Waking up and doing a quick ten minute workout is sometimes more effective than coffee. This morning, before breakfast, before taking my dog for a quick stroll, I did a quick ten minute workout followed by a lukewarm glass of lemon water. I wrote down a quick routine on a piece of paper and then went at it! I felt so good afterwords. I am going to attempt the run again today with the hills and see if I can do better. I’m only running four miles today because my legs are sore from yesterday (which I’ll blog the workout next) and I don’t want to overwork myself.
After taking my dog for a quick mile morning walk, I made a little breakfast. I don’t like to fill up too much before a run and so I made 1 serving of whole grain oatmeal with sliced peaches, almond milk, and a side of sliced strawberries. I needed some sugar for some energy and fruit is the healthiest way to get it! Of course, I’m trying not to eat AS MUCH fruit as I used too and only eating the recommended amount.
After this post, I’m heading out for my run and then coming in to post more and finish up the rest of my work. I don’t have much on the schedule today so it should go by pretty quick. I’m thinking about baking or cooking something fun and healthy today! Do you have any suggestions. Link me some ideas in the comments!

If you are looking for a dinner option, you could try out Bruschetta Chicken. It’s tastes amazing and is healthy! It goes well with a side salad topped with feta and drizzled with balsamic – yum!!

I just saw a recipe for that on pinterest. I may make that when my parents come to town. They love brushcetta.

I wish I liked running. I may try this morning routine. My husband and I have been doing a quick workout every morning before he leaves for work, but our current routine is getting old.
This is THE best salsa I’ve ever had. It’s all good-for-you, fresh,”clean” ingredients. Give it a try (it is my recipe, but I promise I’m not being biased. haha)

If you are thinking about baking something healthy and AMAZINGLY delicious, you should try procheesecake (aka protein cheesecake)! It tastes absolutely sinful but only has around 200 calories per slice, with 20-30 grams of protein and less than 10 grams of carbs (depending on the specific ingredients you use!) Here is a pic from my Instagram account! http://instagram.com/p/q25M8rrObu/?modal=true
And here is the basic recipe with some different variations, if you’re interested! http://www.builtlean.com/2013/01/23/protein-cheesecake-recipe/

I’m not a huge cheesecake person, never was, but I’m always up for creating a taste for things (unless its mushrooms or cilantro) and your photo on your Insta looked incredible. My boyfriend’s mom loves cheesecake and so does he, so maybe I’ll try this recipe out for them!
Thnks 🙂 xo

Your life is so small and insignificant and you don’t do anything! You’re a joke.

You don’t even know me and you’re taking time out of your life to bring me down. I feel sorry for you. My life is meaningful, I’m happy, and there is nothing you can do to change that. If you don’t like my blog, simply click the “x” button. It won’t hurt my feelings.
Praying that you find happiness in life.

It makes me sad that you have to read comments like this, but it makes me even more sad for them. They must be very sad with themselves to be cruel to another person like that.
Also their post made me think of one of my favorite quotes “do small things with great love”. Keep it up! Thanks

Alyssa:
Actually, Simply Taralynn is full of travel stories, crafts, photography and DIY as well as these little food and workout posts. I think this blog teaches the art of healthy balance through focussing on the small, simple aspects of life which so many people seem to undervalue at the expense of their health, happiness and ability to be contented with the present. We are so obsessed with fast-paced consumerism and cheap pleasures- food, cigarettes, alcohol- and so stressed by the narcissistic goals we set for ourselves that we often forget how to manage our lives. My Dad suffered from depression all the way through my childhood, and as he weaned himself off his antidepressants he had to learn how to balance his daily life again so that he could remain positive. It was small things- food, exercise, hobbies, yoga, giving up alcohol, prioritizing friendships- things which his psychologist recommended- that finally allowed him to recover. I read this blog because Taralynn’s anxiety attacks and the insecurities she has been through remind me of my Dad and have a sincerity to them. She is helping each and every reader she influences to learn BALANCE. Sometimes it is the small and insignificant things which have the greatest impact on people’s lives. Keep doing what you’re doing Taralynn, and thankyou 🙂

To Alyssa Taralynn actually put her self out there, how is she a joke?
It really makes me sad that people have to act that way to someone who is just sharing things about their life. People need to stop attacking others for no good reason. Taralynn keep being who you are, and please keep sharing your beautiful self and life.

I remember a few posts back you said you’re trying to find a healthier sweet-tooth curber. I have a recipe for 63 calorie peanut butter brownies that are super good! http://thegreenpalatelife.com/post/62872847750/skinny-63-calorie-brownies
Also, if you want to bake a little something for Mr. Grumples then I also have a recipe for homemade dog treats 😉 http://thegreenpalatelife.com/post/69896501900/homemade-puppy-treats-because-dogs-deserve

Hi Tara,
I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog. I’ve been reading for a couple years now but I’ve never commented before. Every time I come on and read the comments people leave it is irritating AF!!! It is sad that people even think they have the right to leave nasty comments. If they really dislike you and your blog, and the way you live your life, they should really not read your blog because they bring negativity to not only you but anyone who reads your blog.
I just wanted to let you know that you’re great, you’re blog is great and I look forward to reading your posts each day.
Keep doing you!

I always start my day with a 30 minute workout followed by water and lemon. Great way to detox and start the day the right way.
Taralynn, I know you asked for baking/cooking ideas, but since it is already late (9 pm where I live), here is a quick, delicious snack that I make often for my kids, my husband, and I.
The best banana wrap ever 🙂 can be made in less than 10 minutes and it is very nutritious:

Hi Taralynn, you mention that you try not to eat as much fruit as you used to and I was wondering why that is? I have been reading a lot about the raw-till-four lifestyle and similar approaches, where fruits are the main component of your diet, so now that I read your post I guess I am just curious to hear your opinion on it 🙂 Oh and my favorite healthy baking recipe are these muffins:
2 ripe banans, mashed
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 cup nut butter
1/3 cup cacao powder
Mix everything in a food processor and bake in the oven for about 15 minutes 🙂 Super quick and yummy
there is a picture on my instagram: @hijoiful)
Hope you have a great day! Joi x

That looks amazing!
Fruit…there is nothing wrong with it, it’s so healthy and nutritious for you. I just want to cut back on how much of it I was eating. I was eating like 2 bananas, 2 apples, 2 oranges, bag of grapes, and a pint of strawberries a day and sometimes more. I just want to keep my sugar grams under 50g a day and I was hitting like 100g with all that fruit. I know it’s healthy sugar, but still would like to keep it lower. I’ve replaced the fruit with avocados (which I’m sure it’s a fruit) cucumber, and carrots!
Joi @ Joiful says
Thanks for your detailed answer, Tara! I really appreciate that you have created such an amazing forum of communication and that you always answer the questions of your readers! That definitely makes sense what you are saying – I am working on incorporating more veggies into my diet too, but fruit is just so much tastier 😀 thanks again, Joi x

I was wondering if you could write a post or more posts about running or working out? I cannot seem to get into running and I see you can do 4 miles! That’s amazing! Email me and maybe we can talk.
