5am came way too soon this morning. I’m usually good about waking up early because I’m one of those “once I’m up, I’m up” types. But when I’m dreading something, it’s the opposite and I could sleep for hours.
After waking up, I sat around and had coffee while watching the news with my parents. I loaded my car up and then took Grumples for a three mile walk. I always walk him before road trips to get some of that doodle energy out. After walking Grumps, I had breakfast and then took off for my trip at 7 am.
I got hungry around 10 and thankfully my loving mom packed me hardboiled eggs and quest bars.
I’ve decided to split the trip in half. I’m so over driving 10+ hours on the road. I doubt Grumples appreciates it. So I booked a room in Lexington Kentucky for the night!
Grumps was hilarious during the drive. Every 20 minutes he would inch closer to the front seat and eventually he was all the way on my lap. He makes his way around the car.
I’m well aware of being coffee snob. I don’t like drip coffee from Starbucks, most coffee shops, or gas stations. But when I’m really tired…I suck it up!
I didn’t feel like pulling over to pick something up and I also didn’t pack very many snacks on this road trip like usual. (We all have our lazy days) I just had an other quest bar to hold me over!
I stopped to get gas around two and picked up some Planter’s pistachios too. I’m glad gas stations sell the single serving bags. I have no will power when it comes to pistachios. I ate the entire bag last road trip. Whoops!
Another favorite spot of Mr. Grumples…
He loves to stare down the drivers behind me.
I don’t know about you, but messy buns are my best friends during road trips!
I finally got to Lexington at 6pm! I checked into the hotel for the night and now I’m just waiting on Jeremy! He’s driving in from Chicago.
The closest food stop was…McDonalds. I’m aware of how horrible it is for you, but sometimes you just have to make things work. I tried to order one of the healthiest/satisfying meals possible. I ordered the Southwest chicken salad.
My mom also packed these in my bag for dessert:)
Tomorrow, I’m heading to South Carolina!

Would you consider doing a quick messy bun tutorial? I know you’ve said you might in the past but I haven’t seen on. Your buns always turn out so perfect! 🙂
