I’m a huge believer in loving your dog as if was your child. I spoil Grumples, discipline him the right way, and give him tons of attention. It makes me sad to see dogs chained up, stuck inside all day, or in a crate(for long long periods of time) . I make sure Grumples gets an hour of exercise everyday or more.
Grumples has been obsessed with bubbles since he was a puppy. If I even say the word “bubbles” he starts freaking out. He will chase bubbles all day long if he could. I blow bubbles for so long that I start getting light headed. I’m thinking of investing in a bubble machine.
I recently just bought bacon bubbles! This is a whole new playing field. I need to get a video up soon of Grumples chasing these things because he does jumps, leaps, and the sound he makes are priceless.
He will stalk the bubbles until they are in jumping distance and then CHOMP!
He reminds me of a goat right now with his haircut.
If you haven’t tried bubbles with your dog yet, please do! And take a picture and send it to my email!
I know it seem silly to dedicated an entire post to my dog popping bubbles, but it makes my day 🙂

I’m not sure what Mr. Grumples tastes in bubbles, but I would not be eating them as muh as they make. mE jump for joy and dance in the su light!

It makes me so sad to see pets alone all day too! It’s really hard with a full-time job because I only get a few hours with my cat at home 🙁 Grumples is lucky you get to spend so much time with him!

To live a dogs life! A post like this just makes you smile.

Hi Tara, Mr. Grumples is so cute! It looks like you take great care of him, which is awesome. So many people have pets and neglect them. That being said – I really don’t think there is anything wrong with crating your dog. The way you said that was a little offensive to me. I work all day and live alone, so there is no one there to take care of my big 4 legged baby. He actually loves his crate and will even lay in there sometimes when I am at home (some dogs actually crave that security of a crate!). I don’t think it is fair to assume that anyone who crates their dog is automatically a bad or neglectful pet owner. My dog gets plenty of love, attention, and exercise when I am there. He is a rescue who came from a very bad/abusive situation, so I am pretty confidant that his life is 100x better now – crate included.

I couldn’t agree with this more. I love my dog, and we are definitely active together, but unfortunately, like most adults, I work/work away from my couch and can’t be with her all day. She enjoys her crate and has plenty of room–I actually chose one suggested by my vet.
(Also, Sara–you’re great, whoever you are, for adopting a rescue dog. <3)

Grumples is a doll!!
It shouldn’t make you sad to see dogs in crates. Our dog adores his crate and it’s a safe place for him when we’re at work during the day.
I’m sure what you meant to say was that it makes you sad to see dogs who are put in a crate for extensive periods of time, but just know that crating your dog in no way shape or form makes you a bad pet owner. You may chose to not crate your dog, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong for others to use that method for keeping their dogs safe and secure.

Your love for Grumples makes me smile! My dog LOVES bubbles too! Where did you find bacon bubbles??

Mr. Grumples is so lucky to have a great mom who can give him attention 24/7! 🙂 I have to chime in on the crate comment as well. I love that you treat him like a child – because in most ways, dogs are like our children. Many rescue dogs have severe separation anxiety after they are finally adopted – they don’t want to loose their new family! So, think of a child — what is something they do when they are scared or afraid? You see it in the movie all of the time – they run and hide in a tight, secure spot (such as under their bed or in the closet). The crate is like that for a dog, especially a dog that needs security and a feeling of safety. This is basic behavior that can be seen in humans and in dogs. So don’t be so quick to assume that a dog in a crate is miserable or neglected!

I didn’t mean it as in crating was bad, I hate seeing dogs in crates for long periods of times. Thats all I meant by it.

That’s awesome that you get to spend so much time with your dog. I wish that I could spend all day with my dogs too! Unfortunately I have to work long hours leaving my dogs inside all day. Don’t be sad for them though. They are happy and well adjusted. When I rescued my pup he was scheduled to be euthanized at that end of that week. It makes me much sadder to think of his fate had I not found him on time. While it sucks that he is stuck in the house for long hours, I’d rather have it that way than not have him at all.
Have you ever thought of becoming a dog walker or volunteering at a shelter? It’s a great way to incorporate you love of exercise and your love of dogs. There are probably hundreds of dogs in your nearby shelter that could use someone who could walk them and play with them. Then you could be less sad for those dogs that are stuck in cages all day.

I am home with my babies for a few years (I’m a teacher when I’m not home with them), and I am LOVING spending all this time with my dog 🙂 She isn’t so much into bubbles- maybe I will try blowing some for her without the kids in her face?
I love posts about your dog!

First off, you rock, read your blog everyday, and its my first comment (had to say it lol). Your posts make my day seriously and I freaking love your dog hes adorable. I miss my dog so much being away at college 🙁
Anyways..I totally feel you about the whole giving your dog enough exercise and attention thing. Even if a person works all day, when they adopted their dog, they made a commitment, and I think that part of being a good owner is giving your pup enough attention and love!! Like you said our dogs are like our kids, and when people decide to have a kid they usually are prepared to do so. That being said, when people choose to adopt a pet, they should make sure that they have enough time to give their pet the attention it deserves!(: My sisters take my dog out everyday and I love when they send me action shots of him playing haha it makes my day! I just asked them to send pics of him playing with bubbles b/c he loves them too, so ill def be emailing you shortly with some funny ones!

I definitely loved my dog as if he were my child. My dog, Zac, passed away in my arms a few nights ago. He was 17 years old but it was unexpected, he just started acting weird 2 hours earlier… I kept trying to do different things for him but he waited until he was in my arms. I got him when I was 11 years old, right after my dad passed away and I have been obsessed with him ever since.. the pain is unbearable. I had him cremated and leaving him was the hardest thing ever but they made it all really nice.. they sent back a custom cedar box, a bookmark with a poem and a butterfly you can plant to grow flowers, the story of the rainbow bridge, and his certificate. My boyfriend knew I always wanted a tattoo of my dogs paw print and I hadn’t gotten it, so he got the vet to get his paw print for me.. I also just ordered a bracelet with his name on it… typing all of this makes me sound really crazy but I think anyone who loves their dog would understand. Sorry for this long post.
