My body needs to catch up with my brain this morning. After my morning dog walks, I sat down with a cup of coffee and my planner. I started filling in some ideas and creating a new schedule for spring. I came up with so many fun ideas, and now I just want to accomplish all of them, like now! Obviously, that’s not realistic. Maybe you can relate to this. Have you ever wanted to do so many things in one day that you get so overwhelmed and end up doing absolutely nothing? I’ve done that before (like weekly), and that’s why I find it helpful to write “to-do lists,” and schedule out my projects each day. Otherwise, I just stand there like a lost puppy. I do the same when I go to the grocery store without a list. Moral of the story, make “to-do” lists.
One more thing before I dive deep into another weekly recap post.
I read a pretty interesting article by another blogger last week, and it had me thinking. I read that blogging recaps and “day in the life” types of posts are pretty much dead, and that to be a successful blogger you need strictly evergreen content shot with professional cameras. I’m not going to disagree with this statement fully, but I do think that if you take out the “fun” and “personal” posts, then you lose the connection you built with your readers and yourself as a blogger. Connecting with people on my recap posts brings me the most joy in blogging. I’m naturally introverted, but I never feel alone when I hop on to talk to people.
I started blogging before the internet became oversaturated, so I’ve seen the whole blogging world evolve. And it’s inspiring and exciting to witness! The one thing I’ve always told myself during this is that I will not crack under “blog perfection” or steer away from what this blog is all about. When I say “blog perfection” I mean the blogs where every photo is staged, shot with a professional camera, photographer, and so thought out that it takes months to write. (and hats off to the bloggers that do create that type of content, because it’s not easy, and so much effort is put into it.) That isn’t natural for me, and it’s not how I’ve built myself as a blogger. I’ve had people ask why I haven’t hired a team to work with me or write with me. Honestly, because I enjoy this, and it’s “Simply Taralynn.” Not “Simply Taralynn and the five interns she hired to write her posts for her.” It makes me cringe when I see successful bloggers use ghostwriters. And honestly? You guys would be like “Taralynn didn’t write this” after the first five sentences. I just don’t want to ever come to that. I could probably make a lot more money if I gave up the work and handed it to someone else, but I don’t want that. I want my photos and words to be a reflection of me, taken with the iPhone, with lots of comas in the wrong places, and overusing words. It’s just who I am. There is enough blog perfection out there already, and I don’t need to contribute to it. I’ve never even hired a single person to design my blog and make it a professional space. And if you think spending thousands on a blog design is going to make your blog succeed, that’s not true. It’s the content that people are connected to. My recap posts bring me so much joy, and if that makes me an “out of date” blogger, then so be it. And with me, you don’t have to #likeittoknowit, just ask and I’ll tell you where I got it.
This blog is about my lifestyle, my journey, my life, and I love connecting with readers on a real level. I would hate blogging if I couldn’t take the time to share my life, exciting experiences, and the weekly blog my recaps. Those are the most fun for me. And I think discontinuing a part of your blog that makes it fun because it doesn’t make you as much money is ungenuine (is that word?). So, I guess what I’m trying to say here is that you need to stick to your roots! Don’t read an article on the internet and let yourself get let down or caught up in it. If something makes you happy, or you’re succeeding at it, keep doing it. If you’re a blogger or a new blogger, do you. Don’t read articles on things that are “dead.” Half of the clothes in my closet are “dead,” but I’m still going to wear them. Doing the evergreen content, and sponsored posts with companies I love is fun too, and that is what allows me to keep posting the other stuff that I enjoy. If my blog was filled with only evergreen recipes, workouts, and sponsored posts, would you find yourself visiting as often? Honest question.
I know that was a lot, but it’s been something I’ve wanted to get off my chest for a while. You know what is a bit silly? Sometimes I get anxiety after publishing my thoughts. I get so nervous for the mean responses that follow. This is my blog, and I have to remember that I have the right to speak my mind (even if it’s not a popular opinion.)
After finishing up my recap post last Tuesday, I headed to the grocery store to grab some staples and ingredients to make recipes for the week. I had the Whole Food’s Granola bar recipe on my mind, and I’m still enjoying them!
When I got home, I did four miles with the dogs (together this time) around the neighborhood. The boys have been making extrememe progress to the point where I feel comfortable enough to walk them together now. It’s been amazing.
I threw a plate together for dinner (a typical dinner for me and I really need to change things up soon.) I had grilled chicken, sprouts, my go-to meal prep kale salad, a grilled turkey burger, and sweet potatoes.
I spent the rest of the night relaxing with tea and watching the second half of the Bachelor finale. I couldn’t believe Arie proposed at the end of the episode. The whole thing was awkward. But, I called it from day one that Becca would be the Bachelorette, and I’m pretty happy about it. She is super sweet and smart, and it’s going to be a good season.
I was up bright and early on Wednesday morning. It was time for me to retire my glasses and have an eye exam. I have to tell you guys something embarrassing. Want to know why you never see me in glasses on my blog? Well, (literally laughing out loud right now) I had them for nine years, broke them two years ago, and they’ve been taped together (like Chucky from Rugrats) for two years. I’ve just been making them work. I don’t know why I put off getting new glasses for so long, but they’ll be here next week. My priorities are just not in check.
When I got home, I got around to making the Whole Foods Granola bars from A Spicy Perspective, and they are spot on, out of this world, and so worth it! Check out that post here, and I promise these will not let you down.
The granola bars needed to chill for two hours in the fridge before slices, so it was the perfect time to grab lunch with Becca. This girl has been so busy lately, that I’m about to put her in handcuffs and make her slow down. But, she’s a boss woman, and I love seeing her succeed! It’s funny because now we literally have to pencil each other in. She checks her schedule to make sure she’s free, and I pretend to check mine.
Becaues I kidnapped her from work, we headed to Zoes kitchen, our favorte, for Greek salads. My salad had lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, chicken, and greek vinegrette. The salads are Zoe’s are always so fresh.
Oh, and one thing we did pencil in…our annual hike! (hike year one post here & hike year two post here) I’m honestly so excited.
When I got home from lunch, I decided to make a turkey and carrot chili with white beans to bring over for my parents. I kind of treat my parent’s the same way the Barefoot Contessa treats Jeffrey. They always get the aftermath, and I love getting their opinons. This recipe is so good and healthy to make and eat all week long. Check out the recipe here if you missed it.
If there is one thing I’m loving lately, it’s the Healthade Kombucha. It’s sooooooooooooooooooo good, and I like that it has a lot less sugar than the other brands. I’ve been drinking one a day. I love all the flavors, especially the Cayenne Cleanse. I’m going to the store today to restock!
I took the dogs over to my parent’s house on Wednesday night so we could all enjoy chili together, and my mom and I went out on a super long dog walk.
I headed home early on Thursday morning so I could work in my office and get some stuff done. I’ve been doing a lot of video content and podcast work that’ll be out this summer! Speaking of podcasts, I’m really excited about this new venture. One thing you might not know about me is that I love to talk and I hate awkward silences. I think it’s going to be a good one. I’m actually having my parent’s on my podcasts. I’m going to take 20 questions from readers to ask them. My paren’t are pretty funny, so I’m a little nervous about what they’ll share. You can leave your questions for my parents in the comments, or email them to me!
Late Wednesday morning, I grilled up some tofu kebabs for me to eat throughout the week! They were soooooooooooooooooo good, and that recipe is coming soon! Grilling outside in my cat sleepers was a real treat.
I was going to head out for a run in the afternoon, so I chose to go with oats for lunch. I had (because I’m lazy microwaved) oats topped with one tablespoon of almond butter, one tsp honey, one tablespoon walnuts, and 2 tbsps dried cranberries on top.
I chose not to run my neighborhood this time because the hills are always discouraging. I drove to a nearby neighborhood with barely any hills, and it was much easier! I need to step up my game when it gets warmer and run more than once a week. This once a week thing isn’t allowing any progress, but it’s all I feel like doing right now. I walk about six miles a day as my workout, and I’m OK with that for now.
I had been waiting for my Daily Harvest to arrive all week. After seeing people post about it, I was so so so so excited! But, now I’m having serious trust issues. You all know that I love kale, vegetables, fruits, smoothies, and weird things like wheatgrass and cayenne shots. So my tastebuds have a wide variety of interests.
I tried the first smoothie. It was a apple + greens. I used coconut milk to make it thicker, and added it to the blender.
Verdict: it tasted freezer burnt, bland, icy, and had zero flavor other than kale. I had to add one scoop of vanilla protein powder and half a banana to give it flavor. After adding in the extras, it was tolerable. If I didn’t doctor it up, I would have thrown it out.
Opinion: Maybe they should add plant based protein powders to give them a smoother texture and more flavor. With the cost of these smoothies, it would be more worth it to have some kind of flavor or protein substance added.
On Thursday afternoon, I decided to try the chai.
Did they honestly add dates? Because it tastes like ice, water, and cinnamon. It was so bitter and flavorless. Again, I had to add honey, more cinnamon and nutmeg and splash of vanilla protein powder to make it tolerable.
I hope they read this and consider adding plant based protein or an option to have it added. And when you do make the smoothies, they don’t fill the cup. Even after I add in all the extras it still doesn’t reach the top.
Later in the evening, I took Grumples and Leo for a super long walk. I think we ended up walking about an hour and a half. I had a Podcast (so embarrassing...Betches) on and it kept me distracted.
For dinner, I had a kale salad with chicken, tofu kebabs, and sunflower seeds. I also had a la croix on the side. About two hours later, I had Halo Top for dessert.
On Friday morning, I spent the day editing and writing the granola bar posts while listening to more podcasts. The more I listen to, the more inspired I feel about starting one. My goal is to do a podcast each week to include at the end of my recap posts. But this is me saying this before I even try or understand how much time and effort it’s going to take.
For breakfast, I had an egg and tofu kebab scramble! I also mixed in spicy hummus, and it was really really good. And Kombucha on the side 😀
They were tired after our afternoon walk 🙂 I know I post a lot of photos of my dogs, but they are my life and I just think they’re so cute!
The oatly milk I mentioned in the last reap post came in, so I had to make an afternoon decaf latte! It was perfection 🙂 I’ve been treating myself to an afternoon cappuccino after lunch everday.
Oatly Milk
Nespresso and Milk Frother Machine
Now, the good news! I don’t just walk a lot for my own benefit. I walk to exercise my dogs and keep them healthy. My vet made it clear that Grumples needed to lose at least ten pounds when I visited last summer. I cut back his food to one cup in the morning and one cup at night (he gets training treats while we walk/or during the day.) We walk three times a day (one mile in the morning/afternoon/night), and he loves it. He gets so excited when I grab the leash. Well, Grumples lost ten pounds! I’m so proud! It’s really up to me to keep him healthy, and if I’m not walking him, or feeding him the right amount, then it’s my fault. I want him around for so long, and a healthy weight is very important. I usually cut back his miles on the weekends because he’ll play at the park, or I’ll make sure he takes it easy and rests. Dogs need rest days too. All of his other vitals were great, his shots are now up to date, and we were ready to roll!
Friday night dinner (forgot about lent….whooooops) but I had kale, chicken, tofu kebabs, pumpkin seeds, and a La Croix.
Kyle came over Friday night, but we were both in work mode. We sat across from each other on our laptops working and would give an occasional smile at each other. Leo was on my lap, and Grumples was next to him. What a life.
I tried out the banana and greens smoothie on Saturday morning. I wanted to see what Kyle thought to make sure I wasn’t going insane. But, this smoothie wasn’t as bad as the others because it had banana to add sweetness. But still, Kyle’s face when I had him try it was priceless. I ended up adding protein powder to this one. I refuse to even share my speical link and code with you because I don’t want you to make the same mistake as I did. I’m not going to be responsible for the outcome of your order 🙂 If these were free for me, I’d still dodge them like the plague.
It was a rainy one Saturday, so I took advantage of that and did a closet clean out. I got rid of clothes, swaped out some winter ones for summer ones, and hung all the laundry up.
For lunch, I had an everything bagel, tofu egg scramble with spicy hummus, white rice, and avocado on top! DELICIOUS! The bagel was the best part!
I spent the rest of Saturday laying in bed watching Fixer Upper and scouting places to stay in Oahu.
We headed to training on Sunday morning to work with the boys. We went back to the basics and worked on their walking skills and really sharpened up their bad behavior. They were very responsive and we left feeling very good about this whole process!
If you want to read more about our training progress, check out my previous recap posts. When we hit the six-month mark, I’ll be doing a separate post with a big roundup. We are taking our dogs to Holland K9 Services! Check them out if you’re in the Charlotte/or surrounding area.
It continued to rain on Sunday, so I was excited to hop back in bed and do the same thing as I did on Saturday. Sometimes it’s good to cozy up and do absolutely nothing (while doing something.)
While I was in the kitchen talking to Kyle, I had the urge to make muffins.
I always write down the ingredients just in case it turns into something, and surprisingly these muffins turned out to be one of the best muffin recipes I’ve ever made. I’m actually so exicted to share the recipe with you!
I had planned on doing a post on Sunday night, but my parent’s stopped over to see us, and I was just too exhausted to get it done. I was more refreshed on Monday morning.
I couldnt’ let the rest of the Daily Harvest go to waste. I put the chia parfait in the fridge on Sunday night for a Monday morning breakfast.
This one wasn’t terrible. It just needed some honey. And for bing 460 calories with 60 grams of carbs, the 12g protein count was a let down. They should really consider adding a plant-based protein source to their items. It won’t leave you very full.
This one I could tolerate. I’ve been using it as a snack and eating it randomly throughout the day with protein powder mixed in.
I had a real breakfast later in the morning! Scrambled eggs with tofu kebabs and ginger lemon tea.
Now this is filling.
My little work buddy.
I was excited to try out the soup. I heard another blogger raving about it.
But this, this recipe right here did it for me. I headed to the website and canceled all of my orders. Unfortunately, I didn’t do it in time for the next shipment coming on Thursday (luckily, they’re all smoothies that can have protein added to them.) but this soup was pitiful and tasted like swamp water. I’d rather eat canned soup from the dollar store. Actually, that would taste much better than this. I felt bad, but this soup deserved a spot right down my food disposol.
This is just a waste of money, and I just think it’s better if you make your own smoothies, add them to a baggy in the freezer and DIY it yourself.
I was excited to try because when browsing their Instagram, there were no bad reviews. I’m actually thinking I’m insane. I did a little research and found this page, so that makes me feel a little better about it.
I spent the evening watching American Idol and putting this post together so I could write in the morning.
My dinner was so good! (thanks for the good background patio rug!)
I had tossed kale salad with grilled chicken, pears, avocado, a bagel, and green goddess dressing on top.
Just nope ^
Questions for you!
- Would you like to see less weekly recaps?
- Have you tried Daily Harvest? (would you like to see becca and i do a youtube taste test of the smoothies)
- What is one thing you’ve been putting off for a while?
P.S…I totally forgot to mention something really fun and exciting.

