprout at an angle.
The steams that protrude out the sides will need to be cut with scissors or covered with other decorations.
Some of the plants will not need glued in.
The pine cones and little leaves will need glued.
I saw pearls and little gems at Joann’s and thought they would be unique on the wreath!
After attaching all the plants, I attached the ribbon.
A lot of people are pros at tying bows for wreaths. I am horrible at it. Instead of doing it the right way…I glue it together with a hot glue gun. I form the loops and glue them together. No one would ever know the difference. Unless they read this post.
Let the wreath dry for about 20 minutes. Luckily it was a beautiful day, so I could do all of the work outside.
The cool thing about making wreaths is you can customize them for each Holiday. For Christmas, I am going to change the bow, remove the birds, and add a Christmas bow and tree ornaments.
I think making your own wreaths brings a little personal touch to your house and no one else in the world will have one like you. Sorry, Mrs. Jones, but you can’t keep up with this wreath!
If I could make and sell wreaths for the rest of my life; I would. It’s very therapeutic and I am always proud of the outcome! Now I can’t wait to get started on my Christmas crafts!

What a beautiful wreath!
I’m not very skilled in terms of handicraft but I’d like to try this when I return home from my vacation. Thanks for the inspiration! I’d love to see more DIY posts in the future.
