Hello & Happy Sunday!
I hope you all had fantastic weekends. I can’t believe it’s almost over! My weekend was very calm and much needed after my weekend in Charleston for the Bachelorette party. I loved being able to catch up on work, drink coffee, go on long walks with Grumples, and relax. I have a lot of traveling planned next week, so it’ll be little nuts. Kyle even surprised me with tickets to go see Dirty Dancing the Musical last night! He knows it’s one of my favorite movies and that I’ve been dying to see it on stage. It was one of the best musicals I’ve seen in a long time, but I’ll blog all about that later! It’s time to catch you guys up on part three of the Bachelorette weekend! If you’ve missed the first two posts, here they are! PART ONE & PART TWO! I knew Saturday was going to be crazy, so I wanted to wake up super early and have some “me” time. Becca is also a morning person, so she was up having coffee with me at 5:30 am before we headed to the beach to run. There is nothing more beautiful than a morning sunrise on the beach. It was nice and chilly at 6:30 am and the perfect weather for a long run.
I was determined to hit seven miles. I managed to snap a couple of photos while I was running, but it was hard. There is something about running next to the ocean that is so therapeutic and freeing. I felt a rush of energy enter my body every time I took a deep breath of the ocean air.
I ran to the left side of the Folly pier for 3 miles until it disappeared. I ran an extra mile on the right side of the pier and logged 7.78 miles by the time I was finished. I felt amazing. I LOVE running on the beach and it’s easier on the joints. If I lived close to the beach, I’d run there every morning. I got excited when I saw a Grumples lookalike on the way back! Becca ended up doing four miles! She’s been getting into running as well and is kicking butt.
I was a muddy and sticky mess when I finished. I deserved a nice iced coffee after that run, so we went to our favorite coffee shop in Folly for a delicious treat.
We headed back to the pier to walk with coffee and stretch.
We stopped to pick up a football on the way back to the house to bring to the beach. You can’t go to the beach without a football…
Coming back to the donuts after a long run…THE TEMPTATION. I made a protein filled breakfast instead. I’ve been loving plain greek yogurt with protein powder lately!
I mix 10 ounces of plain Greek yogurt with one CVS protein packet. I also add honey and fruit! I love a high protein breakfast after a workout because it helps recovery and prevents sore muscles! It also keeps me full longer. We headed to the beach after breakfast! And so it begins… I was trying to keep up with the Iowa game. Coconut water is the best for beach days because it helps you stay hydrated!
We left the beach at three so we could get ready for out night out. We spent hours playing football, swimming in the ocean, playing corn hole (bags) with a bachelor party that was planted next to us and laying out. It’s true what they say about overcast days and sunburns…ouch.
I ended up wearing my black romper from Urban Outfitters with black shoes & a side of sunburn. BASIC AF. ?? Besties <3 We had dinner at O-Ku on King street. O-Ku is a very cool sushi restaurant. I loved the interior and the service was great!
Becca and I split a crunchy crab roll and spicy tuna.
Aimee had a list of dares she had to complete by the end of the night!
The night was pretty crazy. I’d love to share more but…girl code. These girls are so much fun and definitely know how to party!
I ubered back to the house at one am because I couldn’t wait to shower and put my pajamas on! I love being cozy.
Not going to lie, I totally ate a late night donut. SO GOOD & SO WORTH the wait. no shame. ??
I woke up early to pack and have coffee before we headed back to Charlotte. Before we headed out, we stopped at Ritas for breakfast.
I ordered whole wheat toast, fresh fruit, bacon and a vegetable omelet with goat cheese. SOOOO delicious.
And it wouldn’t be a successful road trip if we didn’t stop at Center Street Coffee for to-go coffees! AND A COOKIE <3I had the skim latte with an extra shot of espresso.
I love Charleston and Folly Beach so much! I’m so lucky to live so close and I hope I can go a couple more times before it gets too cold.
Questions for you!
- Do you like running on the beach?
- What is a beach activity you like to do?
- What is the first thing you do when you get home after a long night out?
Kaylee says
Do you wear anything to track your miles/calories burned? I’m trying to decide between a fitbit and an apple watch!
Taralynn McNitt says
I wear my phone on my arm or hip and use the RunKeeper app! I LOVE it!
Taralynn McNitt says
A Garmin is nice too!
Vanessa says
Wow, looks like you had a great weekend! Especially the beach pics are amazing.
Do you like running on the beach?
Actually I never went running at the beach because its so far away from where I live. But I enjoy talking really long barefoot walks in the sand.
What is a beach activity you like to do?
I’ll never get too old to build a sand castle or just dig holes and canals to fill with water 😀
What is the first thing you do when you get home after a long night out?
I always drink loads of water first and often I have a snack as well. Then I unpack my bag, shower and cuddle up in bed with a book to unwind a bit.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Vanessa!
Such a fun weekend 🙂
Walking the beach is just as fun as running the beach. I like to listen to my music while walking the beach:)
HAHA LOVE THAT!
Sounds like the perfect way to unwind! xo