Just going on your thoughts, I know people say recaps are dead and personal blogs are dying but as a reader those are my favorite. It’s been part of why I’ve struggled as a blogger because I think they are the most fun to write and the best to look back on. Keep writing them and mix in the other content, I agree, it keeps the connection there!
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree fully!
I don’t want anyone to steer away or get discouraged to keep doing what they love! Blogging is about blogging, and you can call this a diary, but I love it. I love that connection and I think it’s important for people to do what they want 🙂 I love reading and following the lives of others too.
Thank you for your kind words!

Hello,
Do not change a thing!!! I love your recap posts and I love that you are honest and share the ups and downs of your life. There is too much superficial content out there. You are genuine and REAL. It saddens me that bloggers are moving towards appearing perfect. Trying to attain perfection is not realistic and I think it sends the wrong message. Life is beautiful, but it is also maddening, quirky, frustrating, and unpredictable. Keep on being you.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Lisa!!
So sweet! <3

Personally, I love the weekly recaps! I get so much inspiration from them and I adore your colorful photos. I think the recap posts set you apart from the other blogs I’ve read. I’d honestly be disappointed if I saw less of them!
I also love the podcast idea. My favorite podcast right now is Grape Therapy with Kaitlyn Bristowe from the Bachelorette. She’s hilarious!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Rachel! I love that type of feedback.
Hahahahaha I have been listening to it too! Her laugh gets me every time. She’s adorable!
Lauren says
I LOVE your recap posts. Maybe I’m lame, but I like reading about other people’s day to day lives. Makes me feel less boring and helps me to not get wrapped in all the Instagram perfection you see everywhere nowadays. Sometimes it’s nice to know that we’re all just normal people going about our daily lives and sometimes nothing exciting happens, and that’s ok. You keep doing you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Lauren!
Not lame at all. I love it, and that’s why I also love watching people’s insta stories! But, yes, you can’t get wrapped up in that lol.
Thank you for the kind words! I honestly appreciate it.
Taralynn

1. I love your weekly recaps! They are my favorite part of the blog. I’m with you- just because some other bloggers have it in their heads that weekly recap posts are a thing of the past doesn’t mean they’re correct. Blog perfection as you say is pretty, Stepford-esque, and appealing on Instagram at times but I don’t find myself returning to their blogs time after time because they lack authenticity. I simply cannot relate to them. Flaws are what make us human.
2. I am happy to say I have never tried Daily Harvest and I certainly don’t plan to anytime soon ha! Seeing you catalog your cringe-worthy experience with them was hilarious 🙂 The apple + greens looked the most questionable.
3. I have been putting off cleaning out my pantry. I’m sure there are a lot of items in there that I won’t get around to eating or are expired due to extreme disorganization. But alas, I have more pressing chores to attend to on a daily basis.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Avalon!
Thank you so much! I agree with you on a lot of those points. I tend to read blogs that have little followers because they are posting real-life and relatable content that I truly enjoy. I love to add brightness and saturation to my photos, but they are rarely staged. I may set it on the rug to get a better background, but you bet your but im actually eating it lol I love the blogs with flaws! And luckily there are a lot of them out there!!
lol try it at your own risk is now my disclaimer.
lol oh girl…. me too!!!!!

Please don’t take away your recap posts!! They’re the best!! Honestly you’re my favourite blogger BECAUSE you aren’t overly stylized…I’m not lying when I say I check your blog everyday and get excited when I see a new post. Please don’t change a thing? I feel like I’m catching up with a friend whenever I come here…the professional writers/staged photoshoots/sponsored posts about skinny tea and sugar bear gummies are so boring to me lol.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Patricia! That just made my day!
You put a smile on my face 😀

Your recaps are the best! I get so tired of people who only blog recipes/how tos/fitness advice and don’t have any personal touches or stories! I think that’s why your blog is one of my favorites!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I love all of those things too, but it’s fun to also share the personal stuff!
Ashley says
I have always been curious about the Daily Harvest smoothies, but very hesitant to actually purchase myself, and after reading this I never will. LoL! They sound terrible!
Also, I have been reading your blog since the beginning and I really appreciate your blogs authenticity. I don’t enjoy blogs that are picture perfect all of the time. My two favorite blogs do daily and weekly recaps (you and Janae @ Hungry Runner Girl). I enjoy the sponsored content as well but prefer the more personal and normal day to day stuff. You do you, girl!
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol if you do, do it at your own risk.
I started watching youtube videos on people trying them and I feel like they have to be joking! I just don’t get it. They’re tolerable when you add protein powder and extra sweetener.
I like Hungry Runner Girl! 🙂
And thank for the kind words!
xo

I really enjoy reading it as you have so many creative ideas.
Keep up the good work!

I look forward to your weekly recap posts! They’re honestly my favorite because it feels like I (& other readers) am able to connect with you on a personal level. Plus I just enjoy hearing everything you endure in a week, because most of the time I can relate!
Thanks for sharing as much as you do!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Ariel!
Thanks so much 🙂 I love that connection I have with readers and honestly it’s fun to get to know each and every one of you!
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Always appreciated,

I LOVE the recaps. Seriously, don’t stop/cut back on them! I get so much inspiration from them, and love that you seem so normal and are honest and down to earth, not like a lot of bloggers who act like they have perfect lives and only show the perfect moments.
Every Monday (now Tuesday) I am pumped to get to work and check for your recap haha!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kelly!
Keeping that in mind 🙂
I’m very normal, well (a little weird) lol I definitely don’t live a perfect life, a very happy one though! But it does have tough times and bumps along the way. That is just life 🙂 Hahaha I think I’m going to start migrating the posts to Tuesdays so I can write them on Mondays. That gives me my Sunday time to have to myself with Kyle! since we don’t see each other during the week. 🙂

Ive been following your blog a long time and your weekly recap posts are my favorite! Stay true to who you are!

I love weekly recaps. I completely disagree that blogs should be all evergreen. Those types of blogs are a snoozefest! Keep being you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Emily!!!!

I love your blog because everything isn’t staged. Those are so not fun for me to read AT ALL. Also I love how honest you were about the Daily Harvest products because I personally hate it when bloggers RAVE about it and then I get it and it tastes like swamp water….I feel like that’s so common now with healthier foods. Like when people try to pretend that cauliflower is just as good as rice. Nope, it’s not haha.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Emily!
Lol I don’t understand the raving part about DH! :/
oh and cauliflower is good when breaded/fried, and dipped in ranch! that’s all.
Emily says
Hey girl!
1- DONT ever stop your recap posts! I love your blog- it’s so honest and realistic. I like the grammatical errors and how you sometimes go on rants. That’s how real life is – not everything is perfect all of the time, and it’s nice to see how genuine your blog is and how genuine you are. Who cares if someone else says it’s dated!! I have followed you for a long time now and would hate to see you change based on someone else’s opinions. Stay true to you and keep up the recap posts!!!
2- I LOVE the Healthade Kombucha. I used to be a sucker for GTS, and I still love the lavender love and trilogy flavors… but Healthade has been my go to! Their lemon ginger is so good! But by the looks of it, you have way cooler flavors in charlotte than I do in pittsburgh! I’ll have to try the cayenne one!
3- I never ever heard of Daily Harvest and I don’t think I’ll be trying them anytime soon! Which, is another perk of your blog – you give your honest feedback on products you try to help not only them, but your readers as well!
4- I’ve been putting off reorganizing my basement – it’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate! My best friend is having a garage sale once the weather breaks so that’ll motivate me to de-clutter and down size! I can’t wait. I’m very OCD about organization, and although it’s not “messy,” I just feel like I have too much!!
Keep up your hard work and stay true to your blog- you make it fun to read and I always look forward to new posts! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Emily!
I won’t! 🙂 & I appreciate all your feedback!!
WOOOOO YES! It’s worth all the $$$ (healthade that is)
lol my garage is turning into a basement so I feel ya!
Thanks again!

I LOVE your weekly recap posts, they’re my favorite post every week. Please don’t stop!

Lol well thank you, Kayla!

