Good Morning!
I’m back again with a new CVS post! I mentioned in my last post (covering some saving hacks on favorite products and snacks) that I’d be sharing more excellent store features on my blog throughout the year! Downloading the CVS Pharmacy App has made shopping quicker, easier, and cheaper! Today, I’ll be sharing everything you need to know about the CVS Pay feature. I wish all stores had this.
If you were hoping for a fitness post today, do ten jumping jacks every time you read CVS Pay! 🙂
So what the heck is CVS Pay?
It’s a feature on the app that allows you to pay for all of your retail and pharmacy items right there with your mobile phone(Android & iOS device friendly.) The cool part? (well, I think so anyway) is that if you have your ExtraCare card linked to the app, you’ll receive the deals and rewards when you use CVS Pay.
Setting up CVS Pay!
It’s so easy. Once you sign into the app, find the CVS Pay feature (pictured above), create a CVS Pay pin, and add your payment methods. You can use all major credit card companies, and your HSA and FSA cards. You can split up your payments as well. If you wanted to purchase your prescriptions with your HSA/FSA cards, select that option and then select the next payment option for the remainder of the items. It’s very easy to navigate. You can change and remove information at any time.
Refunds?
Just bring in your physical receipt and the refund will be made to the payment method you used.
I wanted to test out the CVS Pay feature a couple of days ago. I headed to their photo counter to pick up my order (same day pick up, woo!) and showed the store associate the barcode in my CVS app. She scanned the barcode to ring me up, I selected my payment method, and that was it! It even gave me a discount because I was linked to my ExtraCare card. She handed me my receipt, but I also received confirmation of payment in my CVS app.
If you have your pharmacy alerts turned on, you can head to CVS when your prescriptions are ready and use the single barcode to pay. This helps keep your visit private and more secure! You can also use the app to refill and manage multiple prescriptions.
One of my favorite reasons for using the CVS Pay is that I stop there after the gym a lot. I don’t like taking my credit cards with me and usually leave everything at home. Sometimes I forget to bring them with me when I’m rushing out the door to make it to class on time. This allows me to stop and purchase anything in the store without having my physical card on me.
The Gold Emblem Abound snack bars are my favorite! I love their chia bars. I’m also a big fan of their popcorn, coconut water, mixed nuts, and nut bars! I haven’t tried a Gold Emblem product I haven’t liked yet!
Security!
I have a feeling you’re wondering about the security of your payment methods…
Security was my first concern, but CVS has security measures in place to protect your payment information. When you open the app, you will only see the last four digits of your card number displayed. If someone were to get ahold of your phone and find your card hooked up to the app, they have no way of revealing the card number. This keeps your information safe even if your phone is lost or stolen. And if you do lose your phone, you can call Customer Care, and they will disable/enable it immediately.
The CVS pin code also keeps your transaction safe and secure. The pin consists of a 4-digit number that you set up and use to authorize a CVS Pay. purchase. It’s required to complete a transaction. There is a TouchID option as well, just in case you’re bad with remembering numbers (guilty.) If you forget your pin code, you can change it in the “Manage CVS Pay” settings.
So far, CVS Pay is available at all participating CVS stores and drive-thrus. The CVS Pharmacy within the Target stores may or may not offer the feature yet! You can call your local Target CVS Pharmacy ahead of time. If you are planning on using the drive-thru, share your pickup number to use the feature.
I hope you all enjoyed learning about the new CVS Pay feature! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section!

The CVS Pay app sounds so handy! The CVS near me is kind of out of the way for me, but I’ll have to check it out; I didn’t realize they recycled their plastic bags, how cool!
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes!! They do 🙂 They are working really hard towards a healthy future! Doing so many great things.
Shannen says
Sadly I don’t have a CVS near me. We typically go to Rite-Aid or Walgreens. But this app sounds like such a great idea! So practical and helpful!
ps. I loved the jumping jack idea!
Taralynn McNitt says
Oh no!!! 🙁 Well, whenever you travel, you have to check out CVS! Literally THE BEST pharmacy.
hahaha Well…it’s still a great workout post 😉

Thank you so much for explaining this CVS Pay feature. I have seen it on the app when picking up prescriptions but never was told to enter a card. Going into the app now and linking my CC card.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yay! It’s so easy to do to!

