When life gives you a break in the rain, head to the farmer’s market. It has been raining all weekend. My golf, hiking, and other outside plans were all canceled. Luckily, the farmer’s market never lets me down.
Yesterday morning, Sealy and I woke up early to go Uptown for the market. I have been in the mood to make pies and the market has the best fruits for it!
Not only do farmer’s markets have the best produces, it helps out the local farmers. The food at the farmer’s market is always healthier, in season, and fresher.
Plus the prices are so much better! I buy a tiny container of blackberries that are the size of peanuts at the grocery store for about five dollars. This huge pint with jumbo blackberries came to only five dollars.
I mean…look how big they are! I’m going to be making a blackberry peach pie later.
The fruits and vegetables were endless. I bought tons of peaches for the pies.
I picked up a few tomatoes and zucchini to make zucchini pizza.
Have you ever seen a more beautiful cabbage? 😉 Even if you don’t necessarily like fruits and vegetables, walking the farmer’s market is a great way to get out of the house and be social. It’s fascinating to read all about the vendors and how they got started. The vendors are so friendly and always ready to talk.
There is more to the farmer’s market than the produce. They have oils, baked goods, jellies, butters, salsas, local honey, meats, eggs, etc.
Hey…and free samples!
The market is the best way to avoid GMOS.
If you like the organic, gmo free, farm raised meats, you can possibly form a relationship with a farmer and have them supply you with your preferred meats occasionally.
And you can’t forget how gorgeous the flowers are. I hope my future husband takes note…Flowers every Sunday? I’d be OK with that.
Bird & Bear Cookie Co had the biggest cookies ever! AND THEY WERE DELICIOUS.
Sealy and I did some Sunday wine tasting and loved Fiddler’s Vineyard. The man running the booth was so friendly and knew so much about his wine!
We decided on the Cat Head wine. It was red, mildly sweet, and a tad dry. We are going to make a trip with the girls to Cherryville to visit!
I’m pretty picky about my corn, because I’m from Iowa…but these were up to par 😉
One of the vendors had alcohol free/no sugar added wine with all kinds of health benefits from the muscadine. It had a wonderful aftertaste.
If you’re ever in the Charlotte area, make sure you make a trip to the Regional Farmer’s market! It has so much to offer, you’ll save tons of money, and it’s fun. A great place to bring the family!
You can read more about it here!

Wow everything looks so good! I love pretty much every fruit and vegetable out there but I have never been to a farmers market. You have definitely inspired me to make a trip to my towns market. 🙂 You can’t beat local produce for such great prices.

Unfortunately here in Australia, Farmers Markets are VERY expensive. About double the price of a supermarket. Although makes sense- a supermarket can buy in bulk from the farmers, we cannot! Fantastic bargain with the blackberries! I think we need to take on the American-Style of farmers markets!

I love my local Farmer’s Market, but this one in Charlotte looks so much better! We only have a couple stands with local produce and various other things but no meats. If I’m ever in NC, I’ll be sure to make a stop there on a Sunday!

Wow! That farmer’s market looks like it’s on steroids!! The farmers market by my house is very small with few options. If I am ever in Charlotte, I will definitely visit there 🙂

Unfortunately for me in Utah there are so many GMO farms in the state that almost no one can certify their produce GMO free and organic because the winds carry those over into the smaller farms. But I just ask and as long as they say they didn’t plant using those seeds or pesticides it works for me! Those prices looked cheaper than here so far, lucky you! Love your pictures btw!

Where in uptown Charlotte is this??? I just moved to Charlotte in January and want to check this out!

Your market is so much purdier! One thing I love to get from my market is bee pollen. It helps with allergies and I like to sprinkle a little on top of my Shakeology.

I’m so intrigued by that alcohol-free wine. I wish Farmers Market’s around me had that, all the more reason to visit Charlotte one day though!