I love your weekly recaps! I honestly look forward to reading them every Monday (or Tuesday haha). I would be sad if you started doing less of them. When I first started getting into reading blogs, I read yours and a couple others, but yours is the only one I’ve stuck with reading simply because it’s more relatable and your posts have remained consistent in content throughout the years. The other bloggers I followed just aren’t relatable anymore and I feel like I don’t even really ‘know’ them anymore because it’s always just like fluff and sponsored posts filling up their blogs. So thank you for being so consistent and awesome!
I’ve never tried Daily Harvest or even heard of them until now, but I definitely won’t be trying it now haha!
I have 2 things I’ve been putting off-first is filing taxes..which I’ll actually be doing tomorrow, and second is picking my wedding dress up from the cleaners. It’s out of the way and open weird hours so I just keep putting off going there…but it’s going on 3 months since it’s been done so I really need to go get it hahah
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much!
They’ve definitely migrated to Tuesdays! 🙂 lol Just gives me more time to hang out and relax on Sunday nights since they take so long to edit and write! I feel more refreshed to do it on Monday. Great way to start the week!
Sponsored posts are great and I love working with companies I believe in, but I couldn’t imagine that being the only content produced!
I always put taxes off until like the last week haha but I organize for them all year round! It’s tricky as a blogger.
Rebecca Forney says
I love weekly recaps on blog posts and especially yours! I look forward to your weekly recap posts every week and always enjoy seeing what you and the dogs are up to! I think whatever works for you and your blog, you should definitely keep doing. I think your recaps and the pictures that you took on your iPhone make it more personal and relatable! I’ve never tried Daily Harvest but I have seen a lot of people on Instagram trying them out and I had never heard bad reviews too but am usually pretty skeptical about pre-portion/prepared smoothies. I’d rather throw in my own ingredients and have flavors I know I like. I have always been curious about their chia seed parfaits and the overnight oats but I think I’ll stick to making my own! I’ve definitely been putting off spring cleaning! I just live in an apartment so not a ton of spaces but they get filled up and cluttered pretty quickly!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much! & definitely just DIY those smoothies yourself! NOT WORTH IT! lol I know about cluttery spaces for sure!
Shannon says
Hi Tara!
I ran across your blog a few years ago and recently re-discovered it. I have really enjoyed catching up on your life and reading all of your weekly updates! I used to live in Charlotte too and I really miss it. I feel like they had the best food options and great breweries. Have you tried Lenny Boy Brewing? They make kombucha there- they’ll even make a kombucha mimosa if you feel so inclined 😉
I think you should keep up your weekly updates. I enjoy your positivity and it gives me good ideas for meals throughout the week. One thing I’ve been putting off is getting back into a healthy lifestyle- both food and exercise. Your blog has really helped me see I can create a lifestyle and not just a diet. Please don’t be discouraged by what other’s opinions as I find this very motivational and entertaining. I’m also trying to get into running after reading your blog about how you got into it. Thanks for all your posts!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Shannon!
Thank you so much and I’m so happy you re-found me again!
I have been to Lenny Boy for the Kombucha several times!:) I took Leo there last time!
Thank you for the kind words. The feedback is very helpful!

I’ve been reading your blog for 8 years and I always look forward to your recap posts, and there are no other blogs I really follow except yours so clearly you are doing something right! I know I’ve commented this before but in a weird way reading your posts feels like catching up with a good friend. And I like when you include stuff that’s on your mind too, it’s relatable. Way better than other bloggers out there who just pretend to have a perfect life.
Also so excited for your podcast!! Please put them on the podcast app so I can listen while I drive or exercise!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Sarah!
I can’t believe you’ve hung on this long! lol And has it been 8 years already? wow!
Even though blogs look “perfect” they are not. Those people are struggling too. Don’t we all struggle? I think so!
I appreciate the kind words and thank you for following all of these years and hanging in there with me! XO XO
I’m so so so excited to get going on this podcast! lol
Kirby says
I love your recap posts! I read the the other blogs you speak of and they do make me feel down because it is a sense of striving perfection in the most robotic unnatural way. You’re recap post I always look forward to and are my favorite because it is you and what you post is real! So thank you for that 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kirby!!!
Chandler says
Please don’t stop the recaps! They are my favorite!!! I love reading them & they’re actually quite inspirational! 🙂 have a wonderful week!
Taralynn McNitt says
Well thank you, Chandler!!
Charlee says
When I found your blog recently, I thought the recap posts were refreshing and different (aka better) from what other blogs are doing. LOL. They definitely make it feel more personal and genuine! Please don’t cut back on pictures of the dogs. They are adorable and I love reading about your adventures with them. Photography tips would be great. I am terrible and yours always look beautiful.
Keep on doing what you love!
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow, thank you! It’s honestly refreshing to hear that.
And I think I can make more dog photos happen! haha
I’m honestly “winging” it in the photography category. I plan to get better and hope to bring you all along on the journey and continue to share what I learn!
Thank you for brightening up my afternoon!
Taralynn
Samantha says
Don’t stop your weekly re-caps! Those posts keep you human and help us relate to you! I hate when I’ve been following a blog and/or discover a blog and they start to seem like a perfect robot overtime. I like when bloggers share their struggles as well as their successes. It helps your readers know they aren’t alone with the things we deal with and that it’s okay for us to not be perfect all the time.
On that note, THANK YOU for not going forward with the Daily Harvest “special discount” link. It reinforces our trust in you and the products you recommend. That’s always a thought that crosses my mind when reading any blog, “Did they REALLY like that stuff, or are they just suggesting it because they can offer us a discount, etc?”
Thank you for being real!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Samantha!
I appreciate it 🙂 It’s definitely ok to NOT be perfect (ever.)
Hahaha I feel like I every time I see a positive review for Daily harvest, a special discount link follows and then it all makes sense. I normally LOVE new products, but this one was a big fail.
xo xo xo thank you for reading and taking the time out of your day to comment!
Lauren says
Please don’t post less day in the life posts! They are my favorite! Also don’t apologize for all the dog pics! I love them! 🙂 I haven’t tried Daily Harvest, but I’ve seen it on others blogs. I’m glad you are being honest about it.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Lauren!
You can certainly try them out, but do it at your own risk haha!
Lol glad you love them. I can get carried away with them sometimes 🙂
debbie in alaska says
The blogs I tend to follow on a regular basis are the one who post personal content. I want to read about things that make me connect to the blogger on a human level — I don’t really care about recipes, sponsored content, what have you — so yes to recap posts about your life and more personal posts as you feel inspired to write them. Just like in life – I prefer connecting on a more personal level.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Debbie!
I appreciate your feedback and definitely relate to that!
xo
Jessica Brown says
I love your recaps! Please don’t ever stop them! Also, super glad I haven’t tried that. It’s the worst when you feel like you wasted all your money because of the hype of something! I was putting off buying new shoes and finally did. I have recommitted to never doing that again. My feet are loving me again!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Jessica!!
I wouldn’t say it was a waste of money. I took the plunge and shared my thoughts to save the rest of you! hahaha optimistic??
New shoes are important, especially if you’re on your feet all the time!
Krista says
I love your weekly recaps! One of my favorite things is seeing what other people eat to stay healthy, so I follow a lot of health bloggers on Instagram but love seeing yours through your blog too. I also like knowing that the posts are written by you, in your own voice instead of some random person.
One thing I’ve been putting off for a while has been making the trip out to Raleigh. I need to get some stuff done asap out there, but the drive is nuts– over 2 hours one way!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Krista!
I love doing that as well. I always feel inspired to try new things when I see others post about them! The social world can be a great thing if you filter it 🙂
Get a good podcast on, pack some snacks, a coffee, and get going! 🙂
xo
Brianna S Doherty says
I LOVE your weekly recap posts!!! Please do not change a thing!!
I am so happy you did a post on Daily Harvest. I have been looking into it because I see their products EVERYWHERE and everyone is just raving about it!! But I don’t know those people and I have been following your blog since the beginning and I definitely trust your opinion so THANK YOU for being honest about what you thought. Definitely not going to waste my time.
School….I graduated college in 2013 and have been putting off going to grad school for a long time now…well I’m still not going to grad school but I am going back to school to get my teaching certificate!!! Grad school will happen, this is just a step I want to take first.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Brianna!
Thank you! 😀 Apparently my recaps are here to stay!
In my opinion, I’d tell anyone who asked me about them to run, but others seem to love them so I don’t know what to think lol I’ll be doing a taste test on youtube next week with them!!
You got this girl!!!! <3 I’ve been putting it off too.
Linda @ the Fitty says
I agree with Brianna! I really love your weekly recap post and I really love the opportunity you bring to your blog in that not everything is staged! I have a friend that wants to become a blogger, and she was working hard on making every single picture staging everything, making her friends. There’s some Merit behind all that! But also unedited photos. I feel like that more often. I’m so glad that you and I connect on this level!
And speaking of podcast, I cannot wait until worth come out! I always listen to podcast while I’m multitasking.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Linda!
Moira says
Hi Taralynn! I agree with everyone above. The day in the life posts/recap/etc. are my favorite to read. A lot of the evergreen content I don’t read at all. Anne from Fannetastic Food had a good post about her feelings a few years ago:
https://www.fannetasticfood.com/thoughts-on-running-and-life/
As readers we can tell when you are really enjoying what you are writing about. Keep doing what makes you happy!
Sending good vibes from Buffalo!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Moira!
I totally agree with her post! 🙂
Taralynn!

Hi Taralynn,
I absolutely love reading your recaps and I love hearing your thoughts and perspectives! Your blog is unique because of your authenticity and spirit. Thank you so much for being so open with your readers 😄
Also, super excited for your podcast! ❤️
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Rosalie! That is so sweet of you! xo xo
Heather says
I love your recap posts! They are my favorite, the ones that have me rushing over to read when I see that you have a posted a new one. I loved your honest review in this one. It had me giggling! The smoothie’s and soup did not look appetizing at all! Also, was happy to see your tidbit on the future camera post. I have a nice camera and hardly know how to use it, LOL!And can’t wait for your podcast! I’m a big podcast fan!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Heather!
I’ve honestly just jumped on the podcast train. I listened to my first one like two months ago….wuuuhhh.
I am excited to do them! 😀
I am looking forward to doing the photography post as I learn more. I feel like I’m on a different level than the big guys so hopefully beginners can relate with me! 😀
Sarah says
I love the relational part of your blog! I go to others bloggers for the lack of relationship and only the business part (clothes, make-up etc), but your weekly recap posts are my favorite! You are so personal and get honest with your followers. I appreciate that so much! Please don’t change that. You’ve got it going well!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Sarah! I agree about those blogs for inspo too! Hello….GALMEETSGLAM is my fave!! 😀
Kate says
Please never stop your recap blogs! Honestly, your blog is the only bog I read religiously! I love it.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kate! That really means a lot to me!
Seems like I won’t be cutting back on recap posts anytime soon!
Melodie says
Lovely Taralynn, you’re honestly the only blog I go to several times a week, and look forward to reading when life gets overwhelming for a boost of honesty, simplicity and inspiration to better myself.
I follow a lot of amazing bloggers on social media, yet never have the patience or desire to go on to their blogs, exactly for the reasons you mention, I don׳t feel any kind of real connexion.
You doing you and being yourself and sharing the little things about your day is exactly the reason why I’m such an avid reader for years.
Keep making us smile 🙂
Lots of love,
Mel
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow, thank you, Melodie! (you have a beautiful name)
I appreciate that feedback and now feel inspired to keep being ME.
Thanks for all the love,
have a great day!