Linda @ The Fitty says
You look amazing in that sport bra outfit! Do people stare as you exercise outdoors in that kind of attire?
Taralynn McNitt says
I definitely don’t run in a sports bra! (gross) my tank was dripping wet with sweat so I had to air it out before going to the coffee shop. I never pay attention to people while I run. I’m in my zone!:)
Carly says
Perfect timing with your post and my cup of hot coffee! The bachelorette party looks like it was so much fun and so nice to see something other than just hard core partying.. a beach day is a great idea!
I really like running on the beach for the peaceful nature of it, but unfortunately the beaches near me aren’t very conducive to running because they are so short so I’d be bouncing back and forth like a ping pong ball, which would kill the peaceful vibe a bit.
I love to people watch at the beach, or anywhere really. We also just discovered a game that is basically two wooden paddles and a small rubber ball. Super simple but can literally keep you entertained for hours!
After a long night out I always rehydrate with ice water, take off my make up and find something comfy to wear. I usually try to stay away for at least two full glasses of water because I know I appreciate it in the morning. Real breakfast the next morning is also key!
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Carly!
Glad you could enjoy your coffee with a blog read:) Yes! It was such a fun group and a nice mix of relaxation and crazy.
I could definitely see that! Don’t wanna pingpong a peaceful vibe! 😉
That sounds like a fun game!:) I like observing people too! (in a non creepy way)
I think comfortable clothes and some relaxation time is key! ALWAYS a real breakfast the next day!!

1. Do you like running on the beach?
It’s awesome! I would love to do it daily, but I live far away from any beach. Thank God for Vacation! <3
2. What is a beach activity you like to do?
Swimming, playing around, just enjoy the sun.. there are tons of beautiful things you can do. (To be honest, I would do it like you do!)
3. What is the first thing you do when you get home after a long night out?
The same as you – take a long, hot shower, put the pajamas on, and calm down a little bit. I can't go to bed immediately after coming home, I need a little time for myself.
Your pictures are SO stunning again! I enjoy your blog so much, beautiful <3. It's so good to see how relaxed and happy you are. Thanks for sharing all those things with us. <3
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Hannah!
Yes vacation makes those beach runs extra special!
I love soaking up all the moments on the beach, otherwise I get withdrawals as soon as I’m home!
I’m the same way! I need to wind down before going to bed!
Thanks so much for the kind words!! xo xo xo

I love your off the shoulder gray shirt! where did you find it?
Taralynn McNitt says
It was just a normal sweater from target! I bought it oversized so I could wear it off shoulder 🙂 They have like six colors of it in stock!

That looks like such a fun girls weekend! I love your romper! Urban Outfitters has had the best rompers lately! 🙂
1. I do but I think it’s definitely more challenging than running on solid ground! So much prettier though!
2. I loveeee beach yoga!
3. I snuggle with my roommates or jump into bed with a large glass of water!

Thanks so much 🙂 It was a great weekend and super low-key.
It’s a challenge, but so therapeutic!
There were so many people doing beach yoga, I wanted to join! haha

Folly Beach looks incredible 🙂
I have never run on the beach but I’ve always wanted to! I’ve just never lived close enough to a beach. I think I’m missing out 🙂
After a long night out I take a steaming hot shower and get into comfy pj’s, and usually make a tea 🙂 I’m all about that cozy life!