Glad to know I’m not the only one obsessed with Gold Emblem!

CVS is amazing! I go there all the time for prescriptions and on-the-go healthy snacks. I swear, if I go in there for one thing, I usually spend a lot longer in there just browsing all the snacks and stuff. LOL.
I haven’t used the CVS Pay, yet! I might have to get on that. I started using their photo printing option on the app and it has made life so much easier! there is something about having real life tangible photos compared to on your phone and instagram.
Thanks so much!!

This post came at the perfect time. I’m flying through charlotte today and yesterday I stopped by cvs to pick up some travel snacks. Along with what I picked up for my flight, I made a list of things I want to buy from there when I get back home. They carry so many things that are perfect for hiking or throwing in the gym bag!
Taralynn McNitt says
OMG, this is the BEST pre-hiking stop! They have popcorn, nuts, bars, water, sun screen, bug spray, first aid, and the list goes on! Plus, their snacks are SO unique! I like that you don’t have to buy a giant box of things and you can get them individually.
WELCOME TO CHARLOTTE!

I just hooked my credit card up last week! I go there daily because I live across the street (NYC) and I love that I do not have to bring my credit card with me. I feel safer.
Taralynn McNitt says
Very smart!
Living across the street would be dangerous for me!
I’ve been in several NCY CVSs and they are HUGE! You’re so lucky!

I don’t have a CVS within walking distance but they’re my go-to for prescription pickups! I use a similar app at Sams Club – I can scan the items as I put them into my cart and pay on the app without having to wait in those dreadful lines!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is pretty cool! Love the idea of scanning your own products. I’ll have to share that idea with them!
Kate says
I fill my desk up with CVS snacks!
Taralynn McNitt says
I don’t blame you!

I don’t have a CVS near me (I’m not sure if any are in Canada?), but there are lots of stores similar.
I’ve seen the pay apps in other countries but have never gotten to use one. They seem so cool! I would definitely use it.

I’ve been using the app ever since you blogged about it last month. I can’t believe all of the deals and savings. My kids and I like to bring their snacks into the movies with us.
Taralynn McNitt says
So happy to hear that you’re using the app! Such a money saver! Oh, and I’m also guilty of bringing the snacks to the movies!

I love CVS! I won’t even step into a Walgreens until they stop selling tobacco!
Taralynn McNitt says
Agreed!
Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says
CVS is always our first stop when we go to Vegas! They’ve got them all over and it’s SO convenient. We always stock up on snacks (and some drinks!) so we spend less while we’re there.
We don’t have any in Colorado right now (aside from their pharmacy inside Target), but I love all of the healthy snacks I see you posting from there. It looks like such a perfect post workout stop. I honestly wish they’d replace the Walgreens here with CVS!
Taralynn McNitt says
Very smart!!
I wish that for you too!!!
Lena says
Hey Tara!
I know you’re an animal lover and I’ve been following your blog for a few years as a silent reader. I know you make lots of healthy choices each day and I would like to encourage you to choose more environment friendly options whilst going out for coffee or shopping. You tend to take a lot of coffee or salads on the go. Why don’t you get yourself a cute reusable coffee to go cup made out of bamboo, steel or porcelain? There is ahuge variety. Each year, we throw away billions of disposable cups. They increase the amount of plastic and waste on our lovely planet. You reach a lot of (young) people on your blog, so why not make a lifestyle choice that benefits humans, earth and animals?
Good luck!
Taralynn McNitt says
Thank you! 🙂 I just ordered a reusable cup!