i’ve been thinking about this so much lately – i see it with instagram/blogging and it seems like everyone is just taking the fun/personality out of things!! i never want to blog about something that doesn’t make ME happy, even if it gets me money or more followers or whatever. i always love your personal posts, the recaps, the thoughts and reading them makes me feel like i know you better. i don’t know if my readers feel the same, but i’ll continue writing about me and my life because i enjoy it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jordan!
You’re right. You’re sooooo spot on, and it’s like the elephant in the room that is all in our heads. I don’t like the whole competitive side of the blog perfection, and I’d rather just be boring and talk about random stuff. I don’t have the energy to keep up! It’s exhausting lol I have the energy to write about what I love 🙂
I bet your readers feel the same! Stick to what you know, what you love, and what keeps you doing it every day! The connection is the most important part.
Melissa Sutton says
1. Please never stop doing their daily recap. You are the only blogger I follow religiously. I learn a lot of neat ideas from your recap posts.
2. Thank you so much for your HONEST review of this company. I love smoothies but was hesitating because of the price so I’m thankful you shared the truth!
3. As a busy working mom, I’m sure I’m putting off something….but I don’t remember! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Melissa!
Wow, thank you! 🙂 Means so much.
Even if they were free, I’d never waste my drinking calories on them, or soup calories, Maybe they sent me an old box, but gross. Unfortunately, I have another box on the way lol I’m thinking about doing a taste test on youtube!
Lol well if you can’t remember, you must be on top of it all! xo POWER TO YOU!
XO
Tara @ Run and Live Happy says
I’m excited about your photography posts! I want to get a hood camera but have no idea what to get or what I need to go with it and it’s a little overwhelming. And, I agree completely with your thoughts on your weekly recaps. If you’re writing a personal blog, the point is to be personal and connect with people. How can you do that if you are strictly business? I love reading your weekly recaps! And that’s my favorite part of my blog too! I’m not stopping them even if people do think they’re dead!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Tara!
The camera options are honestly the hardest part! I spent two years deciding and it’s definitely not something to jump into!
I love your recaps too! 🙂 I feel like I am always relating and agreeing with everything you write!
Honestly, they are NOT dead haha!

You should totally use the Woof Trax app if you walk your dogs so often! All you do is turn it on while you’re walking and it raises funds for the animal org. you choose. http://www.wooftrax.com/
Taralynn McNitt says
What a great idea! Thank you!
Maggie Carnahan says
Hi Taralyn,
Thank you for your candidness on this post today. I want to encourage you to keep being YOU and sharing in your own way. I’ve been reading your blog since the beginning; we are the same age so I’ve always felt connected to you and your blog. I remember reading your original weight loss story and being so inspired. As I’ve aged, I’ve explored other blogs but have always come back to yours Out of all your posts, your weekly recaps are by far my favorite. Sharing the little things in your life that make you happy (hot tea and lemon, walking your dogs) has encouraged me to do the same and find the same joy in those activities. You make maintaining a healthy lifestyle look so achievable. I truly appreciate your transparency; other bloggers should be modeling themselves after your aesthetic, not the other way around. Keep doing what you’re doing, girl!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Maggie!
I appreciate your kind words! Taking your advice and running with it.
Time really goes by fast! Can’t believe it’s already been 8 years.
I love that you’re finding joy and relaxation with the small things as well 🙂
You just made my day!
Please stay in touch, Maggie!

Sarah Burton says
please don’t stop recap posts! they’re the posts i look forward to the most!! I love hearing about your life, the dogs, and it gives me ideas for food during the week! 🙂 Never let people tell you what you can/cannot do with your blog! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
I won’t! 🙂 I promise! 😀
THANK YOU!
Jenna says
1. I love your weekly recap posts so don’t stop those!
2. I haven’t even heard of Daily Harvest, but I’ll make sure to steer clear.
3. I have been putting off two things… 1 is getting new windshield wipers and the other is getting the dent in my car fixed. It’s super small and on the other side of the car… when we evacuated to GA from Hurricane Irma, I tried pulling into my friends garage and well, I didn’t make it….
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jenna!
1. Thank you! 🙂 Not going anywhere!
2. Lol, try it at your own risk 🙂
3. Sorry you had to deal with irma, but glad you’re safe!! I actually went a year without fixing my cracked windshield and i hear it from my dad like everyday haha
Rebecca says
I also adore your weekly recaps! I hate when everything is so over edited and sponsored ALL the time. Same with YouTube videos. I like when people are genuine and show glimpses of themselves in their real lives. Long time reader here- keep up the good work!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Rebecca!!!!
Alaina says
Don’t stop the recaps!!!!!!!!!! They are my favorite! The more you write on here, the better! You’re blog is by far my favorite out of the few I am faithful to, and it is a highlight to my day! Don’t change a thing! Thank you for writing! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Alaina!!! 🙂

I have been reading your blog since your Chicago days and the personality and openness of your blog keeps me visiting!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Melissa!!
Oh….the chicago days!

Thank you for your honesty re. DH. Please don’t stop your recaps! You’re the only blog I read weekly! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Jess!!!
Lauren says
I LOVE your recap posts! They inspire me to do all sorts of things! Sometimes I look at your adorable house and feel the urge to clean! Other times it makes me want to meal prep, or finally take the plunge to get a dog! Or it helps me remember that I don’t need to go to the gym or run if I don’t want to (after my half marathon this weekend that is!) and that’s ok! It’s nice to read about someone’s real life and not just see the perfect every once in a while moments we see from everyone on social media, and that it’s fine if all you want to do on Friday night is watch TV and cuddle up and not feel the need to have an “Instagramable look what I did!” kind of day. Please keep posting!
I’ve been putting off pants shopping. I hate it, I always go into a spiral of feeling bad about myself even though my head knows I’m healthy my ego always compares myself to what I looked like in high school. Stupid pants.
Also, do you listen to My Favorite Murder? Your interest in true crime makes me think you would like it! I’m obsessed!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Lauren!
Just know, my house is NOT clean all the time! haha
You’re going to kick butt at your half marathon! 😀
lol I never have an instagramable look, EVER! Like what is that even? haha
no….but I’m taking note!!!!
Lauren says
I hope you like it, they are a little crass (warning!), but soooooo funny!
Taralynn McNitt says
I think I can handle that 😀
Shelby says
Don’t ever stop doing your recap posts! I visit your blog for the inspiration and i get so many great meal ideas, even if it’s the simplest thing out there. You inspired me to run again,(ran a half last oct. and doing another in nashville in april) eat healthier and not be so hard on myself when i cant get that work out in. So, thank you! You keep on keepin on!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Shelby!!
Congrats on your half! 🙂 SO PROUD of you! They’re no joke lol

I followed you back in your tumblr days and just now rediscovered your blog! I’m so happy I did because your weekly recaps are my absolute favorite. I’ve become overwhelmed with following blogs that seems to be obsessed with taking dozens of supplements and following the latest health trends. It’s so refreshing to come across your simple and authentic lifestyle. Thank you for being you!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is so awesome!
Thank you for that 🙂 I’m all about the health trends for sure, but the ones that taste good! haha
xo xo
Kate says
I would like to see the weekly recaps live on 😊 I have been following your story since the tumblr days. Stay true to you girl

Thanks Kate 🙂

Noooo I look SO forward to your recaps! I think you’re absolutely right in the fact that that is how you connect with your readers.
I haven’t tried Daily Harvest annnnd I thank you as I will not be wasting my money on it ever haha.
I put off a lot of stuff. I’m like you in the fact that I don’t know WHY I haven’t made an appt or done the thing, but it just takes me forever to get around to it lol.
Also I love how into lists you are! My friends give me grief because I am so obsessed with list-making. If I don’t make a list, it will SURELY be forgotten though! Us girls have too many tabs open in our brains at all times haha 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Anna!
Connecting with readers is one of my favorite parts of the blog! It really is the best and for the bloggers that don’t, they’re missing out!
Don’t waste your money. DIY it yourself!
Lol sometimes I put off the easiest things and I don’t know why! Maybe it’s just having that control lol
Girl, I’m doing list for days over here! I make one every morning.
😀

I’m so glad you posted about the Daily Harvest! I thought I was the only one who thought it was disgusting.

Every time I see you clean out your closet I wish I lived closer so we could swap clothes, I love your style. haha 🙂 Also, as a young mom of 4 kiddos I don’t get out to shop much. As a reader of many years this is my first comment. I just wanted to say I appreciate all your posts, recipes and positive outlook. thank you!!

Your blog is the only one I come to when I need motivation or ideas! The originality inspires me to be a better, healthier me and my boyfriend and I love your recipes! We’ve been eating your chicken noodle soup this week since it’s finally raining in CA and I got so many ‘YUMS’ from him during dinner last night! Don’t change a thing!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Victoria!
I’m so glad you visit the blog 🙂 Glad I can build a platform for that!
I am so happy to hear about the chicken soup! I might just make that this week!

I’m with everyone else, your weekly recap posts are wonderful! Not only are they inspiring but they are so fun to read. I think sharing your life can be scary and overwhelming but it’s worth it because you connect with so many people. Thank for you always being honest and kind 🙂
Plus I think it’s so cool that you continue doing what you like but also try new things, can’t wait to see more photography and hear a podcast!
I’ve been putting off spring cleaning but finally tackled the kitchen today and it feels so good to be productive!
Also love each and every dog picture! 💙
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Amber!

More dog pics to come lol

I love the weekly recaps! Never stop 🙂
I really enjoyed the book review post, are you planning on doing more?
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes! lol just behind a bit…
**note to self** only ready books in your genre! haha

I second all of the ladies above who say please don’t stop the recaps! Blogs that are too artificial or posed bore me to tears, so I find your recaps SO refreshing. Honestly, especially when I’m in a funk, your posts energize me to live my life a little more like yours. I like how you’re striving to live your best life while also being true to yourself. If you feel like staying in and watching Dateline, you DO, because that’s what’s best for YOU at the moment.
On a more superficial note, you have the most lovely and inspiring home and style. It’s not contrived. It might be “basic” to some, but I feel like everyone is the same these days with their minimalist triangles and mid century chairs and macrame wall hangings and millennial pink everything. Someday, those trends will go out of style, but yours is CLASSIC and fresh and at times colorful. Please don’t ever decide to go the route that everyone else has gone style-wise and decor-wise. I know this has been a very impassioned tangent about something that seems trivial, but I just really love your clean classic space and don’t want you to go to the dark side!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you and I won’t! That just put a smile on my face knowing that my recap posts (even if they are boring lol) bring you out of your funk or give you a boost of energy! Hahahaha that is my life right now. I know I should be out being young, but Dateline and popcorn is so much better!!! hahaha
Thank you!! I love farmhouse and cozy! That is my style!!:D And my dad and I build most of it!
Katrina says
THANK YOU! If I could have inserted the praying hands emoji a thousand times I would. I think I speak for a majority of your readers when I say please don’t change a damn thing about how you blog. I have seen a hundred of health/fitness people on instagram and youtube that change their postings and use their platform to build revenue and it makes them less relate able. I think being transparent, real, and human is what keeps people interested, perfection is boring and a little frustrating to constantly see! I am so thankful you haven’t become like the others who constantly promote high end brands, wear expensive shoes that most of us can never afford, and post pictures that are so perfect it is sickening!
Sorry, I just went on a rant but I have been seeing that so much lately and it’s just so refreshing to come back to your page and see authenticity. Your blog represents how all blogs should be – inspiring. Keep doing you girl 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Katrina!!
**SMILING BIG RIGHT NOW*** lol I’m always going to be just ME, and it may be boring, basic, and simple, but hey that is ME!:) lol I do love colorful things and that is what makes me happy. WAY HAPPIER than expensive shoes. It’s the little things in life!! Coffee in the morning, dog walks in the afternoon, and a good dessert to top off the day!
I love rants…obviously ^^^^ hahaha
thanks again, Katrina! Have an awesome week!
Lina says
So glad I never went through with purchasing Daily Harvest now!
Awe yay, looking forward to what you will share about photography. It was a requirement in my degree to take a photography class and it was so helpful. If I remember from your New Years Resolution post you mentioned going back to school (or something similar). Would you consider going back to school for photography? Or even take some courses specific in that? You have that awesome option of doing so with being your own Boss Lady (woo!) and a much more flexible schedule.
And please continue the daily recaps! It’s nice to relate to people, especially on the health front. If there is ever a chance you’d speak more about your recovery I’m sure I’m not the only one who would relate. 🙂 Thank you!
Taralynn McNitt says
I’m glad too, Lina!!
I have considered doing some online courses and e-course, but never school for photography. I’d do something different 🙂
I will eventually! 🙂 Trying to write it in a non-triggering way to people and it’s hard!
Zey says
Ummmmmmm don’t you EVER stop doing your weekly recap posts. I look forward to them so much! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
thanks Zey 🙂
Natalija says
Would you like to see less weekly recaps?Definitely NO! I love your weekly recaps and I’m always looking forward to them! I also absolutely agree in regards to those polished blogs with professional photographers and other “crew” behind-makes me yawn even talking about it. I love your blog because it’s real, it’s something I can relate to. And I really appreciate and value your honesty.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Natalija!
Thank you so much! I love looking at the photos on those blogs, but I don’t want to turn my blog into that lol There really is NOTHING wrong with them at all, it’s just not me and I’d be sad if I was forced to do that. Actually, I’d go back to the 9-5 in a heartbeat before I had to do that lol
xo xo thanks for being so amazing!