Hi Taralynn!
It looks like you had a great time! Becca is an awesome friends! She deserves a shoutout!
I haven’t run on the beach but you girls rocked it doing four and seven miles! The terrain is perfect for building endurance. I think the closest beach I live near is Panama City.
Gosh. I haven’t been to the beach in so long. I love laying out and listening to the waves. I also like getting in the water to cool off. Volleyball is fun too!I would love to do some stand up paddle boarding. I think that would be so much fun!
After a long night out (which is rare for me lol) I like to curl up in bed with the fan on and put my phone on “do not disturb.” If I can get away with it, I don’t set the alarm either and sleep to my heart’s desire!
By the way, the drinks you guys had at the beach look delicious! I have become a huge fan of Greek yogurt recently. I mix it with raspberries, honey and cinnamon! Looking forward to your next post!
Brittany

Hi Brittany!
Such a fun weekend & I was so lucky to have Becca there, you’re right – she’s awesome!
You should definitely start doing beach runs, but early morning! It’s less bumpy and way cooooooler.
I LOVE beach volleyball! I wanted to do some paddle boarding this summer but didn’t get around to it.
I wish I could do that. My body is SO conditioned to waking up at the same time everyday, no matter how much sleep Ive had and once i’m up…IM UP!
Those drinks were super delicious. I don’t even know what was in them…I’m thinking champagne, some kind of liquor, fruit and….who knows what else!
Honey & Greek yogurt is the best combo, especially with cinnamon!

Running on the beach is hard for me, there are too many bumps! I’m still trying very hard to just run, period, so the beach will be a nice goal someday. Any tips on how to handle my heart rate and breathing? I get freaked out that my heart is beating too fast or that I won’t be able to get enough air in my lungs. I think it’s all in my head, but it’s hard not to freak out sometimes :/
I love swimming in the waves, I’m always the last one to get out of the water!
Wash all that make-up off and put on my comfy clothes. Having a clean face makes me feel so much better.
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Jamie!
Running on the beach is a great goal 🙂 You could do a 1 min run/1 min walk for thirty minutes on the beach to help you get better at running. I have to listen to music because I don’t like to hear myself breath. If you’re using a running app, make sure you turn off all your notifications. Let the app tell you how long you’ve been running for and do not pay attention to the speed because your body will naturally get faster. Work on being able to run 10-20-30 minutes before worrying about your speed. Try to really control your breathing with deep breaths through your nose and out of your mouth. If you run four times a week and focus on how long you run for rather than speed, you’ll get better! When I first started out, I’d run five minutes (11-10 min mile) and then walk five minutes for one hour! You just have to relax and do not make it a sprint or race.
I actually swam in the water this time! I never do!! (shark fear lol)
YES…make up off first and comfy clothes next!!
xo
Mackenzie says
I’ve never actually run on the beach (which is ridiculous seeing as I live on an island) but I really want to give it a go! My favourite things once I get back from a night out is definitely putting on my sweats. Comfortable clothes for the win!
Taralynn McNitt says
I love it! If I were you, I’d do it all the time. You’re lucky to live on an island 🙂
Comfortable clothes all day:)

Hi Taralynn,
This is Aleksandra, I have been reading you for some time and I am just impressed on how early you wake up! Is it still dark when you get up? Please tell me the secret how to start the day so early and be awake till night.
I work quite far away from my house so I get up around 5:30 but then the weekend comes I sleep 10 hours haha that’s why I am so courious what time do you get to sleep and if you have a lof of energy in the night.
I really enjoy reading your blog, thank you!
Alex
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Aleksandra!
It is still dark when I wake up, but I like to sit around having coffee and a small breakfast before I start my day. Exercising, eating healthy, lots of water, and coffee energize me throughout the day. 🙂
If I sleep longer than 9 hours, I’m tired all day. Too much sleep is not good for me and I make sure to stick to my routine seven days a week if I can. My body only requires about 6 1/2 – 7 hours of sleep. If you’re eating healthy food filled with protein, healthy fats, complex carbs, tons of water ( instead of the food that sends you into crash mode like candy, fried greasy food) and getting a little exercise in, you should be fine:) If you’re extremely tired during the day and your body can’t adapt to your schedule, you should probably talk to your doctor! Being sleepy can be a symptom to something else.
Thank you for reading my blog!
Taralynn

I live really close to beaches but I don’t run on them….yet, I’m actually working my way up to that, it’s one of my fitness goals because running on the beach is so much harder than running on regular pavement, so once I feel comfortable running regularly I’m going to step it up to the beach, I’ll keep you updated on how that goes lol
My favorite thing to do at the beach is either soccer on the sand or volleyball in the water, I like laying out and relaxing but it’s even more fun getting up and moving
The first thing I do after a long night out (if I’m relatively sober) is definitely getting out of my restrictive sweaty clothes, showering, and jumping into some comfy pajamas and cuddling with my fur babies ^_^
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Cait!
That sounds like a great goal and I can’t wait to follow your journey:) Please do keep me posted!
I LOVE sand volleyball!!!
YES YES YES! To all of that 😉
xo Have a great week!

