I’m smiling because the sun is finally shining here in Michigan! Unfortunately it came out way too late. I’m moving to South Carolina next week! I’m really excited about it. The sad part is that it’s only for 3-4 months, so I guess I can’t really say I’m “moving” there, just “living” there. I don’t even know what to call it. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the internet and talking to some people down there. I want to make the best of the trip. I plan on visiting all kinds of places and exploring the treasures of South Carolina. I was thinking about doing a blog post of all the places I want to visit while I’m there. What do you think? Maybe you can add to it!
This weekend is the calm before the storm. I have a lot of packing to do next week, a drive to Chicago to our storage unit, a drive to Iowa to drop off some things and pick up some things, and then a drive to South Carolina. I’m contemplating on staying in Iowa for a little longer and just meeting Jeremy in South Carolina later. I’ll just see how things go. The weather and beauty are pulling me towards the South!
Yesterday night after finishing up work and some other things around the place, I headed to the gym. To be honest, I didn’t even want to go. Jeremy was like “you’ll regret it” and “just come with me”, so I was guilt tripped there, but after I finished my workout I was happy that I did. Sometimes it takes an extra push out the door.
When I’m not in the mood to workout, running gets boring. I either have to be all in it or I dread it. I did a walk/run workout to keep it entertaining and light. This was a workout that I did to lose weight and to improve my running back in the day. It’s really simple! You can change the speeds and times to fit your fitness level. It helps to watch T.V. while you’re on the treadmill so you don’t get bored!
Yesterday after dinner, the pain in my right heel kept coming back. I couldn’t understand where the pain was coming from because there was no blister, bruising, or cuts. I also noticed my right shoes were fitting differently. The crazy thing is that I can still run and it doesn’t bother me. I decided to take a picture so I could see the back of my foot. I noticed that the right bone or tendon was poking out and curving. Now, I can be a hypochondriac sometimes, so I posted it on my Instagram to see if anyone else saw what I was seeing and the certainly did. I am going to make a doctor’s appointment as soon as I get back in Iowa.
I have an embarrassing addiction thanks to my mom. I can’t stop playing Candy Crush! I told her she was silly for playing it and then I found myself stealing her phone to beat her levels. I decided to download it on my phone and now I haven’t been able to stop.(only when it makes you) I even stopped writing this post when my phone told me I had more lives…but on the plus side, I can thank Candy Crush for waking me up this morning. I couldn’t fall back asleep after 5am, and I decided to go to the Saturday morning spin class. I needed to do something other than the treadmill. It’s still way too cold to run outside and I’m getting so bored of running on that machine! I have never burned so many calories after an hour spin class. I had a different instructor this morning and she kicked butt! Looks like I’ll be diving into extra ice cream tonight! Booooya!
After class, I came home and took Mr. Grumples for a quick walk. I worked a little this morning on organizing my receipts and tax papers while eating breakfast. I had two hard boiled eggs, a Greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, whole grain toast with peanut butter, and mixed nuts. I live for mornings and find them so peaceful. There is nothing better than being the only one awake, drinking coffee in silence, and getting work done.

My in-laws live in SC. It’s a beautiful area. Go to Hilton Head and Beaufort. Definitely pop over to Savannah too – it’s very close and super cute downtown where Paula Dean’s restaurant is. There’s a lot of history down there (military related), and the homes are very pretty, especially anything that’s been restored. Neat stuff! Enjoy!!

Where do you go for spin class? I’ve never been.

Hey Tara! I’m a physical therapist….it looks like you may be developing Haglund deformity of that heel. It’s usually caused by tight Achilles’ tendon…try stretching the gastroc (runners stretch) as well as the soleus (runners stretch with back knee bent). The doctor may suggest different foot wear, but other than surgery there’s not a lot he can do (if that’s indeed what it is). Good luck!

I totally have the same thing with my heels! It started out when I was younger, and it would ruin the back on my tennis shoes. So annoying! Anyways, I’ve gotten used to it now, but it does hurt sometimes when it rubs the back of my shoes. As far as I know, it’s really nothing to worry about. My husband tells me I have chicken feet. Haha, flattering, I know.

If you take an hour long class, that is normal.

It looks like a bone spur. SC is gorgeous. Visit Hilton Head and Charleston for sure. Hilton Head is about 30 min from Savannah which is an awesome place to get away to. So beautiful. Check out the Gullah culture on the islands of GA/SC. If you remember the show Gullah Gullah Island, it was somewhat based off of that culture. Glad you get to come back to the south! It’s finally starting to warm up here. 🙂

Hey I just found something this morning I think you’d like. It’s an app called Steller (in Apples App Store, not sure about android). It’s a multimedia social app. You’ll like the Bon Appetit section. Check out the Lan’s Macarons (or as we Americans like to call them macaroons). With your love of cooking and photography this app has you all over it. Enjoy

Hey! I currently live in Charleston, South Carolina (thanks military!)! You guys have to visit Charleston! There is SO much to do here. TONS of history museums, the market, downtown things, the wonderful beaches (my favorite is Isle of Palms). There is ALWAYS a fantastic restaurant to eat at. Some of my all time favorites is Hyman’s Seafood, Amen Street Raw Bar, and RB’s in Shem creek. Have the best time while you’re in SC!!!

Looks like a heel spur. My best friend had them on both her feet from wearing flats all the time. She had to have surgery and wear a boot on one foot for a while.

Hello, Taralynn!
My name is Nastya. I`m from Lithuania, but now I live in Ukraine and before l had lived in Russia. I moved to Ukrain with my boyfriend, and after university we want to move to Canada or USA. But I write to you not for my story. In Russia and Ukrain many people love you, but they can`t read your blog, because they are don`t know English. Before I had this problem too. And now, of course, my English not very well, but I can read your blog without help of different programs, such as transletor. I follow your blog almost from the beginning. Every morning, I had tea or coffee and was reading your blog. To me very hard try to make your recipes, because we don`t have half of those products that you have and it really upsets me. But I try. I also read every day all your other pages and networks. And recently to me came up the idea to create a group dedicated to your in social network – http://vk.com. I want to translate into Russian your story, and try to translate your recipes for other people. Because there is a lot of your fans. And I do not know, would you like it, but it would be great if you took part in this project. And so you could have expand a circle of your followers. Overall, I wanted to ask your permission to this idea. And know your opinion. Will be waiting for your answer.
with love,
Nastya

Hey Taralynn!
I’m so excited to hear that you’re coming to sc! Hopefully charleston! There’s so many fun things here. You can do the typical hymans, grill 229, fine dining or you can visit the local favorites such as tabullis on market street which is an amazing Mediterranean grill and hookah bar, you can visit theatre 99 for a late night comedy show, watch baseball games at the river dogs stadium, or just lay by folly beach all day! Those are just some local things, the older generation and also tourists will tell you other things that are NOT fun, just what everyone googles and visits here ha. If you have any questions let me know!

Started following you today. Related very much to your story from back when I was school and college, right down to the abusive boyfriend. What an inspiration! I am working on losing weight and think you are the perfect approach. Even in pregnancy, I did not look at the scale and do not believe in the numbers anymore. I go by how I feel and how my clothes fit.
Especially loved what you said in this entry about mornings! I have learned to love mornings as well. I love watching the sun come up (sometimes) and enjoying that cup of coffee before everyone wakes up. Definitely my favorite time of day 🙂 Enjoy!