Hope your coming week is awesome! Can’t wait to read about it 🙂

lol ill add that to the list!
I hope you have a great week! 😀

I love that your blog is simply you, and it’s YOUR platform. Your opportunity to say what you want to say and show off what you love. If you enjoy the recaps, then keep doing the recaps. If you ever stop enjoying it, then stop doing it. Life needs to be enjoyed.
And if it says anything, your blog is the only one that I actually follow. Yes, I use a lot of other blogs (hello, Pinterest!) but yours is the only one I actually type in the web address and check on intentionally.
Personally a lot of the advice for professional bloggers drives me crazy because they recommend doing so many things that, as a reader, drive me crazy. Ads, more ads, subscription sign ups that pop up before I’ve even seen any content. Especially when I’m on my phone, there’s so much stuff I can’t even see the post except for maybe a sentence at a time. (That turned into my own little rant there…)
I’ve never even heard of Daily Harvest. Sounds super disappointing!
I’ve been putting off finishing my t-shirt quilts. I had a TON of shirts from high school and sports and whatnot so I made some t-shirt quilts…well…started some. I really want to quilt them myself on my home machine, but I need to practice first. And I either don’t have time, or tell myself I don’t have time….I’m not sure which is the most honest way to say it. Lol
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Zoe!
You’re right. Life DOES need to be enjoyed and all the little things make it enjoyable 😀
Thank you for the kind words and bringing brightness to my day!
lol I love the rants. I’m also a ranter! haha
yup. suppppppper disappointing. All I can say is try it at your own risk.
Have you seen the companies that do it? Not sure what it costs. But actually, it’s way cooler if you do it yourself lol Maybe just do a couple pieces a night! Or block out a weekend for yourself!
Annette says
I absolutely love your recap posts! Please keep writing them, they are a refreshing change from many blogs out there!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Annette!
Ann says
Look forward to you’re posts, keep them coming, definitely not less of them! And, I appreciate you being true to yourself, that’s why I keep coming back…it’s not because of the special person you hired to talk for you or to take your personal photos. I like honesty and you are just that!
I can’t wait to try the turkey chili, yum!
And, I’m putting off my eye exam too, just one more thing that I don’t want to be responsible for…glasses!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Ann!!
lol go get that eye exam haha!

I can completely relate to wanting to accomplish All of the things All at once! I too am a list maker so I spread things out and actually get things done!
I find it crazy that ‘day in the life’ posts are ‘dead’, I love your blog because its real and honest and not ‘curated to be perfect’. If a blog I read becomes one that starts having all posed professional pictures and sponsored posts after too long I find myself unfollowing them or forgetting about them. Your blog is one I love to follow and never forget about because your real, and lets be honest your dogs are Adorable and your recipes Delicious!
I love your weekly recaps and find them inspiring! Seeing you out for a run or training with your dog has inspired me. After reading about your progress with your dogs behaviors I found a local trainer near me and have started working with her! My dog Moose and I have just started but Im seeing small improvements already!
I’m SO glad you tried Daily Harvest. I had been seeing it around a lot but everyone I talked to had never tried it. Because of the price I was hesitant to jump in and order it, and after your review of it I think I’ll invest in a smoothie recipe book and quality ingredients instead!
I’ve been putting off booking some flights recently, I know I shouldn’t wait too long because they’ll only get more expensive! I booked the first one this morning… now just three more and I can stop putting it off!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Carly!
Lists make everything run a little smoother!
THANK YOU for the kind words and it’s readers like you that keep me here. I’ve enjoyed every comment you’ve left me throughout the years. When I see that you’ve commented, I feel like it’s a text from a friend. Is that weird? I just LOVE that connection I have the privilege of as a blogger. So THANK YOU!! for everything.
I’m SO SO SO happy you found a local trainer for moose (seriously always tell people about your dog’s name) You’ll be much less stressed! It’s so crucial.
DON’T ORDER IT hahaha DIY IT!!!!!
lol me too! seriously same thing as of this morning. Can’t put that off though! It gets pricier.
Again, thank you Carly!
Carly T says
…. text from a friend…. makes me fan girl for a moment 😛 You da best!
Taralynn McNitt says

Brittany says
LOVE this Taralynn 🙂 Please keep doing you! I have been reading your blog for 5 years now? I’m beginning to forget haha, but I think what keeps me coming back is your honesty and positivity. We need more of that in the world!
And more of a random question, how in the world do you keep Grumples and Leo’s hair from matting?? I have a St. Berdoodle and he is absolutely adorable but I’ve been struggling to keep his hair from matting (even with constant brushing). Any advice??
Taralynn McNitt says
WOW, thank you, Brittany! 5 years? jeeeeesh. but, thank you 🙂
lol it mats! I have to brush it a lot or cut the mats out myself! Keeping them groomed is pretty much he only solution. You can get a detangler for dogs and brush them out 🙂
Savannah says
I look forward to your weekly recap posts. They truly make my week. I have been following the longest out of anyone on social media. Etc. You coffee, dog, and food obsession is so relatable that I feel like I’m not the only one. Thanks for you being you. You inspired me to have a normal healthy relationship with food and actually got me motivated to running again. If I was to do a blog I would DO recaps. They look so fun and would be a great diary to look back on. Can’t wait for your next recap! Thanks for being you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Savannah!!
Coffee and dogs? Did we just become best friends lol
Getting back into running is tough and very discouraging when you can’t catch your breath lol Keep at it! I’m right there with you 🙂
Lindsay says
So glad you tried those smoothies so I don’t have to, haha! I’ve been thinking about getting them, but now will save my money. Appreciate your recap posts 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Save all that money, girl haha
Courtney McLain says
I love love love your recaps every week and look forward to reading them! They always inspire me! Do not change a thing girl! Also *side note* I live in Kannapolis, which is 20-30 minutes north of Charlotte! I love your section on the blog about your favorite places in Charlotte, especially favorite coffee shops! I love trying to find new coffee shops to try. My two best friends and I went to Sunflour Baking Co. this past week! It was such a cute place with good coffee and very good sweet treats! 🙂 I will definitely be trying the other coffee shops and places from your list!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Courtney!
Thank you!!!!! I need to make it to Kannapolis and venture out more around CLT!
AHHH LOVE the SBC and the people who work there! Hope you try out Cocao and the Director soon!
🙂 Speaking of…I need to update that page!
Kristin says
This post was absolutely amazing! Your blog is the only one I read consistently and a huge reason is your amazing recap posts!! So to question #1, NO! Never stop your recap posts!!
I love your honest review of daily harvest! Never heard of it, just looked it up and seems like a good concept but like you said very easy and cheap to DIY yourself!
I have been putting off getting a serious financial plan together to pay off debt, it’s so intimidating! Also have been thinking of starting a blog but also intimidated!
I can’t wait to listen to your podcast and see your photography posts!
Keep up the amazing and inspiring work you do!! 💜
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow!
Thank you, Kristin!
lol DIY for sure, and I may just do my own DIY post on them!
Maybe you can start a blog about putting a financial plan together? two birds one stone!
Thanks so much for the kindness! Excited for the new ventures!
Kristin says
Also other random comments!
congrats on all the training accomplishments and with Grumples weight loss!
I also need a list both for home and at work! Otherwise I’m the same, feel so overwhelmed and just stuck!
Please show us your new glasses when you get them!! Do you also wear contacts? I wore contacts primarily for years but have preferred glasses lately! But I do like the option of having both.
What do you think of American idol? I hadn’t watched for years but I like the new season a lot so far!
Your last daily harvest photo/comment: 😂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kristin!!
lol lists are LIFESAVERS!
I will share! 🙂 Can’t wait for them to get here! I sometimes wear contacts, but HATE them.
lol well I have a lot of thoughts! I think Luke Bryan is so hot, Lionel Richie has amazing and realistic advice, and I’m pretttttty sure Katy Perry is on something lol The talent is good (i have some favorites for sure), and some of the people they’re accepting are questionable and everyone is SUPER YOUNG this season lol Or maybe I’m getting old? But, I’m also watching the voice lol I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton!
lol don’t even get me started on DH. HAHA
Meghan says
Girl, you inspire me ALL THE TIME! If your posts weren’t REAL, I wouldn’t feel like any of the inspirational things you do were really achievable for me. I am a super overwhelmingly busy PhD student and I still make time for your blog once a week, because it’s a moment for me to just relax and read about all the things I really love – good, healthy food, positive relationship with exercise, crafts, clothes, etc. I’m also inspired when you get very real and address issues like exercise addiction, lady issues, etc. I truly feel like I’m on a journey with you because real women experience these issues (I certainly have!) and your self-exploration and motivation for self-improvement is something I can always relate to. Long story short, I would be very sad if these posts were no longer 100% genuine. Thanks for staying true to you!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Meghan!!!
I appreciate your kind words and the fact that you make time for my blog just makes me so happy! That inspires me to keep it up and stay on top of the posts!
Loved hearing your feedback and I hope to continue to bring you all of those topics! 🙂
xo xo xo xo xo
Rosanne says
Wow, if your blog were not honest and showing snippets of fun, and mostly the healthy food…I would stop reading. I read your blog for your recipes…that I e yet to try😕
Taralynn McNitt says
Keeping that in mind! Thank you, Rosanne!
Amanda says
Ha! See the reason I quit following a lot of other bloggers is because of all the sponsored, professional posts. I love recap posts and getting a day in the life of someone else. It’s one of the main reasons I read others blogs (that and recipe/workout ideas). If I can’t feel like I can connect with you in real life, then what is the point of reading it?
I would love to see you and Becca do a youtube review of Daily Harvest. I was just about to buy them too, but I saw on instagram that you were going to review them so I was waiting for your review before I made the decision. Guess I dodged that bullet and waste of money.
Taralynn McNitt says
I agree! I like that about other blogs as well!
lol we are going to do a taste review on youtube!! lol and it’ll be interesting!
Abby Glenn says
I love your weekly recap posts! Never stop! They are my fave. I get so much fitspo and love reading about your week! Xoxo
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Abby!
Katie says
Your posts are about the only blog posts I read all the way through even though I follow a good number of bloggers on instagram! I like that your posts have real substance about real life! I usually don’t read a blog post about a piece of clothing. I can see that on instagram. I much prefer recap/life catch up posts!
Taralynn McNitt says
Well, thank you, Katie!!!!
Melissa says
Love love love your recap posts! Please never stop. I’ve been reading since your tumblr days and always look forward to your posts! Thanks for always being you! Xoxo
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much Melissa!
Sarah says
Hi!! Your blog is super fun and informative! I have a note on my phone that I add to after reading your recaps of foods you recommend. It makes grocery shopping exciting. Also I look super trendy with my cart at checkout 🤣. I am currently obsessed with Little Northern Bakehouse bread. It makes my very restricted diet enjoyable so thank you!! I have been putting off my spring cleaning. I loooove it when it is complete but man it is a chore!!! Much love from Wisco 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Sarah!
That is so funny! That bread is great 🙂 I keep it in the freezer to make it last longer since I’m the only one eating it!
ugh cleaning! so not in the mood for it right now lol (BECAUSE IT’S COLD)
😀
Sarah says
Hey Taralynn! Thank you for being so honest about the smoothies, it’s so refreshing to see a blogger give a completely honest review! I love your weekly recaps, especially when I can read them while drinking coffee on a Saturday morning! I’m excited you’re getting in to podcasts, I was actually thinking today that you would be a great guest on the “Chasing Joy” Podcast by Georgie from in it 4 the long run blog. She is all about health and wellness for the mind body and spirit. Can’t wait for your podcast journey!
Taralynn McNitt says
I would be embarrassed if I told someone that they were good and they tried them and came back to me with a big “what the heck.” I think they’re trendy and a great idea, but they need to work on the taste! AND WHERES THE PROTEIN!! haha
I’ll have to check her podcast out! thanks for the recommendation! 😀
Kirilee says
Your recap posts are my favorite! I’ve been following your blog for about 3 years or so now and I look forward to your recaps each week. I’m in Australia and love seeing your photos of all the different places you explore, all the houses are quite different to ours and I just find it so interesting. Also love the pics and updates on your pups, so cute! Your writing and photography style is so fun, down to earth and very real, it’s what brings me back again and again because I just enjoy it all!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hey girl!
Thanks so much! 😀 Ahhhhh would love to visit Australia!
Thank you for the kind words 😀
Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says
I SO appreciate the honest review! It’s disappointingly hard to find those these days because everything is sponsored or people want to live that ‘insta life’. Nothing is worse than spending a whole bunch of money on something you think will be good, and then having it turn out like that haha.
Also, I was cracking up because you’ve got these gorgeous pics and then the caption is ‘just nope’ hahaha.
KEEP THE RECAPS. I’ve been reading your blog for idk how long, and I’ve ALWAYS loved them! The consistency and transparency of your blog is why so many people love it. You aren’t putting up a front or an image and we love it!
I’ve been putting off putting gas in my car haha. My life is a constant game of ‘how low is too low’ with my tank. Oh well, some thing will never change!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Susie!
I just had to put that out there because I have had a totally different experience with Daily Harvest! (so blehhhhhhhhh.) Just totally not worth the $$. Even if they sponsored me, I’d decline instantly lol
Hahaha great photos don’t always mean the product/food tastes good!!
I think after reading these comments from you all, the recaps are here to stay!
lol I do that too!!!! It’s such a hassle.
Niven says
Loved this post, and totally agree on the recap posts keeping things authentic! I work as a community manager for my 9-5 job, and being real and authentic is the only way people truly connect. So, you do you and forget the rest! I’ve been a follower of your blog for YEARS! and I like your weekly recaps! I also have a doodle which means I love all the dog photos 😊
P.s. – Love your sneakers in your photos! Where did you get them?
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much, Niven! (cool name btw!!!)
I appreciate the kind words and WOOOO for the doodles!! (I’m obsessed and clicking over to your link hoping its a blog with dog pics haha)
Here is the link to my Nikes! SUPER comfortable and I use them for walking!! Here is the link to the Nikes! (Nike Knit Shoes)

