I made it to Sunday! Today, I won’t have one of those long “Sunday update posts” because I’ve been keeping up with my blogging everyday. It puts me at ease when I’m stressed. I didn’t get much sleep again last night. Grumples has been doing great in the eating, vomiting and bathroom department so far (knocks on wood) but where he was shaved, he can’t stop biting and licking at it. He was up every five minutes going nuts. I literally had to try different things to get him to stop.
1. I kept applying a warm towel with water over the area. (worked for fifteen minutes)
2. I tied a wrap over the bare spot. (lasted five minutes)
3. I wrapped him up in a blanket and placed him on the couch and I rubbed his belly until he fell asleep and forgot it was down there. (lasted about an hour)
4. I took him outside to walk around for about an hour because he forgets any issues when he’s on the leash. (well I couldn’t walk forever)
5. I put him in my bed and did the whole rub your ears for another hour.
He finally passed out at 4 in the morning. But…I had to get up at eight this morning to get ready for church. Why am I blogging then? Well, I’m waiting for my hair to dry. I’m kind of nervous about leaving him for a couple of hours, but I think he’ll be ok. He’s still scratching and licking this morning, so this may be an eventful day. If you have any tips, please let me know!
Yesterday, when I went to pick up some rice and chicken for him, I picked myself up a sandwich and soup from Publix. I knew I wouldn’t have time to cook dinner. Soup and sandwiches are so comforting! The soup was garden vegetable and the sandwich was turkey and swiss. I’m supposed to go to a football playoff party tonight, but I want to see how Grumples is doing by the time I get back from church to make that decision.
I do want to say THANK YOU for all of your prayers for Grumples the past couple of days! They certainly helped.
I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

my dog had a big scab on his arm he couldn’t stop licking & we tried everything under the sun to try to get him to stop. Finally we put some vaseline on (while we were home to keep an eye on him & make sure he wasn’t licking it) & he stopped. Our guess was it was just very dry & itchy & the baseline moisurized it! So glad he is doing better… I know how it is to have a sick furbaby! I think momma needs a glass of wine tonight 🙂

Definitely will keep Grumples in my prayers! And I completely agree with soup and sandwiches being the ultimate comfort foods.

My dog got her bum shaved/nicked on accident and she would not stop licking it. Like 24/7. Brought her to the vet and they said she had to wear a cone for 2 weeks until it healed b/c it wouldn’t heal with her licking it. Maybe G’s bum got nicked? Is there a cut anywhere? Good luck!

Sandwhich and soup make a great combo for lunch or dinner. 🙂 I can’t believe you were up at 4am to see him pass out. hoe do you feel today? Tired from lack of sleep, maybe?

Have you tried getting him a cone? It could prevent him from licking! I’m glad he is doing better!
Taralynn McNitt says

My answer for everything is coconut oil! It’s pretty much magic 🙂

I forgot to say, I’m thrilled Mr Grumples is doing better! Having a sick baby is the worst.

I’m going through the same thing with my wolfie-mix, Molly, because of her wound. I can’t keep her from messing with it and it gets irritated and bloody 🙁
The thing that has worked best is wrapping an ace bandage around the wound and anywhere nearby (after putting neosporin on it. If its wrapped right, its hard for her to get off, especially if it covers more than just the wound. That means wrapping it around most of her torso, but hey, it keeps her from getting to it for a while.

When my dog is biting at his skin I put coconut oil on it, I told my vet I do that and she said it’s something she recommends to people herself – coconut oil is also a natural anti fungal as well.

good to know!!

Feel better Mr. Grumples! Us pet owners have such a hard time when our fur babies get sick because they can’t tell us how they are feeling and what’s wrong, it’s hard 🙁 It looks like you are going above and beyond, he’ll be back to himself in no time! Happy Sunday 🙂

buy one of those cone things from the pet store or vet. It is worth it in the end. Helps them heal and not lick and pick at it. Hope you get some sleep tonight

You are going to make a great mom! I have had sick pets and you end up sleep deprived pretty quickly (and full of stress-acne!). But it feels so good to be the one who makes them all better.
Wishing your dog a speedy recovery, Helena

I love that there are other people who treat their pets like children. My family Golden Retriever always had a lot of issues with hot spots on his skin and reactions to medicines. I would get soo nervous every time even though I knew he would get better. We lost him this past May at 16 years old and seeing your pictures of Grumples makes me miss him but happy to know that he is a happy pup. Makes me want another one right now! He will get better and be back to his normal self in no time! 🙂
