When the weather gets hot, I crave cold, fresh, and mouthwatering smoothies! There is nothing more refreshing than an icy smoothie going down my throat after a long run to rehydrate my body. I’ve been on a coconut water kick lately. I’ve tried almost ten new brands and get really excited when I get to try a new one. I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to coconut water. Last year, I wouldn’t have touched the stuff. I loved coconut but didn’t care for the water. Even growing up in Hawaii, where the coconuts are crazy fresh, I couldn’t stand the taste of coconut water out of the coconut; of course it was nasty because it was warm. I still won’t drink warm coconut water.
We used to go up to the Farmer’s markets by the beach on Saturday mornings with my dad. He was busy working every day on base , so it was hard for us to spend time with him. That is why we loved Saturdays. Mom would give us our own shopping bags to choose our own fruits; the majority of my bag was filled with bananas and pineapples. I ended up carrying most of the pineapples because they ripped holes right through the plastic. My parents used to get coconuts with straws sticking out of them to drink the fresh coconut water. Even though I knew I didn’t like the coconuts, I still felt the need to try theirs every Saturday in hopes that my hatred for them would change.
I’m not sure what happened or what changed, but now I love coconut water. I also like vegetables now which I used to despise. I guess you can really change the route your tastebuds are going. The awesome team over at Coco Joy sent me some of their coconut water to try and I was extremely excited when it arrived on my doorstep.
I’ve been craving smoothies ever since having one in the DR at Fresh Fresh Cafe. That smoothie used coconut water as the liquid base and so when the cans arrived, I decided to use them as the base to my smoothies after a run or for a morning breakfast. They are the perfect serving size and only 30 calories a can.
The Coco Joy coconut water is made from 100% green coconuts and have no added sugars, no preservatives, concentrates, gluten, lactose, and theyre dairy free. I love coconut water to refresh after a workout because of the natural electrolytes, antioxidants, potassium, calcium and magnesium. That’s much better than using boring water!
Not everyone is a coconut fan; I promise this smoothie doesn’t have the coconut-y flavor. The fruit overpowers the water, but you still get the nutrients from the added coconut water.
This smoothie has:
*1/2 frozen banana
*3/4 cup frozen mango
*1 pineapple core, or fresh pineapple (never throw out the pineapple core, always save it for smoothies.)
*1 Coco Joy coconut water
*1/2 cup ice
*1 packet Stevia (optional)
You could also add: raspberries, papaya or kiwi!
This smoothie is gluten free, raw, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian, coconut free, and paleo.
This smoothie puts you in a tropical island mood. It was the perfect fix to cool me off after running 3 miles in the hot sun! This doesn’t only have to be a post workout treat. Don’t act like you weren’t thinking of adding rum to the mix 😉 I know I was!
And if you have kids, I bet they’d love this! (without the rum of course)
Most coconut waters have over 13g of sugar and this one only has six. The Coco Joy doesn’t have that nasty chalky or chunky flakes floating around; it’s as clear as water. I had my brother try it and he loved it as well. He also took some cans back with him for his road trip.
Overall, I was very impressed with Coco Joy!

There’s some brands of coconut water that I swear taste like dish water. I love a couple brands from WF. Definitely going to try Coco Joy!

I don’t know that I have ever tried coconut water. I hate the texture of coconut and really hated the flavor until my honeymoon to the Bahamas.
I LOVE tropical fruits though and this smoothie looks awesome.
Also, I love the photographs by the pool. The sparkling water adds a lot. They look awesome!