Love love love the recaps!! I’ve been following since you were on tumblr and always come back since you’re so positive and real!! Have a great week! xo
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Elizabeth!
Means so much!
Frida says
I love the weekly recaps! I think it’s fun with blogs that doesn’t struggle to try and be like all the others.
Can I ask what your opinion on calorie counting is? I’ve been trying to keep track so that I can lose some weight but it’s just so exhausting and frustrating. I’m thinking of skipping it and just try my best to make good options and work out more.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Frida!
Thank you 🙂
You know, calorie counting is kind of a waste. I used to be so absorbed in calorie counting and then it turned into a full-out eating disorder. I think listening to your body, paying attention to how many calories something has, and keeping track of protein is a bit better than just tracking calories. All of our bodies perform differently, and we need to listen to them instead of listening to the “calorie” count. It’ll just give you restriction and set you up for failure in the long run (imo) and I’ll be writing a bit about my experience with calorie counting on the blog soon. If I were you (and im not a professional) I would shoot for healthy option when you can, pay attention to what you’re eating but don’t track it, and listen to your body! Everything is better in moderation! Shoot for healthy and whole food like vegetables, fuits, nuts, lean protein, and treat yourself to the other stuff in moderation!
Katie says
I love love loveeee your blog posts and how you share personal stuff with all of us! I think these types are really fun 🙂 Seems like you were very productive lately I need to do a closet clean out ASAP! Also DEF do a taste test of the smoothies!!!
XO, Katie | http://www.meshkomoments.com
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Katie!
Thank you so much! The taste test is happening! 🙂
I’m still working on that closet clean out lol
Maryse says
Omg I know which embarassing podcast you are talking about and I LOVE IT. Glad to know I’m not alone ahahah! It’s the best honestly. I can’t wait to hear yours though!
Also I love the recap posts, so I don’t know what these people are talking about 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol it’s so bad and addicting! Good to listen to while working for sure! lol
I hope mine will be fun and entertaining. I’m doing it with a co-host, so of course it’ll be fun!
Gemy says
Don’t stop doing what you’re doing. I find evergreen posts or canned posts to be boring and actually don’t care to read them.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Gemy!
Kelly says
NOOOOO. I love your weekly recaps!! I think its so great that you do them. I feel like it helps your readers connect with you. Its more personal.
I hadn’t heard of Daily Harvest until you posted about it and I do not plan on trying it haha. It would be great to see you taste test the smoothies!
I’ve been putting off working out. Its so hard with work, my daugther and my dog, but your blog has inspired me to do more, even if its something as small as walking the dog for a longer period of time. You’ve also inspired me to try to train him better to relieve my own stress.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kelly!
We are totally going to taste test the smoothies!
I think going out for walks is the best! Take your dog and your daughter!:) Play some music or a podcast and just go!
Training is so crucial and my stress levels have plummeted since training and learning how to control them. I understand them better now.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
Jessica says
Your recap posts are exactly why I come back to your blog consistently! Please don’t ever stop writing them :). When I realized that I like your style of blogging, I tried to find other blogs like it, but I couldn’t really find any. Your recap posts are inspiring and real.
I hadn’t even heard of Daily Harvest until this post! I’m glad you tried it and gave an honest review.
I’ve been putting off a lot of things and I’m noticing that “procrastination” has been a theme in my life recently. I think it’s time for me to take a look at everything I’ve been putting off 🙂
Also, if you need any pointers on photography, feel free to reach out! I’ve been doing photography since high school and I’m getting back into it this year since I took a break for a few years. You do take beautiful photos though and I’ve seen your skills improve significantly over the years I’ve been following your blog 🙂 I’m looking forward to your beginner photography posts because it’s always good to review the basics and see how others are doing it.
Have a great week!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Jessica!
That means a lot! The recaps started happening naturally until they became the blog’s staple!
lol procrastination is my middle name most of the time.
Thanks so much! I will definitely reach out. I’ve been watching youtube tutorials on repeat!!
Anastasia says
Taralynn…your recap posts are one of the best parts of my week! I love them so much! Your lifestyle is so healthy, inspiring, and REAL! I am so glad you are staying true to who you are! Also, I CANNOT wait for your podcast! I love listening to podcasts when I take walks or drive in the car and I just know yours is going to be awesome. And… I cannot wait for your posts on photography. Girl, you are killin it lately! Your content has been AMAZING!
Ok..hahah random question now! Where on earth did you get those tennis shoes in your dog walk pics? I love them!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Anastasia!
Thanks so much 😀
I’m nervous and excited at the same time for the podcast, but it’ll be Becca and I so I HOPE we can keep it fun and appropriate haha!
& thank you! Honestly, I’ve just been adding more color/light to photos! It’s not the equipment at all, so I’m excited to see where I can go with it!!
Those are my Nikes and I’M OBSESSED!!! They are the most comfortable & padded shoes I have ever worn. I wear them on my dog walks!!