Goodness that looks like too much fun! And that cookie- gimmmmeee!
– I LOVEEE to run on the beach especially super early before anyone gets out there
– Beach yoga ??
– After a long night – clean. Usually during the weekend or in the process of getting ready I make a mess. I can’t focus on anything else until it’s all back in order.
Thanks for sharing your amazing girls trip with us. Have a wonderful week, Taralynn! ?
Taralynn McNitt says
So much fun & that cookie is a must. I get one every time I go to folly!
Yes <3 I love all the people you pass because they’re doing the same as you! just trying to enjoy the beauty of the sunrise before the day starts. I love seeing all the dogs out there as well! Do you live close to the beach?
Lol. Typical girl 😉 We all do that. My bathroom counter has all my make up products spread out! I sometimes have like five dresses laying on my bed or the floor because I couldn’t figure out what to wear! (whoooooops)
Thanks so much for reading & I hope you have a great week!

Hi Taralynn!
I am trying hard to get into running but find myself getting tired after a bit and I think it’s probably because I go first thing in the morning before I’ve eaten. What do you suggest eating before a run?
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Tamara!
All of our bodies are different and we react different to foods before a workout. The best thing you can do is trial and error! You need to figure out how long you’re working out for or what makes your body perform the best! I find that I cannot have diary before a run and I have to eat carbs. The carbs I eat are either cereal and almond milk or a banana (one hour before I run) Try different foods and you’ll eventually find your body reacting to one better than the others. Try bananas, pb & whole wheat toast, oatmeal, or whole grain cereals. Make sure to end your run with water and protein! 🙂

Looks like a fun time! My kind of idea for a bachelorette party weekend. 🙂
1) Don’t have any good beaches to run on in Milwaukee, we have beautiful Lake Michigan but the beaches are short. There are sidewalks along the drive that are fun to run though – at least we get to enjoy the view! I recently discovered a giant open meadow with trails to run on near where I live. It’s very hilly so it’ll help me build up my endurance I think! I also started using the RunKeeper app after seeing you use it and I LOVE it!
2) I love having a beach picnic with my friends in the evenings with wine and small bites to enjoy. Otherwise I like to read and relax, I also love to play bags!
3) Crazy nights out are rare for me, but when they do happen I immediately put on the comfy clothes, wash my face, and drink a tall glass of water. Don’t want to be regretting anything in the morning 😉
I do have a question for you – I don’t go on a run everyday, but when I do run my joints hurt like crazy for the next day or two. Besides eating protein and drinking lots of water, how else do you recover from long runs? Any specific stretches? It could just be that my body isn’t used to that much movement since I sit at a desk all day for work.
Thank you!! 🙂
Ashley says
Hi Taralynn –
Since you are a runner maybe you will have some advice. I’ve been trying to get into running by doing the couch to 5k app. I love it but my shins and calves are KILLING me and not helping with my progress. Do you have any tips or secrets to make the pain go away?
Taralynn McNitt says
Hi Ashley!
Are you taking breaks? You should never run 5 days a week if you’re not used to it. Make sure you’re stretching after, doing a warm up prior, icing, using a foam roller, massage your legs, and do not go faster than your body can handle. You have to ease into it slowly or you’ll get injured. Is it shin splints that you have?
Ashley says
Yes its shin splints! They hurt so bad, even after my run. I was running up to 3 days in a row but had to take two days off just to heal. Now I’m afraid they’ll come back!
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Great photos! Looks like a beautiful beach–ill have to visit that one sometime. I love reading on the beach and i love swimming and boogie boarding in the water.
Taralynn McNitt says
Yes you will have to visit for sure!! Reading on the beach is so great, but sunglasses are a must or migraines…… xo xo

I went to the Dirty Dancing show in Charlotte on Saturday night too! Wasn’t it amazing?! 🙂

I do not know how you do it. Every time I go on vacation I say I’m going to eat healthy and exercise and it never happens!
Emily says
Quick question: do you usually eat anything before you do morning workouts or do you wait until after?
For your questions: I’m not really into running, I’m more of a zumba and pilates type of girl 🙂
