My life revolves around change. Things are always changing, people come and go, and traditions sometimes die. That’s the beauty of life and adapting to new things. This Christmas was definitely a new experience, a good one though! I’m in a new state, my brother is gone, and I have an amazing new boyfriend with a great family in my life. Next year, it’ll be different again. My brother will be home, my parents will have moved into their new home, and who knows where and what I’ll be doing. But wherever life takes me, I’ll make the best of it, and enjoy all the moments God throws at me.
For the past 23 years, I have had homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast. This year, they came out of a can, but I did enjoy seeing all of your photos of the cinnamon rolls you made from my recipe. I spent Christmas eve baking, and didn’t feel like adding cinnamon rolls to the mix. I figured I’d wait until next year.
I’m always the first one awake on Christmas morning. I used to wake my brother up and we’d run downstairs to see what Santa had brought us. We’d eat cinnamon rolls while ripping apart our stockings and scratching lottery tickets. This year, I woke up and ran to the coffee pot. After dinner and Christmas mass, I was tired! My parents and I agreed to not buy anything for each other and instead donate one hundred dollars a piece to a charity of our choice. Next year, we will make Christmas bigger and better when everyone is together.
After spending a several hours with my parents Christmas morning, I headed over to Nick’s family’s house. He stayed over there with his family Christmas Eve.
Ralph made me breakfast. No matter how full you are, you can’t say no to Ralph. It’s not that he’ll be upset, but it’s because his food is so good. The eggs were cooked to garlic perfection again, and he served it with a thick sourdough English muffin; the best muffin I’ve ever had.
After breakfast, we opened up each other’s presents, watched some Christmas movies, and then headed out for a couple hours of basketball. I forgot how fun shooting around was.
I love Christmas mornings. I’ll post the rest of my Christmas and dinner soon!
What are your Christmas Morning traditions? Favorite part of Christmas?

My Christmas was really different too. Like you I tried to welcome the new tradition though. Now I get up and my parents and I spend the morning together and then we head on over to my grandma’s house for the rest of the day. As long as I get to spend the day with family I’m happy. 😉

Aw, you have really kind heart for donating something like that, Tara. I can’t imagine myself playing basketball with my family–we’re distant like that. Sounds like such a toasty Christmas morn. 🙂

This Christmas was very different for me too!
It was my first married Christmas, which was wonderful, but very different. I don’t feel 24, I feel like a little kid, so to be married and “adult” feels weird. haha.
I love that you guys gave money to a charity. That’s awesome. I’ve always thought it would be awesome to serve food to the homeless on Christmas day, but I haven’t done it. I should.
And you are right, whatever God throws at you will be a grand adventure…all his ways are perfect 🙂
Merry Christmas, Taralynn!

I can relate this year… I usually wake up early and my mom makes cinnamon rolls, orange rolls, sausage rolls, croissants, etc. (a lot of rolls) and my sister, her husband, and my brother come over to open gifts in the morning. This year, there was no breakfast and no “Christmas morning.” This year, we waited until 4:30 pm to open gifts as we all waited for my brother and his fiancé to return from her family’s Christmas. Although completely different and far from tradition, it was a wonderful Christmas evening and dinner. I think as long as the family is together, Christmas will always be wonderful.