Hello !
First time for me leaving a comment under one of your article, but I’m following you for a while now !
I don”t want less weekly recaps, I LOVE weekly recaps ! I love your blog, what you do, what you write, and especially what you share with us ! The beginning of this article is great… Happy to see that even if your environment is changing (blog), you want to stay yourself and continue what you love.
For the Dairy Harvest, I’m glad you share what you really think about the product ! (it’s seems not really good btw) I’m from France, and I’m sure we don’t have this brand available here.
And to answer your last question, I’m always putting off exercice… But I’m really thinking about going back on trail for April ! I have so many recipes from your blog to try, can’t wait ! (sorry for any english mistakes)
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Charlotte!
Thanks for commenting!!
Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! 🙂 MUCH appreciated.
I always do long long walks so I don’t have to do any extreme exercises and it helps a lot! 😀
Your Engish is great! (i should apologize for mine haha)
sarah says
Best honest product review ever! Thanks for being genuine Taralynn!
Taralynn McNitt says
You’re welcome!!
Susie says
Your recap posts are my favorite! You may think they are boring, but they are inspiring and I always pick up great ideas from you, in fact the last salad I made had your name written all over it and my co-worker even asked me if it was a Taralynn salad, lol! I may have mentioned your blog a time or two…
Oh, and I see you brought up Lent. . . .do you give something up every year? I sacrificed coffee this year and it is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever given up. Just thought you would appreciate that 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much, Susie!
I think it’s so cute that your co-worker said that! 🙂 Made me smile!
I do!! I gave up ketchup! lol and you gave up coffee? WHAT! WHY! WHAT! lol I did cut back to one a day, but all together….never! You’re strong girl! God is going to give ou brownie points for that one! 😉
Nickie says
I’ve never commented before but I have been following for years and I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you. I am so thankful that you don’t compromise who you are or what you post or what you do because of what “other” bloggers are doing. I love your recap posts and I love your blog. I am willing to bet that the posts they say are “out” now will be “in” again in a matter of time lol. My favorite types of posts from any blogger are the ones where they are real and genuine. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re doing a great job and I will always be a reader.
Taralynn McNitt says
Wow, thank you, Nickie! That really really means a lot to me!
You are right about that, and one day Instagram WILL fade, and it’ll be about the blog again! lol (can i dream?) thank you for taking the time out of your day to comment and share your thoughts! means so much to me 🙂
Angela says
1. Please don’t stop recapping!!!! It is my fave thing about your blog. It really lets me see who is behind all of the other types of posts and makes me want to read your thoughts things, because I feel like I know you in a way. It makes your entire blog more relatable, even the parts that I don’t relate to. (That makes sense in my head!) Plus, I just enjoy your personality!!
2. No, but a few of my friends have and not one has enjoyed them. A youtube taste test video would be hilarious!
3. Spring cleaning and a closet clean out. BUT, I have a plan thanks to inspiration from your weekly recap blog posts.
Thanks for sharing your life with so many of us! I know I really enjoy your blog as is and have enjoyed watching you grow it into what it is today. Keep doing you!!!
Angela
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Angela!
Your comment just put a HUGE smile on my face!!!
A youtube taste test is happening!
lol I need to finish my spring cleaning for sure. It just got cold all of a sudden…
I hope you have a great week!
Hayley says
I love reading blogs, and from time to time I’ll look around to find new ones. Often, I find myself falling for those evergreen blogs, but I end up following them for like 2-3 weeks before I get really bored, really fast. I love the way you write and how genuine you are — your blog & pbfingers are the only two blogs I’ve followed for years (and don’t see myself ever stopping) because of how personal and genuine they feel. Definitely keep it up!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Hayley!
I appreciate the kind words! I’ve been on a couple trips with Julie (pbfingers) and I’m glad you read her blog! She’s as sweet and genuine as she comes off as on the blog! XO
THANK YOU!
Taralynn
Leslie says
You should definitely not change your recap posts! All of my favorite blogs are ones that still share a lot of personal info, and I get so disappointed when they stop doing that. I “follow” some blogs that just post recipes or other evergreen content, but I usually just bookmark it if it’s something I might want to make later and move on. I actually READ blogs that post personal stuff because I care to read about what they’re up to!
And THANKS for the Daily Harvest warning! I got a coupon code YESTERDAY and was planning to order some today.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Leslie!
I feel like I do the same. I also have some favorite blogs that is pure evergreen stuff for sure !:) & I appreciate your kind words!
DONT DO IT haha, or do it at your own risk.
Jordan says
I love your blog and your recap posts!
And thank you for talking more about the whole blogging process. You have inspired me and as a *new* blogger, I often wonder if people really care to read what I am writing about. But ultimately, I enjoy the process and the creativity it allows me. Be true to who you are and that’s when real connections form!
I have not tried Daily Harvest — and now don’t really plan to! Thank you for your honest opinion and I love that you aren’t just trying to “sell” something.
I have been putting off some Spring Cleaning around the house. It still feels like winter here in Wisconsin (boo!) but I am anxious to get outside and play in the dirt! I’m ready for sunny days, flip flops, and planting season.
I am SUPER excited to check out your photography posts — I always love your photos, so I’m eager to see the whole process and how you set-up/make your shots look so awesome!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jordan!
Thanks so much!!
It doesn’t matter about any of that stuff if you ENJOY what you’re doing. You keep doing it!! 🙂 They the creativity flow!
Don’t plan to. lol like seriously save yourself!!
Lol I am halfway done but it got cold and I just quit.
Thank you! It’s funny because I am NOT a photography-guru, but I aspire to be! I do LOVE photos, so I figured taking the leap and upgrading equipment will allow me to be better and better! I hope to do some fun shots for the house, and fun shots for tutorial posts for other beginners! And it’s not always about the equipment 🙂
Kasey says
I honestly can’t agree with you more! I ordered Daily Harvest for my kids and used another blogger’s special link for three free smoothies. My kids refused to drink them and I don’t blame them. They were bland, freezer burned, and the nutritional value is awful. I’d love to see you do a DIY post on the smoothies.
Taralynn McNitt says
Sorry you went through that! Hope your kids don’t think all healthy smoothies taste like that! lol
I think a DIY post like that could be fun!
Katie says
If I were you, I would not change a thing. As you stated in the post, you need to do you. Selfishly, I love your recap posts and look forward to them every week, along with everything else you post. You are honest, adore your dogs (who are absolutely adorable), love your family and friends and I love that you don’t try for perfection. I’m a perfectionist and I’m working on that and learning that it’s okay if something doesn’t go completely right or the way I expect it to. You are wonderful and as I said, keep doing you! <3
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Katie!
Your words mean a lot. I understand the perfectionism. I’ve been there, and it’s rough. Letting go is the best thing you can do, and I still struggle with that sometimes! Social media doesn’t help.
xo xo xo
Jackie says
I love your recap posts! I’ve been following your blog for a couple years now, but I’m mainly a lurker when it comes to the blogs I follow. And your blog is hands-down my favorite BECAUSE you are so real. I love looking at pretty, highly curated blogs, but really I love the bloggers who let their readers “get to know” them best.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Jackie!!
Thanks so much! 🙂 I honestly & genuinely feel honored hearing you say (type) that! Means so much!!!
Kara says
I look for new posts of yours everyday! Your recaps are my fav, they give me a nice little break when I’m at work.
I have two blogs I follow religiously and yours is one of them girl, I just can’t seem to find others that keep me coming back… So keep it up 🙂 Clearly you have a lot of support!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Kara!
Means a lot 😀
Charity says
Hey Taralynn! Keep doing what you’re doing but I thoroughly enjoy reading your recap posts every week. I would be lying if I said those type of articles get me down as well. I actually wound up taking a break from blogging because I kept comparing my blog to other “fancy” blogs. Maybe I’ll pick it up again… You kinda inspired me! 😉
Anyways, sorry if that came across as cheesy! Just felt like telling you that…Ha!
Loved the post as always!♥
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Charity!
I always appreciate your comments!
Pick it up again and stop comparing! 🙂 you got this! My middle name is cheesy!!
Charity says
I also totally just realized I didn’t spellcheck or re-read my comment before I posted it! Ha! (I guess that’s what you get for typing a comment and working/talking on the phone at the same time!) Whoops. Glad you could read through the mistakes! 😉
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha I do that all the time. Honestly, I didn’t notice the mistakes! ALLLLL good girl 😀
Shelby says
I love your recap posts! I look forward to them. It’s nice to read a blog that is so honest about everything!! Definitely keep doing them, they are my favorite posts to read.
I think a youtube review would be funny!
And I have been putting off finding a new job.
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Shelby!!
A youtube review is def happening!!!
I’ll keep you in my thoughts on the new job search! Take your time and find something/place/position that you love!
Kelsey Weissner says
Hi Taralynn! Please don’t ever stop doing your recap posts! I’ve never been one to follow blogs, but yours is so personal & relatable that I’ve been happily hooked for almost a year now 🙂 the fact that you interact with your audience so much is humbling in my opinion, so please don’t change a thing! We love you!
I’ve never tried Daily Harvest and I certainly don’t plan to, haha!
Something I’ve been putting off for a while is seeing friends! Things have felt so busy lately and I feel like I haven’t seen any of them in ages. I hope to reconnect with them soon. I’m introverted too and I have a handful of really close friends all from different groups, so sometimes it’s hard to see them all as frequently as I’d like. Time to make things happen!
I hope you have a great week 🙂 xo Kelsey
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Kelsey!!
Writing these recap posts take a lot of work and bring a ton of joy to my week, but it’s the interaction and chatting with readers that I enjoy the most! I know that when a recap post gets posted, I get to make coffee and chat with readers! Call me strange, but it’s fun.
I have been the same! Luckily, I have a ton of fun with friends coming up! It’s hard when you’re busy and even harder when you’re a bit introverted lol
Have a great week/weekend!

I read your blog because yes, the content does relate to me (exercise, healthy cooking/baking, etc.) but there are a TON of blogs that offer the same thing. I read your blog specifically because of the personal connection. I love that it’s you and not a robot! It’s refreshing. Kind of like drinking a La Croix. haha. I like your recap posts and it motivates me to get things done. I love that you respond to your readers here and on social media. Whoever wrote that article is only looking at it from one, narrow perspective.
*Side note: thank you for blogging about Daily Harvest!!! I was just looking into it a couple weeks ago and was so close to pulling the trigger. Glad I didn’t. Life is too short to waste on bad food.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Carly!
Thank you for the kind words! 🙂 Sometimes hearing what other think or getting their feedback is all the push you need to keep going. It’s so amazing to read all of these comments. I was getting discouraged, but I’m glad I just said something! And you had me laughing at the La Croix comparison! HAHA! But again, thank you so much!
So glad you didn’t haha!
Catie says
The Daily Harvest cups are so expensive! What a waste!
I have been putting off cleaning out my car. It’s a disaster!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha mine, too!!

Don’t ever stop the recaps! You do you, boo! 😉 I love reading about daily life and food choices. It makes the blogger more relatable and “real”. My favorite YouTube vlogger (Sarah’s Day) just does vlogs all about her day and what she does and she keeps it so real. Check her out if you need a vlog to watch!
I have been putting off getting a passport. I don’t know why I never did it, but I finally turned everything in last week! I’m unstoppable now, well once it comes in lol. The process was so easy I was mad at myself for not doing it earlier! I felt extra #adulting.
If you’re looking at Oahu, check out Aulani. It’s the Disney resort in Hawaii and it is truly magical, even traveling solo and without children. If you need help with research or quotes, I am a Disney travel agent (all things Disney including Orlando, California, and the cruise lines) and would be more than happy 🙂

Hey lady! First off, your blog is perfect the way it is! It is raw and honest, and so inspiring!
* I enjoy your weekly recaps so keep them up 😊
* A YouTube taste test of the smoothies would be awesome!!
* I’ve been putting off my Spring cleaning for a while now – and I have way too much stuff that I just really need/want to get rid of! I want to become more of a minimalist!

I feel super late to the game as there are so many supportive comments already, however I wanted to tell you that I have been following your blog for a few years now, and I found your thoughts so refreshing as I read this morning. I live in the same area that you do, and I love hearing your favorite places to eat, things to do and following your recipes. This is one of the only blogs that I will actually visit to read and I LOVED your comment about not having to #likeittoknowit. As I see more and more of those “perfect” blogs, I think to myself, what do they do with all of those clothes? Do they actually buy them when they are trying them on in the stores, or do they just post a link so you will buy them and they make money? The questions go on and on, but my point being that I think authenticity is so important, and I love that you are so down to earth and stay true to who you are. I have honestly purchased more things from your blog links because I feel like if you are endorsing it, you are actually using it and love it. Keep doing you. As you can see from all of those that commented before me, you are doing it right! 😉

I love reading your blog every week. I love your honesty about life. Some of the healthy, workout blogs, just keep me thinking that I can’t change things up. Where you make me think to myself, listen to my body and do movments that I truly enjoy to do. I love that you try to create new recipes in the kitchen, sometimes they turn out great, and we reap the benefits. Keep being you!!
I have to make more time for the things that I truly want to do and stop saying yes to everyone else. I’m a wife and mom and sometimes I feel like I get pulled to many ways.

