Happy Friday 🙂
Today is a BIG day for me. It’s the reason I’ve been slacking on blog posts and the reason my Christmas tree isn’t up yet. It’s the big news I’ve been talking about & you won’t have to wait much longer to be filled in.
I will be busy all weekend and life will be back to normal on Monday (a better normal.)
I didn’t want to leave this morning without sharing one of my Christmas adventures. Last week, I participated in the Holiday Home Tour. It’s located in the Fourth Ward neighborhood in Charlotte. Homeowners in the historic district open up their festive homes and let complete strangers take a peek inside! I was so impressed with all of the decorations, and style! 🙂 I took some photos to share on the blog! I hope they send you into full Christmas spirit 🙂 xo -Taralynn
What is your favorite Christmas memory?

I don’t have a specific favourite Christmas memory, but every year up to my 12th was great because get this:
I actually believed in Santa Claus until I was 12.
I know, CRAZY! My parents just never told me the truth and I never ever assumed they’d lie to me. They were so serious about it! I remember trying to convince my best friend that Santa did indeed exist when we were 11 and she was laughing so hard at me. In the end my Dad had to actually tell me Santa didn’t exist. xD

Hi Charmaine! ( I really love your name btw)
I don’t think that is crazy at all. If my parents never sat me down and told me, I’d still believe. Even my friends at school would tell me he wasn’t real and I wouldnt believe them. They sat me down in third grade and I was devastated. Apart of me still believes in the St. Nick! 😉 We were the exact same haha!

I love going to church on Christmas Eve, when they turn the lights off to sing Silent Night without the piano. It is hauntingly beautiful.
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds beautiful!! I love going to church on Christmas Eve and seeing all the kids in their cute christmas outfits and I know all the magical Christmas thoughts going on in their heads.

My favorite Christmas memory is asking my mom how Santa was possibly going to get into our tiny one story no basement home without having a fireplace or chimney. She told me that he came through the front door and that made my brothers and I question how. I later hurt my foot and was home the day she planned to Christmas shop so she had to give up and tell me about Santa not being real. I got to spend the day picking out gifts with her for my two younger brothers and it ended up being the best Christmas because my favorite thing to do was to spend time with her.
I loved all the photos but the Christmas platter with coffee mugs was my favorite!
Taralynn McNitt says
Awwwwww:( At least you got to pick out some gifts and spend time with your mom! I bet that was special. I was DEVASTATED when my parents told me that Santa wasn’t real. I’ll never forget that moment!
That was such a cozy kitchen! I loved it 🙂

I love this! We have a similar historic Christmas house tour in my area that my family and I get tickets too. It kicks off our Christmas season! But Charlotte’s tour looks way cooler! My favorite memory is just making cookies with my mom and sister. One year we made over 25 different varieties of cookies! Our family and friends were blown away!
Taralynn McNitt says
That is awesome your area does it as well! Making cookies was one of my FAVORITE memories too! My mom used to let us sprinkle the crap out of them lol 25 DIFFERENT VARIETIES!!?? WOW!!!

Such pretty houses! I wish my city had something like this!
My favorite Christmas memory is that every year me, my mom, and my sisters take a whole day to dedicate to Christmas decorating and treat making 🙂 We help her make all of the goodies and then she lets us decorate the tree (but moves all of the ornaments once we’re done lol)
Taralynn McNitt says
Awwww sounds like something my mom would do too! I love days like that to put you in the Christmas spirit!
Rae says
Those homes are just gorgeous!
My favorite Christmas memory was from a few years ago. We live in rural Canada and that year the lakes and ponds had frozen over perfectly, completely smooth, with barely any snow. On Boxing Day, me and my big brother went out and strapped on our skates in the morning and cleared off the snow on our big pond. When we got back to town my mom had homemade turkey soup and homemade buns waiting for lunch to warm us up. After lunch all my friends and family bundled up and met up at the pond and spent the afternoon skating and playing hockey and drinking hot chocolate and Baileys. A true Canadian Christmas!
Taralynn McNitt says
That sounds so magical! My dream was to have a pond to skate on as a kid. 🙂 I loved reading that comment, felt like a scene from a Christmas movie!
Shanna says
You should be a suspense writer! You bought house? Getting married? Moving to a new city? Don’t think you haven’t let our imaginations run wild the past few weeks.
What beautiful houses!
I don’t think I can narrow it down to one memory. I’ve been living vicariously through my four year old lately. that’s fun!
Taralynn McNitt says
hahaha thank you!! 😉
I bet your kids are so excited this time of year! Christmas is so magical.
Alice says
Not really what Christmas is about, but my favourite memory is definitely waking up to a full stocking at the foot of my bed, which we could open as soon as we woke up. Then creeping downstairs to count and sort the presents under the tree (which we weren’t meant to do). It was that sense of excitement and magic.
Taralynn McNitt says
I think every kid experiences the sense of excitement and magic 🙂 I remember feeling the same way!
Jacelyn says
I love your photography

Hi 🙂
this looks all so lovely. It looks like people stuck a lot of work in there. The picture with the skyline was really pretty.
I don’t have a favorite memory because all memories of Christmas are kinda my favorite. I loved Christmas when my grandpa was still here. He was a special man in my eyes. But that’s what Christmas is all about having all your loved ones around ^^
Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂
Taralynn McNitt says
Thanks Leah-Maria!
You’re very right!:) As long as your loved ones are around, Christmas is special. xo xo

Taralynn McNitt says
oh cool! Which house was your favorite?
Ayla says
Seriously Taralynn, the suspense is killing me! I’ve been randomly checking your website the last few weeks, thinking I may have missed a post on Bloglovin’ and missed the big reveal. So curious!
Here in Holland we already have Sinterklaas coming to bring us presents on the 5th of December, and we deal with the whole ‘he’s not real?!’ issue over him. He comes on December 5th and one of his helpers bangs on the door and then leaves a burlap sack with all the presents at the door. Obviously, this is always a neighbor.
I was always so afraid, all hyped up and when the banging came I would scream and hide behind the couch. One year, I think I was 6 or so, I was declaring to my whole family that I was a big girl now, that I wasn’t scared like I used to be and that I would run to the door and open it so I could see him instead of hiding. Naturally, when he banged on the door I screamed, ran like hell and it took them a half hour to calm me down again. I’m gonna have so much fun with this when I have kids 😉