I like the weekly recaps, but I also love the recipe and book posts too. I haven’t tried Daily Harvest but what a bummer that you weren’t a fan. I’ve seen some of the other RN’s that I work with have them in the morning, but i am lucky enough to have a juice bar and a Nekter that are on my way to work so I’ll usually just stop there. One thing I’ve been putting off… God there are so many tings I need to clean my bathroom, clean out my closet & car you name it I probably have to do it. I can’t wait to see what the photography posts! I have been interested for a while in taking photo’s mostly just for fun, and would love to know what kind of equipment you use and any tips 🙂
Madeline says
1.Would you like to see less weekly recaps? No! I really enjoy them.
2.Have you tried Daily Harvest? (would you like to see becca and i do a youtube taste test of the smoothies) Never tried them – will definitely not now. I’m more of a DIYer when it comes to cooking. I don’t pay for subscriptions because they generally cost more than doing it yourself/piecemeal and I love cooking/baking myself… except I may try Blue Apron because of your great reviews.
3.What is one thing you’ve been putting off for a while? Taxes. Ugh.
Orsi says
Oh Gosh please never stop the weekly recaps coming. You inspired me so much with these posts. I mentioned before that I am from Hungary but I live in the States now and you inspired me to share my stories and my family loves reading them because this is another way to keep in touch. I love that you are real and honest. I have been following your journey since your Dominican Republic press trip because I worked for the same advertising agency as AJ. 🙂 so I heard about your blog from the other interns that worked on that trip with AJ. Love the recaps! 🙂 But I blame you for my coffee addiction because you make coffee look so delicious that you got me hooked 😀 😀
Brittney Caughron says
I’ve been wanting to try Kombucha for such a long time, but I’m scared that I won’t like the taste of it. What are your favorite flavors?? Do all of them taste like vinegar? I want to try them, but I’m scared. lol Also, my favorite posts are recaps! Keep it up! 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Ew lol if they tasted like vinegar I’d never drink them haha!! They kind of taste like wine spritzers! Start with a fruity flavor first 🙂 I like the extreme flavors with cayenne/ginger/spirulina.
🙂
Cayse Wilson says
I read your blog because one, you are real and two, you have two doodles and I have one too 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Aw! Thanks, Cayse!
Yay for doodles!!

What happened to sharing your experiences w anxiety/depression etc..? These salad recaps are getting so old.

I have been following your blog since it was on Tumblr. When you evolved to the Simply Taralynn format here it flowed well and I think you came into your blogger own. I miss those days when that’s what blogging was about. Back then many friends and family members used it as a way to keep in touch – which I preferred to FB.
Honestly since the Tumblr days your blog has been a top 3 blog I follow. The weekly recaps, personal honesty, and brightly colored photos is your brand and the reason I keep coming back all these years. Blogs that have the conventional “perfect” photos and bland content just make me think they’re trying to sell me something… or it’s run by foreign spies who get me to “click” so they can access my boring work spreadsheets. LOL… sort of kidding? You be you – and thank you for what you do.
I think the word is “disingenuous”? Yep – I just Googled it.

I had to comment on this post right away before reading the rest of it! First of all, I’ve been following you since your tumblr days as undressedskeleton, and I was so inspired by you and your posts that you kept me going while I lost weight. I shed over 80 lbs! now I’m on another weight loss journey, trying to get back into running and doing a low carb lifestyle (like your dad!!) and you still motivate me, to this day. You’ve always been honest and heartfelt and inspiring-I would hate if your blog turned into one of those cookie cutter staged websites. It wouldn’t inspire me as much as you currently do!! I am so happy to hear that you are content with the way your blog looks and that you’ll still be posting recaps. I absolutely can’t wait to read them every week. They remind me of how tumblr motivated me in the beginning (now it’s all ads and opinions bleh) and how fun living a healthy lifestyle can be! UGH sorry this is so long I just had to tell you that you’re the best and keep doing you!
Jessica says
I read your blog for a lot of different reasons, but mainly for the fact that you are real and relatable. I have gone through a lot of the same things that you talk about in your recaps, which makes it fun to keep up with what you are going through and how you are growing as a person. It reminds me that even though everything in life isn’t perfect, there are so many great things to enjoy and appreciate. I honestly love your recap posts and hope you continue to do them until you decide that they are no longer something you enjoy! Keep doing you 🙂
Danielle says
DON’T EVER STOP DOING YOUR RECAPS!!! They brighten my day and I absolutely love reading them! I love that you are real with your readers.
I wold LOVE to watch a Youtube taste test with you and Becca simply because it would probably be hysterical with you two!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Danielle!!
hahaha we are totally doing the video!

Please keep doing what you’re doing with your blog. I’ve stopped following so many blogs over the years because they went from real life content to sounding like canned commercials. I can’t stand how fake they are!
And I love any/all pics of the dogs. I have a 4 month old Bernedoodle named Jake that follows them on Instagram (jakethebernedoodle).
Taralynn McNitt says
Well, thank you Mary!!!!
OMG!! I LOVE BERNEDOODLES!!!!FOLLOWING NOW!!! :D:D:D
If we ever get a big backyard…might add one to the fam.
Shannen says
Ahhh THANK YOU for sharing that! I love a beautiful insta feed or hearing about genuine products that people enjoy using. But too many people feel fake, or like they are just in it for the money. I have stopped reading almost all of the bloggers I used to follow for this reason. Now, I only keep up with you and two others. (This is actually the first post of yours, or anyone’s, that I have read in a while, but that was because I took a detox and needed to “live in my moment” and not in other people’s worlds.) The fact that you are so real – in your recaps and your other posts – is what has made me a faithful reader for years! Literally. I started reading in your fairly early days, like 2011! Keep it up! Thank you for being you! <3
brittany says
Thank you for the honest Daily Harvest review!!! I was considering ordering earlier in the week!!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Lol just do it at your own risk 😀
Chris says
I’m obviously not the first to say this (and I won’t be the last) but please don’t change A THING in your blog, in blogging, in yourself. It’s so refreshing to read your post because we can actually relate and years after years we’ve all build a strong relationship with you and this blog. You opened up about your success and your failure, you have been an example, a model and in a way a friend for a lot of us. You helped us in so many ways each and every one of us to conquer our fear and just “be us”…simple is good, simple is nice, simple is strong… Simply Taralynn is perfect the way you made it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, Chris!
First off, thank you so much! 🙂
I loved your comment a lot and it’s just a reminder to as why I do this!
Thank you! Have a great weekend 🙂

The weekly recaps are my favorite! I love your blog! 🙂

Don’t change a thing about your blog! Your blog is the only one I actually “read” these days!
Taralynn McNitt says
Well thank you, Lindsay!
Jackie says
Do you, girl! The recap posts are my favorite and inspiring! I wish I could eat as healthy as you. You’re awesome!
Have you ever written an entire post on the details of how you make cappuccino in your Nespresso? Every time I see your cappuccino pictures, it makes me want one!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks so much, Jackie!
I haven’t! I just mention which ones I use! But I think a post is a great idea 😀
Sophie says
I love the recap posts, they’re my favourite 🙂
I’m in the UK and never heard of Daily Harvest but a video taste test sounds funny – definitely would like to see that!!
I’d be super interested in photography posts, I used to go out all the time taking photos and I want to get some of my skills back xxxx
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you, Sophie!!
Christine says
Okay, first of all — I love your recap posts. It’s my favorite content on this blog. If your blog turned into just sponsored posts, recipes, and workout stuff, I definitely wouldn’t stick around. Yours is the only blog I read regularly because the others I try to get into just seem like carbon copies of the same girl trying to post only picture-perfect snapshots of herself modeling free sh*t that advertisers send. It’s awful. Your blog feels like a breath of fresh air, and I hope you never change! Your honesty and genuine nature is the reason I’ve been reading for years. Thank you for what you do!
Secondly, OMG your daily harvest reviews were cracking me up! I always thought these little cups of (probably weeks old) fruits and veggies seemed like the dumbest and most expensive way possible to make smoothies. I mean, smoothies are not hard to make. Literally the easiest thing to throw together. The people who drink these are probably intimidated by the thought of making a smoothie (???), and have probably never had a good smoothie — that is, one made at home with fresh fruits and veggies and a plant-based protein add-in. Also, Daily Harvest probably deletes negative comments and reviews from their page, which is why it seems overwhelmingly positive. Thanks for your honest review!
Cheers!
Karla says
I think the recaps are fun! Keep doing you, Taralynn. Can’t wait to hear your podcast! What are your current faves?
Sara says
Hi Taralynn,
Love the blog and the recaps! I’ve been reading for years, and I love what and how you write. it’s what makes your blog yours! I also walk my dogs while listening to silly podcasts, it makes the time go so much faster! Just wanted to say keep up the good work!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you so much, Sara!

I’m late to reading this, but I love your recaps! I especially love seeing pictures of you and the dogs. I have a dog and our daily walks are my favorite part of the day. I’ve seen other bloggers rave about the Daily Harvest, I’m glad you gave your honest opinion so I don’t make the expensive mistake and purchase them to try.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi, there!
Thanks so much 🙂 Yes, don’t make the same mistake I did !
Elaina Gray says
Have you tried kiefer water? It’s really good for digestion and overall health. Plus, you can make it yourself and it sustainable. Just thought you might like it!
Taralynn McNitt says
Heard of it!! Never tried it though!
Virginia says
Yes!! I tried daily harvest and thought I was insane too! I had a chia breakfast and it tasted like dirt.
I love reading your posts!!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hahaha! Same! I have all the daily harvest in my freezer and I am going to do the youtube tasting! (not really looking forward to it.)
Emilee says
Hi Taralynn, I love your cat slippers! Please don’t post less weekly recaps. I think they make your blog more unique than others. A lot of other blogs I visit don’t do any kind of recaps and it’s hard to get to know them as a person. I think you have a good system here! I have not tried Daily Harvest, and have no intent to after reading this post! One thing I’ve been putting off is buying new gym shoes. The closest stores are a bus ride away and I keep saying “next weekend…oops, maybe next weekend” haha.
Mali says
Hey Taralynn! I’m honestly so glad you’re not info the «perfect blog» stuff, the main reason I read your blog is because of the «day/week in my life» recap posts. I mean.. i’ve been reading your blog for YEARS – since the Tumblr days, Hello. When I read your recaps it feels like I’m catching up with a friend at the end of the week, hearing about what you’ve Been up to etc. Your blog is so personal and you, and that is what I love. It’s so real. And I think that is what’s made your blog so successfull. I don’t want to lose my long time friend, you know. I love all of it honestly, your ups and downs, the moving, traveling, silly stuff with your Friends and loved ones, your fitness stuff, closet cleanouts, everything. Thank you for being you and staying true to all of it. It’s what you love, and I think it’s important that you keep doing it in a way you love, if not you’ll Get bored of it very quick. Love you 🙂
Sarah says
You crack me up! I’ve been reading your blog for YEARS and I was excited to see you did a review on Daily Harvest! I’ve gotta say… I LOVE Daily Harvest! haha. I’ve got to say, though, that when I tried my first couple (I’ve only done the smoothies) I was less than impressed. Once I started doing a few things differently (setting them out to defrost for 15 minutes before blending, adding extra coconut milk, and even adding a hunk of banana to those that don’t have them already) I’ve been really loving them. I have to agree with you, though, for the price you shouldn’t HAVE TO do anything else to them! Have you tried the blender bombs from Hushup + Hustle? I add one of those to the light ones to make them more filling (which makes for an extra expensive yet super delicious smoothie!)

It has been on my mind to respond to this post since you wrote it, just because I wanted to encourage you — along with all your other loyal readers — to not change a thing! I love how genuine you are. It makes me feel like you are a real person that I can connect with. It is so obvious to me when I click on a blog that feels “commercialized.” Your recap posts are my favorite. I read them immediately when they are posted every week. Your blog is the only blog I have ever actually followed (for years now) and I think that’s because it just feels genuine and accessible.
By the way, even though I keep saying “genuine” and “real” — your photos and content are actually amazing! I can’t imagine anyone you hired could produce something that great. I love love all your pictures and the positive way you portray your real life. It is inspiring and warm. Your pictures actually are magazine quality.
Thank you for staying strong in your convictions and true to yourself! You’re not nearly old enough to have such wisdom 😉

Hi, I have been following you since the very beginning, but would stop reading if the recap posts went away. I love them so much that I hoard them for a month or 2 so I can read them all at once (hence why I’m posting on an old post 🙂 ). Please never stop!
